Gorgeous restaurant, attentive staff but sadly £113 for Chateaubriand, two sides and two drinks is overpriced for the complete lack of flavour. Bernaise was very runny and lacked any flavour. The steak was the main disappointment; no butter or oil to cook with so it stuck to the lava slab. It REALLY lacked any beefy flavour. The 'wild' mushrooms were button mushrooms, not worth £7.50. Drinks were great as was the atmosphere. A real shame.

Wow! How have I taken so long to come here?! Great atmosphere, amazing staff and the food is divine! As soon as we got there we were sat by a very loud, drunk table and I spoke to the host and he moved us no questions asked, we had the best waitress and enjoyed the food so much! The steaks and chips were good, the service friendly enough. BUT the ambiance was obviously conceived by funky clubbers: oppressively dungeon-dark and, taken together with the Godawful infantile music, I half expected a hoodie to shuffle up and ask if I was a user. The creme brulee was a total fail: heavy and greasy to the point of inedible. The staff did not ask why I left it. I guess they already knew. We skipped coffee and fought our way back to the open air. I'm sorry to say we have no plans to return.

Wanted to take my girlfriend out who loves fancy steak restaurants but being Vegan it's tricky as most places don't accommodate. Called Prime and they managed to make me my own starter and main so I could enjoy the experience with my partner. The main was a little underwhelming but I booked last minute so I completely understand that. They said with enough notice the chefs would prepare a much more exclusive meal for me in the future. Staff are all great and really friendly yet professional. Will definitely go back again (coming from a vegan reviewing a steak restaurant)

Service was good, but I suggest not visit over heatwaves as the indoor temperature is much worse than the 30c outdoors. I never wanted to finish my food and get out as badly in a restaurant of this price range. I ended up refusing to acknowledge that it was a special occasion just to pay the bill and leave. The waffle(waffle and chicken) was quite soggy, though flavouring was 'ok', and the steak was a downgrade without the butter The decor isn't bad, but with the temperature it's just a horrible experience.

Been here for our first anniversary, staff were lovely, accommodating and were around whenever we needed them. The food was exquisite and the atmosphere was incredible. All I can say to some this up is to please go, it's an amazing experience and was well worth the money. Freya and Cat were our servers and delivered such a lovely experience that we'll never forget. Thank you so much to those two staff, they deserve to be acknowledged.

I was planning to go with my friend and her daughter on a Thursday, however I’ve received an email today asking if I was aware “ that from the 1st of January 2024, due to recent health and safety concerns within the venue relating to our use of hot rocks we are unable to seat any children under the age of 10”. Since when this is my responsibility to be aware of such things? YOU should post it on your website. I couldn’t find this information anywhere, not even on the booking page. I appreciate that you have to follow H&S guidelines but to let me know two days before is a poor CS.

Been here a few times now and this was the first visit I’ve left disappointed. The young girl who was serving we couldn’t fault- excellent customer service. However the food this time was below par- the steak no longer comes with garlic butter which meant it became overly dry when cooking, and the macaroni cheese was overly oily and generally not good. I don’t know if it was just an ‘off’ day or if they have changed chefs… but in my mind this is no longer the place to go for steak in Norwich. The only reason it didn’t get a one star was again the excellent service from the waiter and the good atmosphere provided from the general theme of the restaurant.

This is my second time dining here, as I came to help my friend celebrate his birthday. Despite wearing the same casual outfit as my first visit, we were greeted very coldly by a man who informed us that we probably couldn’t dine there due to their "dress code" before walking away to who knows where. This immediately put me and my friend in an awkward position as we were unaware that casual wear was not allowed. Shortly after, another server came and asked for our reservation again, then led us to our table without even mentioning that our attire was "inappropriate," which left me feeling very conflicted. As I passed through the restaurant, I noticed many customers wearing similar clothes to ours, making me question why the first server deemed our attire "unsuitable." Nevertheless, our server was very nice and displayed excellent customer service throughout the dinner. I ordered the sirloin this time instead of the rib eye, and I would personally recommend sticking with the rib eye if you prefer something juicier, which is what I wanted. The food was undoubtedly good, from the appetiser to the sides. The ambience and decor are really modern and nice; I liked it a lot. I think my server's customer-centric approach bumped the rating from a 3 to a 4, as he compensated for the bad experience we had upon arrival.

