Purbani Tandoori Restaurant in Southampton

Sobre todo buena comida, pero decepcionado por el plato principal de pollo tikka muy pequeño, que era mucho más de lo que cabría esperar como un entrante modesto. Bhajis excelente como siempre, pero solo relación calidad-precio media.

Emran y sus fabulosos chefs hicieron una velada especial aún mejor con un excelente y sabroso curry y acompañamientos. Nada era demasiado para ellos. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente. Hicieron un buffet para 72 y cada plato era tan bueno como el anterior.

Esta fue nuestra primera visita a Purbani y nos quedamos muy impresionados con la elección y la calidad de nuestra comida. El uso de varias especias y frutas utilizadas en los currys y salsas creó un sabor encantador, el personal era muy atento y los precios eran muy razonables. La única desventaja fue mi incapacidad para persuadir al dueño de abrir una sucursal más cerca de donde vivimos en Derbyshire. ¡Solo significa que tendremos que seguir buscando razones para visitar la zona!

Vine aquí con algunos amigos / colegas para una comida. He estado antes un par de veces. Sí, es un poco apretado, pero teníamos una mesa para ocho y estaba bien. La comida me pareció muy buena; poppadums con salsas, pollo tikka entrante, karhai murug para principal y sí tienen postres así que helado de fresa que es genial ya que algunos restaurantes indios ya no ofrecen postres. También tuve un buen Merlot y te dan un Baileys gratis al final, además de toallas calientes y chocs que es un buen toque. Cenaron un miércoles por la noche y ocupado, pero no empacado. Servicio rápido y solo £ 35 la cabeza en promedio, así que un buen precio. Sin duda volvería ya que es uno de mis favoritos en la zona.

We went to the purbani for a works reunion, the first thing we noticed were how close the chairs were to the tables, i struggled to get my legs under the table and getting along the bench seats was difficult for some of the guys, so after some furniture rearrangement we got sat down, although i did feel cramped in. The staff were all very pleasant, they took our orders promptly and brought out the drinks were quickly which was good for a busy friday night, i did find the drink menu somewhat poor, just lagers and a cider, no ales at all, pretty poor as not everyone drinks lager. The food came out pretty quickly, presentation was good, everyone got the correct orders, i had a chicken vindaloo which was pretty spicy, but needed a few more flavours to lift it. All in all we had a good meal, with two rounds of drinks the bill came to just under £30 per head so it was pretty good value.

A large party of 23 was excellently catered for by Imran and his team. Great atmosphere, delicious food and good service.

Booked a table on Saturday night,busy but not noisy.service was perfect,pleasant and fast.food was lovely as always.They went above and beyond, when we couldn't get a taxi, one of their team drove us back to our hotel and refused to accept payment. takeaway on Saturday evening, undercooked Bombay potato and chicken so overcooked it was inedible all delivered in carrier bag seeping with oil. Not an experience I shall repeat.

Great little restaurant, serving fabulous food, the service was top notch. The restaurant was very busy, all the customers looked very happy with their food, lots of empty plates. Very reasonable prices. Recommended

Was a walk in of 3 of us on a Thursday night, the waiter was polite and friendly, gave us recommendations and the food was lovely, it’s my 5th time eating at Purbani and as someone who comes from an Indian family and is used to making and eating curries, bhajis and samosas the food at purbani is always a nice treat when I fancy eating something that’s a little different. The naan breads and chicken tikka dhansak is a firm favourite of mine!!

Very disappointed with the way we were treated by one member of staff in particular. We booked a table for 5 and unfortunately one of our friends was running late so we asked to have some poppadoms to nibble on whilst we were waiting for her. We were told by the rude waiter that he would only bring poppadoms when our friend arrived as he didn't believe she was coming. He wanted to move us to a table of 4 but we explained our friend was coming but was simply delayed. We asked again for poppadoms to be brought out whilst we waited and he said "no, not until the 5th person arrives" Quite honestly we were all flabbergasted at his attitude and we wondered if he was joking - he was not! The meal in itself was OK but unspectacular, the waiters are very pushy on the up-sell and after the way we had been treated on arrival we were not inclined to order anything extra off the menu. The service was slow ( we sat waiting over dirty plates for at least 15 mins). It is a shame as this is the only Indian in Botley but it is safe to say we will never be returning there again.

We used to live in Botley a few years ago and visited the Purbani quite a lot and always had a good meal. What’s happened?? We returned on Saturday and it was dreadful from start to finish. The service was slow and when we were finally served he was rude. I’ve never had a poor pint of Kingfisher anywhere; well I have now!! The food was largely tasteless and my butter chicken was green!!! The menu is boring and dated and we will never return

Shocking experience. Poppadoms were tiny and looked shop bought. Condiments were awful. The 4 curries that we ordered (all different) were mushy, and very light on flavour. These ranged from Korma to Madras ,I hasten to add and were clearly reheated as two of them were very cold in the middle. Two of us let our feelings known to a degree. Perhaps we should have articulated these further but didn't want to ruin a birthday gathering. However, our remarks fell on deaf ears as many of the other disgruntled customers will ateste. We will not be returning. Lastly - at £6 a pint you don't expect a flat Kingfisher...

