Cafe Fandom in Plymouth - Phone Number, Reservations, Reviews

Not much seems to have been going on here for ages. The Fandom formula was a bit niche and after being hit by a fire a year or two ago never really got back the occasional momentum it had before. The place is now in the final couple of weeks of reworking and reconditioning the interior and the the entirely new management have explained that they intend to open later February 2020 as a dog friendly bar and adjacent room serving a modern twist on pub grub classics. Sounds interesting. These premises have long been very convenient to users of the pontoons at this end of Sutton Harbour. The first restaurants on this site twenty years ago and more were very successful and enjoyable places to use.

Ate here recently. Was a bit like eating in a run down community centre, staffed by the local naughty kid's, cooking on one of those old plug in single hobs and a combi microwave. Hilariously bad if you can live with the gut rot. The barman deserves special mention for passive agression and poorly made cocktails.

This place is like a hidden delight. Really cool decor and quite good food. Would recommend slightly more cheese on the chips but besides that everything was perfect.

La comida era muy sabrosa y bien presentada, tuve la hamburguesa de Phoenix y estaba bien y realmente estuvo a la altura de mis expectativas. Los cócteles son ingeniosos en su combinación de colores y sabores a su nombre, me gustaría haberlos probado todos. Definitivamente volveré a visitar cuando esté en la zona.

Great place for food and at a very reasonable price, great service and great vegan choices on the menu very nice atmosphere and very welcoming.

La primera vez aquí y hubo una cálida bienvenida (bueno, en realidad bastante bien porque había bienvenidos ventiladores de techo en un día muy caluroso). Nos sirvieron rápidamente y mientras esperábamos jugábamos juegos de mesa. La comida estaba caliente, fresca y sabrosa. Lo que fue un golpe para los propietarios, el personal y los habituales. ¡El lugar está de vuelta, con un gran trabajo de arte, decoración y sus increíbles hamburguesas!El lugar es muy basado en la comunidad, ejecutando diversas actividades. Wowzers. That was one of the greatest meals I've ever eaten. Holy smokes!

Two or three months ago this eccentric but popular cafe suffered a fire which does not seem to have affected the basic structure or the building all around it but when I came by today I was disappointed to find that the unit is still in darkness showing piles of furniture and equipment as well as tools and other items lying around the place with no sign of any major clear up or of fresh work in progress. I recall that not long after the fire there was a support event in an Ebrington St pub which I thought was to assist in a resurrection but I’ve heard nothing more of it.

Came in as a friend had recommended it. Was a bit unsure as was more expensive than I really wanted to pay- we were planning a pub lunch. Soòoo glad we did as it was amazing!! Best roast we've had in Plymouth. Delicious veg- honey roasted butternut squash, Swede and red cabbage.beef was still pink. Yorkie was a little over done for me but a minor niggle Plenty of roasties and the gravy was delish. Best 12 quid you could spend on a meal. Can't wait for them to reopen after the fire

Visited last night and had the set Valentines menu, it was delicious! We love this place, it’s great for couples, friends and families. Excellent food and friendly staff. Great location and the place is a touch quirky. Visited before and will definitely be visiting again.

One of my favourite eating spots in Plymouth. Always a lovely welcome and always another thing to spot in the decor each time.

Ordered my birthday cake from here and it was truly a piece of art. Very sweet though.

Food looks cool but doesn't taste great, asked for my burger medium rare, got well done, buns seemed dry, burger meat was very tough, a lot of chewing was done. Decor lovely, staff very nice, loved the giant fish, he was great too.

Great burgers in brightly coloured brioche buns - mine was huge and nice and spicy.

Went on a comedy night seriously bad and food was worse. We left early once the S&M story took the stage

Fantastic, our new favourite place to go with or without the children. Kids love the comic style atmosphere and don't have chance to get bored with all the things to see or games available to play. The food is fab, with a fun element too. Highly recommended

At very short notice Café Fandom welcomed our group to a cream tea (as where we were going demanded £150 deposit). Café Fandom is a new café in a delightful area of Sutton Harbour and the décor is clean, fresh and unusual, but will definitely appeal to the younger generation. Although we had intended having a cream tea, we ended up having a variety of food, from a normal cream tea of scones with jam and cream, a special tea of sandwiches, quiche, scones and we would also have had some lovely cake but we were too full up, also burger and chips (massive) and a lovely chicken liver pate. There were plenty of other yummy food on the menu. If you like fantasy then this café is for you. The service was fantastic.

This is one of the most unique and fun places to visit in Plymouth, it celebrates every fandom and embraces the weird and wonderful.It has annual quiz nights that are entertaining and fun, and many more different events that are each amazing.It’s definitely more aimed at students and people who are in fandoms but is still a lovely place to go for a light lunch, or a big burger.

Walking round the harbour and came across this restaurant. Decided to give it a go, and have to disagree with the review about the decor. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, not cheap and thrown up, the food was great, have the master chief burger! Followed by the jokers pudding washed down when the orchard pig cider. We had a lovely evening and the staff were great

The good news is that the food is lovely, tasty, well presented and plentiful. The bad news is the decor. You can tell it has been put together on a tight budget with even toilet rolls being used as some kind of light shade. All that said though the food was really lovely so ut comes down to what you find most important when going out to eat.

