My HK friends wanted to try out this place and I was not disappointed! It is a hole in the wall sort of restaurant, most people eating are locals or workers getting a quick, cheap and easy meal during their lunchbreaks, but I can see why they'd choose this place! It's run by the family and everything feels very authentic and you can see them prepare your order right in front of you as there's no separation from the kitchen. Maybe some people would prefer something a bit more formal, but for a bunch of friends who were missing some good Cantonese food for not too expensive prices this was great. I got their HK milk tea which was deliciously refreshing and sweet, the market street platter and noodles with fried chicken. Their fried chicken is really great, captures that HK essence perfectly. The food here is not meant to be that special or unique, but it is the real deal. And all for super cheap too! I love this place and will definitely be returning when I come to Newcastle again, I recommend it to all my friends!

Firstly, how the heck is there only one other trip advisor review?! It's been years since I've visited Hong Kong but I'll always remember how good the food there was and Pop Up Wok represents Cantonese brunch and streetfood so well! And the service from the owners and staff is always perfect! I'll try and list all my faves from their menu. Starting with drinks you can't go wrong with either a Hong Kong style milk tea or Hong Kong style lemon tea, they are the perfect accompaniment to your meal. Their Red Bean Ice is really nice too! The brunch is a must! I love how they cook their scrambled eggs and pan fried chicken cutlet with honey, combined with toast its the perfect combo. You wouldn't expect it to be so yummy as its so simple but honestly its super delicious! The yummiest street food is their curry fish balls (it might not sound like a good combo if you've never tried it but it is one of the most popular HK streetfoods for a reason!) I also love their dumplings and their pan fried radish cake aka lo bak go ( in my opinion its the best in Newcastle). In terms of dessert my favourite is Hong Kong Style French Toast, a must if you love peanut butter. ( I even tried to make this at home and was nowhere near as yummy as the one at pop up wok) Its also the perfect amount for sharing! Their golden buns and red bean soup are also nice desserts although its been a while since I had them as the French Toast is sooo good! Considering the difficulties travelling at the moment if you want a taste of Hong Kong be sure to check out Pop Up Wok. My recommendation is to go with a friend or two, get a build your own brunch each and then a street food combo to share and enjoy. Thank you Pop Up Wok for bringing the yummiest HK food to Newcastle! <3

Food is fine. Staff are always arguing with eachother though, it's like walking back to a domestic that you're not welcome in.

The usual banquet was had by us ( 4 at this sitting ) No need to really go on about anything in particular as everything from the prawn crackers, chicken and sweetcorn soup, aromatic duck in pancakes and the 4 different main courses we had were delicious. The service was its usual efficient and friendly way. Priced at better value than most restaurants on Stowell Street, it is always our go to restaurant. Well done again.

Ordered chicken curry fried rice and a portion of wantons. Expensive for what it was fried rice was cold and wantons weren't wantons they were over fried and what ever was inside was raw. Wantons are mini spring rolls these were not. Will not be using them in a long time.

Absolutamente vergonzoso. Cero estrellas si pudiera.
