Went in for a drink with my mam at about 5:30pm. We were served quickly at the bar, staff member was polite and friendly. We sat at a table and mam started looking at the menu on the table and decided she’d like some food. I went up to the bar to order for her only to be told that they don’t serve food after 6pm. This is not advertised anywhere as far as we could see. I would also suggest that is this is the case then the menus should be removed from the tables! My mam was really disappointed!

My wife and I went yesterday to North Shields for a bit of shopping. We decided to stop somewhere for some lunch whilst we were out and decided on the Pow Burn. When we went in, I was surprised at how clean and spacious the pub is. For lunch, we ordered 2 American burgers with a side order of coleslaw. I can honestly say that the portions were huge , the burgers were delicious. The coleslaw was obviously homemade, and again, the size of the portion was massive, but it tasted beautiful. We'll definitely be going back.

My hubby and I recently had some lunch at The Pow Burn this week. I had the festive melt baguette and what s feast. Plentiful juicy turkey, stuffing balls and cheese in a crispy baguette. This was accompanied by homemade turkey gravy, chips and cranberry sauce. Delicious.

This Place is great, low cost Alcohol and a good choice too, food is good, hot fresh food served quickly. It's clean! It's not full of idiots or the Pretentious that frequent some of the Bars on the local Fish quay. Staff are nice and nice looking! This place is a hidden Gem!

Went for meal on 17th August 2020 for the meal deal place was lovely and clean service was excellent had steak meal my friend had chicken hunters meal it came hot well presented was lovely would recommend these meals friendly and helpful hard working staff thank you for making my visit a lovely one and thank you chef 👨‍🍳 for a lovely meal 🥘 .

Went today friday 9th, had 3 shearing meals. Soup excellent, chicken and salad lovely nachos excellent as allways. Staff are always very pleasant and efficient Thank you.

The three of us had the shering platers. Excellent, we had cheesey chips, chicken strips and nachos . PLENTY of food the nachos were huge. Excellent service, Excellent staff. We will be back. Thanks.

We go here often when we are in North Shields. The pub has had a revamp looking good a lot better than it was very grubby. Food very good and plenty of it .

Visited August 2018 and it was ok. Food was good but there was a horrible smell and refused to go back because of the smell.Today we came in with our in laws after a recent refurbishment and we are massively impressed. Much brighter and the smell is gone. Food still good. The only downside is the gents toilets, lots of graffiti in the cubicles, and you have to fight to get access to toilet roll. Overall its a great improvement.

Came for Sunday lunch place has been decorated looks lovely lovely and clean service was excellent friendly smiling staff and very helpful ordered meal and did not have to wait long meal was big plate full all fresh vegetables and lovely chicken which came lovely and hot would certainly recommend this place for your Sunday lunch cheap drinks on as well .

Ordered a white wine soda. Came in a dirty glass and flat. When I complained, my flat drink was poured into a pint glass and filled up with soda, drowning the wine. No apology was made. The service is consistent poor, the place is filthy, and the staff just don't care. Carpet is pulled up revealing dirty mdf, it's so dark you can't see, and the only thing going for it is that it's affordable

Came in with my other half and ordered some meals. Food was nice and the pies were home made which was a surprise. I had corned beef and the other half had steak and ale. Both impressed with food and portions too. The only thing that lets this down is the fact it’s a bit too dark and dingy and we could also smell the toilets slightly too. Some of the seating is damaged too but a few more lights and refurbished seating and this place would be better.

My son had Sausage and mash with gravy, no peas or anything added but it wouldn't have improved this meal even if there was. The mash was out of a packet, looked and tasted awful. My so called Homemade soup of lentil and veg ( i beg to differ) was so thick I couldn't dip the Baguette in it, the baguette was served warm and I struggled to rip it apart because it had been in the microwave too long , not crusty one little bit. If I hadn't have been so hungry I would have left it, my son eat his meal because he eats any old rubbish but did say " What the hell have I just forced down? " The only thing this pub has got going is the lovely bar staff but I wont in a million years eat in there again !!

I often come into here with friends, family and on my own and have never had a bad drink, bad service or bad food. The team who run the place are excellent at their jobs and make you feel welcome as soon as you come in. The food is great and good size portions and always been to a high standard. Proper pub food. Prices are very reasonable and I couldn’t recommend highly enough. A real asset to North Shields! Get yourself along, be rude not to.

