Prime 82 in Norwich

Six of us sought a better than average restaurant in southeast Connecticut near Lisbon, Baltic, and Hanover. Prime82 stood out as the only Google search result with table clothes. Prior reviews were all over the place--some great, some negative--and most old. We decided to give it a go, and generally were pleased. Some reviews say the place has an 80's vibe. Those were probably written by diners too young to remember the 70's. Yes, aesthetically the place is a "throwback," but nostalgia has a place in this world. We had an appetizer that promoted itself as "fondue." It was really very good. Entirely worthwhile, but no, it's NOT fondue--not even close. The other appetizers we tried were also tasty and reasonably priced to boot. I had a Delmonico steak, rare. I was raised on Texas cooking and know prime beef when I have it. The steak was properly cooked and adequate tasting, but hardly the best Delmonico I've ever had. I'm not a USDA inspector, so it's just my opinion but the steak seemed to me to be a very good choice, but not really prime. Frankly, I'd prefer a smaller cut of higher quality beef. The secret to a really good steak, is to buy a really good steak. Four ounces of real prime beef, makes a much better meal than 10 ounces of even the best choice. My wife had a burger that she described as terrible. That seems to validate the opinion of some earlier reviewers of this restaurant. It's quite possible that one's impression is highly influenced by what was ordered. This is not a place to count on a nice dessert. The choices are VERY limited. If you happen to like cheesecake, the bite of the Boston cheesecake I tried was very good. Bottom line, the total bill, appetizers, main courses, wine, and coffee was quite reasonable. Certainly, the food, service, and price tag of Prime82 is competitive with similar better than average eateries in Eastern Connecticut. We had a good time. It's worth a stop.

I cannot fathom how this establishment has a 3-1/2 star review. If zero were an option, I would have chosen it. I wouldn't recommend this establishment to anyone. It is over-priced for the food preparation and lack of any thought into the plating of the dishes. It was excessively noisy. We could barely carry on a conversation without having to constantly repeat ourselves. The first red flag were the rock-hard dinner rolls they served. They were inedible. Then, they inform us that at 6PM on a Saturday, they are out of veal. My wife went there anticipating ordering veal. How can you run out of an item so early on a Saturday? I thought the price of a NY Strip was too high so I went with the Prime Rib. They should be ashamed to call themselves Prime. It was the absolute worst example of prime rib I have ever eaten in six decades. It was far over-cooked, dry and chalky. I believe I know why. The prime rib was obviously not cooked that day. They took a piece of it out of the refrigerator and heated it up on a flat top rather than put it into a broiler. I can only assume they placed a weight on the piece of meat or pushed down on it with a spatula while it was reheating because they mashed all the juices out of it. Honestly, I think McDonald's could make a better prime rib. One side was burnt while the other side appeared to have never touched the flat top. The portion was small and looked lonely on the plate unadorned with any sort of embellishment. My wife resorted to ordering fish. The fish tasted good but the portions were relatively small compared to what we are accustomed at other establishments. The french fries that accompanied it were soggy and barely warm. Overall, it was a terrible experience. We rarely go out to restaurants as I am a disabled veteran. It's unfortunate that such a rare outing turned out to be so horrendous. If I were the owner of this establishment, I'd be ashamed to know what was served to us on Saturday. I would not recommend Prime 82.

Great food, drinks, and service! Good for dinner with friends or family. Depending on what you order it can be a little pricy but the quality is good. The only negative is that it has an old/dated vibe with “elevator music”.

Surprising treat. We were in the area, and someone recommended we stop for lunch. Was not sure what to expect, but we had a couple great sandwiches and salads.

We were staying at the Courtyard and were just happy to find a restaurant right next door. We thought we’d just have a couple of drinks and some nachos but when we saw the menu we realized we had scored big. Dinner and dessert was delicious. Cocktails were excellent. Service super friendly. Only reason not rated excellent was the our entrees came while we were still enjoying out appetizers.

Ahi tuna salad was fantastic. Prime salad was great as well. Both were good size portions for the price. I didn't care for the bread - it was hard. Restaurant was a little dark. But service was excellent and my long Island iced tea was great.

It's a hotel restaurant so don't expect much..but based on the positive reviews we stopped in on our drive back from Newport. Mistake. The bartender was very pleasant and helpful, but the fish had a very unpleasant, off taste immediately. We sent it back and the dish was taken off the bill, but unfortunately the next 24 hours were havoc on our GI systems..

