I have lived and worked in Streatham for over 5 years. I walk past this bar every day and have been there a few times. I always wanted to celebrate my birthday there. This year I decided to do it and came in to ask how I would do it and details. I was advised that I should send an email. I sent an email requesting a date and time for my event but never received a response. I decided to go there and check if they received it, to my surprise they said no but there was no problem they would book the table in person. The manager responsible on the day confirmed the reservation and that everything was ok for the requested day and time. I was calm and happy to be able to invite my family and friends. People coming from Brazil, Spain and France confirmed their presence. On Wednesday, May 17th, I decided to stop by to ask how I would do with the cake and other details. The manager of the moment opened her laptop to check and with clear words said: I'm sorry but there is no reservation in your name for May 20th. I panicked and insisted that she check it again because it was not possible, again she said in clear words that there was nothing in my name. Obviously I got stressed, obviously I got out of my mind, there were only two days left for my event and everyone was already invited to come to this address. In the end she assured me that she couldn't do anything for me and not even an apology was dry and short "There's nothing I can do for you". Unfortunately didn't get the name of the person who made the reservation for me but I can recognize him but I don't think that will change my utter disappointment and frustration with this establishment. Well, I only had one way out. I called my sister (who is on vacation here to celebrate my birthday) to go with me in search of another place. I received several NO and that it was too late and with many people. Thank God I found a pizzeria and they were super friendly and polite. They reserved a table for 30 people. I don't even want an apology from them, I just hope and wish that no one goes through what I went and think twice before thinking to organize an event with them. Pratts And Payne

It looks really cool from the outside, Art Deco, old antic pubs usually are (now portabello judging by beer offering and signage), Inside the decor lets it down which was a shame, nothing special and quite tired. Lack of lighting. However…..I was there for the rugby, really great atmosphere and it was busy. We had food which was a decent choice and nice enough. Prices I found reasonable on food and drink. The service though was fantastic and made it really for me. Think some investment is needed. I’d return at some point again.

First visit yesterday and will not be the last. First thing that I realised was how friendly and approachable staff and management were. Nothing was too much trouble. Ordered starters and was not disapointed. The salmon was delicious and generous in portion size. My son ordered the Sausage roll .Tried some .....lovely. Now for the main....... the Roast Turkey was moist, lovely flavour and once again plenty of it. what a selection of vegatables so nice and a pleasure to eat. And not forgetting a scrummy Yorkshire pudding , good gravy and the trimmings. My son had the Roast Pork that was good as well. We both left very happy and full tummys. Thank you !!!!!

We chose to go to Pratt’s & Payne today as they have a vegan option for roasts and desserts. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a pub/restaurant in a long time/ever. The soft drinks on tap were watery. They didn’t have a kids menu. They ran out of fish. The roast dinner was the most bland meal I have ever eaten. The beef looked like pork. They ran out of desserts. The pub is also in dire need of a refurbishment!! Staff friendly enough but we definitely won’t be returning.

Obviously lockdown 3.0 has hit us all super hard but the one thing I’ve missed the most is a decent roast in my local on a Sunday. Thankfully P&P have saved the day and come through with the best takeaway roast I could have asked for. I went for the pork which melted in my mouth, the potatoes were perfectly crispy and fluffy and the yorkies were out of this world. Exactly how I remember Sunday’s tasting BC (before corona) and has set me up for a new week. It’s also really reasonably priced AND I got to enjoy it from the comfort of my own sofa.

Last orders were called and we were told to leave literally immediately, even though the bar will happily let you pay for drinks a minute or two earlier. Staff were shouting at us to leave and then one of the door staff then started banging their knuckles on our table to get us to hurry up. Went to use the toilet before leaving and the same door staff told me this was pissing them off and they wanted us straight out. We had been no trouble and were having a quiet pint and would have left within five minutes of them calling last orders so why do they have to be so hostile to their customers? Totally unnecessary.

This place was recommended by a friend. Was greeted with a nice warm smile from the chap behind the bar. We ordered food. Sausage and mash and a burger and had some halloumi fries to start. The food was fast and efficient and delicious. My husband finished before me and an irish watress went to pick up his plate but I said I wasn't quite finished yet. She said it was ok and I could still keep going to which I replied "You shouldn't clear the table until everyone has finished". She said ok and muttered "For f***s sake as she walked off. How lucky are we Streatham inhabitants to have so many great pubs bars and restaurants to choose from - the area in SW16 just gets better and has become a destination for other surrounding areas to. What's not to like about Pratt & Payne, a fantastic selection of beers, good food, shabby chic decor. I recommend the booths right at the front by the windows. At the back is the more formal dining area but it's casual enough for jeans when you are eating. The good is typical quality pub grub - delicious fish and chips or charcuterie platters to share are some examples of an regularly changed menu. Try it out you may want to stay in Streatham a little longer.