Fast,friendly, as advertised, cheap but saving the planet by being so dark you almost need a torch ? Lol I.ll be back though as cheap and friendly is all I'm after.

Gordon Ramsey and his mates have a lot to answer for. Now every chef in a pub all over the UK tarts up a standard meal with red wine gravy, or mustard mash or something arty. Not here however! Straight forward UK meals, decent portions and all fresh veg, pleasant staff too. The seats are a bit worn but not dirty. Recommend it a lot and we travel about 30 mile for our sunday dinner.

This pub is with out doubt one of the best places to eat in north shields. The choice of food from the menu is really good ranging from breakfast to lunch to basic snacks. There is also a wide of beers, lagers, ciders and wines. The staff are polite and willing to help at all times.

Came to have lunch today was served straight away for drinks by friendly bar staff found a table found place clean and tidy looked at menu and went to bar to order was helped to order by friendly bar staff food came hot it was lovely friendly place children welcome would recommend this place has meal deals .

This is proberly the best pub in North Shields.

The PB is cheap and cheerful... Kind of a Wetherspoons style. Decor is a little shabby in spots but doesnt really matter. I come for the breakfast, which is one of the greatest fry ups in the country. Perfect in every way... Doorstop toast, thick bacon, stewed beans, hashbrowns, tomato, fat sausages, all well cooked and hot. Mug of fresh coffee. Great for winter mornings. Nicely decked out for xmas. Friendly staff. I recommend it.

Got the wrong food delivered to the table and then got the blame cause I was so busy talking,I hadn't realised it. Staff rude and waitress completely incompetent

Hemos estado aquí antes cuando abrió y me sorprendió gratamente. Bien sin duda no es el mismo como lo fue entonces. . . . El lugar estaba sucio las mesas pegajosas y los escaños que olía a rancio y no era de alguien sentado allí nuestros, este había estado allí un rato. Lo que es una pena porque la comida era bastante agradable y un buen precio y estaba llenando bastante rápido, ya que la izquierda. Conseguir y mantener en profundo limpiado encima de los clientes o se pierde.

Decidimos probar el dos por 7 libras. Menú 99 Almuerzo con mi madre.

Yo estaba buscando un sitio barato para comer. Yo pedí un pollo parmo. Llegó con guisantes extra que no fueron mencionados en el menú. La comida era barata, pero comestible. Era cocinado y probado bien.

This pub has got to be one of the best in North Shields, great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food, variety of ales. It's in good location for both bus and metro. They open early and provide one the best breakfast you,ll get anywhere if your feeling I would recommend the big daddy breakfast.

Have been twice both times my meal was "missed" off the order !!! But not apparent until other meals delivered to table .... humble apologies from staff but no offer of free coffee or anything I work with two adults with learning difficulties so could not walk out as they were eating. Will not go again two chances is enough!!!

We went for a New Year's Day drink with the family and thought we'd choose this pub as Ive heard good things...Well...We entered the pub and were immediately greeted by two staff members kicking a few punters out - clearly they'd had too much to drink and we're extremely foul mouthed and argumentative. Putting that aside, we tried to order drinks. Waiting at the bar was a nightmare, feeding time at the zoo. Staff didn't know who was next to serve, many people literally pushing you out of the way to get there first - even though they were second in line. One served though, drinks were of a reasonable price and tasted as one would expect so you got what you paid for in essence. To get to the lavatory, you had to use the stairs. Walking through the door, we were greeted by a carpeted staircase covered in wet toilet tissue. Inside the (male, I can't comment on the female) lavatory, there was two idiots having an argument. Entering, I had to cross what was basically a river of urine. Locks on cubicles are all smashed or even missing. Standing there in a yellow puddle wasn't too pleasant I'll say. There was no toilet tissue (probably all over the stairs) plus neither of the hand driers were working... brill. An hour later, back up and still no loo roll. Put it this way, trainers in the washing machine when I got home - good job there was a puddle outside to wash them in before getting in the taxi. By the way, just before we left, I had to take shelter in a cubicle as a fight started between two people and I didn't want to get involved funnily enough. I appreciate it was New Year's Day and you'd expect it to be busy, but not like a zoo full of idiots and staff who didn't seem to care. I thought the place was very unhygienic and unwelcoming and I'll certainly think twice before going back. Sorry, but you failed this time and such an important day should have been a priority when it comes to customer satisfaction.

