Went in this morning for two coffees and a cheese pasty. The lady who served me was great, we hand a quick chat about the disappearance of Costa in the town. All the staff were working hard and doing their job. The place was clean and tidy, the coffees were great and the pasty was perfect! Would highly recommend and definitely go back. The menu isn’t huge but if you take it for what it is it’s a great place with fantastic staff.

Bought 2 lamb and mint pasties today, for £9.00......never again, barely a teaspoon of lamb MINCE in the middle and virtually no mint, the whole thing was just full of potato......don't waste your money. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. We bought the pasties to take home and have them for lunch, we live 15 or so miles away, so no, we are not coming back. Secondly, had we found a park bench and eaten them in the local vicinity, how much of it should we eat before deciding to bring them back, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or all of it ? I'm sorry, but what we had was poor and not value for money. We won't trouble you again.

My son bought me a Bakewell tart here whilst on holiday this week. What a disappointment. The home of Bakewell tart no less, ought to hang their heads in shame. Pastry much too thick and stodgy, half a spoon if tasteless jam, topping did nothing to salvage the experience. My mum (a wonderful baker) could knock their effort into a cocked hat.

The shop owner was closing for the day and gave us a discount to buy the remaining stock of baked goods. He then gave us some sausage rolls for the road. We were visiting from America and hadn’t had any of it before so the gesture was greatly appreciated.

I cannot give enough praise to this amazing little shop. The pasties taste amazing and are very filling. The deserts are incredible too. I did not get the lady's name who was working in the store on Friday 10th May but her customer service has set the bar very high. She was very helpful, polite and patient and went above and beyond expectations when there was an accident with one of the desserts we had bought. I cannot give enough praise or recommend this little gem high enough.

I've been going to this fine establishment for the past 9 years and never had a bad thing to say. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. Don't belive any of the negative comments on here, they will just be out of towners, who are so used to buying the greggs, that they don't know what good food tastes like anymore. Keep the great work, the coustmer service and the great food. I'm a devoted customer to these ladies and will not step foot in any of the other pastie shops

Was really looking forward to this reopening after lock down for a pasty fix. Pleased to see chilli and cheese for the special and having sampled this several times before thought it would be delicious. Noticed the prices had gone up and when I opened my bag to take a bite it was some horrible, over cooked flaky puff pastry exterior, the filling was crammed full of those awful red beans, loads of potato and not much else. After two bites I threw it. There are other flavours to choose from which are quite tastey but the theme seems to be they are all potato and swede and very little else. Will not be rushing back

I went to this shop as it sells pasties, it doesn't matter how small the shop is or if it is wedged between other buildings, it's a pasty shop not the ritz, you dont eat in, so why write a review on a pasty shop based on the shop size, you are reviewing the pasty's & service. The lady who has served me several times is extremely pleasnt & efficient, there traditional large pasties are excellent because they are made in Cornwall they are lovely.

If you attempted to eat the cheese pastie you will get blisters! Even though these pasties were disappointing we had to pay £3 for each. They also only took cash. We ended up wishing we went to Greg's where we could have had 3 amazing pasties and a drink for a fraction of the prise. Plus you can pay on card!!

if I could give zero stars I would. Went in yesterday about 4pm to get a lamb and mint pasty. With how the signs were positioned around the pasties it looked to me that she was giving me a spicy one. I questioned her, because my partner gets very poorly with anything spicy. She told me she always has 1 in front and 1 behind the sign (a stupid way in my opinion) anyway it was the wrong one and after 1 bite it made him very ill all night.

