Met up with a friend whom I haven’t seen for a while .I decided on the Puckersley. What a disappointment,we ordered a chicken roast dinner ,the chicken was dry and chewy, roast potatoes were hard. After reading some of the reviews i just wish I’d read them before I’d gone Very disappointed and certainly will not be returning.

the puckersley is an amazing pub with a brilliant atmosphere, the food single handedly could change a bad day to a good one. the waitresses are a lovely set of women with great manners and amazing attitudes towards work. our waitress liv was a sweetheart who gave my nephew an extra chocolate and made his day! will always recommend this pub for food or for a drink 10/10 will always go back.

Been here quite a few times but this time it was shocking! My son had the haddock goujon on ciabatta and I had the Cajun chicken pitta. The haddock goujons came with a homemade sauce that was nothing like any tartar sauce I’ve ever had before. Full of herbs and green corns. Had my own restaurant that made their own tartar sauce that was a sauce and people came back for time and time again asking for more. This was just a lump of herbs etc and hardly any sauce. I’m not fussy but it was disgusting! We complained it was awful and the waitress said they could do another one without?! Why would you want it without a decent tartar sauce plus I was eating mine ( 5 tiny and I mean tiny chicken pieces). Didn’t want to wait longer as we had already waited (hardly anyone else in there so why it took so long I have no idea! I left half my dry pitta as no chicken and my son left all his bread and scrapped off as much of the ‘tartar’? Sauce as he could. His bread was overly toasted too so must have been stale. Went to pay and asked about any discount or anything off my sons meal as so bad. Also told her about the lack of chicken in the pitta (her answer was they use a full chicken breast…more like a chicken strip cut into tiny pieces! ) her answer was no as they had offered to recook a haddock goujon meal but we declined (didn’t want to wait another hour!) Don’t waste your time or money. So disappointed by the food service etc when we have been so many times before……never again !

My friend telephoned in advance to ask if they served vegan dishes and they confirmed they did. On arrival the only thing on the menu was a moving mountain burger (fine) on a brioche bun (not fine) with Monterey Jack cheese (not fine). I asked if it could be made completely vegan. And they assured me they could. On arrival it looked ok. Apart from the tub of coleslaw - not vegan. I asked about it and their response was ‘oh it’s a new chef, he didn’t know’. Well he ain’t a chef then is he. No proper apology, I am now concerned about the onion ring I ate but can’t do anything about that now. Not going there again. They said the brioche bun on the menu was a typo!! Really??

Visited this delightful restaurant after a bad experience further down the road . Phoned from the first venue and they very kindly gave us a table .We were met at the door by a very friendly member of staff who took details and showed us to our seats - plenty of sanitizer and tables spaced out well . Waitresses wore visors and everyone kept to the rules putting on masks when moving to toilets or leaving premises . Drinks arrived quickly and so did the the food which was delicious . Nothing too much trouble .i would recommend this restaurant very highly . In summer great views at the rear.

I visited the Puckersley late afternoon was Seated at a table I requested, Service took a long time on each course of meal, I asked for Cod Goujons for my 1 year old Grandson, the Hot Plate arrived with a very large Burnt Cod Fish, I said I had ordered Cod Goujon, to be told they don’t do Goujons it’s a fish. They then returned the meal with Chicken Goujons which where very tasty....... My Son Ordered Cottage Pie, it arrived with a side plate!of salad, no mention of Red Cabbage, or chips, the waitresses Said it doesn’t come with chips or Red Cabbage, I ideared and looked at the menu which clearly stated Chips and Red Cabbage, the waitress apologised. It seems no one understands what food goes with each set menu. I had to also mention about supplying of Condiments and Cutlery. I asked for a small spoon for my one year old grandson, a large tablespoon was brought to the table for him along with a very hot plate. My own plate was not hot neither my other guests sat at the table was not served a Hot Plate. Other than that the food was remarkably priced well.

