Porto Douro in Birmingham

First visit to this restaurant, and we were very impressed with the food and the service. Will definitely go there again.

Had a lovely time here. Very busy on a Saturday night. Even though service was a bit slow, the staff were friendly. Lovely Portuguese wine. I would give the cocktails a miss though. Food is delicious and served very hot. Absolutely delicious. Definitely on the pricier side at about £60 pp, but worth it for special occasions. I think the seafood/fish options are better than the meat options after trying both. My only request is that they need live music on the weekend, especially during peak hours. If not that, they need speakers on the other side of the restaurant as the music could only be heard at the bar side. A little bit quiet on the side I was sitting. Great to support local businesses!!

This place is excellent, I was raised in Solihull, I work in restaurants, this is my favourite restaurant in Solihull ever. Authentic Portugese, unique restaurant, amazing food. It may not exactly be cheap but it's great value. The drinks are also unusual in The West Midlands, the genuine article, and just really good. I'd definitely consider going for breakfast or lunch.

I had an amazing dining experience at Porto Douro! The food was really good in both taste and presentation. The waiter Joshua was super nice, well trained and made sure we felt taken care of throughout our meal. It was absolutely a great restaurant if you are looking for dates, celebration or even casual meals. Super recommend!

Makes me want to go back to Lisbon. Seven of us went here for a family dinner this evening. The food was fabulous. The rabbit stew was phenomenal, best I've had in a restaurant. If you love meat on the bone, take a couple of hours to do the rabbit stew justice with a nice bottle of douro ✨ All of us really enjoyed it, the lamb shank also being of note. The senior waiters did all the heavy lifting early in the night with impeccable service, so when they stepped down later in the evening their junior colleagues had a hard act to follow. At least they have excellent role models. Looking forward to coming back

4.5 star place. Only had time for one course. I had the Rabbit stew, excellent. Nice beer. Will definitely go back for a longer visit. I have been back again twice since my first review. Excellent every time. The Chicken stroganoff is recommended as is the lamb shank, by my colleague. Forgot to get photos, I’ll just have to go again 😉

This place is a shambles. We were rushed to leave our table, the noise level was so high we couldn't talk comfortably, and the food was so-so. We will not be returning!!!

Visited with a large group as part of a business trip. The food was excellent. The staff are fantastic and the atmosphere was really good. Difficult to fault this restaurant, well priced great value for money.

Having enjoyed coming to Porto Douro a number of times since they moved to Solihull , we were looking forward to having a breakfast meal. But sadly, this wasn't to be. I ordered the English breakfast, and my wife ordered the vegetarian breakfast. To be honest, our £30.00 meals were a big disappointment. Coffee weak, beans not very good, requested brown toast from menu to they only serve white bread (but it is Portuguese!) We could have gotten the same meal from Weatherspoons for half the price. Please Porto Duro bring your breakfast meals up to the same standard as your lunch and dinner servings.

I loved the quality of service, the food was excellent as always.

Refused to do poached eggs. When I asked where my brown toast was I was told I didn’t order any (Obviously did). Beans were cold. The biggest disappointment was that the coffee is really below par for a place trying to establish itself. Will still try it for an evening meal as I want it to do well, but PLEASE up your coffee game if you want people to return in the AM.

A beautiful meal, everyone enjoyed it. There was 5 adults and 4 children. We have used here since it was in Acocks Green and never had any complaints. Well worth trying

Fab food and service. We were treated to free pastry and wine samples on first night. Was hoping for the same treatment on second visit unfortunately that didn't happen. When tried to go in without booking was told all booked, 1.5hrs later still empty tables. Disappointing.

The food is very flavorsome and fresh, the staff are the best, we would recommend this restaurant 5stars.

Another missed opportunity for Solihull. Underwhelming experience. Poor service and food. Starter was frozen. Main was cheap steak served on a cold plate swimming in resting juices, over cooked (not as ordered) soggy chips. Chicken breast was dry and tough. Lovely atmosphere and interior but let down in every other aspect. Nothing Portuguese about the place. How can you get chicken breast and steak wrong? Won't be returning. The staff were busy taking everyone's money instead of delivering good service.

