Porter & Rye in Glasgow City

I had the pleasure of dining at Porter & Rye this past Saturday and it was an absolutely outstanding experience! We were visiting Scotland and had booked in advance. With four people, including two real steak lovers, expectations were high, especially after an average visit to another restaurant in Glasgow. The selection of steaks was impressive and we ordered four different dishes with different levels of doneness - all were cooked to perfection! The meat was simply amazing and one of the best I've ever tasted. I would particularly like to emphasize the first-class service. The staff was extremely friendly and professional, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. The side dishes, sauces and the different types of butter that we tried were also excellent and rounded off the meal perfectly. A small suggestion for improvement would be the wine selection, which could be a little more extensive. However, I can safely say that this visit was one of the best restaurant experiences of my life - at least when it comes to steak. I highly recommend Porter & Rye and look forward to my next visit!

Dropped in for the Sunday Roast and it certainly didn't disappoint. The roast beef was cooked perfectly and the trimmings were plentiful and complemented the meat perfectly. Our server was great - very personable while giving just the right amount of attention. And I love that it's dog-friendly. Can't recommend highly enough if you're after a hearty Sunday lunch and we'll be heading back to sample the rest of the menu.

What a gem this restaurant is and had one of the very best Sunday lunches…so good we came back the next night for steaks which was also superb. The atmosphere is really good. We had great cocktails, wine was great and the service is really friendly and efficient and nothing is too much trouble as they even swapped our table when we asked. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for great food in Glasgow.

Absolutely amazing steakhouse. Service was amazing and the food was even better than I had hoped. The stand out being the beef tartare and the chateaubriand . Also, they went out of their way to accommodate me not eating seed oils or emulsifiers. Many thanks for an incredible meal and fantastic experience

Our 3rd time here for Sunday Roast.. The best Sunday Roast in Glasgow, braised Ox cheek and roast beef were excellent, perfectly cooked, very tender and delicious. Gravy is lovely and Yorkshire pudding is amazing. Mac and cheese was also very good. Every bite is delicious , worth for the meal and price is fair. Excellent service and atmosphere. We are here birthday celebration today and they welcomed us with🥂. Highly recommend this place.

An absolutely stunning menu! The service was exceptional. I had a few dietary requirements which I have emailed about before my visit and the staff had detailed knowledge of what I can or cannot have. To make things easier the chef removed items I could not have from the menu. I would recommend this place to anyone in Glasgow!

Ranked in top 101 steaks restaurants worldwide for the years 2023 & 2024 consecutively, the selection and quality of the steak were excellent, service is very good and the give you good drink suggestions for pairing, must try their signature steaks in the menu.

It's still the best steak I have eaten anywhere. Service was polite and courteous . The mushrooms were amazing as were all the sides. Steak was cooked to absolute perfection. Taste was amazing. I cannot wait to refurn . Lovely wine to wash it down.

Lovely staff who were very attentive. They gave advice and tasters on wine when I was unsure which to get. The Pheasants Rillets was decent. We shared a coute de bouef and chips with chimichurri and peppercorn sauce. Steak was cooked perfectly and chips were lovely. Chimicurri sauce was a bit bland, peppercorn was lovely. We had baked Alaska for dessert which was sadly disappointing, the sponge we think, was gluten free and was a poor texture and flavour. The icecream and meringue were good but the caramel sauce didn’t taste of much. Would go back again for the steak, chips and wine and the service was to be commended.

What a wonderful place, a true gem! I had a lunch a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how reasonable the lunch menu is, I surprise the place wasn't mobbed. The food was absolutely gorgeous. The service deserves a special mention - everything just brilliant. I also mentioned it was my birthday and my partner and I were offered a glass of complimentary prosecco each. Plus, I was presented with a little sweet cake with Happy Birthday written in chocolate. We just walked in on the day, no prior booking, so very glad we did. We'll back many times again!

Very disappointing. There were some really good aspects, the steak was good, the cocktails were great and the staff were lovely. But the sides and desserts were hopeless. And for that sort of money, it's unacceptable. Would not go back

Visiting Glasgow, we were looking for the best Sunday Roast and they exceeded the mark. This was a great, upscale experience. A lot of technique in bringing a lot of variety onto one plate of delicious food. And anyone in your party isn't excited about a roast that day, their whole brunch menu is available. We got a crab pasta as well which was creamy and delicious. Definitely recommend for a special occasion or a fun Sunday afternoon out!