I was never a fan of the original Prime tbh. Too small and smelly but since the move to the new property this is definitely one of our family’s favourites. The staff are always very friendly, cheerful and helpful. I admit I have the same fillet steak every time but that’s simply because I never have a bad one. Little bit pricey maybe but on the scale of you get what you pay for the steak is worth it. Just keep the extract fans on and clean and we will return regularly.

Exceptional greeting at the front desk on arrival. Ambience in restaurant was lovely, food was delicious and served promptly and politely. Drinks were also timed perfectly and there was no awkward wait for the bill. A very enjoyable evening, not cheap but definitely worth the money.

I went with a large group of friends for dinner. The restaurant has a very seductive and stunning decor. Our waiter for the evening Jack was very friendly, attentive and patient, his service throughout the night was exceptional. There wasn't a sweet rosé wine on the menu, which is a shame, so we went for the least dry. The cocktails however, are lovely. I had the pork starter which was beautiful, melt in the mouth perfection. It was light and the croquette was filled with tender pork. I had the sirloin for my main course. The sirloin was a generous size and it was fun to further cook and season the beef, I also had peppercorn sauce which tasted great. The sirloin was delicious! Sadly, the macaroni cheese side dish tasted just like pasta out of a pan of plain boiling water. I couldn't taste any cheese sauce at all, which was a disappointment. I had the cheese platter for dessert, I was a little disheartened at the size of the cheeses offered and the chutney was flavourless. It is a very expensive treat, so a few tweaks to the wine selection, desserts and focus on the side dishes would make it perfect. An unforgettable dining experience overall, a very special contemporary restaurant, with outstanding service from Jack. Five stars 🌟

Been here twice now for dinner and both times were absolutely fabulous. Once came with a group of 8 and it was a pleasant experience for everyone. Great service, delicious food, tasty drinks, and amazing ambiance! Celebrated my birthday here and it was a memorable. Cooking the steak on the lava rock is an awesome experience and I definitely recommend it, although you can have kitchen cook it for you if you’d prefer. My only complaints are that they used fresh cherries on the Cherry Bomb cocktail the first time I came(pictured), and when I went more recently they used a candy cherry(not pictured). It made the glass sticky and wasn’t too appetizing. The cocktail was still delicious! And the half a lobster was a bit over done.

We have been before but that was when it was located in the Edith Cavell. So excited to go again at its new location (been there a while now) & take friends who have never been. It did disappoint. Booking is easy, go online select a date and time and size of your party. At this point you can put any special requests in. I love mac n cheese but they make theirs with blue cheese which I'm not a fan of so I request they make me one without the blue cheese. On the day of our reservation we received an email to check we were still going which I just needed to confirm. On arriving at the restaurant we received a lovely greeting, asked if we'd like them to take our coats and they popped them in a cloakroom duly giving us a ticket to retrieve them. We were then shown to our table. The decor is beautiful, so relaxing and spacious, they haven't tried to cram in as many tables as possible. We were promptly seen to at our table and drinks orders taken and the waitress confirmed my mac and cheese order without prompting. So this is my only negative comment, they had wine from the local Flint Vineyard for £52 a bottle, I sell that for £19.50. I appreciate it's always more in restaurants but that is some mark up! Knowing how full we'd get, we skipped a starter. Our guests had the chateaubriand and we had a ribeye and shared sides of chips, onion rings and of course the mac and cheese. The meal was divine, beautiful piece of steak, fluffiest/best chips I've had in a long time, massive onion rings and my mac and cheese did not disappoint. I had the jaffa cake for dessert and the others had the Cheesecake. The service throughout the meal was great, good balance of attentive without being overbearing and always with a smile. Don't forget to check out the ceiling in the toilets, no it's not broccoli it's covered in moss!

