Pull Up in Manchester

Good start, disappointing end. The jerk chicken and chops 'box' combo with rice, plantain and dumpling was tasty, as was the cherry sour. But I couldn't have the Guiness Punch as there was "no Guiness". What?! I never see Guiness Punch at UK Caribbean restaurants so have never had it. I thought, finally here's a place I can try it! Oh dear... So I asked for the bill then waited for 20 minutes while the staff proceeded to not bring it, but put xmas decorations up in the otherwise empty restaurant instead. Given the very positive reviews I assume this wasn't their finest moment. I might be tempted back if I knew they could actually make a Guiness Punch and I wouldn't become invisible when it came to paying.

We went here for a 21st Birthday meal . Really great food, nice drinks and lovely people. Highly recommended, you should check it out...

Best Caribbean food in Manchester

Si estás ansioso por sabores caribeños auténticos, hazte un favor y sigue caminando. Este lugar podría estar bien si solo estás tomando bebidas y poniéndote al día con tus amigos, pero la comida es una verdadera decepción. El “pollo idiota” era más como pollo triste, apenas cocido con salsa barbacoa salpicada en la parte superior. Definitivamente no es el verdadero negocio. El arroz y los guisantes estaban sosos y mal preparados, carentes del alma que cabría esperar de la cocina caribeña. Mirando hacia atrás, debería haber tomado la pista cuando me di cuenta de la ausencia de cocineros caribeños reales en la cocina. Cuando el plato llegó apenas caliente y sospechosamente rápido, era la pista número dos. Una de las comidas más decepcionantes que he tenido en años.

What a find! We spotted the busy restaurant from across the road and were drawn in. We were welcomed quite literally with open arms and a giant hug from the lady in charge. Between us we ate the goat, beef and hake dishes with a selection of sides and all were outstanding. Washed down with delicious cocktails and a refreshing beer. Highly recommended.

Visité con mi novio y salió muy decepcionado. La comida estaba por debajo de la media y el servicio era horrible. Camarera era grosera y no tenía habilidades de servicio al cliente, casi no hablaba y cuando le preguntamos qué nos recomendaba era corta y franca. Definitivamente no regresaré y te pido que no malgastes tu dinero aquí.

He estado aquí un par de veces a lo largo de los años, pero no he estado en más de un año y es genial ver que es tan bueno como siempre. Gran comida auténtica, incluyendo opciones vegetarianas y veganas. Personal amable y agradable ambiente relajado. No creo que pase mucho tiempo antes de que vuelva otra vez.

The jerk chicken was probably the worst I’ve had and the most I’ve ever paid. £10 for one drumstick and a small dry thigh was shocking. No rice included. It tasted like a bottle Daddy’s brown sauce had been poured all over it. After waiting 40 minuties for food, it was very sad indeed. Sorry.

The atmosphere of the and decorating of the restaurant was fun and drinks were nice Unfortunately service pricing and the food let the experience down. Maybe it was the end of dinner service, but this was shame. Though the Hake and escovitch fish was fresh it lacked any seasoning that resembles a jamaican/Caribbean Hake and escovitch fish dish and it was over fried tasting more like fried chicken . There was no vinegar/general seasoning in the onions and peppers which makes the dish unique and fried dumplings were too oily. The meals of those with me also lacked the fragrant punchy flavour found in Caribbean cuisine which I hoped to share with them, so this was disappointing. As a result I feel it was more than I would be willing to pay.

I have been to Pull Up a few times, for both their food and spoken word events. The food is delicious, traditional West Indian fare with all the classics. What really elevates this place to one of my favourites tho, is the spoken word event, the best in Manchester (in a crowded field), which is excellently ruled with an iron rod by manager Sharon, who has been friendly and welcoming every time I've been by

Absolutely delicious lamb chops for my Friday Eve meal (ok Thursday but I call it Friday Eve). Lovely homemade cherry rum mixed with Ting. The service here is always friendly & fabulous.

Definitely go there again. Food was off the chain, staff welcoming and polite. I had an amazing nite. See u again soon.

Cosy place with clean settings and vibrant music. The music is quite loud, so if you prefer to have a chat over dinner, this place isn’t for you. The food was a big disappointment for us as the prices & reviews didn’t match the flavour and quality. Very basic cooking and flavour. Frozen or canned vegetables used. Coriander was nowhere to be seen yet mentioned on the menu.

Me and my girlfriend absolutely love it here, it’s been our second time. We always go for the hench box with jerk chicken and curry goat, with a side of chips and peppered steak gravy, and the food is so delicious! We will be back again soon :) the staff are very welcoming and friendly.

I had such an amazing time in Manchester! Despite all the flight delays, I still managed to enjoy a few hours there. Since I missed out on trying jerk chicken and other UK dishes since I moved to France, my cousin recommended that I visit Pull Up. Even though I arrived pretty late, the staff, especially Auntie Sharon, was so welcoming and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious, and believe it or not, their caipirinha was even better than the ones back in Brazil! I'm looking forward to the next visit!

The waitress was excellent, the bathroom was clean and atmosphere was nice. Sad to say I was VERY disappointed with the food. (I'm caribbean and I found the food lacking in flavour.

