Positano Sa1 in Swansea

Booked for graduation, despite being 4 days before they cancelled my booking. Was really looking forward to it as i’ve heard good reviews from other people. However, there were structural issues that could not be avoided, due to them cancelling my booking and me paying a deposit to reserve the table they ensured i would get a refund made to the same account i paid from. With multiple calls made and no email to contact there is no response. Quite gutted as we were looking forward to it, however it should not be that difficult to refund the customers who paid in advance when they could not open.

Resturant took £45 deposit for 9 people to attend a graduation meal and left a message on ans machine to cancel the week before due to structural problems. I have contacted them on numerous occasions to refund the deposit. No response.

We are really disappointed! We booked a table for 9 people to celebrate my graduation. We arrived but the restaurant was closed and seemed permanently closed. We lost 45£ booking fee. Nobody answered my calls and the email we sent could not be delivered. I feel it was a scam and it caused inconveniences to the family. Really disappointed!

The food was nice when it eventually came- over an hour and 20 minute wait for starters and then another hour wait for main courses which were warm at best, but we were so hungry by that point we were desperate to eat. After also asking for gluten free options they mixed up the order for bringing something that we said we didn’t want because it wasn’t gluten free. The staff were friendly but didn’t seem to know what was happening most of the time

So bad. we went for my brothers graduation celebration and we were the first ones in there, we sat down and it was freezing cold in there so we asked if could turn the air conditioning off which we then had to ask again cause he didn’t, and then we ordered drinks which they took like 30 minutes to come and then our starters took around 45 minutes to an hour to come and those are starters, the calamari was undercooked but everything else we ordered was ok, and then our food took about an hour and a half to come after asking about it, even tho we had pre ordered online, and in that time we noticed others peoples food was coming out before ours, and we ordered another round of drinks and those never came they also didn’t take our plates away for ages, it was still cold in the restaurant and we were getting very impatient, food finally came, and the pizza had no tomato base on it, the salmon was average, and my steak was chewy and overcooked and hard to cut and very small, which had a side of lettuce with this brown sauce like reddish sauce which didn’t look appetising, we were going to have dessert but we didn’t want too after how long we waited for our meals, bare in mind we still hadn’t had our drinks, so we decided instead of waiting for the bill we payed them up front, and made sure they didn’t charge us for the drinks, what a waste of money and time. very very disappointed.

Booked a meal here weeks in advance for my graduation day (11/07/23). As we walked in there were multiple customers complaining about their meals and staff seemed shocked when we arrived, explaining that they needed to prepare a table for us as they weren’t expecting us even though it was booked and we came on time. Once seated, all empty tables around us were dirty and had not been cleared with no sight of being cleared either. We waited 25 minutes to be served and no one came so we walked out and I don’t even think staff noticed us leaving. No sight of a manager or anyone guiding staff the whole time we were there. Absolutely astonishing how purely run this restaurant was on a Tuesday evening, especially considering the upper class decor and high costs. So glad we walked out and had a brilliant meal elsewhere.

Ruined graduation meal! This is not anything to do with the staff at the restaurant. They were very accommodating and helpful despite the upset that occurred. The restaurant was extremely understaffed despite them taking deposits and pre-orders knowing that an event was on (graduation). The food was coming out extremely slowly and it was an hour and a half before we had our starters after being sat. The staff worked so hard but there simply were not enough staff to deal with the demand. We got told that there was another table ahead of us waiting for food and we decided to pay for what we owed and leave. Very disappointing.

I had to ask the waiter to clean the table because it was dirty. I have eaten the most expensive margherita pizza ever... Almost 13 £! Not good. But not disgusting. That fed me anyway. I should have gone to McDonald's instead...

Arrived and there was literally no other customers, so I was a bit worried but our server was fantastic. We sat wherever we wanted, food arrived quickly and not only was it presented lovely, it tasted so amazingly. Portions were a little small, we had 3 courses which normally we wouldn't. We left full and had a lovely time. Meals have a variety of prices to suit people, so it can be reasonable or expensive. Nice selection of drinks. Will definitely go again

Went with friends for lunch and whilst the restaurant was very quiet the service was exemplary and the food was lovely. Am surprised at some of the previous comments as we couldn't fault a thing.