I dined here on a Sunday evening, the food was absolutely amazing, good atmosphere and extremely friendly and attentive staff. Unfortunately the evening went south when another customer ruined it for us and probably the whole restaurant. For whatever reason he was shouting and swearing at the staff (which was totally u called for) throwing his weight around while having no regard for other customers. It was like he was on drugs or something because that was not normal behaviour. The staff tolerated his shocking behaviour which definitely wasn’t deserved. But hats off to them, they dealt with him in the best way they could The food in this restaurant was the best around.

If only I could I could give it no stars I would. I can only describe their food as SLOP doused in chilli powder. Good God you complain. I was set upon by at least 6 members of their staff. They became threatening and intimidating. I feel for the people of Botley having to suffer such disgusting food dressed up as Indian cuisine.

Beautiful Indian food. Booked a week in advance for 5 and added one more on before we went. Very friendly and would definitely use again when or if in the area again.

Hadn't been for quite a while but was very pleased to find the same great food and service (and mint sauce recipe) intact. We all had a great meal, kids loved their poppadoms, bhajis and tikka massala. Look forward to getting back to the Purbani again soon.

Have been here a few times with friends- always worth booking as they can be busy. 3 of us with different curries, rices and breads and all good quality. I wasn’t drinking so ordered a coke and the waiter even took the time to let me know the price as large wasn’t on the menu. Good service all night and a reasonable cost. Will be back

Ended up at The Purbani following a disappointing visit to another local hostelry. On arrival we had to wait for a short time for a table but we were then sat in a comfortable booth. After ordering drinks we notice that the premises were quite drab and that a lot of the wall decor and lighting had been removed. We had visited the Purbani on quite a few occasions previously but the atmosphere had changed somewhat. We ordered two chicken passandas and a chicken biriani with a tandoori mixed grill and naan bread. How can it be described, a bit like the decor Drab. The passandas had so much sugar in them that it was like a chicken candy floss. The mixed grill was acceptable and the biriani was only passable. The naan was soft and doughy it needed a bit more cooking time. Shame as this Indian was always very good but standards have definitely dropped. Will try it again at some time in the future and can only hope that is is better then.

Rude, Arrogant Staff. Put on at least 10% gratuity for poor service. Food Average. The drinks and Price range advertised are false as Curry without rice or chips is around £17 so around £25 for a meal. The toilets are upstairs so inaccessible for the disabled. Wouldn't go again

The Purbani is really good value for money. The choices are wide ranging, there is a curry for anyone from flavourful mild to chilli heat hot. The sides are all lovely . The service is quick . We regularly visit and are never disappointed.

A very popular restaurant on a Saturday evening so be sure to book. Lovely reasonably priced food and a good atmosphere made for an enjoyable evening although do expect a slow service as they get very busy. Will return again.

This was the first visit to Purbani for myself and 4 friends. The food was very good indeed with an extensive menu choice. May sound daft but we all agreed the poppadoms tasted particularly good. They had a crunchy texture that I'd never experienced before....

On a visit to Botley a chum of mine told me about this hidden gem.. It doesn't look like much from outside, but inside is beautiful. Very clean, lovely linen table covers and starched napkins.. Staff extremely helpful....... But most of all The food excellent,...

5 of us ate here. Not one of us had an enjoyable meal. Both starter and main meal portions were average, def not what we’ve seen previously. Sauce/gravy bland. Time to take our custom elsewhere.

This is a great example of what you can get away with when you have no direct competition. Mediocre Indian food, surly and poor service, high prices and shabby decor. Really disappointed and really should have learnt from my last visit

Salí a tomar un trago temprano en la puerta el viernes pasado y me sentí como si fuera a comer un curry: tuve la oportunidad de hacerlo ya que estaba ocupado y me pidió que esperara. Conseguimos una mesa para 4 sólo dos de nosotros y tuvimos una gran comida.

En serio no puedo criticar este restaurante. He visitado los últimos 10 años, los lunes cuando estoy tranquilo, hasta los sábados cuando estoy excepcionalmente ocupado, y nunca he tenido una mala comida. Emran y el resto del personal son corteses y se ocuparán de todas sus necesidades. ¡No puedo esperar hasta mi próxima visita!