This is a theme restaurant. It features lots of references to heroes many of us relate to - Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Superman and so on. So It's great for kids.

Fun vibe in this restaurant with its comic book hero decor! Enjoyed a drink, a starter and a delicious desert, enjoyed all the food enjoyed really friendly service, the burger menu looks great, hope to go back again to give it a try!

Place is different and quirky, food looks good but is in fact just ok. I'd go back if I was going down for a bday etc but i wouldn't necessarily head down again for my desires. There are better burger places.

A large table of us visited for a birthday meal and we all left underwhelmed. The food itself looks great but was flavourless but so salty. I know that sounds unusual but the burgers didn't have any flavour and the chips were seasoned with so much rock salt that it was completely overpowering. We really wanted to love it but sadly we won't be returning.

A very quiet Tuesday night with only a few people dining. A great cafe with a Marvel / Harry Potter / Superhero decor and menu. Don't be put off if you are not into superheroes, the food is really very very good and reasonably priced too, the desserts are awesome, try The Candy Man Burrito, and with 2 cocktails for £8 before 8pm all very happy! Lovely staff and service too!

It was suggested we visit by two young people. The service, food and experience was excellent for all age groups.

Being a group of geeks this seemed like the perfect place for myself and friends to have lunch together. The burgers are all named after geek related things and the appearance of the food fits with the names perfectly. The Hulk burger was completed with a bright green bun. We were all half expecting the burger buns that were different colours to taste of colouring and be dry but we were all pleasantly surprised. The meat was tasty and of good quality and the buns were soft and light with no artificial tastes to them. As you'd expect one of the main draws from Fandom is the atmosphere. If you are a fan girl/guy like me you'll love walking round and finding hidden bits of my favourite Tv show/movie related items. If you fancy a burger with a geeky twist it's definitely worth a visit.

Maybe not worth it for the price. Everything was.. alright. Should invest in some proper plates, no one wants to eat off chopping boards. Wasn't given a steak knife with mixed grill. Let's hope it improves.

Nice place good decor and friendly staff but the food is a very basic level I had the Sunday roast the Yorkshire pudding was stodgy and cold, the roast potatoes are very tough and not crispy on the outside and definitely not fluffy on the inside, but to there credit the beef was pink in the middle but unfortunately it was covered in a brown slop that I can't bring myself to call gravy. I can see this might be a nice cafe but a restaurant it is not. I would go back but would have to choose wisely from the menu for something there ambition can achieve.

6 of us, great burgers, cocktails, desserts, service, atmosphere and price. Can't fault it, quirky and comfy!

Really enjoyable experience. We had two babies with us high chairs were provided. The restaurant was really different comfortable and decorated with all things your a fan of Minions, The Hulk, Spiderman etc. Only thing I that the burger was a little dry. Really enjoyed the whole experience though and will be going back soon.

Lovely to see the provision of some activities for children - really appreciated that. My biggest moan though is the website talks about the lovely cakes that they have. We came to a CAFE to have a cup of tea and a piece of cake but when we arrived in the early afternoon, having brought some family that are not that mobile, I was told they do not do cakes. This is, frankly, very poor and very little in the way of apology was offered. It won't stop me potentially returning but the website really does need to be updated and the manager should have come over to say sorry.

We decided to book this for ten as a birthday meal. We weren't disappointed especially with two year old grandchildren to amuse. The service was very good and the food was exceptional. I can recommend the pumpkin tortellini and can't wait to go back again for more.

I appreciate that the business is new and therefore costs may be limited; I was, however, somewhat disappointed upon my arrival to the cafe as the decor was very minimalistic and didn't feel "fandom"- with a few small exceptions. I was surprised to see just one corner with some books and Harry Potter decorations and no other noticeable homage to others. It would be nice if perhaps each table could be themed? Or for each area to be themed with more intricate detail? I think that just a few more dedicated to each area would make a real difference. The food was good but the service somewhat hindered. I realise that this is probably as it was a quiz night so I didn't mind and understood. All in all, I would love to come again but it would be a better experience if it were to be heightened by a more thorough decor. The music selection I did really enjoy.

A great little new restaurant that is developing and improving all the time. Quirky and fun with really tasty food

We attended for the quiz night and ooh wow, what a fab place. This is my 4th or 5th visit and I still love it. The decor is awesome, cocktails are the best and the quiz was so much fun. Thoroughly recommended for a good night out.

First visit to this wonderful cafe. Such polite attentive staff. Very reasonably priced. The decor is fab a nd so is the food!

This place is retrofunktastic , we called in after my wife came in for a mid week coffee.

Only been able to get an order once and turned away after being seated inside the restaurant. The burgers were amazing and the reason we have tried to use or visit a couple of times. But today is the last time we'll try them, sick of being let down. As new business their idea of customer service is appalling.

We have only been able to get an order through Deliveroo once. When we did the food was fantastic and reason we have tried to visit and re-order since with no luck. Today we tried to order again for it to be cancelled again.