There are two screens if you are interested in watching the football/rugby. If there is any sport on you can usually ask them to put it on, which is great! The menu has changed since my last visit, not as good as before. More gastro-pub than traditional pub food, they do a Sunday roast which is quite nice. Would say the food is on the expensive side for what it is. Nice court yard out the back if the sun is shining. Always a really good atmosphere in this pub. Really cool furniture and plenty of seating/tables, so there's not much issue with finding somewhere to sit. The garden is decent - especially considering where it is located, and has plenty of flowers in the summer, however you are right next to the fire escape from the upper floors so not ideal. Plenty of different types of ales, craft beer, and scotch meaning that this is a great place to come and drink! The food is excellent and reasonably priced, with a large portion size to make sure you're satisfied.Great pub for drinks with friends, but probably not the most suited to family visits...I'd definitely recommend it.

Been here a few times now but always leave disappointed. It's quite a nice venue, with its quirky decor and big bar, in the heart of Streatham high street. But everything is expensive, which is ridiculous considering you're not in central London here. It makes you feel a bit reluctant to stay too long and enjoy yourself. The staff always take forever to pour drinks, bring food and often mess up orders. The food options are really limited (good luck getting anything veggie - they clearly don't know it's 2016!!). It's sad when you could get a better burger (meat or veggie) in the grubby, rundown Wetherspoons next door. And you'd pay half the price. If you're looking for a good pub in Streatham with better food and a nicer atmosphere, try the White Lion, Bank, or The Bull instead. All way better.

We can't really comment on the pub as we only ever went there for meals, but we can say we were never disappointed with our dinners. We must have tried out pretty much the whole menu over the course of our visits and the food was always absolutely top drawer. There were many delicious dishes but our favourite was the rhubarb crumble for dessert. Yum, yum.We were served by various staff and they were always attentive, helpful and informative. It was tiny, freezing (cheap carrots and cabbage veg not cooked at all, potatoes had been microwaved) and a rip off. We wanted to send it back and get our money back but had a baby (increasingly upset because of the very long wait) we didn't want to drag to somewhere else to eat (we were ravenous by this point) so just ate it and left. ...Well, my sisters birthday anyways. My sister visited from the north today for her birthday and I wanted to show her some of the delights of SW so decided after reading some reviews this would be our place of choice. It was a mistake. The bar staff are totally incompetent, sorry, but they are. We ordered and payed separately (3 people) but payed at the same time and asked for them all to be brought together. This message was obviously not passed on to the kitchen, which became apparent when we got our first meal, some 25 minutes before the final meal came. Obviously by this time mine was freezing and my sisters was freezing. Luckily (or something) our friends was cold as well so at least we were all equal on this front. They both ordered chicken supreme with asparagus, truffle potato salad, pea puree and chive butter. Step one of making a puree would be, in my humble opinion would definitely be, actually making it a puree. Not taking mushy peas and bashing them a bit more. The truffle potatoes where made with cheap truffle oil, it was very obvious. The chive butter on one dish had run away, but the chicken was okay. And just okay. If the dish hadn't been described so eloquently then we wouldn't have been so disappointed because it wasnt horrendous, just distinctly average. I ordered Hickory BBQ ribs with spring onion slaw, which hadn't seen even a pinch of seasoning and fries. The ribs came dry (WHAT?!?!) and with a really watery tasting and looking 'BBQ' sauce on the side. I'm sure someone thought it looked cute during recipe testing but no. The fries were fried. The manager, after being made aware of our very disapointing evening, (via me, a little aggressively I admit, sorry bout it) advised he 'just wanted to let us know he gave a sh#t'. Awh. How sweet. He didn't know any other system more effective than their current one, and he's been a manager for 15 years, yknow. One I could recommend would be, anything other than what they're doing now. Alternatively, taking the order first and then getting people to pay at the end of their meal, also known as, table service, is very effective. The free 'sorry for being awful desserts' were alright but nothing to write home about...and I did get some good instagram photo's that made it look like a good time so it wasn't all bad.