I've always wanted to go here (even when it was above the Edith Cavell) but hadn't been until last night. I have to say I was not disappointed l, in fact if anything it surpassed my expectations. The restaurant is relatively new so decor etc is still in fantastic condition. The food was beautiful. The fillet steak was so tender and cooking it on the super hot skillet was an enjoyable experience. The service from all members of the team was equally good. We had full three courses, lots of drinks (cocktails, wines, beers etc) and the bill was circa £100 per head (including service charge). That is high, but like i say, we had a lot of drinks. Definitely be going back. We'll done Prime for an all round great experience

Had a very nice sunday meal there. Shared a sirloin roast platter, which was very well cooked. Vegetables, in particular were nicely cooked. Other member of party had beef Wellington and judging by the speed it was demolished it was as equally good. Rounded out by some excellent deserts. Service was also very good. Travelling from London to Norwich for two nights on business I thought I would dine out for the evening. I searched online, local fine dining restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel I was staying at and Prime steak house was available. All other restaurants were fully booked (should of realised then). On arrival the restaurant was not very busy and I was shown to my table. I ordered a drink and a few moments later a waiter took my order. I started with the oysters and to follow the rack of lamb. The oysters were mediocre and I'm afraid to say that the rack of lamb at £65 without no sides or sauce (just slices of meat that were also cold) was very disappointing to say the least. I ordered some side chips which was the only satisfying part of the meal. I made my concerns aware to the waiter who just seemed to look into oblivion. Fine dining, I think not, one could get better quality from a high street fast food restaurant and that's saying something

Booked in for an anniversary dinner, the staff very kindly let me turn up early to decorate the table with some flowers. They also decorated our dessert with a happy anniversary message which was lovely. Food was everything it’s hyped up to be. There were a few things that really soured the experience however. There’s a ticketing system for your jackets/bags etc. so you can leave them in a closet while you’re eating. It was a very rainy day and all of the umbrellas had been put on the floor without tickets, which inevitably led to our expensive umbrella being taken by someone else. The staff weren’t too sure about what to do, I could see them bickering amongst themselves when we bought it to their attention. They took some contact information and promised to look into it and give us a call. We had gotten dressed up for the night and it was pouring down with rain and it was only after we’d pointed that out that they gave us a pink, broken child’s umbrella that had been sitting there for a while. It didn’t lock open, and only after watching me struggle with it for a minute outside did someone come and offer to give me some money for a new one, which is a fair offer but didn’t really do anything to help the issue of getting home dry. On reflection, I think the most appropriate thing for the staff to have done would be to offer to call us a taxi. It just seemed like as soon as there was a problem the otherwise excellent service just broke down. The whole exchange took maybe 5 minutes, all we really wanted was to figure out how we were going to get home dry after the umbrella had been lost but we were being pushed out the door. There was also a really awful smell in the lobby. It smelled like an open sewer drain so perhaps that couldn’t be helped. In the end, a very nice meal ended with us soaked through in our nice clothes, with our umbrella missing. This all to say that the food, atmosphere etc. is just as nice as advertised (the cocktails were genuinely mind blowing!), but the negative aspect of my visit is something a prospective visitor would want to know about.

Was always a fan of Prime before and had dined at the previous sight on multiple occasions and the food has always been amazing. Went there last night and can honestly say it's one of the worst steaks I've ever had. I don't tend to use the lava stone to finish my steak, I ask for the chef to cook it - this has never been an issue before - however last night, it was massively overdone (asked for rare, came out medium). The steak itself was bland and tasteless. Very disappointed by the quality of the food and will not be returning. Service was excellent and we had a lovely waitress and the new restaurant is finished to a lovely standard, just a massive shame about the food.

Never had a bad meal here. The chateubreand is always great and the atmosphere and ambience always feels friendly. The staff are also extremely attentive.

