Posh Fish in Oxford

I love this place. The staff are the highlight of this place personally for me. They care about each customer and are very attentive. All the food I have tried so far was always delicious and portions are very generous. The place is always sparkling clean. Definitely one of the best places in Oxford.

Ordered on line for collection, food was ready when we arrived, staff super helpful and even carried to car (large order). Portion sizes are very generous, small portion is probably the size of other shops large portions, one portion of regular chips was enough for 2, fish well cooked and tasty.

Bones! On the expensive side when it comes to fish and chips however the portion sizes are generous. First time sitting in and when we have ordered before we have found fish bones in our fish, 3 or 4 every time. Thinking it was just bad luck the times we had take-out. However when we visited we found the fish to have 13, yes 13 bones. Raised to a member of staff who didn't seem too bothered or apologetic. Only raised as I thought the manager would like to know and re-train whoever does the prep work. Should never find bones if the prep person knows their stuff and does a thorough job. I hope the feedback will help improve standards going forward.

We stopped at Posh Fish when visiting Oxford, and it was a great decision. As a family we ordered a childs fish meal, kids sausage meal, and then adult fish meal and adult battered sausage meal with a couple of drinks. The staff were friendly, the food was amazing and the price was reasonable too. We all recommend Posh Fish!!

Good to know they had a halal version of the food. We only couldn’t eat the curry sauce. Good friendly service and clean. HUGE cods and crispy batter

Had been buying chips for years and of late the standards are dropping and this last Sunday 18th August we had the worst chips,dry and testless unfortunately we had already driven out of Headington when we started eating. Are there new owners it seems there are new people

I'm so glad I got the Regular sized Fish and Chips it was awesome and plenty. Place was clan the staff was very helpful and the food was fantastic. I will definitely go back!!

Had large fish and regular chips last night, worst fish I’ve ever had, was all batter as you can see from picture any fish that was there was dry and chewy. Would not recommend

I ordered a sausage and chips, standard but well done! As a visitor from London, it was nice to see a traditional fish and chip shop. The bad: The way the manager (older woman) spoke to the young man at the til was absolutely shocking. He was ordered to collect something at the back in a highly condescending tone, and the atmosphere was immediately tense. I actually stood outside to avoid embarrassment for the young man. Expensive, awful fish. We ordered 2 large cod, the fish must have been cooked hours ago, dried up and leathery with hardly any fish left in the batter. Chips were OK, soggy as usual. Don't waste your money here, if they're prepared to serve fish they know is well beyond eating they don't deserve your money. Will not be returning, suggest you don't go at all.

Had kids fishn chios. It was just the right quantity for me and very tasty ,in fact the most tasty fish and chips I've had for ages. Mushy peas were nice too.

We were visiting the area and are big fans of fish and chips so we gave this place a try. We ordered 3 orders of regular sized fries (chips for all of you from the UK) for 5 people and not only were they delicious, we had leftovers for days. 2 small fried cod were enough to feed at least 3 people. Everything was hot and delicious. The only thing I would request was more salt and vinegar. We went back again just a few days later. Would definitely recommend.

Got a takeaway fish and chips . What a rip off .over £3 for small chips and you need a mortgage for a piece of fish. Shop around you can get a lot cheaper in Headington area .everything they sell is totally overpriced compared to other establishments kfc round the corner is cheaper.

Unfortunately we just paid £44 for our dinner 2night for 4 people and the Fish was totally cold inside considering that I called literally when home which took 3 mins to our door and them insisting that it was all cooked fresh while we waited. Wrong ! The onions rings were and chips but so to say NOT your fish. In paper trays that should of held the heat and be steaming when opened but was not at all. Shame its ruined our return to our local Fish and Chip shop. Its a shame 1 visit can do this. The large fish In 2 of the portions was not 1 large but 2 pieces put together. I did call them twice who said come back in with them and they would look at them !!

I must have caught them on an off day. Usually a bag of chips is generous for the price, recently increased by 25p to 3.25, a large increase. (May 24) This time the same portions, however, not fresh fried or hot, more baked like they had been fried previously maybe the previous day because they were 'crispy' on the edge softer on the inside. I think they were warmed up from previous day. Texture very odd made worse by being luke warm, not pleasant at all. Had half dozen then they went in the bin. Also always lots of staff but unfortunately english is a bit of a struggle. Used to pop in when visiting JR, but will have to look for an alternative. High % increase, cutting corners and luke warm reheated chip spoiled the experience. Shame because they used to be very tasty.

Very expensive a small bag of chips £3.25p.This is a disgusting price for a small bag hate to think how much for fish and chips . SHOP AROUND CHEAPER EVERYWHERE ELSE .

Passing through and decided to buy some chips, unfortunately they were under cooked, not edible.

This was second visit to Posh Fish, the food was amazing again huge portions the toasted cheese sandwich was the best ever, the kebab is just something else, then you have the burger which was also outstanding, the table service is excellent very friendly staff, recommend that you go.