You know how horror films start out with a slight sense of unease, then rise to a definite knowledge that something is going wrong, up to a climax where full nightmare is realised? That's how my latest visit to Pratt & Payne worked out.Went to the bar to order a couple of drinks and small dishes as part of the Streatham food festival. Suspicions were raised when I saw the bar tender faff something shocking over splitting a lady's bill over two cards. I had that wariness, "that really shouldn't be taking that long..." Finally he came to serve me and my patience began to wear thing. He moved so slow it was like he was moving through jelly. Thank god I was next in line to be served else I would have left, though looking back, that would have been a lucky escape. But no one gets those in horror films.Back to my table, dirty table, with crumbs all over the seat. Saw another group arrive, select a table then move to another, their first one was dirty also. Their second choice was dirty too but less so, so they moved the empty plates and glasses off it and sat down. Third group joined and took the second party's first choice since, although dirty, was cleaner than the others which now had stacked dishes on them. Ominous signs...After about an hour sat there, party two were served. We complained and were told shortly shortly. Then party three was served so I went to cancel our order. Turns out they'd given my food to a table outside (at the back of the bar), despite me pointing out at the time of ordering that we were sitting at the very front of the bar. Genius. I was then asked to sit down and wait in order to get my money back. Five minutes later a guy came and handed me my money back. What a disaster! No food in the middle of a food festival! What a nightmare!!!

The staff are always friendly, although when we have been on the weekend, generally they have looked understaffed?/rushed off their feet - so it can take a while to get served, although they are apologetic about it.The food has been good 3 out of 4 occasions, we had been told that they had just changed the chef, so maybe he was taking time to settle in? We have been back since and the food was back to the previous high standard. They have a range of beers and wines and the staff are knowledgeable about all of the products that they offer. The atmosphere has been good whenever we have been in, sometime live music, or good background music. The décor is quirky, but works well in the venue.

Sometimes looks very empty and at others it's completely rammed. Unpredictable but staff seem very nice although on the verge of hipster snobbery. Don't become a Hoxton attitude venue because this is South London.

We've eaten here so many times, and only once has the food been a bit disappointing. End of the day on a sunday when they were running low on roasts. Every other time we have been impressed with the menu, the meals and the portions. Definitely quality over quantity (but I am not a fan of roasts that are piled 10" high on a plate so that works for me). Most recently we had our NCT group 1st year old birthday and the staff gave us our own little area and even put play mats down for the kids. It's a really nice little touch and I'd recommend it as a great Sunday pub if you have children and a passion for good old fashion Brit fare.

I like this place. They have a good selection of beers. Food is pretty good to. It does seem chef dependent so if a new chef comes in the food menus may well change. The decor is quite interesting and I must admit the first time I visited it wasn't my cup of tea but the place has really grown on me. They got a band to play there for hallloween and all the staff dressed up. It was a great atmosphere.Happy to recommend.

Good variety of beers, fun space, good atmosphere. This is one of the pubs I try and go to as much as any in Streatham, owned by the same people as the BBC in Balham and the Tram and Social. Quirky decor!

I live locally and they've made a few excellent changes here recently. This includes a new menu with really great food. I can honestly say that I had the best beef stroganoff I've ever had here the other day (and I've had a few in my time!). The onglet is also a great choice. There is always a lively atmosphere, and you have a choice between the main part of the pub (usually the busier bit) vs. the more restaurant like tables at the back. I will be back again and again!

Pratt's and Payne is definitely one of the better places to go for a drink in Streatham. They have a great, changing selection of beers and the bar food is decent. They also try to keep things interesting, with a quiz, vintage fairs, record club and more - I hope they carry on in this vein!

Booked a table for a Saturday night. Some mix up meant that table was not available. Staff then accommodated us in the bar area and pushed a couple of tables together. The service was good as it was busy. Food good value and good quality. Burgers were rated highly. Not a huge selection of beers on tap, nor was there a great selection of wines. Mind you , you should be able to get something that suits!

This is a great place to go for drinks and bar snacks. The food is average pub food. We've tried their Sunday roast (not good), sandwiches (ok) & starters (ok). The fact that there is a restaurant at the back is misleading. But the atmosphere is good fun, so simply visit for drinks rather than food. The place is called Pratts & Payne, by the way, not Pratt & Payne. Freudian slip maybe.

Went here for food as part of Streatham Festival. The portions were absolutely minuscule and a complete rip off. This pub is too overpriced and pretentious for streatham.

I went here for the first time to treat my friend to some wine and food for her birthday. When i first got served it was fine, pleasant staff however when i went to order some food the bar was a little bit busier then before. I'm kidding you not all 3 staff served everyone around me for 15 mins. When they went to do it again to serve someone who had just that moment walked in i lost my rag. Come on guys these are the basics, i felt like I must smell or something! I walked out, went to Perfect Blend instead who served me straight away. I hate bad customer service.