Great place. It’s not the cheapest but the quality and portion sizes definitely make it worth the money. Service is excellent, as is the food. Nothing is too much trouble and you’re not bothered every two minutes by staff asking if everything is ok. Would definitely recommend.

Superb from start to finish. A friendly and relaxed atmosphere, top staff, and delicious food. We went for the steak tartare and pork belly starters - both fab, and then shared the chateaubriand (topped with scallops) and sides - all brilliant!! Can’t fault anything!

Was in with some friends for dinner and would highly recommend. One friend ordered an off the menu cocktail, and they were only too happy to make it. Started with the sharing charcuterie board, you get to choose what’s on it from a wide selection; DONT get this if you’re planning on more food, it’s enormous and great value! I followed with the fillet; cooked to perfection! Desert was chocolate and blueberry tart, and gorgeous! Was there for a couple of hours, we were asked to move form the table for another party, but were accommodated at another….and got a free shot by way of a thank!

We visit Porter & Rye every-time we visit Glasgow, which is quite often. The food and atmosphere are outstanding. We went on Saturday night before going to see a concert and as always it was awesome. Never fails to disappoint.

Amazing. Myself and my fiancée come here a lot and the food, service and atmosphere is incredible. Best steak in Glasgow. Also, mega shout out to them, my fiancée was working nightshift on her birthday and I wanted to cook her a steak dinner before she went. Called the restaurant and they provided her favourite sauces (béarnaise, truffle butter and bone marrow jus) for me to add to the steak at home. Incredible. 10/10

Porter & Rye has been on my list of Glasgow restaurants to visit for years and I’m glad I finally booked in. The restaurant itself is lovely and the food and drinks menu are varied and interesting. The chateaubriand we had was cooked perfectly and the cocktails were a delight. The staff kindly moved us to a window seat to finish our wine and have a couple more cocktails when they needed our table back. We will be back!

We had a wonderful time, thank you to the whole P&R team. Every dish we had was lovely, couldn't fault a single item. The amuse bouche was a very nice touch, and thank you for the little prawn add-on, they were delicious. The servers were friendly, approachable, didn't rush us and didn't mind that we were clearly not steak or wine connoisseurs. Their recommendations for the food and wine were spot on, it was exactly the special night we hoped it would be. My only recommendation is maybe a small lamp for the table under the stairs. I like a table that is tucked away and cosy, it's just that I couldn't see very well.

Hands down the best Sunday roast in Glasgow, 5 doesn’t feel like enough stars. We also got the Ox broth which is a must add and the Porter Mary was the perfect bevy for the meal. Staff is lovely and welcoming. We can’t wait to come back.

Went for the weekday lunch menu where they have a selection of dishes for £10. The steak was good, including the sauce it came with. The burger was just mediocre and I suspect the patty was frozen at some point as it was a bit tough. I might be back to try the actual stuff from their main menu! However the service was a let down. The staff were friendly enough but everything took really long from ordering the food to ordering drinks and then our food arriving. I think overall worth visiting for their steak but probably not for a quick weekday lunch.

I had a great experience at the Porter and Rye. The staff were quick and very friendly. The food was great, and I was particularly happy with the presentation. I would definitely bring a family or group of friends here for a nice meal.

Was recommended to go here, especially if wanting a steak. Stater was prawns, lovely. Wine French. 🍷 nice. Steaks were perfect but everything else was an additional cost. There were Thursday night deals however as it was a very special occasion so we both went a la carte and didn't regret it. Superb. Pleasant service. Will be back. Thanks. Absolutely terrific meal. Sunday roast was EPIC and my partner had the ribeye burger. Portions were great. Service was brilliant and so was the atmosphere. I shall definitely return. 10/10.

We went here off the recommendation of a reel I saw on Facebook and really wasn't disappointed. The staff were lovely and welcoming, and the food had a minimal wait between courses. The olives were delicious. We were given a free amuse-bouche, which was stunning, our starters were very tasty and the main was cooked exactly how we asked. Couldn't fault the food or the price. We will definitely return.