The food is great and portions are generous, we tried Some appetisers and they were all good but the francesinha was absolute heaven and incredibly rich. The service is good and friendly the manager came and check many times. The place is really well laid out and quite modern but it could get extremely noisy and it’s difficult to have a conversation. We had mojito as a drink and unfortunately it was very bland and almost no alcohol not a deal breaker but certainly you would expect a decent cocktail from a similar place . Overall a great independent addition for the Solihull dining offer.

Nice tasting food but a few items were missing from the seafood platter, which was not told to us. The young waitress dropped a very hot plate onto someone in our party which burnt them and caused blistering on their hand- the dish was re-made and seemed rushed as it didn’t resemble the first plate that arrived. The staff were very apologetic but we were shocked that when it came to the final bill nothing had been revised or complimentary. Expensive considering all of the above.

Really disappointed. This was booked for my friends 60th birthday celebration. I advised the restaurant on the app when booking and phoned to ensure they knew of her birthday. I asked if they would acknowledge her birthday with a cake and candle or something similar and they assured me that they would. After eating what I call an average steak, I waited for something to celebrate her birthday and nothing arrived. We were then asked to hurry up and leave, after spending £200 as they wanted our table back!!!! Disappointed to say the least. I did tell my friend what was supposed to have happened :(

Very tasty food, good service, atmosphere and amazing singer. Special mention to Magda, Juan and the young lady too. Wish we can have a restaurant like this in London, where we live. The owner is very attentive and is also offering you delicious complimentary port wine and natas. And not to forget, the place is spotless. Will definitely return when we go again to Birmingham.

Looking forward to our meal as it appeared to be a lively place. The staff were great , very friendly and welcoming. However I have to judge it on food , which was very disappointing. I may have ordered the wrong starter in chicken gizzard which was grissly and over powering in chilli etc. But my main course of salted cod was so over done , it was inedible. Shame . Won't be coming back

Wow. This is the best restaurant in Solihull by far. The food is so next level. The restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere and we were treated to a fab singer tonight who has a fab voice. Harvey was our server who was fantastic and a real credit to the restaurant. the food is generous and delicious and fantastic value for money. The wine is reasonably priced (We had the Portuguese red which was delicious and only £23 a bottle). I would highly recommend the restaurant to friends. The owner stopped at our table to chat to us which was really appreciated. He was very friendly and welcoming. If you would like a fantastic meal with authentic home cooked flavours in a lovely atmosphere then Porto Douro is for you!

First timer, but I am definitely going back 🌟 Had the Cozido à portuguesa, a traditional dish that was so authentic it took me back to Portugal. The serving staff were attentive and friendly. Worthy of the five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

11Sep '24. Recently moved from nearby Acocks Green. We booked for dinner but this place is open for breakfast, lunch, teas and dinner. Great new addition to Solihull centre restaurant scene. Good interesting menu, excellent service in a modern style environment with great atmosphere. Generous portions served by knowledgeable staff. Overall a delight.

Live music, amazing food with huge portion's, and great service. Highly recommend. Rafael was our Portuguese speaking server and got our order right, despite our group of 5 changing our minds multiple times! Rafael, you were fabulous, thank you

Visited with family as a birthday bash and wasn't disappointed. I had a steak with an egg on top which I always find hard to resist and the dessert which was caramel topped was beyond delicious.

We walked past this restaurant so many times and it always looked nice. I was looking forward to this dinner but our experience here was a complete disappointment. The drink (caipirinha) was terrible. There was no sugar there at all. I had one sip and didn't touch it again. They forgot about our starter. The main course (seafood stew and the rabbit) were absolutely bland, not a gram of salt in them. And so were the vegetables that we ordered as a side. They were just boiled potatoes and carrots (no salt, butter or anything else). I wanted to order coffee and dessert but we decided not to risk it. The interior and the menu look nice but that's about it. We will not be going here again.

