Prince's Resturant in Rhondda Cynon Taf

I now live in Port Talbot so was lovely to revisit as I try to do at every opportunity! Had chicken curry, rice and chips. Plenty of chicken, tasty with hot lovely chips, decaf cappuccino, tasty all under a tenner! Really helpful friendly waitress. The owner was buzzing around, checking everyone was happy, just like his dad and uncle used to before him! Was like stepping back in time.. perfect!!

The chips very rock hard and there was hardly any chicken or curry, inside the chicken curry pie. Very disappointing as the place has an excellent reputation

Sad to say but this once lovely cafe have gone down Orderd cappuccino couldn’t taste the coffee like hot water with sprinkles on top and a horrible cheese toasty which was so salty couldn’t eat it And yes the toilets at the bottom of the should never be there with people back and forth going to the toilet leaving the door open while people are eating not good

These sell the best and biggest eclairs I’ve ever had , beautiful, cant sit in to dine tho because it smells of pee, shame really

This place is the gem of the Valleys. The food is wonderful, the portion sizes are large and the service is quick and friendly. Above all else, they have retained that wonderful art -deco interior which helps create lovely ambience.

Visited for afternoon tea with family and friends for a baby shower, the food was amazing, so fresh and plenty of it, by far the best afternoon tea we’ve had. There were 39 of us and the service was fabulous, William and the lovely waitresses were very accommodating and could not do enough for us, a big thank you to you all for a lovely afternoon. Would highly recommend, we couldn’t fault it.

My wife and I travelled from Llanelli to Pontypridd yesterday 24/11/23 and we found this gem. As you enter the atmosphere was superb, the selection of cakes, pastries and savoury was outstanding. The staff were very helpful. We stayed for lunch and were seen to by the waitress Barbara. She was courteous, friendly, efficient and professional. Thank you Barbara. When we visit again we will definitely call with you. Highly recommended.

Great local venue. But needs to open 30 mins earlier for breakfast. Greggs and Costa are stealing’s a march on the Princess.

like stepping back to 1966.. the atmosphere and ambience are the *teamrooms of the past*, like you would see on downton abbey or upstairs & downstairs,,, there is a upstairs section, the staff are very friendly, a tea for two and various deals are great..., also the prices are very reasonable... the princes is very famous for bakery, i can see why its so popular with queues forming, probably the best welsh cakes in the town,, & the rhondda valley, tourists, vistors and daytrippers come to the restaurant just to see , the decor, furnishings,,,,thats why its normally very busy...

First visit and really impressed. Ambience feels like you're stepping back to an era of good food, fantastic service and real value for money. Had coke floats, delicious trifle, cannoli and fresh cream scone. Felt looked after and can't wait to come again - next time, afternoon tea!

Really gutted after our visit today. Haven't been in years but loved going as a child. Took my partner and really hyped up the cornbeef pie, was always a favourite with chips,peas, and gravy. We arrived and found a seat. A table turned about about 5 minutes after us. For the waitress to walk past up several times and take no notice of us. We might as well of not been sat there. She then took the other tables order still ignoring us. After taken there order she brought the drinks back and still ignored us and went to a table who were already eating to ask if they would like more drinks, by this point my partner was ready to leave, I then went and looked for a waitress to be told wil be woth you shortly. 10 mins later a waitress finally serves us. We waited longer for our drinks to come than it took for the food, when the food came the cornbeef pie was as good as I remembered(thankfully) chips weren't cooked and just tasted really bland. The cutlery was dirty we asked for serviettes which never came, didn't see a waitress for the remainder of our time there, so ate our food sharing cutlery. Really gutted as was overall a really poor experience and will not be going again.

Had lunch and we were very disappointed. Cheap burgers, chicken no imagination of something akin to a hunters chicken, roast beef served with froxzen carrots and dried out roast potatoe. Waitress very friendly and helpful, but the food is awful.

Very tasty rolls made here & freshly cooked pies, pasties etc. Nice cakes too. Love their chelsea buns. Average prices these days.