First off can just say to anyone who has or is reading this mans review that it is totally untrue. I have been visiting this establishment for a few year now and l find it a very enjoyable and welcoming place to enjoy a few beers and a good meal. The food is not frozen it is always bought in fresh. Yes the seating and toilets,could do with an upgrade but in the present financil climate which public house can afford it unless they are from a big chain of pubs. His comments about the staff could not be further from the truth, they are friendly and very polite to all customers. They work very hard to help customers out, you have a very good choice of meals and beveridges. From reading his comments about being on a business lunch he might have had more chance of impressing his client by taking him to a proper restaurant in the evening which is what l used to when l was in business. By the sound of his review he must not have completed the deal he set to get and is feeling annoyed about it so he,s now using the powburn as an excuse to make himself feel better. Keep up the good work and good service you give to each and everyone of your customers guys.

Thought we would give the breakfasts a shot as we had always just tryed the sunday lunches , we were offered small, large or big daddy breakfasts, i went for large my partner went for the big daddy , service was friendly and we only waited a short while , on a arrival of our breakfasts our words were " wow" and we soon got tucked in , every mouthful was going down a treat , i had a lovely pot of tea and my partner had a huge cup of coffee, i can honestly say i thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it , my partner cleared his plate also , will deffo b back for breakfasts as well as our dinners . We both find the powburn very friendly and enjoy the banter the staff are amazing and always have time for you

What a mistake that was. A client of our business suggested going for a quick lunch. As I am from Morpeth I had little idea of choice in Northshields. After the meal that was put in front of me I regret not going to a freezer food shop. The cheapest of the cheap frozen food microwaved. A similar meal in a plastic tray from Iceland would of cost a fraction of the price I was charged. Very cold in the middle but lip burning hot on the outside while also being tasteless . The diners next to ourselves were fairly disgusted to find more than one hair in their meal. The only table available was filthy and something slimey under the table stained my clients trousers. I am glad my children were not with me because the type of language would put football hooligans to shame. There was excrement on the inside wall of a toilet cubicle and when attempting to politely pass on my concerns to a member of female staff who looked more like a bouncer than a lady, I was sworn at and told to go elsewhere if I did not like it. I felt had she not been drunk on duty she may not have been so aggressive. Other members of staff laughing while she swore at me made matters worse. Please avoid if you have children or class.

we went for sunday lunch and was quite disapointed as it had clearly been precooked from frozen food and microwaved as needed although it was advertised as home cooked.all in all it was ok but i would not recommend to any one

Popped in for a half pint and had a look at the menu. Thought I would give it a go. Gammon steak chips eggs and peas. I was pleasantly surprise lovely steak, two eggs, peas all cooked just right and I was a very happy man. Its a normal chain pub grub but tasty and good value. Service was good and the place very clean better value then the burger king on the corner but that is good as well if its a quick snack you are after. Will be back again when I need a good meal without any fuss. Prices are good.

I am a local to the powburn and can't fault them for cheap drinks and lovely staff. The only downfall is that the food is absolutely rank. Jacket potato was barley cooked (tasted like it has just been dug out the ground) and basically no filling. Food 100% needs improved.

Worst customer service ever. Waited at the bar to be served for at least 10 minutes whilst the staff were stood talking and laughing amongst theirselves. When food was brought to table the waitress just slammed plates down and walked away. No one come back to ask if everything was okay, which it wasn't. Hardly no filling within my jacket potato and it was barely cooked. Also wondering when they last had their beer lines cleaned as the larger is vile.

Called in Saturday lunchtime as we were in town and passing and it looked ok from outside. Inside the place is really nice clean spacious seating comfortable. Love that they have retained and maintained the wooden stairs to the first floor.Good choice of food on the menu and prices very reasonable. You don't often see liver and onions on a menu (husbands favorite) but they have and it was good too. Me, I chose fish and chips - the fish was the best I've had in a long time, soft white flakes not the dried tasteless fish which is so often served in other pubs. Staff were brilliant served the food quickly and cleared away quickly too, and were friendly, helpful and pleasant, Good pub for a quick lunch while in North Shields cant fault the place would recommend it and will definitely visit again. Alround enjoyable visit

I took my grandad and my nephew in here I ordered food at the bar, when it arrived the food was fine was actually quite tasty, the thing that put me off going here again is its meant to a "family pub" there was people shouting and swearing, bearing in mind it was 1pm in the afternoon I could understand if it was a Friday or Saturday night. Also there was people actually selling drugs by the toilets in the pub. The bar staff were made aware and acted straight away and asked them to leave they even told the people that were swearing in the pub to stop. Can't fault the staff in any way.

