This is single handedly the best breakfast in Plymouth. They have all the ratios spot on, always a great portion! The staff are lovely and always welcoming, really makes the place feel warm. I have brought many friends here who have enjoyed it as well, and now they have become regulars too!

First time visiting today, and safe to say we won't be back. The food wasn't fresh, it felt like it had been warmed up. The bacon was so overdone it was like concrete. Very compact inside. To make matters worse, there was someone on her phone at the top of her voice, swearing and staff didn't say anything until another customer said something.

Found this restaurant when walking the dog and noticed its always busy from breakfast onwards. On visiting it for Sunday roast I can see why, good honest home cooked food at very competitive prices. Two sizes of roast and usually at least 3 choices of meat and a pie of the day. Their steak and kidney pie with all the roast trimmings is particularly good. This is has now become our go to roast.

We spent a lovely day walking the pavements overlooking the Plymouth Sound. None of the eateries were particularly appealed, and that's when I remembered this wonderful little cafe I had been to some years ago. Just 5 mins from the Hoe, although it was dark from the outside, the staff were very accommodating and pleasant, and they did takeaway which was music to our hungry ears. I ordered the steak and kidney pie, and my partner had the gammon roast. We found a sunny spot overlooking the water, and had a brilliant lunch. The steak and kidney pie was delicious, tender and meaty, and the trimmings incredibly substantial. The gammon was hearty and well-needed after our long walk. Thank you Port O Call!

I and my colleague go here every Friday for lunch as we work just across the road. Food is always excellent - good, old fashioned, home-cooked style food always of the highest standard. They have a wide ranging menu from the full English breakfast, burgers, scampi, Kiev etc to traditional roasts, lasagne etc plus home made cakes, cheesecakes etc. They are not licensed but you can bring your own wine/beer in the evening. I particularly like their fresh fish on a Friday and they do an excellent fishpie too.

3rd visit to port of call for a breakfast. Its buy one get one free on a Thursday, bargain! £5 for 2 English breakfasts, a coffee and orange juice! Tasty breakfast. However during our visit (2 people) it was fairly busy and only tables of 4 - the whole establishment only has tables for 4 people. Whilst my friend was ordering food at the counter; an older "lady" asked me if there was anyone sat with me so I said yes. Her group of 4 then sat at the table next to me. She then asked again if anyone was sitting at the table with me so I said yes again. They were actually a group of 5 and their 5th person was sat somewhere else in the cafe, why they didnt just split their group of 5 up into 2 smaller groups is beyond me, then again these were Jeremy Kyle types. My friend returned and throughout our breakfast all I could hear was the silly woman repeating her disgust at how I wouldn't let their 5th friend sit at my table - hello, she didnt ask! Plus why would I want some random person sitting with me and my friend when we are eating. Made for a very uncomfortable breakfast. As soon as we finished eating I got up and left. Even though the breakfast is cheap and tasty; I wont return due to the clientele. I may or may not have muttered "cupid stunts" at them.

As the title says, I was pleasantly surprised by Port O’call. Advertised as a cafe, it’s opens until 8pm most days. Decided to have the mega grill which was a little smaller than I was expecting, straight up till the point a separate bowl of chips came out. It did take some time for the meals to come out but not an unacceptable amount of time. The food was cooked perfectly and had plenty of flavour. Must say, the chips was absolutely fantastic, some of the best I’ve had in a very long time.

I was lucky enough to be staying very near to The Port-O-Call one evening in March. I knew of the West Hoe pub next door from a previous stay so I went and as it was Monday I was told they don't do food. I asked where can I eat and they recommended The Port-O-Call next door so I went expecting a greasy spoon and was pleasantly surprised to find a lovely clean and respectable small restaurant. The menu was temping but the specials on the board took my fancy more. There was a choice of small or large meals so I chose a small chilli con carne with a coca cola. I'm glad I ordered a small portion because when it arrived it would be called large anywhere else and it was tasty and exactly what I would expect from a chilli. I saw another customer sit and when his order of bass with new potatoes and beans arrived I thought I should have ordered that. I will next time I visit. Once I was done I went next door for a perfect pint of real ale to finish a lovely evening off. Well done Plymouth for having a fine restaurant that thinks it's a cafe.