Really impressed with this lovely venue and an absolutely beautiful afternoon tea. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food just kept coming with a great savoury and sweet selection and everything was just so fresh . We all left with boxes to take home and the whole experience was faultless. We are coming back to sample the rest of the menu very soon . Thank you everyone at The Princes .

Visited for a celebratory retirement afternoon tea. Great selection of sandwiches, savouries and cakes. The two of us filled up on tasty food and were able to take plenty home for those who weren’t able to join us. Would definitely recommend for an indulgent treat.

We came from Cardiff today, lots of people have told us about the place, more than we expected. Super nice staff, delicious and yummy cakes, good coffee, 100 % we will be back. And not to forget not overpriced, so we bought some bread and cake to take back home, 👍🏽

Wanted some eats to take away earlier this week so popped. It wasn't busy but the lady serving clearly wasn't listening to me. I orderd 1 bacon slice & 2 soft white rolls with beef, salad & onions. What i received having then seen at home was 2 bacon slices, 2 soft white rolls with beef & salad but no onions! How had was that order to get right? Also is it my taste buds or are some of their items beginning to taste a bit bland? Change in cooking methods maybe? The bacon slices are sometimes too peppery & seem not so meaty any more. The custard slices are much less sweet than they used to be.

I was thrilled to see this still open in Pontypridd. I used to come here as a child with my nan almost 40 years ago. I was so happy to find it still here when I visited last weekend with my now 19 year old daughter and was able to tell her that my nan used to come here (sadly she is no longer with us). Great choice of cakes and plenty of them. Wish there were more places like this around :)

Been coming here since I was born, my parents and grandparents would always bring me here. I love the place and love how authentic it is. I would always have a lemonade float and some grub! Amazing food, amazing staff and just an all rounder. Deffo a place to visit if you haven’t yet!

I like it here generally, the food is very good. The baked goods are excellent. However the price of 25p for the tiniest little packet of jam is a tad extortionate on top of the purchase of toast, coffee etc. Not enough for 1 slice...

It is a gem this place! We have stopped here for coffee many, many times before and always enjoyed the service, the ambiance as well as the coffee! Today we decided to eat lunch - so glad we did. My steak & kidney pie and chips was great tasting and scrumptious. My wife chose plaice which she thought was superb. I went upstairs to view the dining facilities- totally Art Deco, beautiful, Noel Coward would have loved it! Downstairs too is really atmospheric. Service is excellent indeed. Nice enough place. Food is basic but good quality. Building interior is quite interesting, looking like 1940s / 50s art deco style. And despite ornate fittings and ceilings the place is very clean.On a weekday lunchtime it was packed too with people queuing for tables. A little quaint and old fashioned for my tastes but clearly very popular with the regular locals.

I arranged for Princes to prepare a buffet for me that catered for 20 people at my home. William was brilliant taking my order and helping to load up the car when our order was ready. The food was amazing and all my guests couldn’t compliment the buffet enough. Princes welsh cakes were a particular hit especially with the visitors from England! Thank you so much for your contribution to a lovely family gathering. Highest recommendation given.

I’ve visited Prince’s on many occasions and although it’s always a bit hectic due to being so busy it’s a lovely little place. The Art Deco interior is wonderful and upstairs is a lot quieter to sit in and eat (when it’s open upstairs)

The beef salad crusty rolls, not forgetting some onion, or indeed soft white rolls are totally delicious to take home for tea along with a huge range of cakey delights. Nice staff, very helpful. Comfortable to sit in too especially for toast & coffee or a bacon potato slice nicely warmed.

I went to the princes restaurant for the 1st time with my family, well let’s start with the amazing cakes in the window made my mouth water before I even went in, we were greeted and sat to a table, the service was excellent the staff cannot do enough for you, very friendly, so much to choose from on the menu, will definitely be going back again.

Called into “The Princess” on my lunch break, the cakes in the window lured me in. They looked absolutely amazing, therefore I purchased one of their “finest” custard slices. Well JESUS THEY ARE VILE, I WOULD RATHER EAT A DOG THAN THAT RUBBISH 🤮🤮

Excellent home made products but very crammed and old fashioned. Needs upgrading. The two owners hovered around my table the entire time me and my friends were eating due to being busy lunch time. I felt rushed and didn't enjoy my food

I popped into Princes for a takeaway roll but the staff were busy cleaning behind the counter so I waited patiently. The staff, two ladies, saw me standing there and carried on cleaning. Then two customers came in, man and lady, and stood behind me. The man asked if they were still making rolls and one of The staff said yes and what would he like. I walked out as I was disgusted with being ignored.

