Came to these lakes having been here for lunch a few times. Lakes are stunning and very well kept. I decided to try a day here recently as I had heard it is a nice easy casual lake. I went on a Friday and found a lovely swim. Unfortunately for me a group of kids circa aged 14 all in blue shirts with logos rocked up having been dumped by mummy and daddy and proceeded to plonk themselves between myself and another fella. All I can say is this place clearly does not care about the welfare of the fish. the bailiff came round (a lady) and took the money and drove off. Never checked the size of the net nothing. I had to endure their foul language, watching them yank the fish out no net, no mat no nothing to protect the fish, then they just lobbed them back in the lake. My wife was really upset and went to find the bailiff but she/he was not around. Its clear to me that this place is only interested in money and doesn't care about the welfare of the fish. I am a Carp angler and care deeply about all fish, I make sure I carry all the proper equipment and even bring along the treatments for fish that may have cuts or damage. This is the only lake I have been to where kids are allowed to fish without an adult. Everywhere else I go they have to be at least 16 and if not be with an adult. I would suggest that they bring a rule in for these kids and also put up a sign up about foul language! We wont be going back purely because of these incidents.

Place is dark and very dingy, lacks atmosphere. Toilets especially around taps were filthy dirty which shocked me with so many female staff working there. Queuing is a problem as youre blocking the door whilst waiting. Staff were friendly. Over all i not think of returning.

We visited the Puddledock cafe for a Christmas dinner and it was very good. The food is very nice, the cafe itself is a little sparse, but it is in the grounds of a fishing lake so you don’t really dress up to go there, however most people don’t dress up to eat out these days. The food was very good, staff attentive and value for money excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back as all round it’s very very good.

I don't know about the actual farm and fishery but is quite rude when I call to ask a few questions and I get the phone hunged up on my face. The guy who I spoke to was very rude as if he didn't want to be there. That makes me not want to ever be a customer of this company. Is just very frustrating how people cannot simply say cannot or do not want to help instead of hanging up the phone.

After a 3.5km walk with our dog, we decided to stop here for breakfast (despite the 4 way traffic lights on St Mary's Lane). I don't recall ever having a bad meal from here and today was no exception despite the fact it was busy with cyclists. The service was quick and the food was hot so there is nothing negative to say. The weather really helped so we sat outside but what I didn't understand was how someone we don't know joins our without asking? Another positive is that Puddledock welcomes dogs and I know not all of them are well behaved but to find a dog friendly cafe, is a real bonus.

A quick review to say that Puddledock cafe is still as good as it always as been. Hot food, great service, a friendly atmosphere and always busy. What makes this place good is the size of the menu. Basically the breakfast menu is small so they can concentrate on quality. Also, unlike some other cafes, you can pay by debit/credit card. We will return.

First off The Puddle is just a café so, yes the tables and chairs are a bit canteen but nothing wrong with that. I would imagine that this was probably a fishermans café and has evolved over time to cater for anybody who fancies good food at good prices. You can also sit outside if the weather is good.Breakfast is served to about 11-30 am and then the board goes up with the days menu on. They always seem to have a couple of standard items every day plus half a dozen other things, and then to boot all day breakfasts are available. Please note that the number 2 breakfast is in the top 5 of MadDogs full EnglishTop 20 of all time. This is a very substantial large fry up with toast added, very good ingredients and all for about £6-50. If you can't manage that the slightly smaller No1 is just as good. MadDog has also had good pies here, Steak puddings and Fish and chips. Mrs M says that the salads are pretty good as well.A couple of small gripes here. One, they should skin the fish they batter so if the frying oil does get inside you don't get a rubbery piece of skin to chew on.Two. I've had two number 2 breakfasts here in the last month and on both occasions the eggs are over cooked. Not sure how it happened but it would seem to MadDog that while the plate is waiting for the last items or waiting for the server to take it to the table it is placed somewhere too hot. Only four blobs for now but I'm sure these minor things can be sorted. MadDog was a chef in a previous life so he can get a bit picky. All in all a good place staffed by good people who are very friendly. Should be down in the next couple of weeks so lets see what happens.MadDog says "I can't get this fishing thing" !!

Visited 21/7/19 for a days fishing, Only 2 lakes open due to matches (I Know every wednesday/sundays snake is closed) this is not an issue if its advertised in advance on Facebook or there website, but went with a particular method for the island lake but this was closed so had to fish Road Lake. Not a bad lake but some of the people there were holding the bigger fish up to there chest whilst standing and dropped them. Didn't see anybody in position of a unhooking mat for the bigger fish (Carp). A few swims down it turned into a family day out with 2 people fishing and the rest of the family (About 10 of them) laying on loungers and talking very load and shouting across the lake.. If you want a quite day fishing this is not the place.