Awful experience - this had been booked and all food pre-ordered, but on the night they didn't seem to have a clue. Extensive wait, for average food. We were here for a cycling event very early the next morning, very inefficient team at the restaurant to say the least.

From the elegant frontage and expensive looking signs and deco, I thought this place was going to be our go to Italian being of Italian decent ourselves, how disappointed were we ! Service was slow, choice of menu basic no authenticity at all. Our initial waiter struggled with basic commands, we had to tell him three times for a specific request then when the order came out it was wrong. The special starter was tasty however the rest was bland and over priced. My calzone was served on its own not even a garnish or sauce to compliment it, when opened inside was dry with minimal filling.that looked like cheap ham and cheese and the taste confirmed that ! We only gave two stars as Jed one of the waiters was friendly and approachable.otherwise overall for us it would have been a one ! If you want that authentic Italian feel and/or taste avoid this place as you certainly won't get value for money.

What a disappointment! I would firstly like to say the food was lovely and compliments to the chef however it was very much shadowed by the worst service I’ve ever had. On arrival we were shown to our table and then left with no acknowledgment to ordering drinks. We then had our starters brought out and still no drinks. After asking 3 times we finally managed to be given our drinks. Onto the mains, again good food but no seasoning for the table. When asking for Parmesan for one of the meals we were told “no problem” yet this was a clear problem as it never came. Finally it was time to pay the bill. This is where the sneaky tactics started. A random bottle of wine had been placed on our bill. When questioning this we were met with the response “We are not robots” No room for an apology just attitude. I thought it was a genuine mistake until the table next to us had the same problem. This seems quite a coincidence. The whole time we were met with attitude from the staff and not made to feel welcome. Was meant to be a nice birthday meal which was just ruined by the inability to give good service. Recommend anyone to avoid this place.

Appalling slow service. We arrived early when the restaurant was empty. Even though we had pre-ordered all courses, it took 60 minutes before the first starter arrived. Then another 40 minutes until the main courses came, while everyone around us was served first. The only offer was 6 bottles of warm beer on the house. One to avoid.

Excellent surroundings on a glorious day, bifold doors bringing the outside in! Wonderful welcome and helped to table by caring staff, as I am disabled. We enjoyed freshly cooked food and highly recommend this restaurant. Great staff, food and ambiance. Will return. Thank you all .

Food was mediocre. Ordered the pasta with squid ink . Nothing to write home about . Had run out of pizza dough, which we found out 20minutes after ordering pizza. Location is nice. Probably wouldn’t go there again, and would scout other Italian places in swansea.

Party of 5 - two families - at a swim gala - visited two nights running at the York Street venue. really surprised by some reviews as the food was excellent - hence we went twice.all the pasta was al dente and beautifully presented. Spaghetti gamberi the prawns were delicious and tender. pizza was equally well cooked. we had two waiters on both nights who were really attentive and helpful. we will definitely visit again when next back here.

We paid £63 for 1 adult & 2 small children to dine. The menu choice was very standard and the food was OK. The service was extremely poor - not just for our table but for all surrounding tables: - there seemed enough waiting staff (at least 4) but they were always congregating near the arrival desk which was away from all the tables. Not once did I witness any of them simply wandering in the dining area - we found it difficult/impossible to attract any of the Waiters at any time - the table next to us waited over 20mins to have the chance to order their meal - once our food arrived we were never checked on during our dining - a Waitress took my empty plate away despite the other diners still eating. I find this very poor etiquette as it isolates the remaining diner(s) by bringing attention that they haven’t finished - when I eventually got the attention of a Waitress (who was busy chatting informally with her colleague at the arrival desk) I asked to order desert. She then had to “go get someone to take the order” - after we had received the desert menu which had a vast selection, it was only when they took our desert orders we were informed they had none of the options available except ice cream. Had we known this we could have left 25mins earlier and found a venue that was able to cater for our needs We really wanted to give this new venue a chance but based on all of the above I don’t think it would be fair on us to even consider revisiting

