Prohibition in Cheshire West and Chester

Loved it! Great evening here, went for few cocktails....ended up staying much longer....as was such a great atmosphere, the friendliest host, who took our orders at the table....and great master cocktail makers!! Brill value for the amazing cocktails. Also loved the vintage music and live piano session. Really great speakeasy vibes..

First visit, and we almost missed it. This is a cosy small bar with a great atmosphere. Some live piano music capped off an enjoyable evening. The cocktail menu is excellent. Also, they'll have a good go at going off menu if you ask. I thought the price/size of the cocktails was good value. I recommend the Fuego (tequila with a hint of szechuan pepper).

My gauge of any cocktail bar is always their version of an old fashioned. Here they do a peanut butter old fashioned. Really good, soo good I had 3……service here was excellent, guys were all really friendly.

Great little 'find' in Chester. Cocktails are amazing! Really friendly and chatty staff. Well worth a visit.

Much improved on last couple of visits, and the gentleman with a beard serviced me on both visits shown excellent customer service.

Great cocktail place. Fun staff with good knowledge of drinks, tell them what you like, and they will advise what to choose. Would suit couples for a date or group of friends with a quaint taste.

If you only visit one bar in Chester then make it this one. Beautiful cocktails, amazing service. Lovely atmosphere and beautifully decorated. Highly recommend.

Alllowed acces..... After knocking, placed order. 25 mins later still waiting, barman asked us to confirm order, needless to say we left. The prices are extortionate to start with, the fact you have to wait 30 mins for a drink is an absolute farce. Will we go back. Not a chance. Farce. Don't bother

A cool place to visit 😎 when you find it. I don't know if they do food

I have been here quite a few times with a few different friends and often with my partner. It is easily my favourite cocktail bar in Chester and one of my favourites full-stop. The menu is varied and changed relatively often. I think the menu tends a bit sweet for me but that isn't unusual and the staff are happy to make all the classic cocktails in addition to the menu. The staff are pleasant and friendly and willing to discuss the specifics of the drinks on offer. The place itself is small but cosy. The music is not usually too loud and it is a nice place to take somebody for a chat. The décor is in-keeping with the theme. My only real issue, which accounts for the one star off the 'food' category (obviously here referring to drinks) is that I do wish the glasses for shorter drinks (such as martinis) were chilled a little more thoroughly before serving. Overall, a great bar though. One of the best in Chester.

Great little speakeasy. Well made cocktails

I'm not going to start this review by saying "people say" because I actually went there and ordered the best drinks I've ever had the black forrest thingy and the peanut butter bourbon thingy. The atmosphere was dark and jazzy it did have that Prohibition feel about it, see my youtube video for more like and subscribe.

I liked the concept of a secret bar, worth trying to find, it's small so best for couples or smaller groups.

I went with my partner for some drinks and it was beautiful in there, such a nice atmosphere! the drinks were so good, i loved every little detail about the place. Sarah served us and was amazing and lovely to speak to, she recommended the grasshopper cocktail and it was delicious :)

Latest review 2024: Recently service seems to have slightly improved and we had an enjoyable evening. We got our drinks in a reasonable time but had to remind the server that we were waiting on water and snacks. We had an enjoyable time. Another review 2024: Prohibition used to be one of our favourite venues, but lately it feels far more "mainstream" and less exclusive. This means that it accepts rowdy, loud parties that don't respect the "speak-easy" theme that's intended. We waited over 20mins to receive our drinks and snacks, and didn't receive (but were charged for) items on our bill. Previous review from 2020: One of our Chester favourites for a brilliant cocktail (or three or four or too many). Nice vibes, quite high prices but they reflect the quality and service.

Hands down the best hidden gem we’ve found. We visit Chester every year and will make sure we pop in for a cocktail on every visit from now on. Oliver was the perfect host, see you next year ❤️

1st time here on the 9th Nov and would be going back. Staff were 100%. Really enjoyed it.

Great drinks, lovely atmosphere. Can be hard to find if you don't know where to look. Would recommend going here if you're in Chester. Recommend getting the smith and western cocktail.

14/09/24: loved the experience. It was everything a Speakeasy should be. However, i felt very let down by some of the clientele that was permitted entrance. One chap insisted on asking the waiter if he was gay and then continued to quiz him, and then turned to my friend and I who and equally pursued the same line of questioning. It was only appropriate to shut him down. On another table, an extremely drunk lady could not contain her noise and loudness! Very disappointing! I can only add that the cocktails were very good though and the barman very knowledgeable!

Possibly could of walked past without knowing wer it was. Bt was a planned trip amougsted others. On arrival the door staff wee brilliant and welcoming. The whole experience from start to finish was awesome. The atmosphere was brilliant. The surroundings wer brilliant the staff wer amazing and knowledgeable about the the drinks the wer advising us to have. The service was top notch. We planned just to stop for 1 drink bt spent the whole night ther. I would give the experience 10/10. This place is a must when visiting Chester. I think we ate them out of cheese and pickles after washing them dwn with 5-6 cocktails each. Could not of asked for a better night.

Brilliant drinks bar, the black forest is perfect!