Food was good for the price we paid £4,99 for a burger chips and a drink isnt to bad, waited for 40 minutes for the food which i class as a terrible service but alright overall

I wouldn't bother going here for food when they are plenty of other places close by that are much more worth your money. I ordered a beef burger and chips, as well as accepting the offer to upgrade with onion rings when i placed my order. The burger i received was vile. I'm not certain how it was made but it certainly wasn't fresh, the inside of it was all segmented - very off putting. The chips were just frozen oven chips that had been fried, very greasy and some weren't cooked properly. I received 3 whole onion rings as my upgraded side, these were under cooked and hard. The girl who brings the food out clearly has no customer service experience, whatever happened to service with a smile. Overall I wasn't impressed - left most of the meal. Won't be returning.

The Powburn, North Shields. Now, I fully support these open all day Value pubs - but a Wetherspoon's the Powburn definitely is not .It's more like a poor distant cousin that no one really likes - and please note "Powburn" that's a compliment ! and one which I could also extend not only to it's poor quality beer,dirty glasses, grotty interior and somewhat "suspicious" odour throughout, but to it's matching ill mannered, unprofessional supervisory staff who are more likely to be found out back smoking a Richmond then ensuring any type of customer satisfaction. Perhaps the positive reviews on the friendly staff were by the staff themselves ???!! During my visit I found it necessary to return a drink as it tasted bad, the glass was visually filthy and not only did they point blank refuse to change it but were rude about it too - and I also didn't appreciate the indirect scowl given by the supervisor ! This Wetherspoon wannabie establishment fails miserably in all areas, unless of course you like that type of thing............

First time I visited this bar I found the bar staff very friendly , the pub itself is inviting clean and well planned out, lots of space comfy seats , canny dance floor and plays great music for all ages , the dj is always happy to play ur fave tunes. Nice big smoking shelter at back out the way , cheap drink and tasteful as well , will DEFFO be visiting this bar again they make you feel welcome .... Well done powburn staff

Great pub , with good and a good range of beers, wines and spirits, good choice of food on the menu to suit all. Friday night is disco night with reduced priced drinks . Well worth a visit .

the food served here is fine if you r the sort of person that likes frozen convenience food or ready meals, nothing on the menu is home made in fact just about every thing is the same that you could get from a super market freezer and take home and cook your self and pay alot less for, the staff however are very nice, in my opinion the pow burn is fine if you just fancy a drink but the food however is nothing to get exited about in fact the food is plain awful

Ive visited here a few times for food and drinks.I really feel this pub is undervalued in North Shields. It is much better than the majority of 'local pubs', for 'local people'.The service is always friendly, the drinks and food are all cheap. And of a good standard.Out of all the pubs in North Shields I have tried this is one of my favourites.

There were people behind us dealing drugs. But apart from that the food was nice, staff were friendly. I do think there should be a downstairs toilet though.

Great Pub, Fantastic Staff and a very good atmosphere. Friday night is cheap, drinks night, this pub is very lively, is also postioned right in the centre of North Shields which makes easy to access for lunch while out shopping.

Being local means you can give two opportunities before judge a place. Here i cant mistake as I give three opportunities. I ate once, will not try again, sorry could not eat it. I didn't choose an elaborate dish just a burger. If you use simply fresh ingredients will taste good. I went Sunday night for a drink and despite being fairly empty and two bartenders it was about two minutes to being served a warm bottle of becks. I dint see anybody drinking becks how could be warm. I went back for some relaxing drink and chat another night, a bad night? I have to choose to drink any thing after my first two pint choices were unavailable. Give me any lager will you as i run out of guesses and choices.

fabulous large family pub, with a variety and valued meals for all.Staff all seemed helpful and friendly exceeded my expectations will most definatley be returing.