Food was ok…both the service was terrible. We were ignored for about 5-10 minutes while standing at the counter. Then the guy angrily came over and literally punched the computer right in front of us while yelling at someone in the back. Then asked for our order…I was so thrown off by the experience it made it difficult to enjoy the food honestly.

The blonde kid with curly hair came out of the kitchen and verbally abused me for buying 2 breakfasts to go he disnt know that one of them was for my dying grandmother as it was her favourite food

Very disappointed on Valentine’s Day, the lamb is like paper and not cooked correctly, old meat. Ruined my Valentine’s Day dinner .

This place was absolutely lovely—delicious, flaky fish, crisp batter, hot chips, savory curry sauce and deeply satisfying mushy peas! One of the few places in Oxford I walked away from truly content and happy. Also, the staff was really warm and kind. I’m looking forward to visiting again!

I had a medium chips from here on Thursday lunchtime. They were a little undercooked. Staff very friendly, portion huge. I might try the fish next time I’m passing as the other reviews are excellent. Maybe my undercooked chips were a one off.

Awesome fish and chips! My girlfriend and I recently moved to Oxford and were recommended posh fish and it didn't not disappoint. Excited to return.

It's a pity I didn't take a photo. But after a long, distressing and disappointing day. My meal here was excellent. I can honestly say that it's probably the best fish and chips I've ever tasted. The portion of small cod was massive and the chips were divine. I live in London. But anytime I'm in Oxford I'm heading straight there for another delicious meal.

Ordered a fish and chip supper for our club AGM, the food was promptly cooked for our collectors arrival. Everyone was very impressed with both the quality and value for money. I can not recommend highly enough. Looking forward to next years AGM. As we shall definitely be back.

Great Breakfast reasonable price

I’m staying in Oxford whilst my husband is in hospital. After leaving him last night I thought I’d get some chips to take back to my B&B I googled and this chip shop came up so I went there. The prices were quite expensive compared to where I live, however I really fancied them so I had the small bag of chips for £3.00. I went straight back to my B&B which was two minutes away from the chip shop… to sit and enjoy them. When I opened the bag they did not look very appetising. They were a white/grey colour and very limp. Absolutely none of them were crispy or had a nice golden colour to them. They tasted horrible, the only way I can describe them is if you can imagine just boiling the chips in water and then draining them and putting them in a bag as a portion of chips. They left a horrible residue in my mouth like a layer mash with out any of the creamiest to it. You could not taste that they supposedly had been deep fried. We travel quite a bit in England and I can honestly say I have never ever tasted anything like it before. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just me that found the chips repulsive so I asked another guest at my B&B and then the proprietor of the B&B and both of them found the chips to be as I’ve described them. It’s such a shame because I was so looking forward to my tea last night and going to a posh chippy I thought I would get the best i was and am very 😔 disappointed!

This was before Covid. The best fish and chip shop in England and I've travelled to a lot of places over the years. Very generous portions. Good prices. Friendly staff. Sit in or take away. Now. Prices have gone up. The £6 chicken Kebab is now over £10 Worst change is that the chicken kebab had about 30% slices of lamb. If I wanted lamb,I would have ordered it, bur I ordered chicken. Not happy.

I’m pregnant and craving vinegar and I asked for extra vinegar. Posh fish did not disappoint. I LOVED EVERY BITE. The donner meat was thick and juicy, not dried out like other places. Such amazing quality and top tier customer service. Highly recommend

Won’t be coming back! After years of coming to posh fish this will be the last, if not for the cold food I just ate but the far from great customer service as well. Ive always ordered a small chips from here because that’s been plenty big enough for 3 of us (posh fish are known fur their big portions!) but on ordering this evening I was shocked to see the £3 portion was nearly half the size it was last time I came, it was roughly the size of a walkers grab bag of crisps and only half full, I questioned this and was told it’s always that size, I know this not to be true and one of the gentleman behind the counter agreed with me that this had never been a portion size they’ve done, I asked how they think they can charge more money for less food! I know inflation happens but you can’t make your portions smaller and charge more and expect to have happy customers. I said I’ll need to buy some more then, but they threw a few more chips in a bag but were obviously very unhappy about it which made me very uncomfortable. The rest of the food was cold in just the 5mins it took me to get home the large cod was mostly cold chewy batter and the fish was grey at the ends, and on my way out I was told very loudly and passive aggressively to “have a good evening” by the blonde haired English lady who works there, I suspect she’s also the one who likes to respond to negative reviews with something more to say. Very disappointing.