Sweetness all round, we went with the hench boxes, goat Ackie and jerk. The surprising thing about the jerk was that it was more bbq flavour than expected. In any other day we would have different Guiness punch but today was spot on for my lady. Great music sweet people, can’t go wrong. Make sure you go soon so you can make it a regular jaunt 🤌🏼🤤👌🏼

Primera vez en Pull Up West Indies el sábado 8 de junio - muy buena comida jamaiquina - gran variedad en el menú para satisfacer a los consumidores de carne y vegetarianos - a un precio razonable teniendo en cuenta sus gastos generales de ubicación. El personal de servicio amable y atento, aunque un poco escaso (dado que son publicidad para el personal, así que no tuvimos en cuenta un servicio rápido) - no se sintió apresurado a salir del restaurante cuando terminamos. Desde el menú de comida os recomiendo el pescado salado, las alitas de pollo y tenéis que probar las albóndigas que son divinas (como solía hacer mi papá). Del menú de bebidas tengo que decir que los mojitos son los mejores que he tenido en el Reino Unido y una gran relación calidad-precio para una jarra - un montón para 2 personas durante la cena!

I normally get the food delivered from here and it’s serious food but this time I went in as didn’t realise all this time it’s up the road from me!! Had to say the waitress Marriam was a-mazing big up yuhself Marriam 💪🏾💪🏾 the food was amazing I had the Reggae Roast and I was so stuffed I took the rest home. I’m going to be back here now on a regs now I know it’s local! Food is fresh and tasty 💚💛🖤

A welcoming and wholesome environment! I attended a Pull Up and Speak event where people came and performed spoken word poetry that they had written and it was goosebump inducing. Whether you were a regular or new, there was so much love to go around and that was brilliant to see!

A nice place to enjoy Caribbean cuisine in the heart of Manchester City Center. Great ambient and of course nice music on the background as you munch your meals.

If you're in Manchester it's a must to visit here - food is top notch and service is great too!

I have been to many restaurants but this place just had a lovely vibe, kind of a homely feeling, it's hard to describe, I felt comfortable and the food was exquisite the staff were more than welcoming, just a lovely experience all round, great place to eat,

One of the best places in Manchester, bar none. The food is excellent (wings are second to none) and their events are a good time guaranteed. Staff are absolutely brilliant - service is excellent all round. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Went there last week and the food was amazing. Compliments to the chef honestly. It wasn't only the food that had blown me away but also the staff they kept checking to make sure everything was okay and the service was extremely fast. I was impressed by the music they had playing it set the mood whilst me and my friends were enjoying our delicious meal. Will be back for sure 🩷. I highly recommend this place.

Should have paid attention to the lack of custom on a Saturday to realise this place isn't as good as the reviews state. The place was basically empty yet it took staff a long time to approach our table and serve us. Ordered moretti and what we received was NOT that, tasted like house lager just in a moretti glass, very frustrating and dissapointing when paying premium prices. Already not off to a great start, the food was mediocre at best. Ordered the jerk chicken with extra gravy and rice. The extra gravy tasted just like your make at home granuals with chicken bits in it. The chicken was extremely dry but the jerk sauce made it edible. Wouldn't eat here again and certainly wouldn't reccomend.

Catching up with my bro before a gig around the corner …we couldn’t decide what we wanted so just shared two mains and a bunch of sides …the jerk chicken was spot on and the curry goat was amazing ! The house special rum was pretty special too, but beware of the scotch bonnet …lovely flavour but super strength - I had to ask for a glass of milk …ha ha ! Superb value for money too …definitely be going again and recommend to friends !

Came here last night. Service was really slow to begin with, one of the girls serving was quite rude/unfriendly. Ordered the hench box, peppered steak was extremely chewy, jerk chicken is just some chicken on the bone with some sauce poured over it. The food is good but it’s definitely not authentic Caribbean. Staff drinking at the bar not taking any notice of customers.

This was honestly the worst food I have had from a Caribbean restaurant ever. I am not one to leave a bad review. If the food is just ok I will happily not say anything. I ordered via deliveroo and NOTHING was anywhere close to authentic or even based on good ingredients. The most disappointing food I have had in 20 years. I had to throw what was left away.

Service was poor, two female servers looked unapproachable as they didn't smile or make eye contact, one was walking around eating and the other took too long to take our order. Food order came out wrong despite being charged for the correct order and food portions weren't particularly matched to price. But food was good.

The jerk chicken had never seen marinade. Just a basic small piece of roast chicken with flabby skin and some basic jerk sauce poured over the top. It’s a shame because the family that run the truck in levenshume are the same family that run pull up. The truck is fantastic but the food in Pull up is so far away from authentic Jamaican food. Never again ….

First time last week. Food was decent, albeit smaller portion size than I imagined. Atmosphere was ok given we went in an awkward time at 4pm but it was the service that really let it down for me. Our server was cold and she was the only one working. I was with my friends, we all realised pretty quickly she was very cold, barely smiled, it’s like she didn’t want to be here. When she did smile, it was obviously fake where she smiled and then stopped immediately. Just no warmth or joy. Felt fake. No one asked how our food was. I usually tip but didn’t. Would not return based on the poor and awkward service.