Had a Prince's Afternoon Tea as part of a Birthday Gift. Absolutely most enjoyable tea with various cut sandwiches, pastries, cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam. The service was first class, our table had been reserved for us upstairs in the restaurant and was immaculately laid out. The staff were most friendly and obliging. A Truly Scrumptious Afternoon Tea. Excellent value and much better than other more expensive Afternoon Teas we have had in more expensive venues. Essential that you give Prince's 48 hours notice to book your tea.

Paid them a visit twice late last year and their quality and service has not altered. Visited twice last week, always happy staff with a smile. The surroundings are as they were in 1948 when it opened, plenty of atmosphere and decor.I ordered cheese on toast it came with an extra round of toast. Until you have been and experienced their toast nobody believes me when I say the tost is to die for and is about 25+ mm thick!!!

Princes on Wednesdays and Saturdays an institution! A classic South Wales valleys "Brachi's" from Bardi! Its busy, cheerful and the decor is classic and unchanged - This place is a treat in itself!

Never disappoints . Good hearty food in the heart of this Welsh Valley town . Authentic and carachterful in Italian style decor. The service is always good and we have never waited long in such a busy bustling cafe. The cakes are mouth watering in the wonderful display in the window.

went for lunch today ,waited over half hour for cold food .cottage pie tasted like tinned stewed steak mushed up .horrid frozen fish and chips they were awful .curry came and was concealed and unappealing. best thing to order here is pasty and pies ,cakes and rolls .all these things are done fresh and the bacon and ham slice i had was lovely .if u want chips go across the road ,it's better tasting and better value.they have even stopped packing your cakes in boxes with their logo.its horrid polystyrene cartons .this used to be a place for a treat but not anymore

This cafe is one of the best in the Pontypridd area and its Art Deco interior is interesting. I personally love the frothy coffee here and its range of quality cakes, pastries, sandwiches and meals is brilliant. The one negative is a lack of provision for GF customers.

this Cafe is situated in the middle of Pontypridd and is a traditional Italian cafe with frothy coffee. An extensive menu of traditional cafe food, sandwiches, cakes etc. Very popular with local people, spotlessly clean and excellent friendly service from the staff.

I would really like to love this place, but I have had food from here numerous times over the last few months, and I find it expensive, some times the quality is not there, I have found some staff have issues saying thank you, I remember the days when this place couldnt do enough for you, these days it's like you are doing them a favour. Though it can be quite busy inside, the decor of the place seems to be of the old style and with pushchairs and prams in there the room can be tight. Mind you they do a vast array of foods and and fresh cream cakes.

They have amazing deserts in the window that you simply can't walk passed!

Always stop here if in Ponty. Love that’s is so old fashioned. Always giggle at young Mr Prince (don’t know his name sorry) Corned beef slice gravy and a crusty cob (got to be crusty).

Called into the bakery as the pies an cakes looked lovely. Had a custard slice and bacon an potato slices as well as a custard tart and a coffee shox bun. The bacon and potato slice was awful way to much pepper if you like pepper you were ok but i hate pepper it was far to seasoned with pepper an the custard slice pastry was soggy on the bottom was over priced for the quality of the food the only thing I enjoyed was the bread rolls

My wife and I decided to eat lunch here, my wife had the fish & chips with peas, I had a ham salad with chips, my wife’s fish was swimming in oil & the batter was uneddible,my ham salad was a joke, the tomato was rock hard, the cucumber was cut so small it was hard to see and the red onion was dry, this to me isn’t a salad, the croutons were so hard they would have been better used as a door stop, even the tea we had was awful.

Old fashioned Italuan style cafe/restaurant that has been in Pontypridd for eons! Lovely food and coffees and their cakes are delicious! Well woth popping in for a break.