Went to the Port 'Call on the recommendation of my sister who went last week with her friend. Today was my birthday and I wanted a meal that wasn't mass produced or in a cafe/restaurant where the emphasis is on the decor and not the food. I can not express enough how pleased I was with my meal, the roast beef was excellent, melt in the mouth, vegetables cooked to perfection, roast potatoes done just right along with home made yorkshire pudding and proper hot thick gravy. Mug of tea - made just right. The toilets are clean. We lingered after our meal as the atmosphere was warm and relaxed, had another drink and when the chef (not sure if he is the owner) knew it was my birthday, he brought over the largest slice of homemade victoria sandwich with clotted cream to the table, Certainly can not fault the customer service. Will definitely be going back and also recommending to friends and family.

Where else can you get, without doubt, the tastiest, and largest roast dinner at such value and at any time of the day too? (extra large for only a fiver) I went in there and had roast beef yesterday and had a roast lamb on Thursday last week. Both times it scored a 10 from me and I can be a bit fussy on roasts. If you pay the extra pound, for your £5 you get loads of meat, giant yorkies, freshly cooked veggies and kind of gravy only bettered by your late mother. I came home stuffed on both occasions and only had a poached egg on toast in the evening as I was still full. Okay,it may not look like the ritz but it's clean enough and the staff are friendly and welcoming. I don't go for food to pick at the decor,I go for the food and yes,I WILL be returning. I would have walked right past this place had it not been recommended to me. Proper local greasy spoon cafe with a lovely welcome, great food, big portions and a low price! Lovely little cafe, would return

Had a hard night out in Plymouth and needed some sustenance. The Port O'Call hit the spot perfectly. Lovely full cooked brekky, just what the doctor order. Yum !

This is a no-frills working person's restaurant. The ambience is average but the value for money, portions and quality of cooking is high. Don't go here for haute cuisine but do here for excellent basic food. A three course meal is £7.50 and for that you get soup or pate etc, lamb, chicken stew or curry and for dessert a sponge or cake with cream and / or custard to give a rough flavour of what's on offer. I like restaurants like this when you're hungry as you just need decent food.

Molto bello e caratteristico il quartiere circostante merita 3 ore per visitarlo per bene. Il cibo buono per essere inglese e personale cordiale ci tornerò

Having booked in advanced, we proceeded to walk more than two more with our dog. Realising we were going to be 5 minutes late, we picked ahead, all was well. We arrived and our table was still occupied, with the patron soon too leave. We stated we would walk our dog around whilst they clear the table, they agreed. We came back less than 5 minutes later too find more people on our table and was told it was our fault for not sitting with their previous guest. We left with barely an apology and no meal. Food is good, service is less than poor by our experience.

Apart from my partner picking a hair out of his beans, it was a big breakfast for only 4 quid including a coffee. Nice greasy spoon, but a bit rough..

Although dated and tired on the inside, it has character, friendly staff and great value breakfasts. Haven't tried the lunches. Not great for larger groups. There is parking outside of you're lucky to get an hour spot.

We came here one Saturday for a well recommended breakfast which we were looking forward to. On entering the cafe we sat on an empty table and proceeded to be ignored by both waitresses for 10 minutes! They served and cleaned all the tables around us without even saying good morning to us. Safe to say we left before being ignored any longer...

I am staying in a Guest House around the corner and was looking for somewhere to eat after a long bus journey. So glad I stumbled across this place. Had a lovely 3 course meal for £7.50. Pate, toast and salad, lamb chop cobbler and banoffee. All 3 course were large portions and I am very full. Nice friendly staff completed the picture. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

First time here but won't be my last and as for the breakfast it was of such good quality the bacon nice and thick and the sausages are the best I have had, as I could not eat all my bacon I asked if they had anything to put it in and they got me a container but the service did not end their as I have a a walking problem the owner helped me to the car. Top marks and thank you

We was asked for a discretionary service charge to be paid before receiving any service they take your card before asking so you feel obligated to say yes I feel like I was held to ransom to get my card back I will not be going back to the early bird mayflower road can’t remember the food as I’m still in shock felt like I robbed 😳 Does the owner condone these disappointing practices?