Visited with a group of friends for Sunday lunch. Excellent value roasts - beef, lamb at or turkey (at £8)and other favourites such as scampi, chips & side salad ( £7.80 ish). The nearest to good home cooked roasts we have tasted. The desserts are yummy and special at only £4. You need to book as very popular. Not a licensed premises but you can take own drinks - soft drinks available. Not perhaps the most pretty table set up but does this really matter when the food is this good!

Arrived at 14:45 ordered bacon baguette and chips and a cuppa. Waited while it was cooked. So that’s good as it’s fresh, however the baguette was so over cooked I could barely bite it and it didn’t carry a lot of bacon ! The chips... well ate two and that was me done they were brown and grainy and tasted awful. Either change your chip supplier or change your cooking oil if I didn’t see home get them out the freezer I would have said they were re heated. They were vile ! And no I didn’t complain as during this time the kitchen was cleaning down so it was clearly closing time soon. I didn’t want the embarrassment after all if you can’t get chips right what hope is there. I can here a few times about 18 months ago and it was great, hence today’s visit. Don’t know what’s gone wrong but sadly disappointed

Visited here for breakfast with my Fiancee and our friend. Now I haven't been to Puddledock for a few years so didn't know what to expect but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. For those who don't know, you can fish at Puddledock and there is also a bait/tackle shop on site also. I am not sure the cost of fishing as that isn't my thing but food certainly is.What I like is simpleness of the menu for breakast. There are 3 options including a vegetarian one which myself and my Fiancee opted for. The price was around £5.50 for breakfast also we did pay a little more as we had chips also. The breakfast was; 2 eggs, 2 hash (or bubble or fried slice if you'd like ), 3 tomatoes, beans and bread or toast. Now not a bad price at all. Our friend had a huge plate with sausages, eggs, toast, beans, mushrooms, bacon and toast also. The food was cooked to order and hot when it came. My only gripe was the chips were a little overcooked but the portion was generous.Service was very good and with a smile also. Now that always helps right? The lady who too our order was polite and courteous and even the staff in the kitchen seemed happy also. Th food is cooked in view of everyone which I think is a good thing as you can see what goes on.That's the review really. We visited when it was quiet but sometimes the car park which is pretty big, does get rammed so finding a space can be tricky.Overall, a good meal and we'd go back again.

We went with a friend who is a regular at this cafe near Upminster, Essex. A no frills eating place with a limited menu but well worth a visit. At Sunday lunch there was a good selection of meats as well as two 'with chips' options. We all ordered the roast lamb dinner and this came with a good selection of fresh, well cooked veg. The serving of lamb was generous and delicious. I asked for a separate jug of gravy and this was provided without fuss. Our waitress was friendly and very efficient. There was a good choice of home made desserts. Two of us opted for syrup sponge and again, very generous portions with loads of hot custard. The other person in our group had the apple and strawberry crumble. I consider myself a good, plain cook and on the whole I prefer food I have cooked myself. I could not fault this meal and I really enjoyed the relaxed, informal atmosphere. They don't have a license but they are most willing to provide glasses if you take your own wine. The bill for three of us was under £40. I just wish we lived nearer to this cafe as we should return again and again.

Wow not what you expect at all, a cafe at a fishing lake, I would expect a snack, a greasy spoon, not the best. But wow were we surprised. After a visit to my dad in a local care home we were rather peckish and fancied some food beofre heading home to Bedfordshire. So we had researched the area a couple of pubs or puudledock, we decided to try puddledock the car park was busy, we entered the cafe and were surpirised how big it was with a menu of interesting dishes to choose from, we went for the fry up with toast abd a coffee and two teas. The breakfast was delivered within 15 minutes maximum hot and tasty, bacon grilled nicely, not under or overcooked. Then the toast arrived not the usual doughy bread you normally get but proper cut fresh bread toasted. Staff were all friendly and helpful throughout, clean and tidy and good competitive pricing too. Try Puddledock you will be nicely surprised. I only wish you were nearer Bedford so it could be a regular treat, we better call Kirsty and Phil to relocate you nearer!

Finally with friends we made time to book a table at The Bank to try the Indian food we had heard so much about and we were not disappointed. It was a pleasure to read a menu that had dishes we were familiar with and some new dishes that we were pleased to try. Explanations were given when we made our order and there were no disappointments. The food was freshly cooked and very well presented. It was a very good atmosphere in the Bank with most people having a meal, but it is also a Bar. Sorry I didn't take any photos, thank you for a lovely evening we will definitely be back.

I absolutely love the food here. The pie and mash is one of the best around. However, I do also go and eat breakfast there a fair bit and it's definitely the best in the area and exceptionally good value for money. Freshly cooked food where they don't skimp on portions is amazing. The chef does lovely cakes (defo try the cherry bakewell!), although I would say he sometimes gets his recipes slightly wrong as they sink in the middle but still taste wonderful lol One thing that lets them down in the young girl that serves in there who is grumpy and looks like she's been sucking on lemons. Brighten up a bit! She's the only reason why I have taken off mark. I felt like putting it back cos Rodders makes up for a lot of things :)