My partner and I popped in here on a Friday night for a spontaneous cocktail. They were so good we decided to eat here too and are so glad that we did! Everything is packed full of flavour where the heat is balanced without being overpowering. Mouthwatering jerk chicken perfectly complimented by coconut rice. A shout out for the halloumi side with a delicious chip shop style batter, spicy sauce all of which is topped off with peppers and mango. The cocktails were some of the best we’ve ever tasted with the amaretto cherry lime sour a highlight. These are strong drinks where you get your monies worth! But the real jewel in the crown are the staff themselves. Sharon the manager came over to chat with us and made us feel really at home. We mentioned the lovely chap who was making the cocktails which turned out to be her son. You can tell this is a family business and there is real pride which shines through the food and drink. The atmosphere is like being on holiday - reggae tunes the perfect accompanying background music and not too loud so you can still have a conversation. We cannot wait to come back and join this party again :-)

The food though presented really well lacked that authentic Caribbean flavour or any flavour at all. It was quite bland! I'll assume that was just on the day (It happens!) The environ was beautiful and transporting (I didn't feel as if I was in Manchester), very nice. A lot of thought and work went into creating that I'm sure.

This is a fantastic hidden gem. If you can handle some heat you will like most of the menu. The cocktails are great as well. They are not measured and you get generous amounts of spirit. I have rarely dined at a place that has a high quality of food and drink. The icing on the cake was the owner Sharon. She is lovely : - )

The Pull-up bar in Manchester's Ancoats neighborhood is a great choice if you are craving Caribbean/Jamaican cuisine. Try the Big Plates. The food was full of flavour, and their cocktails were fantastic. The atmosphere is lively and fun, making it a great spot for a night out. I would highly recommend it if you find yourself in Ancoats wanting some Caribbean fare and drinks in a vibrant setting.

Great vibe! Attended the spoken word night on Monday and absolutely loved it. Dani Wright's art work is incredible- so talented. The poets words were beautiful. Overall a great night!

The face you only got jerk chicken for over £9 is Criminal in my opinion as an Jamaican the sauce is definitely not jerk at all wouldn’t recommend the chicken or their so called ‘chips’ which was basically just potato squares however their curry goat tasted very authentic and was delicious however there needs to be bigger portions of coleslaw and less rice

This place is FANTASTIC!!! Their should be a Pull Up Bar Cafe in every city in England. The food is fantastic with hench portions! I can't recommend this place enough. A brilliant night out with friends

We popped in to Pull Up for a quick bite to eat before a good at Band on the Wall opposite. I wish we'd had time to stay longer. I had Saltfish with beans and rice, and my son had chicken wings - both absolutely delicious. The saltfish was the best thing I've eaten for quite some time. A really friendly, laid back place to eat with truly wonderful food.

First time visit. pleased to find it was authentic carribean food. Varied menu, vegan and veggie options. I had the vegan box whilst my partner had the fish box. They also do jerk chicken / halloumi, ackee and salt fish and curried goat. Lots of lovely cocktails too. We will be back!

I don't think that's Jamaican food The curry goat was in this heavy sauce I a boul like soup Jamaican would never searve like that .I didn't enjoy it rice was cold definitely not the taste of JA people need to stop using JA names I would not recommend .that thick sauce make u want to feel sick like you want to throw up

We had a wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. The service from the staff was good. The owner herself came over and welcomed us and spoke with us for a while when we were leaving. The ambience and atmosphere is relaxing and inviting. The service from the chef and staff was great. They made sure everything was okay with the food and service, all the way through. We highly recommend the Pull Up Bar and will come again.

Amazing place in between Nq and ancoats , food was super tasty we had the Sunday roast and it had everything! The owner and workers are so warm and friendly can’t recommend enough !

From the minute we walked in we we felt at home in this intimate bar/restaurant. The staff were super attentive and very welcoming. We started with some cocktails which were out of this world but even they had to take a back seat to the incredible food. A MA ZING. Afterwards we were approached by the owner who asked if there was anything we’d change. Not one single thing. This was a 5 star experience. Oh and very good value too for a place that’s in the super trendy Northern Quarter.

Bit of a funny one. I had a carribean roast dinner, which in hindsight might not have been the best move. The chicken was cooked absolutely beautifully, but the assortment of things on the plate was kind of weird. I wish I'd just ordered from the main menu, so I could try what they usually serve. I like the environment, it's casual and inviting and was a fairly nice place to chill. We went on a silly hot day so it was dead, yet the service seemed kind of scattered and a little confused (though that may have been because of the heat). I enjoyed it but won't be rushing back for a roast. Though I will like to return to try their normal menu, as I suspect it will reflect the chef's skill better.

ordered chicken and halloumi and both were amazing! the seasoning for the chicken was great and the halloumi although was a bit spicy, was perfect. The environment super was super friendly and food came by very quickly. really recommend!

Had an amazing time here, food was great, however, the rum punch was a little bit watery and less sweet than usual and the portion sizes were running on the smaller side if we compared it to The Drop in Chorlton. Overall it was a nice one.