We visited Prince's two weeks ago for afternoon tea for three. We booked a few days in advance & when we arrived we were seated upstairs. I have nothing but praise for the whole experience! The service, food & atmosphere were all excellent!

Great service and lovely food. This is a proper old fashioned tea shop come restaurant. They sell great bread, cakes and savouries and if you eat in you get waited on which is lovely.

Nothing for ceoliacs. . For a "normal digestive sytem" there is a full range from toast and tea to full cooked meals. In this day and age all eateries should be catering for allergy sufferers.

Visited today with my parents who are visiting from Scotland this week, the staff are very friendly. The food was lovely and fresh, considering they were quite busy the food came very quickly. Also I thought the price was very reasonable considering there was 3 people, would definitely recommend.

Called in on Friday 29/9/17 & asked for a freshly prepared sandwich on home meal bread, what I got was a ham salad sandwich on cheap brown bread, buttered with the cheapest margarine from a huge tub, The assistant diden't ask if I wanted salt or mayo because she was too busy with another member of staff on her mobile phone, I had no please or thank you & for this service cost £2.75. The manager needs to start living in a modern day age & teach his staff some polite maner's

An amazing window display drew us into this large restaurant, it was mid morning and the place was full and buzzing with sounds. The manager found us a table tucked/squeezed into a corner by the counter.

Prince's restaurant has been in Pontypridd what seems to be for ever and doesn't seem to have to have changed much either. The must have is the corned beef pie & chips (fries).

The window displays an array of sweet delights and tempting pastries and pies that lure you in to the sumptuous warm Atmosphere of this lovely family run cafe / restaurant. It's kept the original old fashioned charm with waitress service which is second to none. This busy place is worth a visit .

If you hant eaten here you havnt lived!!! Just simply the best honest food available in Pontypridd!!

What can I say other than VERY DISAPPOINTED !!!! I telephoned to book for this special treat earlier in the week as it was for a special occasion and asked if was possible to sit downstairs as my aunt wasn't able to climb the stairs, which I was told would not be a problem .On arrival l we were shown to a table in the shop area( apparently where I had requested to be !!!) where there were lots of people around paying for their orders and purchasing food( extremely busy and loud) , not wishing to spoil Aunts birthday treat we all sat down.There wasnt enough room for all of us to sit so a chair was added to the end of the table and another table pulled over to put our extra food onto , not ideal but we managed.We soon became MONKEYS IN A ZOO ,with people walking past us , watching us eat and looking at what we had ,not a pleasant experience at all and as it was so noisy we could not hear ourselves speak.As if this wasnt bad enough a man came and sat on the table that had been added and moved our plates etc and sat drinking his coffee.When I went to pay I if I could be shown where it was written that I had requested to sit in this area and this was nowhere to be found !!!! Felt like we were free advertising for them as teas are normally served upstairs !! Never visit again !!!!

We had a wonderful afternoon tea here yesterday. Amazing Art Deco original (not reproduction) cafe. Nothing was too much trouble with free flowing 'top ups'. We sat chatting for hours and not once did we feel they wanted us to move on. Food was amazing, much more than we expected for the price and great service. A real jewel in the heart of Ponty. Top marks Princes.

I treated my mother to afternoon tea for her birthday at Prince's on 9/6/17. I haven't set foot inside the place for years, so I wasn't sure if it would live up to my expectations. I needn't have worried because the whole experience was so pleasant and enjoyable from start to finish. Even my mother, who has such exacting standards, loved every minute. We were seated upstairs (the stairs are a bit tricky for the infirm or those with mobility problems to negotiate) but my mother took her time and it was well worth it. The cakes and pastries were just lovely, the sandwiches were fresh and tasty and our cappuccinos were creamy and frothy. Whilst the ground floor was chaotic and busy, by comparison the upstairs area was calm and comfortably elegant. I couldn't praise the waitresses highly enough. They were so pleasant, friendly and professional. They were so determined to ensure that everyone was happy and comfortable the entire time. We had so much delicious food that we couldn't possibly eat it all, so they supplied boxes for us to take the rest home with us. We're already planning a return visit.