This review is for the new location on York Street. I am not sure where they get the impression that Italians only eat pasta and pizza, as that is what the vast majority of the menu was. The food we had was mostly good. The mussel starter was very tasty and of a good size, the seafood spaghetti for two was excellent, I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli, it was not the best, the pasta was quite rubbery and with very little sauce. The restaurant has a lot to learn about service. • A bottle of wine delivered to the table in wine cooler (not ice bucket) they put ice in the cooler which meant the majority of the bottle was hanging over the top of the cooler, thus defeating the object of the cooler. If the wine is cold enough you don’t need the ice, the cooler on its own should keep it chilled. To top it all they just put the bottle on the table and left us to open it and pour ourselves. • When taking our order, I asked for Sea Bass, but was informed it was not available, they should have informed us of this when we were seated, rather than have to waste time whilst a chose another dish. • They did not provide an empty bowl for the mussel shells and I had to ask for a finger bowl or wet wipe, the young server didn’t know what a finger bowl was, I had to explain, it was just a bowl of water with a slice of lemon to clean your hand after eating the muscles. • When the large dish of spaghetti was served there were plenty of seafood shells and langoustines, again no empty dish for the shells, when I finished my ravioli they had to use my empty dish for the shells. I also had to ask for finger bowls again. • I can’t comment on dessert because we weren’t offered any and we got fed up of waiting so asked for the bill. It’s a shame about the service issues because the food on the whole was good. We will return and hope they act on the comments in this review.

The food at SA1 Swansea branch was very bland, most of the beef meat dishes had both beef and pork but this was not stated in the menus and I was glad I checked with the waiter, so I ended up with a bland plain penne pasta with no seasoning or flavours. A fast food burger has more taste and flavour than the food at Positano in Swansea SA1!! Very over priced for the quality of food and please do mention the beef dishes contain pork on your menus, as a large population of communities don’t eat pork for religious reasons and some people have allergies and need to know!

Very bland food, the beef dishes don’t state in the menus that they also contain pork so I’m glad I checked with the waiter as I don’t eat pork due to religious reasons. I ended up with a plain Penne bland pasta as all beef dishes contain pork!! Very overpriced for bland food without flavours! A fast food burger tastes better than the food in Positano! Service and restaurant deco was good.. but that is it really!

Great food, amazing atmosphere but terrible service, not knowing what a house red was, bringing our starters with our mains, felt like she didn’t know anything about the menu. But the food was amazing would recommend the pizza as the dough is perfection

My wife and I took friends for lunch 01/04/23, the food was good but the service pretty average. I had to approach the bar twice for a drink order. My wife took her friend for lunch today, again the food good but the service from the staff abysmal. 3 staff sat around all watching videos on their phones, 4 times they were interrupted for service from drinks to Chilli Oil, not good enough with the prices they charge. Owners or Management need to get a grip of poor staff before your reputation goes down the pan. No place for complacency.

The restaurant seems to be closed. The restaurant wasn't open when I was here last week.

I rang at the beginning of January to book a table for my daughters 16th birthday on February 10th. I booked for 24 people and paid a deposit of £5pp. In the week leading up to our visit I had a phone call on the Monday asking for my preorders as they were not asked for when I booked. I quickly got all the orders in and emailed them to the address I was given. I didn’t receive a reply to my email to confirm so tried to ring the restaurant all day Wednesday and Thursday with no answer. I started to panic. So I tried again on the Friday and finally someone answered. She said the head chef had been unwell so they couldn’t open and today was the first day they had reopened. She checked that they had my preorders and said everything was fine and they were looking forward to seeing us tomorrow. At 1.45pm on the day of my booking I received a phone call to say that unfortunately there was a problem in the kitchen and they would have to cancel my booking. The bloke then went on to say how much business they would be losing this weekend blah blah blah, at no point did he say sorry! At no point did he offer any kind of compensation. It was only when I asked about having my deposit refunded did he mention that and proceeded to tell me he would do it when the venue was back open. That’s no good to me!! He asked me why I was so angry??!! He told me there was nothing he could do!! If there was a genuine problem in the kitchen surely they’d know about it in the morning when they were prepping for their 12pm opening?? So why was it nearly 2pm before they rang?? This whole situation was handled so badly and with no apology offered by him. It wasn’t a meal for 2 that was being cancelled (although that would still be out of order) it was a table of 24 who were celebrating a special birthday!! I then had to try to book somewhere that evening so my daughter wasn’t left without a celebration meal with her family. Thankfully we found somewhere and we had a fabulous night! Judging by previous reviews on here we might have had a lucky escape with it being cancelled! I can’t review the food but I can review the attitude and lack of professionalism by the individual that I had to deal with! I think he might need a refresher course in customer relations!

