Portland Fish & Chips in Liverpool

Ordered on Deliveroo and the food was outstanding. Exactly what we were after. We called ahead to check if the cod dinner came with curry, and they kindly offered to change the gravy for us. Definitely recommend this chippy, never seen the like of it in Liverpool 👌

Took my mum n nana here, the chicken burger was gorgeous, the gravy was so yummy and my nana ate every bit of the fish !! Definitely worth it cus those chips were proper chips !!

This is a beautiful chippy, both me and my partner will not go anywhere else. We are definitely on the regular list that we have a lovely friendship with the owner and staff. My partner always gets large cod and chips with curry or battered sausages and I get the same or their red donner (just wow!) Anyone who hasn't tried it are seriously missing out. Its also not one of them places that the food changes as u go. The consistency of the freshness and cleanliness is unmatched. We've been going since i was pregnant and had the pleasure of taking the baby once he arrived. Cant wait for the nicer days when we can sit in the recently updated seating area outside. It's also a bonus that it's halal 👌🏾 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My order was over an hour late even though it was only chips, peas and gravy. I tried to call multiple times and got no answer. And after all that the chips were okay at best.

DO NOT ORDER THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE. your food will not turn up. i ordered over 2.5 hours ago and nothing. the tracker they provide via text message doesn't work. it's almost impossible to get through to them on the phone as it constantly goes to voicemail. the one time they did pick up the phone (of our 100s of attempts) they blamed the lack of drivers. don't allow orders through your website direct if you have no drivers then? disgusting customer service, robbed my money. update: it's gone 10pm so they are now closed and i have not heard a thing from them. as far as i'm concerned they have stolen my money. never order from here :)

Large quantity, great flavour. Very friendly and smiling staff. I highly recommend it. Excellent prices, there is also the possibility of eating inside and fjorj.

I hadn’t set out to write a love letter to a chip shop today. I was just looking for a bit of edible ballast before a three-hour drive — the kind of modest, pre-motorway hope that usually ends with a beige meal and beige regrets. But then, like all good things in life, I found salvation entirely by accident. My wife has coeliac disease, and if you’ve ever tried sniffing out a gluten-free chippy in this godforsaken fried-dough-and-gravy island, you’ll know it’s a bloody task. Enter Portland’s Fish and Chips. A place that doesn’t advertise itself with pomp or neon. It simply exists. Like the best kind of institution. I don’t say this lightly, not as a man who’s been chewing his way through this country’s fish and chip offerings for two decades, from Cornwall to Carlisle, but what I had today was transcendent. The batter was crisp like a well-delivered punchline. The fish inside was flaky, juicy, honest. The chips were not the sad, soggy kind that taste of yesterday’s oil and national decline: these were chips that knew their purpose. I ate it in my car, like a man who had stumbled upon a little miracle wrapped in paper. And I tell you, those three hours on the road were pure bliss. I didn’t care about the traffic, didn’t mind the rain, the M6 could have turned into a parking lot and I’d still have been smiling. Next time I’m in Liverpool, I don’t care if it’s miles out of my way - I’m going back to Portland’s. And if you’ve got any sense, you’ll do the same. Go once, just once in your life. And if you don’t feel the urge to write your own fan letter after, you’ve got no soul - or worse, no taste buds.

Ordered a steak pie dinner, received chips peas n gravy, no pie

X2 meals, red kebab meat with chips, salad, one with homemade bread. Red salt on the chips. This place was recommend so we gave it a try. I can't fault it, it was all really good! Will definitely be returning to try the award winning fish and chips.

Had the fish and chips a couple of weeks ago and the kebab was recommended so this week we tried the kebab and for a person not fussy on kebabs I have got to say I would totally recommend trying it

The food took an hour to arrive. I think the restaurant was busy because courier spent 40 mins at the restaurant. Food arrived and it was ok. No calamari included and very oily fish though. The first time I ordered the food was a lot nicer.

New to the area so this is our new local chippy and it is gorgeousssss. Kids meals are great too.

We visited after a long day watching gymnastics. Ordered 4 fish and chips. Cooked to order, super hot with crispy batter and chips. No complaints, definitely recommend, and will return next time we are in Liverpool.

The best fish and chips we've had in ages! I got gluten free fish and chips and I was so impressed. The fish was so moist, batter is tasty and light and omg the chips are easily the best chippy chips we've ever had! The staff are so friendly and accommodating even after I made a mistake with my order. Highly highly recommended.