Heard good things about the Puckersley, so thought we would try an early Saturday dinner. We were warmly welcomed and seated promptly, There was a good choice from the menu, but now having had them I strongly recommend the chicken wings starter, my wife thoroughly enjoyed the pate. From the specials board I had the monkfish tandoori again I thoroughly enjoyed while my wife had the halloumi enchilada again enjoyed. Both dishes were extremely tasty cooked to perfection. We searched the area for lunch in a beer garden and found this pub with lovely views and well spaced tables in the beer garden. The ordering process for outside food was good with a one way system set up for ordering drinks at the bar and food at the exit to outdoors. I was given a beer garden menu and ordered peppered steak. The staff were friendly. The food took quite a while to arrive and it was a disappointment when it did. It was served on a paper napkin in what looked like a red plastic kitchen caddy. The napkin had soaked up most of the pepper sauce. The steak itself was well cooked and the chips were good. However, the appearance of the meal was off-putting.

we rang to book a table on this glorious day during Covid and supporting local businesses, however we were told the restaurant was full but could eat in the beer garden if there was a table before 5pm. long story short we couldn't eat outside as the restaurant was full!!! that was the first bit of confusion. we managed to get a table at 7pm as my son changed his mind about eating there. the staff had worked very hard to make it an enjoyable experience but we had to wait ages for everything. i wanted salt and pepper to season my food as it was quite tasteless (mushrooms in a creamy sauce with ciabatta and my husband had pate that was very strong in taste but not seasoned). by the time it arrived the food was going cold. we had a main of beef roast dinner and steak with chips. the same thing happened. i did think i may find room for a dessert but due to the long waiting times i changed my mind. just little niggly things like being told our food was ready and then waiting over 10mins as there was a mix up. Then being given a dessert menu but being told it was the old one! was just a few issues that add up. the staff were working hard to keep everyone happy but their systems need tweaking. ie keeping a little stash of condiments nearer or pre empting the customer may want basic seasoning. two hours to eat and wait for a starter and main certainly put me off ordering a dessert. the experience wasn't horrid but I'm not sure we will be going back anytime soon.

This place on the fringe of Oldham has recently been refurbished to a high standard & has the benefit of 2 decent sized car parks, lovely views over open countryside with great outdoor eating/drinking areas. Welcome is warm and friendly. Menu is extensive and would suit everyone. We chose the Roast Beef dinner based upon how good it looked when it was served to diners on a nearby table -- and it was VERY GOOD. Clearing our plates away when we finished was very POOR -- in fact they remained there as we paid the bill. I'd go again but to be helpful; I would suggest the owner should invest in Front of House Staff /Waitress training as this is well below par.

The place itself has fantastic views and the food is not bad. However, the service needs improvement! Our finished plates remained on the table for a good 20 mins. By this time we would have expected table clearance and a check whether we needed anything else. We flagged a member of staff for attention who was at a distance, her initial response 'the bill?' ours was 'coffees please' What followed was rolling eyes at us as though we were bothering her..She came over reluctantly and took the order of 2 different coffees and also telling us she needed the table in the next 45 mins.Few minutes later, another member of staff (who was pleasant) came over and took our order again??? It is clear the first had no intention of taking our coffee order. How can you forget an order of 2 items? On our leave, the same stood by the till at this time did not even make eye contact or say thank you/goodbye.Don't worry we won't be back to bother you again!!!