Risotto,,, appalling,, gluppy and thick certainly wasnt creamy so sad wanted this to be a fabulous meal. Decor fab, front off house guy/ bar man/waiter fab. Very expensive and over priced.

Went here for lunch today. Although prices were quite high, this was reflected in the quality of the delicious food. The pasta was amazing, clearly homemade and cooked perfectly. The chef even came out to check we enjoyed, as it was quiet. Customer service was perfect, and was a brilliant balance between relaxed and efficient. Would recommend and will be going back!

Nice place and food was fine. Unfortunately the fire alarm was jammed on for about 20 minutes which somewhat spoiled the ambience.

Disappointed! The staff were not very friendly, attentive or welcoming. The Rosemary potatoes were undercooked and there was no apology, however, on request they were replaced for an alternative. The food was OK. The chicken with mushrooms was tasty.

Food over priced for what it is

Had a meal 18th Nov for our Anniversary...so having eaten there before, my wife's food was disappointing. It was quiet, so there couldn't be an excuse of how busy they were. The starters we had were great, olives and Calamari as was my pizza, however my wife's lasagne was burn't and bone bone dry with very little filling. The tomato sauce was around the sides but that didn't help. It looked liked it had been sitting in an oven all day. There was almost no filling. I told the server, who asked if we wanted more sauce but we declined as that would not help how dry it was. He said he would tell the chef and that was the last we heard of it. No apology.

A nice place, food is a bit expensive for what it is. The staff were friendly and were happy to help with the doors when I got there and when I was leaving. The table they gave us wasn't ideal as it was difficult to get my wheelchair in but they moved the table a bit to give me some extra space to manoeuvre my wheelchair.

What a joy to visit restaurants like this! A great team! Exquisite!

Was unsure based on previous reviews, but decided to give the restaurant a-go for our group of eight. We weren’t disappointed and had a great evening. We were asked pre-select our dishes and were happy to do so. The food was delicious, served on time, and the waiters polite and attentive. The restaurant even telephoned to let us know we’d left something behind. Will definitely return.

Appalling service - it was very slow and when drinks/food finally arrived some orders were wrong (despite us pre-ordering in advance)! When we broached the issue with the team at the bar, we were actually laughed at by two wait staff. When we finally were able to speak to the manager, he was rude and didn't apologise. It was a special night for us and because we were in there for two and a half hours, we missed out on subsequent plans. It's such a shame as the location and interior is great - the food is average but overall it's let down by slow service and incredibly rude staff who desperately need customer service training. What a horrid experience. We were a table of seven, including 2 children at what was a very quiet time. There could not have been more than 9-13 people in Positanos last night. The food took painfully long to be served. The starters were terrible! My children ordered the calamari and it was undercooked. There seemed to have been no batter used and it was simply dipped in oil. It was chewy and looked dreadfully unapetizing. We also order the artisan bread and the Bruscuito. The Bruscuito portion for one person was piled on to a single piece of bread. The artisan bread was very dry and again very disappointing. We had a 19:30 reservation and the mains were not served until 21:00. The mains were served cold and we had to return 2 of the them as they were not as described on the menu. 2 of the dishes were unseasoned pasta with a carbonara sauce without any panchatta. There was no offer of customer satisfaction. When asked if anything could be done about the bill, maybe provide an overall discount for the inconvenience caused, and the fact that 2 of the 7 guests had to reutn their meals after waiting about 2 hours, we were told no. An overall awful experience and we will never go there again.

