Great little restaurant, food is always of a high standard, home made chips, really yummy. Everything is freshly cooked, so expect a wait. Great atmosphere, hosts Fernando and Catherine,so friendly and welcoming. We were fifteen ladies, ther were no complaints, everyone had a great time.

Small restaurant Not the best menu if you are vegetarian but fish dish was excellent. Good friendly atmosphere and live music. Would return.

Great toast & hot chocolate in the morning. Proper bread. have had an omlette/chips here packed with ham or cheese or mushrooms. Staff are great here, chatty & just, well, nice. Never been for an evening meal but menu looks interesting.

Went here for the 4th time.A big International Group in before us so a little bit of a wait for food...but a great lively atmosphere!The clams,cod and chicken were great...and the owner is friendly and funny!Great value for money....and for those looking for authentic Portuguese food in Merthyr...a wonderful food option!If you haven’t been give it a try...you won’t be disappointed!

Title says it all. Went for a meal with three friends for my friends birthday and had a great night. Fernardo (front of house) took care of us and even brought out a very tasty piece of cake and sang happy birthday. Very thoughtful. Would recommend and will definitely be returning.

A surprise lunch out for Mother’s Day and as always a great welcome and excellent service at Portugalles. Food always freshly cooked, Excellent starters and mains choice and desserts extremely yummy (and such good prices). Often has free entertainment and is a great place to celebrate with friends, as a couple or with family; or even just drop in for a coffee and a snack/cake. Catherine and Fernando are so friendly and look after everyone, nothing is too much trouble for them.

Been coming here now a little while and initially I came alone or with the wife but now I am not allowed to come unless my daughters come too. The place is so welcoming and the food is fantastic. It is great to be able to have little restaurants such as this so close to home (I can walk home after a drink) and have such good quality food. Sagres is nice too.

We went for lunch on 24th of December around 12pm, the place was empty so I asked to the lady (owner?) if they were serving food, which she promptly said to look at the menu that she would ask the cooker. We sat down and looked over the menu. After 5 minutes she came to us but we hadn't decided what to have so she left. It took her another 20 minutes to come back and she was visibly distressed and told us that they were very busy that afternoon and we would have to wait a long time for the food to be ready. My girlfriend asked if she wanted us to leave but she said no. We started asking for food (breakfast rolls) and she looked very annoyed at this point but took our order anyway. My girlfriend asked if we would have to wait long for the food since we were only having some rolls and the lady said yes, because they were very busy getting ready for dinner. So we decided to leave. My point is she should've told us since the beginning that they were unable to serve food at that time because they were busy preparing for the afternoon.

However they have just recently halved the size of their take away hot chocolate but have kept the price of £1.80p, that's just not fair. Other than this the staff running it are really nice people & meals are tasty.

Chicken skewers were incredibly succulent, fab atmosphere, welcoming staff - will definitely go again!

As always a great welcome and excellent service and love the new menu. Food always freshly cooked, desserts yummy and such good prices too. Free entertainment too- a great way to celebrate with friends, as a couple or with family.

Booked for a meal for 3 at 5.30pm. Great pint of Sargres snd very good food. Not a huge range on menu but what there is is very good. Reasonable prices too- the three of us eat and had drinks for £35. Cant fault that!! Went back the following week for snack- that was very good also.

Fabulous food, great atmosphere, most excellent and friendly owner.

Not the biggest place so book a table to avoid disappointment. Very good Portuguese food and well priced. Excellent service, very attentive staff who explained each dish. Busy place definitely worth a visit. Will be booking again.

lovely little cafe/bar. we booked a table for 4 on a Friday evening. The arrival was warm and welcoming with Sagres on tap and superbok in bottles. Ordered the special which was a kebab on a skewer with chicken, peppers and onions and the chefs special sauce which he then barbequed fresh. Stunning meal with real chips aswell which is a bonus. Breads, olives and pate's also for appetisers. Real bonus was the small band playing in the corner felt like we were in Portugal. Overall lovely atmosphere, friendly, amazing food and will definately be returning soon! ~please do visit this lovely little place

Been here a few times now, Fernando the owner is just the best always cheerful and always gives you the best of welcomes.

Highly recommend, traditional Portuguese food the service is excellent and the owner Fernando when above and beyond to meet expectations, for sure recommend and will return many times, thank you portugalles

This is a quaint eatery where you can get a variety of Portuguese meals. Great service and low prices.

Fancy something different? Plenty to chooses from. Cockles in sauce were delicious. Great ham/salad sandwich. Nice staff too.

Food is wonderful, especially the pork loin. Owner is great and cheerful; Always have a great experience here.

Had a great few hours here on Saturday with friends. Had some great snacks and a few drinks to wash it down. Staff very friendly. Excellant value for money

Partly Welsh, partly Portuguese eating establishment only been open a few months i think but lovely little place to get your lunch i've found, Clean if basic but serves a few alcoholic drinks too at reasonable prices. Had a ciabatta ham, salad & red onion sandwich here last week it was rammed with delicious 'real' ham not that plastic reformed stuff you can get so often. Haven't had a sit down meal as yet but will do, did share a take away dish of cockles in a tasty sauce here, delicious.