We had dinner here last night. Decided on this restaurant based on one good recent review, and the fact that we could walk there. Great decision. Ate at the bar. Good selection of wines. Service was very fast and friendly. We had a chicken dish and a burger. Both were delicious. My rare burger was cooked perfectly.

Back again at P82 to celebrate a birthday. We enjoy eating in the bar. Started off with two glasses of wine and some dinner rolls. Again we ordered the Delmonico (med rare) with mash potatoes, asparagus and a Cesar salad. Wine and rolls came but unfortunately with no plates. However we managed and enjoyed both. The steak was cooked perfectly, mash potatoes excellent, unfortunately the asparagus portion was lacking (I'm guessing one piece cut into three pieces. To be fair all we're very good. I've given four stars only because I felt the service could have been better. No bread plates, I had to ask for an additional steak knife (there was two of us), salad was served with the meal (prefer it before so I can enjoy it w/o rushing so that the main entre doesn't get cold). Attention to little details makes for a more enjoyable dinning experience. With that said, it's worth a visit!

I had the sense that once was a busy restaurant, but now rather sad. I agree with the woman in August, who talked about questioning whether she wanted to go into someplace that smelled and looked like it hadn’t been taken care of. The bartender was friendly and greeted me in the afternoon, and was certainly pleasant. The food for bar food was fine. If you’re staying next-door at the courtyard it’s an OK alternative to getting back out on the street and trying to find something. Note to the owners you could invest some money and not look like it’s on its last legs or something left over from the 80s.

We almost left because the entry way was so dirty and smelled like a bathroom........the meal though was surprisingly good and so was the service. Even the people we were meeting thought the entry way was pretty bad. If we hadn't had plans with others we may not have stayed. Glad we did, they just need to clean up the outside a bit.

We were treated to dinner by friend to celebrate my birthday. We were a party of 4. Our food was very good, however, service was below par. Our waitress offered refills only once. The other times we had to ask. We had to ask for bread 3 times before we got it. The server bringing our food didn’t speak English so we didn’t know what he was bringing out. We had to take a guess. We waited over 5 minutes for stake knives after asking 3 times from 2 different servers. It was obvious we needed steak knives since we ordered steak and weren’t touching our food. Ours server was not around. There was another server that constantly sat at a table where she had friends dining. After we spoke to the manager about the poor service and her visiting with friends, she went back to visit with them and made fun of us. Manager said he would speak to his servers. We didn’t expect him to do it while we were still there. She confronted us with excuses why she served us the way she did. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! We’ll never return and will advise friends to go elsewhere.

I wasn’t impressed with the service at all. The food was just ok. I was planning on making it a weekly stop when in the area but now I’m looking for somewhere else to dine.

As a former plumber i am certain this place had its grease trap back up or possible its sewer system back up and didn't take care to replace the carpets. They probably just cleaned it up themselves, if that, instead of having it professional managed by a real service company. How they pass the health inspection is beyond me. This says a lot about how they value everything else including what you can't see or smell in other areas of the restaurant.

Accompanied 8 Last Minute A+ In town for a weekend birthday getaway and originally had a reservation at another restaurant - for 8 people, but had to leave to the a horrible smell. Started calling around and found Prime 82. Great staff. Wide selection on their menu. Good atmosphere.

I loved it! In town on business - came here two different nights. The first night I had the seafood risotto special. The seafod was delicious! The risotto (and sauce) was a bit heavy, but tasty. Second time had the baked cod - perfectly done. Firm but flaky with a good fresh taste. Had a salad both nights. The baked bread was warm and chewy with a nice crisp crust. Servers were friendly and helpful. It reminded me od a good old Wisconsin supper club!

Called and checked when they were serving food at 9pm tonight. The young lady said they serve their full menu until 10pm. I walked in at 9:35pm and sat at bar and was informed no food was available as the chef left. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you stand to stay open and available until the time you say you are open till? Thank you Prime 82... For Nothing!

Loved the appetizers and the surf and turf burger with lobster. Baked cod was great, prime rib a bit over cooked but a nice cut. Server was very attentive and we will go again!

The service and the meals were all perfect,,they have a good turkey dinner plus a perfect selection of other meals.

Been there several times within 15 days, the food is perfect and the hospitality and kindness of the workers are amazing!! Excellent Restaurant

Very good menu, something for everyone. Love to eat at the bar here, great service and great food. Marsala pork chop was perfect as was the baked stuffed shrimp.

The Marriott recommended this restaurant to us and it was excellent. Very nice atmosphere and the service was great. Food was delicious. Next time I am in the area I will go back for sure.

We went here for my father's 80th birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it. the waiter was extremely friendly and polite to my elderly parents and they accommodated our special food needs.