So, called and got the message: leave your number, Ciao. Twice. Obvs busy. Turned up and asked for a table for two midweek at 6:30 pm. So accommodating; they were busy with pre-booked larger groups, but fitted us in if we could order quickly. We did. A nice rosé to slide in and relax. The food was delicious. I had Chicken with mushrooms; sooo good! Nothing overdone. Broccoli and carrots perfetto al dente. Sauce and chicken so well done. Dressed side salad like they know how to compliment a meal. Compliments to Capo Cuoco! Have potatoes, not chips, cos you get lovely baked slices in skins! So good. Enjoy!

Welcoming, friendly all round wonderful experience. Ryan giggs looking waiter, bubbly blonde gorgeous main chef. Chatty and embracing. My first time in Wales and they tolerated me drunk! They made my evening, made me laugh, surprised me with great food and even put up with me after closing hours. I gave 4 stars at first; I never give 5, but moved it to 5 as I typed: a one off, after 5 years of reviews. The food was great, but the whole experience made me feel genuinely happy. In a semi lockdown, drunk n removed from the snobs next door. This restaurant was welcoming, inspiring and what I expected from Wales. Surrounded by rain clouds and storms, but uplifting, surprising and worth the visit. Food was great, the staff were the best. I owe them a much better tip I had promised. Xxx

Went there this evening for a Christmas function No decorations / no Christmas atmosphere Does Italy celebrate Christmas ???? Obviously not! Shocking service, arrogant waiter ( 40’s balding ) however a lovely waitress tried her best to keep our spirits up Shauna ( you are too good to work in this mediocre establishment ). There are far better Italian restaurants in Swansea with far superior service . The food was ok .. that’s all we can say . Our advice : look elsewhere !!!! The old adage never complain but Never go back !!!!

Visited as part of a group. No Covid-19 protocol in place. Pre ordered meal list sent on Monday, we visited Saturday. A number of meals and desserts were not available despite the pre order. Table was booked for 7.30, food arrived at around 8.40. Food was just OK. Nothing special. Service was poor and being served gin in a warm glass really made my decision not to go again. Would not recommend.

Food is nice but the service oh my. Absolutely dreadful. Drinks took an age, no organisation either. There were only 3 tables to attend.

My lasagne had about 8/9 layers of pasta and very little to no sauce or meat onions etc And was size of about a deck of cards ..for £15 a plate with no chips or salad was expecting little better than this ..staff were very nice ...won't go back here though 100%

Lovely restaurant, very friendly staff and amazing food. This is by far the best pizza i've had in Swansea. I highly recommend this place!

Absolutely wonderful place. The waitress from Bari was brilliant. The fact the owner is from Napoli means you get authentic pizza. This place would make huge money if in London but great to find it in Swansea.

The food was delicious however, there was one item on the menu that we wanted and wasn't available. Also, when we came to order dessert they said there would be a 30 minute wait for the Nutella pizzas which we didn't want to wait. I had the sea bass which was delicious.

Pick up Takeaway. Very overpriced for not very good food. Pizzas were very average, tiny portions, 2 tiny pieces of garlic bread for £5. Only positive was the Nutella doughballs. £60+ for 3 pizzas, 3 portions of doughballs and 1 portion of garlic bread. Will not be going back.

Staff rude, no masks worn, drinks were warm and came after food. Absolutely not impressed, would 100% not recommend

All servers were not wearing masks, they were slow to take orders and looked like they were overworked and extremely short on staff. Food took so long to arrive and when it did it tasted frozen and was nothing special, not worth the time or price. Arrived at 7pm and the kitchen had closed by the time we wanted to order desert due to the slow service, unimpressed overall AVOID

Food nice enough but why on earth was our server the only member of staff wearing a mask? I came with my colleagues (all NHS nurses) who have spent the past 18 months wearing PPE - what could of owner/ manager thinks it’s acceptable to break the rules ? Totally unacceptable.

Waited 30 mins to order food. Took ages to come. Drink was wrong. Brushetta was bland. Asked for penne pasta as what the menu stated wasn't on the ipad. Got spaghetti instead. It was very hard. Not Al dente just hard. Pizza was undercooked. Sauce was pretty much just tomato puree. Unfortunately won't be coming again. Will stick with the pizza Boyz for a nice pizza outside of Italy

Food is amazing, though last night was quite slow service and not complete we had to keep asking for the rest of our order, and cutlery, but you can't fault the dishes, tasty, and good portion size...