Was really excited about eating here but bitterly disappointed by the food. Waited an hour for tasteless unappetising food. Do not eat here if you are a vegetarian.

Really enjoyed my visits to this pub, good atmosphere and very welcoming. The food isn't gourmet more simple pub food but our meal was good, steaks and burger and haloumi sandwich for the vegetarian. There is not a wide choice of food just enough to provide a bit of variety. We ate here because it was convenient and we were enjoying the friendly atmosphere. If that's what you are looking for I would recommend it. Free live music too!

Visited pratts and Payne for Sunday lunch. It was an utter disaster and I am confident in saying we won't be going again. We waited 2 hours for cold, tasteless food. It is an utterly chaotic place, the staff didn't seem particularly bothered that we had been waiting so long for our food. There are many good places to eat in Streatham now and this clearly isn't one of them.

I booked the Christmas menu for lunch for me and some friends for the Saturday before Christmas. We wanted the Christmas menu advertised at http://www.prattsandpayne.com/christmas/ (although how long this will stay online I don't know...). I confirmed with the manager via email that we could have the Christmas menu in the more private and intimate restaurant area and when I asked if I could please bring my own crackers, hats etc was told that we wouldn't need to bring any of our own as they had plenty. However when we arrived our reservation had been moved into the main pub which was empty and had no atmosphere... There weren't even any decorations up let alone any attempt to provide the nice festive things we were told we wouldn't have to bring ourselves, and a sarcastic response when I enquired - it's a pub so I don't expect it, but if I'm told not to worry bringing my own then please don't roll your eyes at me when I ask whether the things the pub manager has promised me are going to appear! Then we were told the Christmas menu wasn't available and we could have the regular bar menu only. So we left and went to the Manor Arms who bent over backwards at really short notice when they were packed to give us a lovely Christmas meal. Sorry P&P, I've enjoyed drinking with you but if your staff can't even be bothered to try and deliver what the pub manager has promised me by email then frankly I can't see why I should be bothered to drink with you in future.

I've really enjoyed Sunday lunch here. I felt the food served was on-par with the likes of the Railway and Manor Arms, but the prices are much cheaper at Pratts and Payne. Love the quirky interior - though if you go to the back, on Sunday lunch times, it's much nicer than the front with candle lit tables. I will return and would recommend it to others too.

Went to Pratts & Payne yesterday for Sunday lunch and it was great - the food was really tasty, we didn't have to wait long, the staff were really friendly and the price was really good value. it had a nice relaxed vibe, busy but not too busy!! I will be going back again soon ... and will try to persuade my Clapham/Balham friends to venture here as they won't be disappointed!!!!I'm proud to have this pub on the High Road .. exactly what Streatham needs!

This was a great little pub - really atmospheric, great food and service. Then it changed managers and things appear to have gone downhill. The drinks are still good and the sausage rolls are still tremendous - the food is okay. What I really take exception to is waiting 1 hr and 15 minutes for a roast dinner with no apology. Bumping into a couple of ladies in the toilets, both commented on how they'd waited over and hour for their lunch also. Finally when our lunch arrived the waitress asked, "Did you order food?" and I said, "Yes, over and hour ago!" and she just said, "Yeah...er...it's been pretty busy." So what?! My parents ran pubs all of their lives and that sort of wait with no forewarning or apology is unacceptable.Seriously guys - you need to sort out the waiting times, pronto!

A nice shabby chic style bar on streatham high street. Good atmosphere, and comfy seating.Have eaten here twice and both times the menu and food quality let it down, with poor choiceand badly cooked food on some dishes. Desserts were pretty uneatable, with rock hard summer pudding and Eton mess with no meringuein, it was just some tasteless cream with blobs of strawberry in. Although the food was reasonably priced.A really nice atmosphere with a great social atmosphere and good location. Good for a nice drink with friends.

I generally like antics pubs (the parent company owner) but I would say that this one is more shabby than anything. The service is consistently disappointing and expensive for the area. We asked the bar staff to turn the music down at one point, it was very loud considering how early it was and we were told rather sharply "we are creating an atmosphere". A few members of staff are usually rather curt at the best of times.I have visited a few times and the food is usually very good but we have had to wait a ridiculous amount of time on several occasions when our food has been given to the wrong table or our order got lost. The pub has good potential but requires new and more enthusiastic staff.