Proper Pastry Co., 3 Water Lane, Bakewell DE45 1EUEating Cornish pasties in Bakewell Derbyshire …. Hmmm, makes you think about priorities, etc. of ‘When in Rome ….’. Can’t come to Bakewell without at least sampling one of those traditional dolce for which this small town is famous throughout the English-speaking world: Bakewell tarts & Bakewell puddings. But … we’d ordered Cornish pasties. Well, the shop specialized in them; it was lunchtime and tarts and puddings are best associated with afternoon tea (or a second/third course after the mains). Earlier we’d walked passed a shop in Matlock Street that had taken its name from this culinary delight – but, when we looked inside, it had been dark and full to overflowing. Well …. the thought had been there. The Proper Pasty Co was shoe-horned into just about the smallest space ever; there’s no way that you could ‘swing a cat in …’ this one. (Never heard that saying before? It comes from taking a break in the Peak District – one of those iconic parts of England in which time appears to have stood still – here you have this gorgeous patchwork of stone-walled fields, sheep/cattle grazing and rolling green country with a scattering of villages hidden in the valleys, limestone outcrops, rivers that have followed the tracks of ancient glaciers and scoured out narrow beds that once provided ancient trails and, now, easy walking for your modern-day hiker/day-tripper. This is a glimpse of the English countryside at its best. So, it’s easy to slip into old fashion language.)We found the pasty shop in the tweeky tourist-focused part of town squeezed in between the River Wye and Bridge Street – everything renovated, smart and novel; the majority food/eating shops and, in the sunshine of early September, the haunt of the holiday-maker; if not the wall-to-wall grey brigade, then a fair number of them fitted that description – all tucking into their local fayre. We were looking to join them. The Proper Pasty shop, like the area around it was smart, pristine clean, full of light; the shop window full of pasties that looked inviting. We’d been searching for a place to sit and eat – spacious, comfortable, etc. and preferably inside (given the keen wind that was blowing off the hills around). We were the only ones in the shop – and took up half the table/seating available, but it was only the takeaway trade that followed us in during our time. The Cornish pasties looked delicious. It helped that presentation was good – glass, light, clear descriptors/prices, etc. Friendly serving lady too.We asked the friendly lady. ‘Isn’t there some kind of rule that you can’t use the descriptor ‘Cornish’ for a pasty of this kind unless it’s made in Cornwall?’.Quick as a flash she came back. ‘That’s right, and those in our shop are made there; they’re shipped in and baked here’.Behind the lady you could see through into the large wall oven and the next batch of pasties being cooked. The second question was about design. ‘My mother used to fold her pastry and crimp them at the top, running the crimp side-to-side and up-and-over; your pasties are flat and crimped around a sort of half-moon shape, a bit like an apple turnover’.‘That’s a Devon pasty’, she said. Not only friendly then – clever too. On the wall there was an offer ‘Pasty & drink £5.00’; we took the bait and ordered a couple of pasties (Cornish – lamb/mint, and vegetarian) and drinks - café latte and orange juice. There’s not much difference in pricing with coffee & pastry – discount of the order 2%, but considerably more with fruit juice & pastry -20%. (Separate prices £2.80, £2.30 & £1.20. You work it out. Our issue, of course, we’d requested the meals.)Findings? Enjoyed the lamb/mint pasty, but the veggie one was disappointing – mixed/minced interior even and/or muddled tastes of contents and pastry; none of that contrasting taste/texture that you get from biting into chunks of potatoes & meat. The veggie pasty remained half-eaten and then got binned. It raises the question of whether you can make a real Cornish pasty that’s veggie. We enjoyed our break notwithstanding that veggie pasty. Coffee was good.(We'd have summarized the Proper Pasty Co shop as 'Good' but, unfortunately, TripAdvisor does not provide this category - and thus our 'Average given that it did not meet 'Very Good' status).Peter SteeleHartington12 September 2018

I try to get a pasty from here whenever I visit Bakewell and am always satisfied with any pasty I order. Recently however I’ve noticed the filling isn’t that great.. not sure what’s going on with that but not as much meat in the pasty’s? Giving them a 4 Star in hopes that the owner/manager sees this and fixes the issue as they’ve always sold great pasty’s and other customers are complaining about the same issue. Easy fix guys!

Really disappointed in the inconsistency of the fillings. I bought 2 lamb and mint pasties totalling almost £8. Hubby bit into his and remarked how well filled it was, with plenty of meat. I took a bite into mine expecting the same but was met with nothing but swede and potato. Thinking things would get better, I took another bite, and another, and another. Mine was all veg apart from perhaps a 1/4 teaspoon of meat. Perhaps the pasty filler was texting or otherwise distracted and gave one an overly big dollop of meat and sacrificed the next one's portion. Who knows? Except I won't be returning........this was supposed to be a treat not a guilt trip for my hubby who got the decent pasty!