Wandering into this dark cavern was slightly daunting but the waiter showed us to our table and treated us like royalty the whole meal. I had the prime burger which was cooked perfect, and the slaw had a zingy tang. The chunky chips were large, fluffy inside and deliciously crunchy. For dessert I had the creme brulee which was the best I'd ever had. As it was my mum's birthday they'd written happy birthday on her chocolate dessert which she also said was her favourite ever. Will definitely be going again soon, I think everyone should go at least once to experience this great restaurant.

Update review: I'm really not impress by the new menu. The menu is narrower now, they get rid of my favourite scallop and steak tatare, lobster rolls and they are offering chicken drumstick?? Tuna tatare?? Not very impress. For steak, the price is higher, I understand that as everything is more expensive now. They stop serving the tomahawk but they serve Potter house now. It's a good price £8 per 100g but the steak quality is bad. The meat is bland and the sauce they provide is dry and weird, powdered dry chimichurri? It suppose to be a paste! The other sauce, peppercorn doesn't taste like peppercorn, taste like sugar. Dissapointment. 4 of us, ordered 3 Potter house steak, £112 each steak but they didn't provide the butter for the hot stone. We ask for butter to avoid the meat sticking to the lava rock but the waiter knowledge us that we should melt down the fat from the steak first then start cooking it. We tried, it doesn't work and we show to the waiter it stick to the rock. Then, she offer us butter and £2 for 20g of butter. All the good thing form old menu are gone! We end up spending £450 for 4 pp without any alcoholic beverages. This is my 8th visit to prime, and this is the last time unless the menu is changed. Thank you prime, great job. . I visited Prime on 14th November 2021. It was amazing especially their service. The restaurant was relatively busy, but it was well managed by one waiter professionally. 9 tables with 1 waiter, well done! For the quality of the food, it was good especially their Chateaubriand. I'm really happy for the price I'm paying. We had Steak Tartare and Seared Scallops. The scallops were fresh, and it goes really well with their signature sauce and other dressing. For the Steak Tartare, good portion was served with well blend of the herb and spice. For the starter, I will give a 9/10 rating. For our main, we had Chateaubriand, Tomahawk and Ribeye. - Chateaubriand 10/10, it was tender, perfectly aged beef. Definitely worth trying! - Tomahawk 8/10, sadly it wasn't the real tomahawk as the bone served alongside of the steak is just for decoration. However, the meat was juicy and good amount of fat. - Ribeye 4/10, you can clearly tell the meat wasn't the freshest and it was a really lean ribeye. For dessert, everything was up to standard. Overall dining experience was great. We enjoy our food and the whole aura of the restaurant was lovely. After 2 months, we decided to revisit Prime. First thing I realised the changes of the menu are the ingredients! The ingredient of the food was substituted with a cheaper ingredient, but the price didn't change! For example, the previous scallop comes with green sea lettuce. But this time, it was replaced with Chorizo. The taste of the food was really blend because in my humble opinion, the Chorizo doesn't go well with it! Today was a busy day as well, 7 table was filled. However, the waiter seems having a hard time to keep up with the 7 table. She wasn't patient, just kept on rushing us. When we told her that the Scallop was served differently compare to last time, she replied rudely :"Everything was served according to the menu" and then she turns around and left. For the Steak Tartare, their signature green sauce was missing. The Steak Tarture was really bland, therefore we ask for tabasco. The waiter replied they don't have. But after asking her again, she finally bring us a bottle of nearly emptied tabasco......I'm not sure whether the restaurant is trying to cut the cost of the food or the chef forget it. Very disappointed. For the main, the quality of the Chateaubriand was really bad. It wasn't as tender as the previous Chateaubriand we have, and I didn't taste good. Prime definitely need to standardise their customer service and the quality of the food. I really don't mind if the price increase but I'm looking for at least the same quality we have been served last time. Overall dining experience today was upset and disappointing. I don't think I will return anytime soon.