We visited this restaurant earlier this year when it was located in Acock's Green and I posted the following positive review "A hidden gem! A great little restaurant in an unexpected location. Terrific menu choice and good quality food. Service was slightly disappointing but friendly enough. Good atmosphere overall although live music was quite loud at times and made table conversation difficult. We will certainly be returning before too long". Last month, we visited the restaurant in its new Solihull location. I was one of a party of seven. My meal was eventually served to me more than 20 minutes after main courses had been presented to all of my fellow guests. The chicken Piri Piri was extremely dry and tasteless as though it had been left under a heater for the 20 minutes. After the main courses were finished, glasses of port were brought to our table. The server spilled two glasses down the back of my neck and onto my beige trousers! An apology was offered and I was given paper towels to clean up. I chose to go to the rest room to do this and when I returned I found that my unfinished drink had been taken away! All in all, the evening was a disaster for me although 4 of the other 6 guests at our table were satisfied with their meals. I was not offered anything to compensate for the drink spillage etc. The following day I sent an email to the owners. No reply! A week later I sent a further gentle reminder inviting their comments. No reply so far! It is now 3 weeks since our visit and it is clear that the restaurant has no intention of replying. Contrary to what I said in my earlier review, I very much doubt that we will be returning to this venue.

The food is as good as they were in Acocks Green before they moved. However, the service really dropped a lot. They just wanted us to finish quicker. They only kept asking if we have finished, although we just spent 1.5hours for our dinner. They came to our table 4 times asking if we have finished, even though our food is just half finished only. They used to serve Portugal egg tart on the house when they were in Acocks Green but now they said it was finished. Same as the complementary port wine, we need to go asking for it instead of asking and serving us after dinner. The staff service is inefficient and not responsive. I asked for extra cutlery and plates they forgot and need to wait long time to get another staff to serve I don’t think I will go back again. Really disappointed….

We had dinner at Porto Douro tonight for my mom’s birthday. I have remarked in the reservation that it was a birthday dinner but nothing was prepared for the occasion, while the table next to us was served Portuguese custard tarts for their birthday celebration. We were not served any Port wine either, it was our third time there so we know it’s a norm to serve Port wine at the end of the meal. It was a disappointing experience overall.

First time we have eaten here and it was excellent. The staff were all lovely and friendly. Our meal was first class. A special thank you to Harvie who looked after us. Harvie was very efficient and happy to help us with our choices. Thank you for a great time.

Tried out Porto Douro for the first time and they didn't disappoint! Beautiful bar / restaurant with friendly, attentive staff. We were served by Jordash on the bar who was great. Always met with a smile and great drinks, we will definitely be coming back soon!

Excellent late lunch with a good friend. Lovely welcome and sat at a window table. Harvey our waiter was excellent. Looked after us, topped up our wine ans water and gave recommendations. I had the fish stew which was served with warm bread to mop up the juices. Took me back to having dinner on the beach in Portugal. Had the trio of desserts and wow 👌. Will be definitely coming again and would strongly recommend.

Delighted they have opened this large, beautifully decorated restaurant. Went for lunch today. 3 ate off the fixed price lunch menu (ridiculously cheap plus just £2 extra for 1/2 pint of beer or small wine) and I went off the a la carte. Food was sensational, service perfect. Can't recommend enough!

Great dining experience in Porto Douro. Tried their lunch menu which just launched today, around £14 for 3 course or £12 for 2 courses. Good variety on choice of starter, menu & dessert. Professional on food quality & service. I had the fried chicken breast served with rice & a bowl of salad as main. The chicken was juicy (not dry) n so delicious as I think the chef had well marinaded it before cooked. The cake of day was strawberry cake and portion was big. Plus they have offered complimentary Portuguese egg tarts & shot of port wine as courtesy. Got my stomach well filled. The restaurant environment is spacious, comfortable, very clean & elegant. Last but not least, the manager Yaji & Jessica who managed our table very well with professional & friendly service.

Lovely looking restaurant Sadly service was severely lacking Waited 15 minutes for one of our 4 starters to arrive. No apologies for delay Then after starters cleared we were told one of the main courses has sold out.. Again, no apologies When food arrived no sides came with them, waited 5 minutes after having to request them all And then ordered a bottle of sauvignon and they run out as well Food wasn't so good that id come back any time soon No gesture offered for the really poor service

Went last night, it looks and feels good but the experience wasn’t great…. We had one starter missing, had to ask for extra drinks every time, mains were out of stock after we had ordered, wine was out of stock, our sides for our mains were missing and didn’t get arrive until after we had eaten. Shame as it looks smart, menu looks fab, I think their execution lets them down, new restaurant so I hope they sort it out but I wouldn’t recommend going there for a few weeks until they do……

Everything was incredible, it was like having a little bit of home outside of Portugal, the food was wonderful and the service was spectacular!! Thank you so much for making my birthday even more special!!