The food was good, portions satisfying, and prices okay. The venue itself is pretty shabby, and they play Sinatra style music. If you like that, you should be all set. The steak was good, but the chicken marsala was just okay.

Always enjoy the food here! Amazing seafood bruschetta. Entire family lived dinner, my 42 birthday and very happy to have celebrated it with you.

You will never be disappointed with a steak here. This is where we like to go for our special occassions.

Nice place for a drink and bar food. Friendly staff and good music on the overhead. It's a nice place to stop in for a bit and relax.

Enjoyed an early dinner on Saturday night. Not crowded, so enjoyed the quiet and relaxed atmosphere. RI calamari was crispy and delicious. Veal Parmigiana over pasta very good. Chicken Francaise was very good, though a tad salty! Missed out on the fresh baked bread. Oops!

A bit noisy, certainly an enthusiastic crowd on a Friday night, excellent food. Baked Seafood Pie in gorgonzola sauce is WONDERFUL. Sliced sirloin salad was done to perfection, beef hot when served. Varied menu, exciting starters, nice wine selection. For a busy place the servers were very attentive. Parking in the surrounding Marriott lot can require some patience but no big deal.

Located outside Courtyard Marriott. First time there, food was delicious! Had the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection! The bread was so warm and fresh, ate too much before dinner! Service and atmosphere was great! Will return again!

Prime 82 is in front of a no-tell motel right off the state highway. We walked directly into the bar which was very nice and the barstools were filled with a boisterous group of locals who all seemed to know one another. We continued on into the dining area which was a little crowded with tables and chairs that were not filled. After a bit a waitress came with a wide menu and some specials. The listed prices were a little high. The fish was tender and sweet with a very nice reduction sauce. The salad was fresh and the lemon requested as dressing was also fresh. The signature steak was tender and prepared as requested. The after dinner coffee was nice. I would have preferred a slightly stronger brew. The atmosphere in the dining area was quiet and refined compared to the rowdier bar.

Food was amazing..didn't fancy it at first when told you cook your own steaks as I like to be waited on....it was faultless...staff were very friendly and fast....the sea food platter starter for two people was enough for four...bloody lovely......

Booked table on Sat 21st Nov at 6pm with friends. Excellent food, first class service, great atmosphere, would highly recommend this venue and will be returning soon.

Visited last night for my birthday and had a fantastic time.We were booked in for 6pm, arrived early so had a drink downstairs in the bar first.The evening started of well when we ordered our drinks and the barman handing mine over called me miss ( Im 45) loved it.The meal we had was fabulous, I ordered the soup which was delicious and hubby ordered the Camembert which he said was delicious.The mains were Excellant, My salmon was perfect and hubby highly rated his fillet plus he was pleased to get real chips not ones cooked from frozen like some establishments.We ordered desserts and they arrived quickly and they were lovely.I had the cheesecake which came with a lit candle and hubby the chocolate tart-superb.Very highly recommended, look forward to returning

Went for Daughters birthday. Loved all of it. So unique. I love the Hot Stones which you cook your own Steak to how you like it. Fabulous meat platter starter. Awesome meal.

Visited on a Saturday night with my partner and another couple. The restaurant is very small above the Edith Cavell pub so you'll definitely need to pre-book a table. Very relaxed and intimate atmosphere, perfect for couples or small groups. The menu doesn't have the widest choice, however if you like steak you won't even need to look at it, other than for choosing what cut of meat and butter/sauce you'd like. The steak is then brought out to you on a hot rock and cooks in front of you, so you can choose yourself exactly how much or how little you want your steak cooked. Definitely the best in town! I highly recommend the ribeye with stilton sauce. The only negative is there wasn't more of it!! It's not overly expensive either, I've definitely paid more for worse elsewhere!! Would visit again in a heartbeat.

My husband and I love this place! Lovely intimate atmosphere, service and the best steak we have found in Norwich. Can't wait to go back!

The quality of the meat was excellent and the whole cook it yourself thing was kind of quirky but certainly meant that my steak was cooked perfectly for me. The sides were great too which lets down some other steak restaurants. Wine selections was good too and so was the service. Also had a carpaccio to start which was good and a cheeseboard with great cheese and a generous amount too.

A pesar de que comer un raro bistec cada pieza es cálida con el plato caliente.filetes Enormes, gran calidad y relación calidad-precio. El entrante y plato podría ser una comida en su propia! Sin duda es un lugar todos los amantes del filete tiene que visitar! Vale la pena 6 estrellas si pudiera!
