Portals Place in Hartlepool

Just been for Sunday lunch as a large family and it was absolutely amazing one of the best dinners around. So good, definitely recommend. And so cheap for the quality and service

Been out for a lot of Sunday lunches lately and portals have knocked the socks off the other places..give it a try you won't be disappointed 😋😋

Last week we managed to eat at Portals twice with different friends, our first visit was last Thursday, great welcome as usual and food excellent meal had by all, service by friendly, helpful staff was first class. Sunday saw us going for Lunch with friends from Darlington and Southampton, one asked what the Portals Parmesan was, I told him the story of how it developed and he was keen to try it. All I will say is, his plate was clean! I had the hot shot with him which was, as usual extremely tasty, made with good quality chicken. The rest of the party enjoyed the Sunday Roasts of Beef and Lamb. Service again great and staff very attentive. A great two lunch experiences, thanks once again to Tony and his team.

Myself and my family were at the restaurant lastnight for my husband's 60th birthday. From walking in we were made welcome our table looked fab they even made places names for us .the food was absolutely amazing. Thank you to all the staff

We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary fifteen of us,very impressed with everything.food outstanding.table set with name cards with what each guest had preordered. Which made the service faultless.all the staff friendly,nothing too much trouble.would recommend to every one,free parking after 6pm makes for a stress free evening.well done

No idea how this place gets 4.5 *. Had the pork fillet. Dry as toast and very salty. Sauce was also salty. Ordered the skinny fries which arrived as a congealed lump of potato matchsticks in a silver cup. Beer selection was limited, no local tipple on offer. Service staff were polite but seemed miserable. Overall pretty grim.

Didn't have a reservation and they were very busy. They had a table available in approximately 30 minutes and phoned me in 15 minutes to say it was ready. Staff are lovely. The menu has a good selection. Portion sizes are good, 2 course was plentiful for me. Pricing is very reasonable the quality of food very good. No complaints from anyone at my table. Very tasty. Highly recommend the pasta dishes and a place to eat in general.

I have been coming to Portals for years and for the past 4 years with 3 of the same friends. We all love coming and never meet anywhere else. The food is always superb! The staff are efficient and really friendly and service is excellent. It has a lovely atmosphere and is in a great location on the marina. The chefs work really hard and produce the most delicious quality food, that is always perfectly presented. Thank you😀 I have met people who come from all over the region to dine at Portals and who have come to Hartlepool on holiday and dined here and say how fabulous it is. It’s very true!

Lovely restaurant on hartlepool marina very bright inside as lots of windows with nice views and great atmosphere. We had the two course special and thoroughly enjoyed both. I had the Brushetta starter then the fish of the day which came in a lovely spicy creamy sauce, beautiful. Staff were lovely.

When to portals last very busy place i had the pate for starters and the chicken parmo it was all delicious the front off house was very nice will definitely go back

Went on Tuesday the staff was very friendly I had the king prawn for starters it was nice and tasty and for main course the sirloin with blue cheese sauce it was cook to perfection medium rare will definitely go back

Awful. I had mussels to start, about 12 and four of them were closed. The rest were smashed and well over done. The bread was nice. For my main course I plumped for a spicy pasta dish. It was a mess, a dry stodgy lump which was fairly inedible. I was with company from my work hence me not complaining at the time. For the record, 3 of them had the paramo which was also very poor. If this is the best Hartlepool has to 9ffer,I despair.

Could not fault the food, it was excellent. Fresh and very tasty. Service was a little slow and had to ask twice if we could order dessert. Reasonably priced and good value for money.

We were there with a larger group. We asked for the dishes to be ordered in advance, and if there are more than ten people, that's fine. Everything went well, the meals came almost at the same time. The starters were very good, but unfortunately the main courses didn't meet our wishes. I had a duck breast; It was supposed to be fried until pink, but it was completely cooked through and a bit tough. My sit-down bar had ordered a fillet steak “medium rare” - pretty much the most expensive meal on the menu - but the meat was “well done”. It therefore rightly went back. Then came the second attempt, and although it was rather “medium”, it wasn’t a good piece of meat, maybe not a fillet either. The atmosphere was good, and perhaps the restaurant was just too busy to concentrate on each dish in the kitchen. We'll try again when we get the chance.

