Back in the days it was one of my favourite spots, unfortunately it seems like noone cares as much anymore. Tables, menus, chairs, stuff on the table, deco.. all dirty, outside terrace also not tidy or clean. It's a shame with such a lovely spot. We have came for dinner and left after one beer. For the price you can find better spots.

Truly gorgeous pub, absolutely oozing with history (and there’s lots written around the place to learn from, on the walls etc). Ladies toilets could do with be sorted out - the radiator has half melted (?) from being under the hand dryer and accumulated lots of dirt. Staff were nice but not efficient, but one can’t really hold that against them.

They say it is the first pub in London, a very particular environment with an ancient soul, everything kept to perfection and managed in an excellent way. The food is also good, which is not to be taken for granted being in a suburb of London... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I really wanted to love this place. Fantastic history, great views of the Thames, and on the face of it, a great pub menu. I ordered the steak pie with mash but the pie was so overcooked, I couldn’t even get my knife into the pastry. It was just about at the send it back to the kitchen stage, but I was really hungry and short of time so ate it anyway, pouring gravy over it to soften the pastry. Would definitely return for a beer but not to eat.

Really nice traditional pub. Haven't been here in years, but shouldn't leave it so long next time. Wonderful Historic atmosphere, well kept ale and always nice to have a glass with a handle. Decent food at not over the top prices. Starters were excellent; vegetarian burger was very pleasant. Crab burger looked fantastic if perhaps not as flavoursome as I was anticipating, but nice.

if these walls could talk.... ....they would say this is a great place. obviously there's a lot of history because this has been around for over 500 years, however, the inside has been updated and looks modern. The restaurant has two floors as well as outdoor seating. The ambiance is nice with just the right amount of noise to add to the atmosphere. Tables are a good distance apart and comfortable. The food is exceptional and the serving sizes are more than generous. everything is well cooked, seasoned, and the sauces were plentiful. ait's not a large menu, which is good, generally it means the food is freshly prepared. there are fish, chicken, beef, and some veggie options as well. The service was helpful, patient, and attentive. it is a unique place and definitely worth trying.

Disappointing visit to Whitby a couple of weeks ago. We booked a table and when we arrived the waiters downstairs were unable to help and left us standing in the middle of a busy pub rather than guiding/directing us to our reserved table upstairs. Then the food was disappointing, the portions were tiny, the fish and chips meal came with around 7 chips and a few french fries sprinkled into the mix. Then my partner was given a burning hot plate. The portions and quality of food did not amount to nearly the cost of £18 per main dish. I would not recommend and was hard to have a £14 service charge on top considering this was meant to a lovely birthday meal instead it turned into daylight robbery.

It's an amazing place with different sections to sit in both upstairs, downstairs, indoor and outdoor. There are many notes explaining the history of this place which were very interesting. We ordered beef burger with pork belly confit which was very good. The fish and chips unfortunately was a bit below par as the fish was too dry and not as fresh as expected. The batter was crispy though and I enjoyed the chips. Maybe it's not the right place to order fish.

Was so excited to visit this pub. Can't deny how historic it is, and the riverside location is great. However, on the day, the service was painfully slow (15 minutes in a 2-person deep queue). I ordered a Kellerbier, not available, ordered a Camden Hells, not available, ordered a Estrella, not available. Most pubs put a glass over the pump for beers not available to avoid this. Staff seemed annoyed throughout. Such a shame. Edit: The Peroni I did get was flat. The experience with the bar staff ensured we didn't stay for a second drink. While I understand it can get busy, when we arrived, it wasn't particularly busy. As mentioned before, location is great and the history is worth a visit, but ultimately, it was disappointing.

One of the best looking pubs in London with probably the worst service of any pub in the northern hemisphere. You could set yourself on fire and wait at the main bar for 20 minutes and whichever useless member of staff is serving drinks will still ask "who's next?" EDIT: I got a faster reply on Google reviews than I normally get a pint at the bar. I've lived in Wapping for years and it's always the same story, so it's no disrespect to anyone in particular other than whoever is fannying around on Google instead of serving drinks on a "busy" evening. What is disrespectful is being left waiting at the bar for 20 minutes.

Great atmosphere but it's a shame about the food, mine anyway, my partners fish cakes were nice (so she said) but he salad was quite minimal,. I ordered sirloin steak Ciabatta which was the only option as the chicken and bacon caibatta was unavailable. Unfortunately it was down hill from this point, the steak was quite possibly the worst chewy sinew'y meat I can probably say I've had and inedible, the salad again was lame and non existent, overall have to say we left extremely disappointed tbh, we come London to a lot and unfortunately we will not be returning to this pub Sorry guys 3-10 .

Known as the oldest riverside inn, the Prospect of Whitby has a lot of old world charm and is certainly worth a visit. We ate dinner there on the ground floor however, I do believe they also have a restaurant on the first floor. The menu contained the usual British pub grub food though the chef has added to the menu with a number of more gastric options including duck or Korean style chicken. We all ended up with fish and chips as the items we all wanted had sold out. The pub served a number of different ales and as I didn't know them they let me test them. They also had a decent selection of ciders. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The experience was fine. Very busy when we visited and people crowding the bar/just standing around for no reason making it difficult to get around. There were plenty of tables available upstairs, maybe they could have been directed up there instead of standing in the way to have a chat? While waiting to order, staff were serving people in any random order which meant people pushing in were being served before others who had been waiting longer. It just wasn't acceptable, extremely frustrating and no apology. So many drinks were unavailable. On one hand, it was busy but on the other, it was a sunny Saturday, do they not order stock to take increased custom due to the weather into account? Food was fine. It took a long time to arrive and can't say the waiting staff were particularly friendly.

No one checking on you when you have food, they put you off when asking what's nice ie deserts lemon tart with raspberry sorbet. "It's too sour/bitter" it's definitely the staff letting it down. I'm an ex pub owner and restaurant. The staff need better training, check on those with food, see if they need anything with 5 mins of serving, recommend things etc...No ones been rude but no ones been giving any form of service either. The Prospect of Whitby is on my must visit list every time I'm in London. Founded in 1520 as The Pelican, the Prospect has its original slate floor. It has a lot of seating with river views...both inside and outside. The food has improved since the pandemic and is now excellent. If you want a more formal dining experience, sit upstairs either in the Smugglers Bar (Captain Kidd was a regular here) or on the river side. Princess Margaret's favorite table is by the window on the river side upstairs. We're quite happy to eat downstairs looking out at the river traffic. Kids love this. I had the Fish Ragout. It was excellent with a lovely hake fillet and delicious vegetable sauce. The traditional steak pie and cod and chips are nice. Great chips here. But the biggest surprise was they've added Eaton Mess to the dessert selection. OMG! It was memorable with lots of thick cream and a wonderful blackberry coulis. We're still talking about how great the Mess was. My English wife and our grandchildren returned the following Sunday for the traditional and delicious Sunday Roast. No scrimping here ...Roast Beef, Half a Chicken or Pork, Yorkshire and full fresh veg selection. Of course we had the Eaton Mess, again. A great view and great food for Sunday Roast.