Nos encanta amar, me encanta la comida, pero más que eso, el personal es como de la familia. Cuando estaba enferma anteriormente y quería curry más que cualquier otra cosa, me ayudaron a conseguir uno, y ahora vivo en Francia, hago pop cuando estoy en casa y recibo visitas para sacar su comida. This is my goto Indian restaurant and my family and friends share that view too. Situated just outside of Southampton in the small village of Botley, and just a short drive away from the the Aegeas Bowl. The Purbani offers great Indian food which has even been tasted by some of England's Cricketers.

The food was amazing, the service was excellent, the restaurant has so many choices of dishes. Staff are extremely helpful and professional. been to so many other Indian restaurant in Southampton, but nothing compares to botley purbani, thank you

We booked a table for 6 on a Saturday night, we waited 10 mins before anyone came to ask about drinks, which was fine.However, once our orders were taken by a waiter that clearly didnt have any customer skills other than wanting you out as quickly as possible and being rude.

Having recently moved to Botley my partner and I were looking forward to a meal at Purbani. We made a reservation with a weeks notice as being a Saturday evening understandably it could be busy.

Had a table booked for 8.30pm, we arrived after a drink in the pub next door. It was a good table in a booth type seating. Great starters I had butty kebab even though this was a main meal they were more than happy to make it a starter. My main meal was chicken korma which was excellent with pilau rice. Then a floater coffee to round it off, this was very sweet but lovely. Will be back.

After a busy day , we just needed feeding. The Purbani was our choice , wecolomed by friendly staff and a good menu. Order just main course, all served perfectly.

I ate here with a few friends the week before Christmas. I'd recommend booking as it seems to get busy, regardless of the day of the week. There was 3 of us and we all has starters, curry, rice and naan, plus a bottle of wine. and the total bill was less than £30pp.

Staff mostly seem fine.. courteous. The disappointment was the food, the biryani dish I had was cold and pretty tasteless. It didn’t look very appealing either.. a shame. I can’t vouch for other meals.

Managed to reserve a table for three at very short notice on probably one of the busiest Saturday nights of the year. When we arrived and it was rammed full with people, we were shown the one empty table...Our expectations weren’t massively high!

Having read the previous reviews I was a bit unsure of eating here for our Christmas meal. However I was extremely surprised it was the total opposite. Don’t know what other customers are faffing about, we were looked after with complimentary drinks on arrival, complimentary Christmas crackers, efficient and friendly service from start to finish. Food quality was amazing, you can tell it’s fresh as it tasted it and took time to come out but it was a large party. We were a large group but that didn’t stop the food coming to the table piping hot and service being prompt for drinks or clearing the table.

Came here for a Christmas meal with close friends. Food was nice, but nothing special. Service was appalling, we were put in a situation that made us feel very uncomfortable during the meal with absolutely no apology and no recognition in way of free drinks etc, in fact when we questioned this we were confronted with rude arrogant staff and locals who tried to get involved! Will never be returning and will be telling all we know to stay away too!!! How foolish of them for the sake of some free drinks!

Visité aquí anoche con un par de viejos amigos de la escuela. Ojalá no hubiéramos sido ya que, francamente, fue la peor comida india que hemos comido. Todos estuvimos de acuerdo en que la comida era insípida, el servicio fue horrible por parte de uno de los camareros más groseros que hemos tenido la desgracia de encontrar. Este solía ser un buen restaurante, pero en serio se ha ido cuesta abajo, sugeriría que necesitan un nuevo chef y los camareros necesitan aprender algunas habilidades de servicio al cliente. Nunca volveremos a perder nuestro dinero en este establecimiento de nuevo. Solo le damos una estrella, ya que no nos permitirá obtener una puntuación negativa.

Tuvimos un largo día familiar en el parque de Paultons y pensamos que terminemos con un curry. Tengo que decir que era buena comida y un gran servicio. Impecable. Gracias a la gente de allí por complacernos. ¡Muy apreciado! Con 2 niños en el remolque (6, 2) fue un buen servicio para que sea rápido y eficiente y muy buena comida.

Comimos aquí el sábado por la noche, no reservamos y nos presentamos a las 8 pm, el restaurante estaba lleno. Nos dijeron que podían tener la mesa lista para nosotros en aproximadamente 20 minutos. Así que fuimos al bar a tomar algo y volvimos 20 minutos más tarde, la mesa estaba lista. El servicio fue atento, los precios son razonables con un buen ambiente. Los camareros se aseguraron de que tuviéramos todo lo que necesitábamos, fueron muy amables y acogedores. La comida era muy sabrosa y llegó rápidamente. Yo recomendaría 100% este restaurante y volveré.