We visited the Puckersley quite late, at around 3pm, so the restaurant was not busy and the few other people there had finished their meals, but I have to say we did find the service a bit on the slow side. Fortunately we were not in a hurry and were happy to have a leisurely lunch. The waitress brought us menus and asked what we would like to drink. I said I would just have wine with the meal and the waitress then asked which wine. As we had not even opened the menus nor been offered the wine list I said that we couldn't choose the wine until we had chosen the food, at which point the waitress left without offering the wine list. Who trains these staff? It's not rocket science. Show the customer(s) to the table, taking the menu and wine list with you. Give them the menus and ask if they would like to see the wine list, then ask if they would like any drinks before the meal. For starters I had what has become quite a common starter; scallops served on black pudding with a pea purée.This was as good as any I have had. My wife had soup which she said was very good. For main course my wife had rag pudding, which was excellent, and I had duck served three ways, the breast sautéed, some unspecified part of the bird served in a croquette, and confit of the leg. It was all excellent but the leg was the star of the dish. The skin was crispy and the meat was very tender. My duck came with a basket of slim, crispy chips with a fluffy inside. My wife was jealous because her chips were approximately six large ones of the chunky sort which seem to have become the fashion, but are neither crisp on the outside nor fluffy on the inside. I suppose that, having a smaller surface area, they absorb less fat.To drink with the meal we had two large glasses of a very drinkable but reasonably-priced Rioja (where else can you get a 250ml glass for under a fiver). Pricewise the Puckersley is (give or take) similar to other places for the food but the drinks seem very reasonable. We could have had a bottle of the Rioja for under £15, which might have cost £18 or £19 elsewhere. For dessert my wife had a creme brulée (very nice) and I had sticky toffee pudding and custard. The sticky toffee pudding was a light sponge containing dates and not tooth-rottingly sweet like some are, and the custard appeared to be home-made.The only reason I don't give the Puckersley a score of 5 is because the service was on the slow side and the argy-bargy with the wine list. Mind you, I have visited pub-restaurants where I've been shown to the table and not given a menu, just asked if I would like a drink.

Atmospheric pub, you feel the separation between the food and bar but in a good way. The waitresses are waitresses, they aren't overly interested in you but are efficient. For a family of 4 we had 2 starters and 4 main courses with a couple of drinks each, the bill was approx £85. The starters were served on fresh leaves, we had salt and pepper chicken wings with sweet chilli sauce and tempura prawns again served with sweet chilli sauce. I thought that the supermarket type tempura prawns would be what would be served, but no, light tempura coating king prawns, delicious. We had an assortment of mains, a chicken caesar salad that the girl said is so tasty. The boy had steak with a peppercorn sauce. The steak was requested to be well done and it was, the peppercorn sauce was serviced in it's own little pan allowing the boy to put on as much as he wanted. The sauce had that hint of peppercorn rather than being overpowering. The husband had gammon, which he said was good, with rather nice looking eggs, that hadn't been frizzled to within an inch of their lives. Both the steak and gammon were served with real, homemade chips rather than the frozen variety. They both agreed that the chips needed a little more work on them, I think they might have been a bit soggy rather than crisp. They are thick cut rather than thin and weedy. I had a cheese burger which is a thick homemade beef patty, it is rather bland, there was something missing, herbs or seasoning I'm not sure but there was something missing, however, with some peppercorn sauce from the boy to help it along all was not lost. I cannot recommend highly enough the salt and pepper chips that the Puckersley make fresh, they are soooooo good, worth that extra £1. These are the french fries variety of chip and oh so tasty.

The king prawns were the best weve ever had, the rack of lamb and chicken was cooked perfectly and to finish it off, the baileys chocolate mousse for dessert was to die for, best meal weve had in a long time. Weve also been in for the afternoon tea recently and that was lovely too, good value for money and the staff were nice and friendly, would definate recommend!!

We were visiting family and meeting up with old friends, so we decided to have a meal before we met. We phoned to book a table the day before, but it went to answer service and got the message that someone will call us back.

We had family meal here and found the food was average . Staff not very helpful and a little abrupt. Although the food was hot the main meal was minimal. We had to ask for the table to be cleaned before eating. Although we had a pleasant evening with the family we will not rush to go back. I think staff training in customer service would be advisable .

Ordered the 'meal deal' (two courses for £10.95) and on receiving my chilli, I enquired with the waitress where the nachos were, who then went to ask the kitchen only for her return to tell me that they'd ran out. No offer of a discount for something that was part of the meal or an alternative ie a portion of chips for example may have been nice. The dessert was chocolate tart with Ferrero Rocher ice cream which I can only assume had just come out of the blast chiller as they were rock hard!! Very disappointing visit all round I'm sorry to report.