We arrived with our one year old daughter thinking she wouldn't be very welcome as it's a very posh looking restaurant. We couldn't have been more wrong! Every single member of staff couldn't have been any more attentive and accommodating. Service was brilliant, food was absolutely beautiful! Would 100% recommend.

Fabulous seafood platter - amazing food. Would thoroughly recommend!

First time we have been here despite being on our doorstep so to speak. We had francescinha each and a bottle of wine Wednesday afternoon. Delightful ambience friendly owner and staff , lovley food will defiantly be returning for the fish and some Portuguese beer.

We have been to this establishment before, but yesterday was a first at their new premises. The new venue doesn't lose any of the magic of the original venue, but it is twice the size. The quality of food is top class and the prices are very reasonable. We were served by a very professional young man called Chaba. He took our order and listed all of our requirements and ensured that our experience was one to remember. I would fully recommend that you try this restaurant and hope that you have Chaba serving you.

The real taste of Porto! The food was absolutely amazing, the Tabua Do Mar was delicious, all the seafood on the platter was cooked to perfection! The Bitoque Porto Douro was also amazing, the ribeye steak was beautifully cooked and seasoned really well. The portions are big, so it’s really good value for money, and they serve Super Bock beer 😁. I would 100% recommend coming!

Best Portuguese Cod meal I’ve had in the UK, even though it was not on the menu but catered a delicious bacalhau a lagareiro, excelente service & presentation & a wonderful ambiance

We went on Mother’s Day with my 92 year old mum and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious from the Portuguese bread and olives to a range of fantastic mains and superb desserts. I love the complimentary Portuguese tarts and white port at the end of the meal. This was my second visit and I will definitely be going again. The atmosphere was amazing - we had such a laugh. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Well worth the visit.

What a fabulous little find! My partner and I came for lunch on a whim, and were more than pleasantly surprised. José and Renaldo were superb waiters and hosts, the food was life changing and we were treated to vibey live music. Definitely would recommend to anyone in the area!

Visited Porto Douro this past weekend for dinner with my Portuguese husband. We’d heard some good things from the community but were overall disappointed. The food was very average with not much flavour and when my husband spoke to the manager (Fernando) he was very rude and abrupt. The servers were lovely but due to the manager’s manners and the flavourless food, we will not be returning.

This restaurant had been recommended but the experience we had was very poor. My husband complained his cod was hard and was offered a plate to put the hard pieces on . My lamb had no sauce as advertised,the chips were cold and the rice arrived 10mims after the lamb and my drink never arrived at all. We did complain but it was not really addressed. We paid the bill and left . would not return.

Delicious food, seafood tastes fresh, flavoursone soup, crunchy bread, fluffy chips. I was really surprised that the seafood platters were under £20 each! We tried the mussels and limpets which I've not seen anywhere else before. Sadly they were out of octopus that night. We were each given a complementary pastel de nata at the end. Amazing value for money!! Had so much we took away the rest and it tasted just as amazing reheated the next day. Will definitely visit again.

Worst restaurant, waste of money

That's how it is... so much noise you can't speak, music that represents the Douro...🇵🇹 "kizomba", children's menu with drink and ice cream (which wasn't even offered) for the drink I paid 2 x, after being ignored 2 hours waiting for the tabua do mar (coming from lidl)😂 10 minutes after my husband's francesinha. For English it's good, you have no idea what you eat but for Portuguese..... Almost £7 for pears drunk must be in champagne for the price😂. I didn't take a photo of the dessert because it came out early🤭 Good luck for the business.

I'm not one to give bad reviews but this time i couldn't leave without speaking. I heard about this Portuguese gem in Acocks Green and me and my partner decided to give it a try before the year ended. Sadly for us it didn't go well as we didn't had much attention given to us and took a while to get our first drinks, the food was ok but not worth the price as we needed to wait a long time for it and for the worse there was two people who i think was the owners in a massive and constant argument. Overall it wasn't a good experience for us. Which it was a shame as the decoration of the place looks very good.

Amazing food - all home cooked and the bbq ribs were so tender and flavoursome, dessert was the same and the live music added a nice atmosphere too. Prices are on the higher end but definitely worth it!

Went tonight can't believe how good the food was, it was fantastic, had prawns with salmon on a skewer it was perfect the selection was great X just go can't wait to go again XX