I went here with my family for food and drinks and was a bit worried with what had been written on here, but I need not have worried, it was great. We were served staightaway, the ladie who served us had very good product knowledge of the menu and advised of all the deals on to make our bill that bit cheaper! The food was lovely, portion size was just right and the staff were very friendly and welcoming and clean toilets! Kids meals were £3.50 for meal, dessert and drink what more could we ask for.

we went to this it was brilllllllllllllllllllll doors wide open fresh and vibrant strait in with wheelchair at table 10 went to bar and ordered food and got served within abt 10.to 15 mins for meal to be served food was fine as had all day breakfast was humungus lady behind bar very nice chatty ..........was service with smile took plates away dead quick ............i will be back very happy with service receIved have been a few times on drink and no problems at all.good food

Went in at lunch time staff weren't very nice to us I'm in a wheelchair the meals were terrible I had lasagne which tasted of soap when we spoke to the staff they had a terrible attitude and said there can't be anything wrong with it as its pre packed it says homage on the menu and the fish&chips were greasy we left everything and went to greggs across the road not nice for us visiting North Shields never going to this pub again it was dirty couldn't find disabled toilet

The pub was lovely when it 1st opened - BUT - it is now scruffy inside and do NOT get me started about the women's toilets?? OMG!! i would not go back...

went for lunch with a few friends and our children.. waiting staff was lovely had our meal which where acceptable for this type of pub. As we were preparing to leave, the managment stormed over and demanded we leave at the top of her voice infront of all other customers because our children where screaming, and apparently on for over half and hour. in which they where not as three of them where asleep and one was 'grizzling' not 'screaming'.. and you could clearly see that we where getting ready to leave anyway... never mind to have her snotty attitude towards us paying customer... and then to have her still complaing about us and slagging us of to other customers when we where leaving i think its a total disgrace... im never going back to the restaurant again... one very angery and upset customer..

After a morning appointment in town we were starving so noticing they served breakfasts here we popped in.The pub looks it's a regular meeting place for some, and it had quite a warming atmosphere.There was the normal choice what you'd expect from your typical 2 for 1 menus, so don't go here expecting the spectacular.The staff were welcoming, the food was OK, did a job !!!

I have been here twice for food, once for a breakfast which was revolting and luke warm, cheap sausage and just generally poor standard. Second time was a lamb shank, which I assume was bought in, horrible horrible food. Service is also crap, don't know who some of the staff think they are. I will never go back. If anything they serve here is cooked from scratch I will eat my slippers

Hubby and me went for a snack in the Pow Burn Thursday 5th July, I had Jacket Potato and beans, hubby had potato wedges with cheese. My jacket potato was burned and I got a table spoon of beans, potato wedges were too well done, would not recommend it. Also staff were not interested spend more time chatting to regulars at the bar. This place is slowly getting worse.

If your in the middle of north shields and fancy a bite for lunch then its the best place. Food is average for adults and good for kids, good value aswell for some meals. Would avoid going late afternoon and evening unless you enjoy eating dinner in a rowdy atmosphere. But it is a pub and its a town pub atmosphere you get.

From the outside the Pow Burn looks just like any other everyday pub but inside was quite a revelation. I was immediately taken with the size of the interior, enough room to be both friendly and private.The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient - when the barmaid (excuse the terminology, I'm an old-fashioned gal!), offered to help me with my drink and promptly carried it over to my table I could almost imagine I was in the Rovers Return being offered table service from Tina, or, previously, Liz.For lunch I opted for the fish and chips with mushy peas and am so pleased that I did as it was wonderful. Freshly cooked chips and hand-battered fish - mouth-wateringly delicious. I'm not a huge eater so struggled with my portion (regular size) but tried my damndest to finish as it was so lovely, sadly, I was unable to do so.With a range of starters, melts, wraps and mains, this award winning pub (The Publican Food & Drink Awards 2010), offers food that even the smallest purse could afford.Visit the family friendly Pow Burn is you like your food fresh, your service with a smile and the atmosphere relaxing.

The food is not bad in most instances, however some of the staff look and sound like they don't want to be there, in an industry where a smile goes a long way would make me go back, however on my last vist service wasn't what it used to be, which in turn brings the atmosphere down also. I would still recommend to a friend, but the staff need to cheer up a bit more!!

Crap pub! Crap wine! But one beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, tantalizing, flaxen dark haired beauty, with a great laugh, is a great reason to visit.

Huge selection and huge dinner, spoiled by the undercooked vegetables and horrendous soggy Yorkshire pudding