This 'off the beaten track' gem is great for both informal dining and drinkies.

As a lifelong Doctor Who and burger fan this place is like an amazing fever dream. I've eaten something different here each time I've visited in the last couple of months and the food has always been great. I've recommended to and visited with friends, family and colleagues and they've loved it too.

Decor and staff were perfect. Imo though the burger patties were too tightly packed when made, over cooked and very tough. The fries were also over cooked so the meal felt dry overall. The coloured buns were fun, the servings were huge, onion rings were great and the atmosphere was brilliant. If I was going solely for a burger I would pick the Hyde Park over Fandom as they are juicy and the chips are always perfect. So if these improved in the future I would go regularly. Phil

Loved the decor the friendly welcome and the large large burgers. People attracted here are into dr who superman etc so are not noisy or horrible. Good music in the background and people chatting and enjoying a cocktail or two with food

Service was fantastic. Kind, friendly and helpful. Aesthetically pleasing with plenty of amazing "Fan Tat" as I call it. Food was Ok. Starters were definitely the highlight with a lovely garlic and mushroom soup. Main left a little to be desired but then the Chefs/menu is still finding it's feet. Otherwise, had a lovely evening and was a nice way to spend a 2 year anniversary. Would most certainly go again... More likely for Coffee/Brunch next time.

An extremely confusing venue. A superior wine list,which is reasonably priced. The best onion rings I have ever had. The menu is rather misleading. The fish was light, perfectly cooked and flavourful, served seasonal vegetables. The chicken burger was tasty and substantial, although the bun was not toasted or brioche. The tea selection was good (cornish tea).

We ate there when the Cafe was newly open. The staff were as helpful as it is possible to be. We had (blue) Beast burgers and desert and all the food was excellent. This has to be probably the coolest cafe in Plymouth.

We met friends here for an evening meal, we were shown to our table by a lovely waitress. The decor is brilliant very well thought out, it's relaxing, brilliant for austic children and adults. The tardess is a great idea aswell as the quiet corner to sit read and chill out.

The fandom theme is conveyed throughout the restaurant and the menu. You can definitely see that the owners, and their staff, have put lots of effort into the decor. I have noticed some have critised this in other reviews but this is what makes them different from any other bog standard food joint in Plymouth. The place oozes character and charm! It's a relaxed atmosphere that is also clean and comfortable - what more could you want?

Popped into this place on a whim with a friend before a night out and loved it, it's so different and unique, I had the seafood platter and it was amazing, you get so much food for the price, would really recommend this place if you're looking for good food and atmosphere!

Had a fantastic meal for three, including a child with special dietary needs, and thoroughly enjoyed every last bit! Nothing was too much trouble for the kitchen staff, and the communication was excellent - always a worry when eating out with someone with allergies. The Hulk, Pikachu and Beast burgers are all great, good honest food that's not ashamed to be a belly-buster! If you can clear the plate, you've done well!

I've been here a few times and it's been pretty great. The decor is fabulous and the different clubs and events look like a great idea.The cocktails were great, especially the Sloe Gin Mojito!!! I also had a latte and dessert on a seperate visit. The lemon posset was amazing and I had one of the nicest coffees ever.

Well.... what can I say other than fantastic!! First visit and will definitely be back. Hulk burger was phenomenal. Hobbit stew.. amazing.. chicken run pie... outstanding!! Overall great decor and friendly service. Will be back to try out more of the food..

Menu isn't over priced offering both quality and quantity, with some very unique burgers that makes food fun but without making it silly. I had the Hobbit stew as it was a cold day.. My husband had the hulk burger well it was definitely green and instead of a burger patty it arrived with a 6oz steak in the middle with a fried egg.. Well he was in carnivorous heaven cooked the way he liked it slightly with a pulse(rare) it was phenominal in flavour every single bite and satisfyingly filling.. Staff are fantastic making you feel welcome and not rushing you out the door. The decor is amazing and little hidden jems around the place that no photo will really do it justice. As you have to check it out for yourself. It's unique with oversized chairs and throws an oversized bookcase where you feel as if you could sit in a corner and read for hours whilst enjoying a coffee taking in the marina on a sunny day..It's modern and fresh and showcases some spectacular quirky art from the movie and book world.. A must visit if your in Plymouth.. I can't recommend cafe fandom high enough. If you a film buff a book enthusiast or just love good food and chilling with friends well this is the place.. We came across this place during a very busy Pirate theme weekend on the Barbican. Our usual haunts were so busy we looked elsewhere and came across this place.

Behind the Marina Bar, in the building that worked so well as Bistro Bene, then lingered on as Dolphin Brazzerie and after that foundered. Now it is a completely different, basing itself on movie and superhero themes and graphics, carrying it through into the food choices, eg dyed green bread for burgers. But to be fair they have also sorted out a parallel menu with tasty locally sourced fish and meat dishes as well as adequate veggie choices. The crew is very welcoming and friendly and there seems to be a healthy following already. We will be back with mates to see how it is shaking down.