Sacked for asking to use the toilet then threatened to remove review left by partner loved this job too

Booked early for the early dinner deal. Set menu but a good selection. We ate chicken pate & mussels as an entree followed by roast pork loin + crackling & beef casserole. The mussels were outstanding. Pate was delicious, robust traditional style. Beef casserole & roast pork flavoursome. Crackling small but crunchy. Lovely drinks menu to enhance our meal. Would have returned but not enough time with other places to explore.

Had been looking for a nice restaurant to go to in town and decided to try here, so glad we did. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was absolutely beautiful. We had a lovely night thank you.

Travelling with work and someone recommended this restaurant and I couldn’t recommend enough! 2 courses for £15.50 and the food is absolutely delicious and the staff just lovely! 10 out of 10

Regularly eat here but today's food was fantastic , the mussels cooked in cider were the best I have ever eaten and the trout cooked in cream wine and dill sauce was delicious

We had a great get together at Portals. The staff gave us the space to talk and take our orders when we had time to review the menu. Food was lovely. Piping hot and tasty.

Trusting trip advisor I tried this place as I was in Hartlepool today. Looks lovely when you walk in and the host was pleasant. Lots of space and overlooking the marina. A nice spot. Started with bruschetta - very odd as not a tomato in sight 🍅 (Italians look away) but actually very tasty with the goats cheese. So far so good. The main however…… Not far from its original home of Boro - I thought I’d try the Parmo. Been to Austria a fair bit recently and loved the schnitzel there and let’s be honest a parmo is an upgrade. So I had high hopes. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Strangely far too much bechemel. And the bechemel and the cheese were completely tasteless. Maybe cheap and plastic cheese? Maybe forgot the seasoning? Either way - very poor. Soggy and bland. I’ve had (many) better from takeaways - and that’s shocking for a restaurant in my book. Sorry.

Lovely place on the marina and food matches the view. Varied choice of dishes I tried the fish of the day which was haddock. The wine selection was so good and even had a Camel et Joseph rose which is a rarity! All in all a great experience and thank you to the 3 very helpful serving staff. Would highly recommend.

Food was great. Excellent presentation choice and quality. Staff are attentive and professional and nothing was too much bother. No wonder Portal’s Place was buzzing on a weekday evening.

Absolutely perfect. The food, presentation, service and ambiance was absolutely 100%. I had the fillet steak and it was spot on. The sticky toffee pudding was also exceelent. My friend had the rissotto which he said was perfect also.

Excellent. We had beef and the veal and garlic mushrooms and they were all excellent. Generous and quality with the most delicious sauces . Highly recommended and reasonably priced. Good situation to watch boats etc., and don't be put off by the stupid car parking rules as the restaurant also takes care of that for you. They also have a good range of drinks including low alcohol lager. Good pleasant service

Went to portals a ladies that lunch and everything was perfect

This was a first visit for my wife and I but it won't be the last. We've walked past many times but today we decided to try the food. I had a Goats' Cheese Wellington and my wife had the Slow Roast Beef as mains. They were both excellent, as were the staff and seating arrangements. Thank you all for a lovely dining experience.

Beautiful food here for my works Christmas night out.

Yet again Tony and his team did us proud! 11 of us 'codgers' for Christmas Lunch, some changing or adding to their pre-order but staff handled it perfectly and nothing was a problem. Food yet again, perfect and I have to say, the French Onion Soup is heavenly! No complaints from anyone and a unanimous vote that we will be booking for next Christmas. Portals has been a firm favourite of ours since it opened and we have enjoyed many family meals there and we will continue to support such a great restaurant. Thanks again Tony and Staff for making it a special day once again.

The vegatables are cooked well and tasty although a little too much brocolli every time. The carrot tops are left on so needed to prune these, Maybe its a fasion im not sure but I dont eat the stalks on pears ,apples ,turnips so Forth,,A little more effort and it would be thee place to go

One of my favourite restaurants in Hartlepool Food is always amazing, with large portion sizes and lots of choice. Separate dietary menus are available. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is great. Restaurant is clean and tidy, with lovely decor.