Ailis provided us with amazing service, serving us some stunning and beautiful drinks. Her attention to detail was amazing. Ailis served attention grabbing drinks with exceptional service. She offered to shine our shoe, which was very kind, and in our opinion she should be paid 3-5x her current rate. She had great banter and catered to us with the best of service. Cant recommend better for a chester evening

Chesters hidden bar. What a gorgeous place. The staff were so attentive and friendly this included the doorman who is the first person you see before going in the bar so friendly. The bar itself is beautiful and unique. Lovely relaxing atmosphere I honestly didn't want to leave. We had several cocktails from their great menu which were all delicious. Definitely worth a visit if in chester

Think it is the most cool and relaxed bar in Chester. It's a must especially for couples. Very unique menu and set in 1920s style. Highly recommend

Wow… a fantastic cocktail bar created with the history of alcohol prohibition. Hidden within offices on Watergate Street and when you walk inside you absorb the feeling of illegal alcohol drinkers back in this historical period. A large menu of a variety of different drinks… all with a story behind them. When you visit Chester, then you need pop in here.

We came here for drinks on a Monday evening but even then the tables were full. The atmosphere was brilliant and the cocktails were amazing.

Beautiful drinks and friendly staff always greet you at the door and seat you. For the best experience, try to go there at a quiet time for a nice atmosphere. Though they sometimes do have live music at busier times! Edit: Just wanted to add for caution. If you suffer from a PEANUT ALLERGY, be aware that the pretzels contain peanut butter. ⚠️

They've captured the atmosphere of a Speakeasy from the prohibition era. Absolutely fantastic; their old fashioned (and festive old fashioned) were awesome. Best I've had. They also have rarer drinks like a 15 year old Pappy van Winkle bourbon for example. Plenty of choice from Bourbons and Whiskeys to Gins and Vodkas. People saying it's tough to find... it's not sign posted, but, all you need to do is find Lono Cove and its signage, go up the steps to the door with 66 on it, prohibition is on your right.

A really great place for cocktails in Chester. I had the Nitti Gritti and would definitely recommend it especially if you like spicy drinks

An absolute hidden gem, came to find this wonderful place last night and were treated to the most fantastic service, from every member of staff but a special mention to Oliver who was the most incredibly attentive person whilst still running the fast paced bar smoothly. My partner and I were fortunate enough to be sat at the bar and had the opportunity to chat with staff and watch as these incredible cocktails were being made. We never had to wait for any drinks, all of which were impecably crafted. The atmosphere of the whole place was inviting yet made you feel like you were stepping through time. I couldn't pick my favourite cocktail as they were all sublime! A fantastic experience, fantastic service, fantastic cocktails! we will be back!

Love this little speakeasy. It's quite difficult to find unless you know where to look (hint, go up the white steps and the door is at the end). The decor is unique trying to keep in with the American prohibition era. The drinks are lovely and our bartender Oliver was very considerate and hospitable.

You didn’t hear it from me, but there’s a lovely hidden bar where those booze bans won’t get you down… Amazing high-concept cocktails, passionate staff, and a casually exclusive atmosphere make this an unmissable place on the Chester bar scene.

Fantastic atmosphere. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Atmosphere is great watching bartenders mix your cocktails.

Popped in for the last drinks of our night out, it was very nice there.

Ssssssshhhhh this place doesn't exist. Okay, it does and it's very nice. Sneak up those steps, give the door a magic knock and you should be greeted with a very warm welcome and taken to a table to be seated. The Cocktail menu is pretty comprehensive, so I'm sure you will find something nice to sip whilst you enjoy the ambience and your evening. I recommend the Old Fashioned personally, it's fantastic!

By far thee best cocktail bar in Chester. Been visiting every time we’re in the city , for several yrs now never disappoints. The surefire signs of a good cocktail bar is NO 2 for 1 rubbish and also there’s absolutely no worries about going of the grid , they’ll make you anything you desire… superb

Very authentic and a great menu.

Once we found it, we were trying to look through the door and it was opened just a crack we were welcomed by Mark and shown to a table. At first it's very dark until your eyes become accustomed. The atmosphere was great, 1920s speak easy vibe with great blues music mixed with jazz etc. Mark gave us a rundown of the cocktails and made recommendations. I had the Banana foster and a black forest. Both were delicious. Going back tonight for another drink! Highly recommended!

Great find when we found it, excellent staff.

Nicely tucked away but still gets all the attention. Went here and tried two cocktails each with my wife. We were lucky enough to have seats available right away, but expect a 15 to 20 mins wait if you arrive later without reservation. The choice of cocktails is ample, with something for everyone's taste. If you're out in Chester for the weekend, this should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

Muizk seviyesi yanındakine duyabilecek ama yan masa da konuşulanları duyamayacagin bir seviyede. Kokteyl fiyatları 9 pound dan başlıyor ama çok keyifli ve zengin bir kokteyl menüsü var. Great place! Went out of their way to accommodate us. Drinks are pricey at between £9 and £18 and it's a shame they don't do complimentary nibbles but overall a great fun place to spend an hour or two.

Amazing. I was absolutely in my element here, the atmosphere is fantastic. Apparently it used to be a bit more 'immersive', but with a bit of imagination you can easily take yourself back to the 20's. The service was fantastic and the cocktails were great - thanks very much to the chaps behind the bar and for our parting gift. Wishing you all the best - we'll definitely be back.

WOW what an incredible experience! Prohibition is secreted away at the top of a flight of stairs, the doors close behind you and you enter a darkened room where you are seated at a table and handed your cocktail menu, hidden in the centre of a hardback copy of Lady Chatterley's lover. The atmosphere is fantastic with blues music playing gently in the background and a cocktail mixer who is out of this world with precision and craftsmanship. Absolutely could not recommend Prohibition highly enough ⭐🍹🍸