Went for a late lunch on a Monday. Lots of places closed but not prime. Really well cooked food, lovely staff and I loved the dark decor too. Starter good, main good and desert good too. Next time will try cooking my own steak on the lava rocks! My friend had a lovely piece of salmon that was perfectly cooked too so not just a steak place. All in all very impressed. Thank you xx❤

First time at Prime, greeted with friendly smiles from the staff, had the 3 course lunch at £27, the fillet of steak is £8 supplement but well worth it, staff are very attentive, have to say the food we had was excellent and enjoyed by all,can only highly recommend. The only downside for me, the restaurant was a little to dark for me.

First time going to their new restaurant since they moved from The Edith Cavell. The new restaurant is so nice with a very relaxed intimate ambience. The food was incredible and the staff were very attentative. You get what you pay for here, mors expensive than other steaks you can buy in Norwich but the quality of the produce, the restaurant and the staff are all better than what you'll get in the rest of Norwich so I think it's very reasonable. Highly recommend eating here, I will be back soon...

Incredible place to eat, certainly is a treat as a main and one cocktail each cost me and my partner over £100 but was worth every penny. The food is amazing, you get to finish your steak of choice on the hot volcanic plates right at your table. Staff are very attentive and polite and the atmosphere is cosy.

We have been loyal customers of Prime for years. We have dined in their restaurant above the Edith Cavel on countless occasions and have had several vouchers from family over the years. Tonight we went to dine for my partners birthday and had gift voucher (4 months expired) that was purchased by his grandparents (OAP's) back in December 2021. We had to cancel a previous booking (where we were due to use the voucher) due to my partner having covid. We are also parents of twins, so find it difficult to arrange childcare to get out now a days. We arrived with our vouchers this evening, only to be informed that they would not be honoured in any way, not even to half of the value. As a party of 4 that rarely get to go out we would have easily spent £300 in prime this evening, but instead of honouring our £50 voucher they let us walk and lost our custom, not only for tonight, but for the future also. We had been previously informed by a former employee that our gift voucher would be honoured. We not only loved this restaurant on a personal level, we also brought alot of business clients here. Prime have now lost this clientèle as well. Absolutely diabolical treatment of loyal, longstanding customers. I have to say, we had heard that this establishment had very much gone array since its move from the Edith Cavel, but we were willing to give it the benefit of the doubt as we loved the food and staff so much. Safe to say what we heard was true and we aren't sad to now not be returning and nor will our wallets be. Let this be a lesson to anyone thinking of buying a voucher for a loved one for this restaurant. Whilst we understand that dates often must be adhered to, surely there should be some surcumstancial leeway, especially to loyal customers? Clearly not. That's £50 of my partners grandparents money paid into their business with no goods ever being recieved in return. Absolutely disgusting, disgraceful and diabolical business ethics. The management were laughable. I find incredibly convenient how there is also no ability to leave any form of feedback on any of their social media platforms. Well done Prime for not only losing 4 loyal customers, but the client based business they brought to your restaurant also.

We hadn't been to Norwich for many years so didn't know the restaurant scene at all. We cancelled our first choice of Indian after finding out that it was vegetarian only (their web site had simply said they were vegetarian-friendly). And we didn't book our second choice after finding out that it didn't serve alcohol (we weren't in the mood to bring our own as our experience is that we either end up bringing too much or too little). So we weren't sure what to expect from this our third choice. In fact it was a very enjoyable and very tasty meal with excellent service, even if the menu seemed fairly standard.

I came here with three friends last month whilst we were staying in Norwich. We were more than impressed with the service and food; it was amazing!!!! Our servers were kind and helpful, the food was brought out incredibly fast and the ambience of the restaurant was lovely. We got the rosé Toppoki and the usual Toppoki, the Jinju tapas and the Korean Fried Chicken. Everything was so insanely good, and portion sizes were huge! We could not stop talking about it on our walk back to where we were staying. Thank you for a lovely meal on the last day of our trip! Highly recommend!