We have eaten here before and it wasn’t as bad as this so I can only assume the chef is different. We had a vegetable dish and a chicken dish. Both were recommended on the menu. They tasted the same. Bland. No spices or heat. No background flavours. Worst curry in a long time

We have been regulars to this restaurant for years (donkey ones), to which we have noticed a massive decline in food quality/standards over the last year. I had never left reviews during the food days, probably because I didn’t see the need in pointing out the obvious due to reputation and my lack of awareness of trip advisor! I would say nothing has changed regarding location/setting/decor...however the food has gone from high quality to real poor quality. The meat quality is really poor, and the sauce base has changed massively. I really do not understand what has gone wrong! It was that bad, that we tried the hedge end purbani which always had the reputation of being second fiddle to the one in botley...however this trumps botley now. We haven’t been back since our last 5 poor experiences and now we venture to coriander lounge which is further afield but we get the quality we want. It is a real shame as this used to be our regular, at least 2 collections a month.

Booked a table for two, to chat through golf holiday over a beer and curry. As soon as we’d sat down, menus thrown on the table and we were asked within seconds what we’d like? Throughout the first 15 mins we were approached by 3 different waiters all asking the same - it immediately felt like we were to eat and go - QUICKLY!! I had to explain that we would not be rushed. We ordered. I had Chilli Garlic Chicken - no flavour or heat! The plates arrived dirty and had to be replaced. We were continually pestered throughout our meal yet other tables around us were not. We purposely stayed at our table after our meal to enjoy a couple of beers and coffee. Repeatedly telling the manager who for some reason kept hovering around. I will not re-visit there are plenty of other quality indian restaurants in the area.

Went last night with the family, last minute change of plans and they got us in on a Saturday night. Traditional food, well cooked and the flavours just right. Can’t fault them, happy staff, very attentive. Another perfect evening here.

The Purbani at Botley has always been of a old standard however n this occasion it was a huge disappointment. Perfunctory service, asking what we'd like to drink before we had barely sat down and over cooked chicken with little flavour. A real shame as it always used to be very good however I understand that they have a new chef who I'll take time to settle in.

A group of us had a boys evening out visiting the dolphin for drinks then Purbani for our food. Service was good and on the whole the food was ok.. not amazing but not bad.

We booked a table for 12 to celebrate my daughter’s 17th Birthday! All I can say is, it was absolutely fantastic!! The food was gorgeous, arriving all at the same time, piping hot! To have no complaints out of 12 people from my family was a miracle!! Would highly recommend this restaurant! Think we will be going again next week!! Thank you to all the staff, we had the most enjoyable evening x

My husband and I frequent quality restaurants and have never been made to feel the way we have at Purbani Botley. My husband received poor/rude service here when he went for a meal with some friends and felt he was treated differently to the white customers. We decided to give them another go and ordered a takeaway for collection, the manager was very dismissive of us (just looked us up and down and said “yes?”) when we walked in after we had just seen him hugging and being very friendly with his white customers.

What a find. Fantastic food. Friendly service. Really happy. Would definitely come back. Chicken tikka starter was the best I’ve had. Set meal well worth the money.

This is a very average Indian restaurant; in terms of the menu, it's long and with the usual - decide the meat to go into the sauce - so absolutely nothing special. Not alone in doing this, but the upsell for starters - and cost of chutney is ridiculous. These should just be on the house.

First visit here and we could easily see why the restaurant was packed to the brim and they were unable to seat the continuos stream of customers that came into the restaurant hoping to get a table as well as being witness to the huge amount of people coming for a takeaway. Be whisked away to a little bit of India where the food is exquisite and the atmosphere is lively, warm and welcoming. We couldn't fault our meal and will definitely be spicing up our tastebuds and returning soon!

Very nice restaurant with a great choice of Indian dishes and good specialty dishes.

Grabbed a late-night takeaway from the restaurant en route to the hotel. The ambience and décor are good but the service was a little slow considering that there were no people left to eat. There was a bit of a flap in the kitchen before my order came out and I suspect the order had been cooked incorrectly, found myself on the outside of a vindaloo style curry rather than a savoury dhansak. Chicken was that 'cubed' processed meat I hate in Indian restaurants and price, with no extras (usually get the odd poppadum) wasn't cheap. I don't live round here so can't compare but not one I would rush back to.

The Purbani is our go-to asian restaurant partly so that we can walk home, but mostly for the fabulous food, all dished up with great service. Thoroughly recommended.

We originally visited this restaurant last November and had a lovely evening. So we returned last night and how disappointing. It was an hour before our starters arrived, no apology, a further 45 minutes for our main meal. The food was bland. The restaurant wasn’t full, but the staff were not attentive in any shape or form. Sadly won’t be visiting again in the near future.

Not once had a bad meal in here! Great staff I have eaten in many times and get takeaways, always great service! Will not have a curry anywhere else!

Very busy little restaurant but the service was excellent and the food delicious. We will definitely be going back very soon