Since being here, in the saddest of circumstances whilst being at John Radcliffe hospital with our daughter; posh chips has been our go to. They're hospitality, they're kindness they've shown (even when their rushed off their feet)to us. Truly a wonderful little shop. And their portions sizes! Deary me. Probably best value for money South of Birmingham. Food is extremely good too. Always hot, mostly have to let it chill out for a bit whilst it's still sizzling. Sure will miss this place when we finally get discharged for her. Thanks! Jamie

It was with great surprise that I was surprised by the rude way in which the owners of the establishment treated me. When I tried to order my food, as I didn't respond immediately, I was ignored by the cashier who was the owner. Seeing the next chashier empty, I tried to place my order there, with who, to my amazement, had a truly shameful attitude, when placing my order and having the card in hand to make the payment, the lady who introduced herself as the owner's daughter, refused to serve me because I didn't want to pay a transport bag (20p) preferring only the packaging (which would be more than fine), after my reluctance to accept her demand, the lady began to ignore me, canceling my order and responding to new customers, in a calm and I tried to talk to her and ask if the person was being truthful by ignoring me. Their arrogant attitude meant that we left there with a bad image of the place, the food I admit looked good, but after such malicious treatment I have no intention of returning, customer service is simply non-existent, a public place treating their customers that way?? It is situations like this that give the English service a bad name.

Such a nice! Such posh, very fish! Don’t go here for posh spice, but vinegar and salt available for chips and fish especially on such Friday when fish has special fish day in Oxford. Not just fish for posh people, but also for chips liking individual people. Very much recommend for party peepz who want experience the English Friday. #yolo

Excellent Fish & Chips! Very generous portions. Admittedly expensive but it was worth it as a treat. Not greasy at all and utterly delicious. When asking for directions we got several comments saying it was great. We were not disappointed.

We went for a sit down meal on a Friday afternoon. There was a pleasant welcome and a wide selection. We had the cod roe with jacket potato and salad; and the double halloumi burger. Both were delicious, washed down with a cold beer. Would return.

Spontaneously picked up a fried fish with tartar sauce. Simply delicious. 10£ sounds like a lot at first, but it was enough for two people. Fish is of great quality.

The cod and chips are great and the portion sizes are huge. The fish is sourced ethically, the so prices are pretty eye-watering compared to other Chippys.

I wanted to leave some feedback Been coming to posh fish for some years now and always had a fairly decent consistent meal However after having cod and chips I had nothing good to say! The chips were hard and dry even the portion for you guys was small (thankfully as less to bin!) The cod was very oily, batter wasn’t crispy at all

Quite simply the second worst fish & chips I’ve ever had in my life. The fish was grey inside of the thick, tasteless, grease dripping batter, the chips were like warm and also tasteless and the battered sausage was low quality and also had a thick layer of that disgusting oil drenched coating. I had a couple of mouthfuls of the £16 meal and binned the rest. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but I won’t ever be going back to find out…

Used to be the best breakfast in Oxford now it's overpriced serving the cheapest food imaginable. They Won't allow you to change items on the breakfast because it confuses the chefs but they allow you to create your own at an additional charge, which miraculously doesn't confuse the chefs.

The food was really good. Scampi isn't the same as in the US, chunks of shrimp fried in a crunchy batter. Good but not what we expected. Jacket potatoes with mushrooms was yummy. Fish and chips, delicious, steak and kidney pie was excellent. Definitely a great easy dinner spot.

Brought a kebab, when i opened the box, I scooped out 3 desert spoons worth of fat! The pita bread wasn't cut open or even warmed up, just dripped with fat, like a sponge in water. Since new owners took over, the quality of the food has gone rapidly down hill. This used to be a takeaway that once won awards for the quality of its food and customer service, the best in Oxford! Now it has to be one of the worst.

An absolute beauty! A must try, you will not be disappointed! My family all visit here when in the area, it is a must visit and a yummy treat to look forward to. I think this place has great customer service and the food is amazing. I have been to this place a few times and the portion sizes which are very generous compared to the price which is really reasonable is amazing and if your around the area I would recommend popping in as you can not go wrong with this place.

Went to Posh fish yesterday for takeaway large fish and chips for my Sons birthday the fish although was describe as large was a average fillet covered in thick uncooked batter basically too.much batter this had been dipped.in the batter and put straight in the fryer without letting the excess batter off before frying So onto the chips these were.greasy alongside the fish but in addition not cooked.for long enough I would not recommend anybody to go to this fish and chip shop as the name.relates nothing to the food produced no attention to any detail as to the simple task.of deep.frying fish and chips

Since covid the place gave up but since then it was assumed that it's under management and never opened to what is on the door so I can't go back there after ten minute travel to upheaval of wimelstraw only to get and it's closed THREE TIMES!!

Oh my god, one of the best fish and chips we’ve had in years!! Popped in on the way back from the Nuffield after visiting, even though it was was nearly 8pm and they were busy with take aways the staff were more than happy for us to eat in. We ordered a large cod, chips and curry sauce, it was more than enough to feed two never seen a cod that size. The batter was light, fluffy and golden, chips were also mountainous and excellent. Staff very friendly nothing seemed too much trouble. Thank you!!! Definitely going back.

I would not recommend people dining here. The old grumpy lady in the cashier has no manners at all, She is yelling and being bossy like she own everyone and the store. My friends ordered here for a takeaway but the grumpy woman is yelling and making a scene on us to go out as we just ordered a takeaway. She could have ask us politely and not make a scene like she is being cynical and no one call her out like it has been considered as a normal thing. Me and my friends just decided to go away as we do not want to be treated like that! This is very alarming!! Horrible experience!!!
