Dreadful Management and service! Out of malt vinegar at 12:00 on a sunny Saturday! We went into the Prospect this past Saturday very sunny day. The staff is miserable and not friendly. We ordered two portion of chips for the kids which took longer than expected. When they arrived there was no set up or condiments we ask for Ketchup, Mayo and malt vinegar. The waitress said “we are out of vinegar” Who runs out of vinegar on a Saturday? and if you do run to the corner shop. Not only did they run out of vinegar the condiment bottles were empty. Not a nice place to go anymore 😩

Absolutely appalling what has happened to the Prospect - once almost impossible to get a table the pub was almost empty, cheesy music playing incredibly loud, poor drinks on draft, unfriendly staff, food service stops at 8:30. A very sad story for this incredible place, hopefully the management sort it out soon.

Stopped by The Prospect of Whitby on Saturday and had a great time. The view over the Thames is stunning — you can watch the river snake past while enjoying a pint. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were friendly, and there’s a nice choice of brews on tap. A proper London pub with plenty of character.

I visited on Saturday night in a party of four and had booked a table. I knew the pub had a wedding going on upstairs which turns out comprised of 200 people. We arrived early and our table wasn’t ready which was perfectly acceptable and we weren’t expecting it. At 6pm, Leanne came over and asked the people sitting at the table to leave and then cleaned the table for us. Leanne then served us throughout the night. Despite being incredibly busy and rushed off her feet, Leanne was an absolute star. Not only was she hard working, she was exceptionally helpful, friendly and also very funny. We had table service all night which negated the need to queue up at the bar. Nothing was too much trouble for Leanne and she is an amazing brand ambassador for Greene King pubs. Please pass on our thanks to her. She’s one to hold onto!

I once considered this establishment the best pub in London, but my recent visit left me disappointed, particularly with the food and service in the upstairs dining area. Upon arrival, we encountered unclean tables and a lack of staff coordination. Guests were left searching for assistance to be seated, indicating a clear disconnect among the waitstaff. The meal was equally underwhelming. I ordered a salad that was described as an onion salad but consisted predominantly of onions, a few pieces of halloumi, wilted lettuce, and lacked any dressing. It was far from appetizing. However, it's worth noting that the ladies at the bar provided exceptional service. Their friendliness and professionalism stood out and were the highlight of the evening. I hope the management addresses the issues upstairs to match the high standards set by the bar staff.

A very quaint pub that, according to the signage, has existed on the Thames since 1520. It was very crowded when we got there on a Friday evening, but we still found a place. The tables were a bit sticky, which may have been because there were only two waiters running around the entire area clearing the tables. Orders can only be placed at the bar downstairs, but food is brought to the seat. Both guests and staff were extremely friendly. The food was extremely tasty, we had burgers and fish and chips. The view of the Thames is really beautiful, especially in the evening. I liked imagining who had come here in the past. I find the idea of dining in a room that was once used for boxing matches particularly fun. A mental journey into a bygone London...

I have been to the prospect of Whitby about 10 times but never eaten there but I had planned to see a show in the afternoon and I said to my we would go there for dinner should not have bothered. I had fish and chips and my wife had steak and we had a salad. I have worked fish restaurant and I trained to be a fishmonger 50 years ago. But I would never serve up food like that. The food came the chips were warm and the fish was fried to death with dried up peas I thought I would try a bit of the fish but it was inedible so we called the waiter over and he said I am very sorry ser and took it away and 5 minutes later another fish and chips came out this time the chips were hot and the peas were still dried up and the fish was a tail peace of cod I don't mind frozen cod but that was rubbish and a pub with a good reputation should not be selling food like that I took half the fish home with to photograph it but it all stuck to the tissue. My wife's steak had Grissel running through it. It's a shame because we were looking forward to having a nice meal

Not even close to being the oldest pub. Don't know why they insist on spouting this nonsense. Wasn't built until the 1800s. Sure, there may have been another pub on the site - so? Note, St Paul's Cathedral doesn't claim to be 1500 years old, what with being built to replace the previous cathedral - which replaced the previous church, which replaced the church before that... It correctly claims it was built in the 1600s ON THE SITE of previous iterations. That's true of the Prospect too. Don't be fooled by replica interiors and PR lies. I mean heck, it's not even quite old by British standards. There are other genuinely much older pubs in London. For those tourists interested in visiting the actual oldest pub, that's Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - a pub building in continuous service as a pub since the 1500s.

Generally I have not been disappointed by a pub roast dinner for a long time now. It is a beautiful historical building and this experience was extremely bad. I think the owner should consider to spend more resources in the kitchen and offer the quality products that reflects the cost of the food that customer is paying for. It’s worth to visit because of its historical importance and a pint but that is all.

Heritage! The tavern was formerly known as The Pelican and later as the Devil’s Tavern, on account of its dubious reputation. All that remains from the building's earliest period is the 400-year-old stone floor. The pub features 18th-century panelling and a 19th-century facade. The pub has a pewter-top bar and is decorated with many nautical objects. In former times it was a meeting place for sailors,  smugglers, cutthroats and footpads. The Prospect of Whitby is a historic public house on the northern bank of the River Thames at Wapping, in the East End of London and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It lays claim to being on the site of the oldest riverside tavern, dating from around 1520. Wikipedia.

Situated right by the river with two terraces for guests to enjoy, the location is really lovely, especially with the big tree right by the pub. Everything is fairly well taken care of and the only thing that is not up to standard is the rather horrible playlist that was playing the entire evening. Stopped by for a quick meal. We went for the TGH special burger with katsu curry wedges. We also ordered a coconut mocktail (their version of pin pina colada) was very standard but refreshing. The main meal was delicious and satisfying. Restaurant decor was fresh and clean. Waiter was helpful and quick with the service. We will definitely go back! Thanks

Could be one of the best Costa cafes in London. The windows seat view of Tower of London is smashing. I'd bring tourists here next time if we needed a place to sit. Take the entrance from the main road, not the south side if you want to avoid the steps. It's right by Tower of London, which was when I first visited London, one of my favourite paid attractions. Cafes can get pretty busy and some you don't feel like you can stay. This one seemed pretty laid back. I've found when I do go to Costa, staff are generally pretty chilled. I popped in on a Wednesday evening and it was quiet. I only stayed for about 5 minutes. It was one of those gorgeous blue sky everyone is out enjoying the sunshine moments. There was so much happy positive vibes everywhere and I was so happy to be strolling the London streets soaking it all in. What I like about Costa is that being a member- it's free, just download the app - you get free cake which you can pick up any time in the week after your birthday. I love anywhere that treats you for your birthday. More places should be offering these kinds of freebies. It buys a serious amount of goodwill and I am happy to go to a Costa because I think about how lovely it is they give me something like this. They have a strawberry and lemon cake which I got to take away. It's kind of like a Victoria Sponge. The counter staff were friendly and so lovely, even though it was the end of probably a very long day.