I have got to say this was the best stake I've ever had! It was done to perfection and the sauce it came with was amazing. My friend ordered the mussels and I have never liked mussels my whole life but she offered me to try one and to my amazement I actually liked it! I really liked it. I will be ordering the mussels next time I visit here. It is a bit expensive but with the offers they have on buying one meal and a starter for £13.95 it worked out well. You could also switch having a dessert instead of a starter which I did and got the strawberry cheese cake.

1st visit here for Restaurant week. I had the Salmon Fishcake, Chilli Burger and Sticky Toffee pudding washed down with a bottle of Merlot. Very good meal. Will probably return, next restaurant week.

Had lunch OMG it was fantastic. There weren’t many customers in but that’s suits us. Had the fish cake and garlic mushrooms to start, absolutely delicious. Hubby had a burger which was super I had pizza, cooked very thin the way I like them ! Accompanied by a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Great service, very reasonable price. All in all 10/10. We will be back.!

Absolutely amazing! We have ate here many times and have never been disappointed. Views amazing and food was 10/10 . Would highly recommend. We were so impressed that we had our wedding family get together there for 30 people and everyone loved it. Will definitely be going again.

Pre-booked for dinner just now and every thing about Portals Place is phenomenal! Exceptional customer service even helping us to book a return taxi back home . Superb food from the baked crab to the sea bass and into the pistachio creme brulee. A crisp sancerre followed the white rabbit cocktail into the burrow beautifully! I wish to visit this classy venue again when I am next in the neighbourhood. Thank you Erin and Chanice. Perfection on a plate!

This restaurant has everything and I mean Everything! Starting with location, right on the marina fantastic. Enter a wonderful, well set out, comfortable dining area.with attentative staff. Most important-the food is absolutely excellent!! price wise very good value for money.We enjoyed so much we booked for the following night. The second night we were going to book again but they do not open Sunday evening. Who says you can’t have to much of a good thing!!

Visited with a friend for lunch yesterday. Always our place of choice. Variety and quality of food has always remained excellent. Two/three course lunch menu is reasonable too. Service with a smile. you can't beat it!

Lamb was tough. Vegetables raw. Not good experience. Have been going there for many years. Will no be going back. Very disappointed

Every so often you come across a gem of a place and this restaurant is no exception. Food, wine and service excellent and moderately priced. My wife and I had a lovely experience. When we return to the area, we will return. Visited Thursday 13th July 2023.

Even though it was busy we were seated straight away, ordered 2 parmos, did not wait very long for it to arrive and it was lovely, the chips were amazing too, highly recommend.

Had a really nice evening meal here , good food at reasonable prices and pleasant service , would recommend and return .

Went for Sunday lunch with family. It was good. There were a lot of us and they handled it well. The views of the harbour are great.

Hosted our wedding reception here in May 2023 in Abbey's bar, fabulous day enjoyed by everyone. The buffet was delicious and catered for all tastes. Prior to the wedding we had many requests and nothing was too much trouble for them. They opened up early and let us stay late, putting in a 12 hour shift! Highly recommend if you want a small private venue (30-35)people. Made our day very special. Thank you

Absolutely divine food. Waiting staff were lovely. It was really busy but we still didn't have to wait long between courses. Portal's was warm, welcoming and very clean. Would recommend this place 100%+. Will be returning again, again and again.

Update: This time our visit was disappointed. The quality of the food was not as we know it. Maybe just a bad day..... Best place in hartlepool to enjoy the evening. very delicious and fresh food for a good price. Need to make a reservation, always full.

Have eaten here many times over the years and food has always been pretty good, but our last visit was a bit disappointing. Mains were pretty average, and both myself and my missus opted for the cherry and amaretto cheesecake, which was disappointing - base was soggy and no taste of cherry or amaretto, and covered in strawberry icecream sauce. Poor.

Lovely meal definitely recommend

While the food was really good, we were rushed and had to have our desserts/coffee on the bar which was cold. Wouldn't go back in a hurry