Hands down some of the best fish and chips around! The batter is crispy, the chips are spot on and the portions are big. The curry sauce is a must-try – so good! They also offer a gluten free option for the battered fish just as tasty as the regular one. Super friendly staff, definitely worth checking out!

Portlands is ever reliable. Fantastic chips at great prices, the owner is really friendly, and even have vegan options. The vegan burger is honestly brilliant!

Visited this chippy a few times when passing Otterspool promenade or travelling to South Liverpool. Great value meals cooked fresh and friendly service. I normally buy the kids size fish and chips meal for my elderly father but it's such a good size it normally does for me too. Nothing better than to watch the sun set with a quality chippy meal!

I recently visited Portland Fish and Chips and had an excellent experience! The fish and chips were absolutely amazing – the fish was fresh, the batter was perfectly crispy, and everything was cooked to perfection. The portions were a decent size, leaving me completely satisfied, and the meal was great value for money. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone craving delicious fish and chips!

The food here is amazing. I had been doing a 40 minute round trip to get my 10 year old daughter with Coeliac some fish and chips (which was her favourite meal before being diagnosed 6 years ago) on a Monday evening until I discovered Portlands have gluten free options every day of the week. We genuinely couldn't believe that the food was gluten free as it taste so good. This is definitely my daughters favourite place to order from. Always such a lovely atmosphere in there too - Thank you so much!

I don’t know how you did it I have travelled around. A lot of places but this donner meat we just got as a side has truly changed how we ever try donner meat again. It was perfect I can’t describe the words for better than perfect but it was truly something else open a kebab shop 😂😂😂 will order again

I've been looking for a halal fish and chip shop for years! This was worth the wait, delicious, fresh, hot. Just amazing. Real chippy chips. I had a pie which was lovely and tasty, full of meat. My husband had cod. It was fresh, no oil, crispy. 100% would recommend and we can't wait to visit again.

I used to order from you all the time for my parents as your fish n chips are usually excellent quality but last time the chips where stale as though they have been reheated or cooked way before. As you can imagine we never heard the end of it from our parents. So, we have been going to The Britania just down the street for our fis n chips, they are unbelievably tasty but very expensive. I wish I knew that you sorted your chips out or got rid of the kid who was lazy and reheated our chips. We would love to return to Portland fish n chips.

I have ordered from here before and it has been decent, however this time i was waiting for it to show up and the delivery time was not updating. When it got to the time it was supposed to be delivered it didn’t update to a later delivery time or show. An hour and a bit after the estimated delivery time, it updated saying it had been delivered. I have still received nothing. Quite frankly abysmal.

Waited over 2 hours with no update on what was happening with my order. Felt like they just forgot about my order then suddenly remembered I had been waiting 2 hours. Never waited that long ever absolute poor service

Went for the Red Doner. For the price the portion is very small. The doner was dry and surprisingly bland. Star for not charging extra for salad and sauce, for which the Special Sauce somewhat saved the meal. Would not recommend or try again. Friendly service.

I ordered food via the Portland fish and chips shop website, I placed my order around 1745 hours for a 1830 delivery. I received a text message saying I could track the delivery driver at 1809, I clicked it and the expected time was 1832. By 1909 I hadn't received my order so I contacted the store, the store stated that they had prepared the food and they had given it to a delivery driver and that was as much as they could do.I asked how I claimed a refund and the store said I needed to claim it through the company that employs the delivery drivers. The delivery driver came to my address at 1938 by which point he had my food for around 90 minutes so I refused the delivery on the basis that my food was going to be stone cold. I eventually found out how to attempt to claim a refund, I contacted them and they said they wouldn't give me a refund because the store had declined my refund request. So I'm £19 out of pocket for food that I had been with the delivery driver for 90 minutes, unable to get a refund and had to endure the stores bad attitude! Further complaint will be forthcoming and a fraud case has been raised with PayPal who I used to pay. 100% would not recommend using this restaurant, horrible service

First time visiting Portland's fish and chips. Staff were all welcoming and friendly from when we walked in. Good selection of food on the menu and also a paper version if wanting to order from home. Tried the homemade doner meat which was honestly the nicest thing ever! Perfectly flavoured, even got my partner to try for the first time, was not disappointed. The fish and chips was perfect crispy on the outside and fresh on the inside :) The boxes are the perfect touch with the seperater inside for fish and chips. Cannot fault our visit, good price also. Going to be visiting again very soon. Thank you