We ate here with a group of friends, six in total, in August 2024. It is hard to fault. The menu was an existential crisis for me as I wanted to try so many things. But we had gone for the Sunday Roast and I stuck to it. I was so glad. It is literally one of the beef roasts I have had and I say that as a proud Yorkshireman who has eaten a fair few. The quality of the meat they have here is clearly credit to the relationship they have with a great local Scottish butcher but it was the quality and tastiness of all the sides on the roast that took it to the next level. Two of the guests also opted for the burger that looked equally good. The cauliflower cheese was a delicious addition and several of the starters were shared and equally good (the prawns, the rilettes for example). It is also worth mentioning the stunning and delicious Bloody Marys which you can order on a sliding scale of spice. A weekend in Glasgow proved to me that it has some absolutely fantastic eateries and this place is one of those. Go!

Went for the first time last week and this is one of the best steaks I’ve ever had! Not only that but the sides and bone marrow jus were all outstanding. Lovely little place full of character and very relaxed. The staff were friendly and knowledgable and the food cooked to perfection. Thank you for such a lovely experience. Excellent, original and will return next time I am in Glasgow

This was a celebration, birthday lunch for my young grandson, a foodie, and a wheelchair user. From first contact phone call -my inquiry re accessibility [level entrance/ disabled toilet]- to the moment the door was opened for our leaving, service was outstanding. It's obviously a meat-heavy menu, but even a vegetarian could eat well with the menu's side dishes; the focaccia we shared and the carrots in yogurt I had with my amazing value £10 steak frites were a meal in themselves. Grandson chose pigeon-beautifully presented and also very substantial -sirloin and beef dripping chips. We shared a coffee with petit fours, the coffee mine , the sweet treats his.Bi Overall, it's probably the best meal I've had this year. So few so-called 'top' restaurants in Glasgow are disabled-friendly; it's shameful, and bad business too- excluding food lovers prepared to spend money on an excellent meal. That is why Porter and Rye was such a great discovery! We will definitely be back. Thank you . .

It is not cheap, but it is fantastic if you want a good quality steak. I had a medium raw rib eye steak with a side dish of mushrooms, cooked to perfection. The occasion was a family celebration and Porter & Rye ticked all the boxes.

Absolutely loved the experience. My family and I had a great time here celebrating my husband's birthday. They welcomed us with complimentary celebratory drinks too which was a great touch. The food was phenomenal and so was the service. One of the best meals we've had. It's a bit on the expensive side which is good to note but totally worth it. The tomahawk steak was the best I’ve had in Glasgow ! Service, atmosphere and drinks were excellent! The building is old, but the toilets are clean and modern.

Just do yourself a favour and go to the best steakhouse in Scotland.

I ordered the beef tenderloin, rare. The cooking was perfect, which is rare in Anglo-Saxon countries, which always overcook. The meat was tasty and tender. Truly excellent! Very friendly service. An excellent address, I warmly recommend it!

Disappointed. 2 stars over all. One for the service and one for the cocktails. The food wasn’t very good. The first dish was rabbit, which was somehow, overcooked, cold and served on a warm plate. The wellington was so dry I thought I’d taken a mouthful of sand. Pigeon and venison were underwhelming with garnishes that brought nothing to the dish. The bone marrow and ox cheek was nice, but the best thing was the pesto on the side. The staff were lovely, attentive and offered us a great wine flight. We never ordered dessert as we didn’t want anymore the food, so we ordered cocktails which were superb. Overall, I might nip in for a cocktail while in that end of town, but never again for the food.

Unfortunately not a great experience here. Our food was cold (really poor from a steakhouse!) and garnishes aren’t great either (a nub of lettuce sprinkled with paprika..?). We were also constantly forgotten about and eventually had to get up and ask for the bill at the bar after waiting so long when there were only two other tables!! Definitely better steakhouses to try in the area.

We visited tonight and had to write a review. The steak was the best steak I have ever had, the service was warm, welcoming and just overall so relaxed. The girl who served us, I have forgotten her name was absolutely lovely. She was so honest, patient and very personable. She tried to get me the perfect cocktail and was just so genuine. The guy that greeted and sat us down made us feel comfortable and was just an overall lovely person too. We will definitely be back and definitely recommend to others. What a fab place for food and drinks. Thank you!