The menu here sounds promising but really fails to deliver. It is just very basic pub grub. I have given it a try three times in recent months but have overall been disappointed each time. One visit was with a friend needing gluten free and she ended up eating sliced sandwich ham with beans. There was really nothing at all suitable. Staff are reasonably as helpful as they can be given the menu constraints. Unfortunately I won’t be giving it a fourth chance.

Not been here for a long time. Went on a Saturday lunchtime , when it was very quiet , good service for a table , order but then we had to wait ages for our food. Hubby had fish and chips, I had scampi, sister had chicken curry & my bro had prawn sandwich with fries. The hand cut chips had clearly been reheated & we’re probably left over from the night before, very disappointing. Food was ok but nothing special. Out of the 4 meals the prawn sandwich with fries looked the freshest and tastiest. We made the mistake of ordering sweets , which again we had to wait an unreasonable amount of time & we were about to leave when they arrived. However the fruit crumble was very nice . I’d go again if in the area but wouldn’t make a special trip.

Meal lovely, atmosphere really nice, friendly pub and friendly faces, the only thing that lets the place down is the staff out the front. The waitresses don’t know how to order, nor do they ask you do you want anymore drinks. The main waitress manager couldn’t remember anything, and it wasn’t hard, an elderly man asked for water at the beginning of his meal, and half way through he had to asked again. They need to sort out waitresses. Lively place though and food lovely.

This is a great countryside pub to visit it has great view from the side of the pub and even better if you are lucky enough to get a seat on a warm summers night The pub sells some great beer, Lees's brewery has come up with some great beers lately, my wife and i visited the pub very recently and had a lovely evening and as for the staff they are very freindly and quite efficient, if you like some music on Friday nights they have an artist on which is no for me but a lot of people do but allain a great place to visit.

Food absolutely lovely food, father in law and mother In law liked it very much. Just a couple of things which was disappointing, there was no coffee afterwards as we was told coffee machine broke, none of the nice little chocolate treats with bill, as my father in law likes one of those after his meal. So we all came back home for coffee. On the whole the restaurant is really really nice.

I went with my mum yesterday, was a little disappointed to be told the beef pudding was off the menu as that was what i had wanted but my second choice was a roast dinner we were told they had pork and beef we both picked pork only to be told they only had 1 pork left so i had the beef. Unfortunately when it came the pork was actually a thick very overcooked tough pork loin not what you expect when you order a roast dinner. My beef was slightly better although it had quite a lot of fat/gristle on it. The portions were a good size shame about the food. We will not go back again. We should have sent the pork back as it wasnt as offered but didnt think to do so and the waitress didnt offer when my mum told her not as expected and wouldnt have ordered a pork steak. Also you need to like hard vegetables, i know a lot of people do nowadays unfortunately we dont but managed

Amazing place, will be so sad to see it go in a few weeks. Love the food, staff are fantastic, and every time I have been they have been supportive, helpful and fully experienced. Considering some are volunteering, they are an amazing team. The food has always been way above average. Will miss this place.

Really enjoy coming to the boat and horses for a carvery on a Sunday, plenty of fresh veg to choose from, Lovley mash potatoes and roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese is also nice. Yorkshire puddings can be a hit and miss, sometimes you get a perfect Yorkshire, other times it can be a flat Yorkshire to a stale Yorkshire that’s been sat under a carvery deck light all day. Just depends what times you go and how busy they have been. Also different options of gravy. The breakfast is fantastic also at the boat and horses. Been so many times for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I like the selection of the hot breakfast. Includes all the usual inc black pudding, mushrooms and if you prefer a porch egg to a fried egg then just ask the waiter and the chef will do you 1. Service wise, the staff could be more interactive with their customers. I have walked in when it’s been really busy stood at the waiting station for 10 mins whilst staff have a chat when the customer should come 1st. Overall it’s better than toby carvery by a long shot and the price what you pay certainly can’t be moaned at