I've been a big Antic pub fan (the company that own this pub) since their great pubs such as the Antelope in Tooting SW17 and the Balham Bowling Club offered great Ale and really great food. I don't know if I caught them on an off Monday night but the chef must have been having a mare. The driest, most over cooked burger I've had in london in a long time! I can't help but think a Streatham kebab shop may have offered a tastier burger! The 'barcelona' burger promised so much, delivered little. Sorry guys, but ordered medium, arrived grey and well done. The thickest slice of chorizo ever on top and 'manchego' cheese apparently on top. I did feed back to your staff when they asked how the food was but little offer of an apology! This is a superb pub for Streatham, ambience is good, choice of Ale is great but really let down by the food. How can the Antelope be so good for food and this not follow through? Shame. My wife's pasta was pretty good but nothing special either.

A great pub with quirky decor. Streatham is an up and coming area and this pub is testament to that. Lovely friendly staff, great beers and ales, good food and none of this minimum spend rubbish when paying for drinks on your card. They are starting to put DJ's on too which is brilliant and much needed. Highly recommend this place.

I have been here three or four times since moving into the neighbourhood six months ago. While there is nothing particularly noteworthy the service, food and drink are all consistently good. One of those places where you get exactly what you expect and are glad of it. A bit more attention to detail and this could be a stand out place.

I wouldn't expect a place like this in this area... When you go in straight away you feel an atmosphiere that bring you away from the area! Very particular interior decoration... I liked the idea of decorating with bit and pieces like if you are in an old house... Then of course you don't know what food you are going to be served... Wow! I order the lamb shoulder with courgettes rise and mushrooms.... It was so tender that only to press with the fork it would brake it... The courgettes they was like butter the mushrooms very taste and the rise suit perfectly with the dishes!! My girlfriend took a chicken brest with potatoes and cabbage and was the same of my dishes a little bit crispy on the skin but very jucy and tender on the inside!! If you are near this area and want to have a place different from this area;) this is the place!!

Love the pub- been here a few times and enjoyed the décor and great selection of beers. Went there for the first time for dinner on a Friday evening. Started out fairly early- attentive staff to start with, but as the place filled up the wait got longer and longer. 50minutes between ordering our ice creams and getting them! But it was worth the wait, I can tell you. The small menu offered enough choice, and all dishes were cooked very well, especially the squid. And the best bit has to be the ice cream! Homemade, cheap and incredibly delicious. Salted caramel, blood orange sorbet, you name it. Worth coming back for, even if I had to wait an hour next time!

I visited the pub for dinner in January, the atmosphere was nice and relaxedThe bar had a good selection of beers and wines, I had a good glass of merlot and my husband had his favourite Belgian beer.We shared the mussels as starter which were very fresh and delicious and both had the burger for main, which was also really tasty.Portions are huge so we didn't have any room for dessert, sadly. It's more expensive than the average local pub, but that's the price to pay for good quality fresh food and drinks and well worth every penny. Will back soon to try the Sunday roast!

You get the impression that the owner of this pub sat down with a laptop and googled "quirky gastropub" and then simply copied the images. Farrow & Ball paint? Check. MIsmatched (uncomfortable) chairs? Check. Small and wobbly tables? Check. Unimpressive gastropubby food? Check! This place has gone sadly downhill. Through the summer of 2012 the food was relatively good. Simple, but well cooked. But the last two visits have yielded inedible risotto and a burnt burger and sandwich. Last night was particularly odd, with the waitress refusing to bring us drinks during dinner but instead insisting that we go to the bar ourselves each time. So overall I doubt we'll be returning.

We booked an outside table as they have heaters but they had no gas in either of them. This means that when one ran out nobody had bothered to replace it. At least the waiter tried the second one which we were grateful for but this place is not well run. Two things were missing from the very small children’s menu. We put out orders in and then all had to wait over an hour for our food. We had asked for some nibbles but nothing came. We eventually ordered some chips as there was nothing else to eat. Then the food arrived came and was almost inedible. The cauliflower Wellington had a soggy piece of pastry on it and was served with an undercooked chunk of cabbage. The gauchujong tofu was a poorly plated mess, and the tofu was rubbery. The arancini balls were just not tasty. The waiter asked if the food was ok within minutes of it coming and we said yes but hadn’t really had a chance to eat much of it by then and we were so grateful to get any food as were so hungry. The quality of the food was very poor for the price we paid. The staff seemed to be doing what they could but would often disappear and we had to go in to get service several times. Just don’t book this place and definitely not outside.

A very disappointing experience. I would strongly advise NOT going here for a Sunday roast. - We had to wait 45 for our order to be taken. - the Diet Coke tasted of nothing, how do you get Coke wrong? - The food was average at best. The Roast potato's were probably the worst I’ve ever had, tasteless and rubbery. The beef was badly over cooked and very chewy. Not satisfied at with my experience.