Me and my husband where sharing our 2nd anniversary dinner together tonight and the staff went above and beond. The food dose have a price attached but worth every penny and more. Steak sellection was amazing and cooked to perfection. Coodos too the chefs. I want to thank everyone there who made us feel welcome at ease and give us such an excelent experience. 5* all day long.

Visited for 30th birthday meal for my son. Absolutely wonderful from beginning to end. Service from staff was excellent and I really appreciated they immediately acknowledged his birthday. The food was just delicious and hard to pick a stand out it was all so good. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the pigeon, beef tartare and scallops were so tasty. All the sides were fresh and flavoursome. I think the horse radish and honey roast potatoes stood out along with the heritage carrots. The desserts were beautifully presented and finished off the meal perfectly. Really good value for a special meal. We all really enjoyed our evening and will definitely return to try other dishes on the menu. Thanks to all the staff for making a special occasion go so smoothly.

A weekend trip to Glasgow for a concert, booked here on a recommendation from a friend and it was fantastic. the staff where a great help in recommending the right wine to go with our meal and the service was excellent. The steak was perfect along with the sides and sauces and great value for money. we will highly recommend this steak house and visit again when we are in town again

Myself and my mother were visiting Glasgow for a concert and also celebrating her birthday. From start to finish our visit was first class. We opted for the sharing plates and, thanks to the waitresses advice, we had just enough food and an amazing selection. Each dish was superb, we couldn’t agree on a favourite. The wine complimented the plates perfectly. We then decided to treat ourselves to some cocktails. Wow, what can I say, among the best I have had! The restaurant setting is fabulous, and the staff were fabulous throughout too. I just wish we lived closer - I’ll definitely be back the next time we are in Glasgow!

I took my girlfriend for her birthday and the food was excellent. The service was very good. Friendly, helpful and efficient. I had said it was her birthday and at the end of the meal, the server brought out a plate with happy birthday written in chocolate and a couple of chocolates on the plate. I know it's a high bar but I think Porter and Rye is the best steak restaurant in Glasgow. We have been a few times now for various celebrations and it has never disappointed. The quality of the food is perfection. The steaks are always cooked just right and are delicious. It is an expensive meal out but when the standard is so high we don't really mind. Lastly, shout out for the service which is always exceptionally good.

wow wow wow. now, i’m not usually one to leave reviews but this place was absolutely impeccable. the drink selection, the cuts of steak, being able to choose your own knife: amazing! the staff could not of been lovlier and the food was the best i’ve ever had. genuinely could not sing their praises any higher. i cannot wait to come back. best restaurant ever!

We recently visited to celebrate my wife’s birthday and we had a wonderful experience. Linda gave us exceptional service throughout our meal. For starters we had the tartare and carpaccio. Both were beautifully presented and delicious. For main course we had the chateaubriand which was perfectly cooked. The prices are exactly what you would expect to pay at a restaurant of this quality. Highly, highly recommend. An outstanding restaurant.

Very nice food all round. My wife who through no choice is D&G Free, however both the main and dessert menu provided her with plenty of tasty options. Apologies, I have forgot the servers name (he had amazing body art), was extremely professional and informative creating a relaxed environment for us both to enjoy our meal.

My partner and I had the Meat-Up Wednesdays porterhouse steak and neither of us could find the correct superlative it was that good. This was the best Steak I’ve ever had. Locally sourced meat and cooked to perfection. The quality of the sides and the wine was also incredible. Can wholeheartedly recommend the Mac & Cheese. Everything was not too rich and beautifully balanced. The whole meal was created around the beef. Whoever drew up this Menu Is a genius in my opinion. The service was perfect. They were attentive without being overbearing, and the restaurant itself was very nicely appointed with great atmosphere. Genuinely could not fault any part of our Meal. Get a table booked beforehand as I can imagine it gets really busy.

We had a birthday family dinner at Porter and Rye. The service was fab and the food was terrific we chose from the aged steak menu and it was very good. We skipped starters (small plates) but had dessert which was really special. There is a nice wine selection to compliment your food. Rachel looked after us all night and was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone who fancies a nice steak and bit break the bank to do so. This is the place for you. Booking is advisable as it is a small place.

We shared a chataubriand stake to share - amazing! And king prawns on top were absolutely delicious! Thanks to chef! The administrator was amazing.
