Regular customer over many years Food has always been of quality at a reasonable price. Phone or make contact early though, as customer demand is high Pleased the road bollards on Osbourne Avenue have now been removed to allow access down from Osbourne Road. In summary, highly recommended

Eastern meadow is a classic jesmond staple. The owner is super friendly and is always a pleasure to deal with. Food is always really enjoyable, fairly priced and normally served extremely quickly. Not sure what else you’d need to know never had a bad meal from here and definitely hots the spot when you fancy a cheeky takeaway. Only thing to note is they only take cash.

We have been using this Chinese for many years but no more...!!!!! food was not piping hot as it should be and always has been, ribs had a sour funny smell and didnt taste right, rang to say I was returning meal. to be told it had taken me 40 mins to complain and return,considering the traffic getting back there was nose to tail all I can say is they have lost a very good customer

I have used this chinese for quite a few years but the last visit was very very disappointing both meals were thick of oil and the extra portions of onions ect were full of carrots?? Why?? Curry was very salty too as a treat we wasted 30+£

As a professed lover of chinese food, I had to give Eastern Meadow a go as a student desperate for my takeaway fix. Unfortunately, it just didnt live up to expectations. Pros: Delivered to my door Reasonably Fast (within 40 mins of ordering on friday night) Slightly (only just) cheaper than alternatives Cons: Hard Salt & Pepper Chicken Food wasn't warm (had definitely been sat for a while) Just didnt have that MSG deliciousness that i was after My loyalty unforunately lies with Acorn Rd Chinese forever now.

I’d heard great things from people at work that this was the best chinese takeaway in Newcastle so I went out of my way and did 30 mile round journey to give it a try. Not sure if I just picked the wrong dishes or caught them on a bad night but the salt and pepper chicken was dry and bland, my girlfriend got the crispy chilli beef in Cantonese sauce which was a bit better but nothing really special. Honestly I can’t see what all the fuss is about

I've had takeaways from eastern meadow for almost 20 yrs now..partic like their large pancake rolls, crispy duck and young chow fried rice. the set meals are good value..thoroughly recommend

Thought we’d give this place a try through a friends recommendation. Ordered a few meals from here now and have never been disappointed. Always spot on with their delivery times. Food is delivered hot and portions are generous. I’m especially pleased with the service tonight, delivery guy took the money (I’d given him a tip) and he knocked back on the door to tell me I’d given him too much. I said I know I have but he said I’d given him way too much. I’d actually given him an extra tenner as well as a tip and he was honest enough to tell me!!! I’ll continue to order from here and continue to tip!!!

It's a shame this isn't on Just Eat as they'd do much better as their own website is limited and amateur ( a photographs taken of the menu whcih isn't complete). I found the guy behind the counter a little awkward and curt. A more friendly person behind the counter would also increase custom I imagine. The standard of the food is average, nothing spectacular. the portion size was reasonable. The BBQ ribs were a bit ropey and low quality but all in all an OK meal. NOt sure what was going on with the WonTons as well, triangle tasteless bits of over-done pastry seemingly Their prices are fairly standard and the food was served worryingly speedily so I would question the freshness of it. I'll not be rishing back here but on the other hand I shaln't be avoiding it for any reason. Just another average decent reasonable chinese take away. Runwell is better service and quality.

I've been coming here for years, only just occurred to me to review. Food is great quality, maybe a little expensive for some but you get what you pay for. It's close to Rehills so you can get any extras of alcohol on your way home.

I tried this takeaway after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and it was close to the hotel I was staying in. Ordered the Crispy Lemon Chicken with fried rice. It was delicious and portions were generous. Good value.

Always great, always tasty. Cannot recommend highly enough. It takes a 15 minute drive to get there from my house. And worth it. Pop in to Rehills opposite to get some tasty beers. Tried multiple other takeout/delivery restaurants and none are as good.

I thought I'd reviewed this but couldn't find my review. 12 yrs ago, I lived in the same street as this takeaway and ordered all of the time. The food was always consistently excellent with quality, generous ingredients and it was the best I'd ever tasted. 12 years on and after living and travelling all around the world, I can report that this place is still the same! Fantastic. I'm happy to be back and a customer once again. Eastern Meadow doesn't have any rivals in my eyes. My husband and I often used to say, "Ahh, remember the Eastern Meadow?" and every time we had a takeaway from elsewhere, "It's no Eastern Meadow!"If you haven't tried it you should but don't get in my way at opening time on Fridays!

Massive portions, freshly cooked, huge list of dishes, great value for money, what more could you want ?

We'd been living in Jesmond for a while and kept walking past this place, thinking it didn't look like anything special. But after a long day at work and too knackered to cook, we decided to give it a whirl. Glad we did - it's absolutely delicious! As vegetarians, it's sometimes tricky to find enough options, but we went with the vegetarian set menu and it was perfect. Portions are huge too, so plenty for the next evening's dinner! Only thing to remember is to take cash, as they don't accept cards.

Recently moved to the area and had family down to visit. Went to order food and had to wait 1hr - but on a Saturday night - expected that! Very much worth the wait - delicious food, flavoursome and the best Chinese curry I've ever had!! Worth a visit!

Recently moved to the area and Eastern meadow is our local Chinese takeaway so decided to try it out. Don't be put off by the outside appearance as it really is a hidden gem. Large choice of meals on the menu and all freshly cooked to order so you may have to wait for it to be made. I've ordered numerous times since and I've never been disappointed. The only downside if I had to pick one would be that it's slightly pricier than other takeaways and it's not available on just eat but nevertheless an excellent takeaway I'd definitely recommend

The food is always of the highest quality. I don't think i have ever had a bad meal from here. Just a friendly warning this place gets very busy just after opening so get in quick o wait for an hour or so after opening. Crispy shredded chicken is amazing. I have tried a lot of Chinese takeaways and this is by far the best

Good quality ingredients and generous portions. Everything is made to order and no pre-bought items used, for example fresh chicken breast chunks are used and not the reformed muck.

I have tasted many chinese takeaways across newcastle and none has come anywhere near the Eastern Meadow. Try the crispy shedded chicken in cantonese sauce or the cantonese sweet and sour chicken another favourite chicken chow mein with satay sauce (mind its hot ). Eastern Meadow is five star in my opinion.

As veggie Chinese food goes, this is definitely the best take away iv been to. No soggy vegetables and the flavours are amazing!

Was looking online for a decent Chinese takeaway and after reading the reviews decided to order our food. Was slightly disappointed to learn that they wouldn't deliver to our area of Newcastle which was only 3 miles but that didn't put us of so decided to pick up the order.I like to keep it simple when eating Chinese and opted for the sweet and sour chicken balls with chips and the wife and daughter went for the chicken chow mein. All the dishes were ready when we arrived plus a bag of prawn crackers, so with these in hand we beat a hasty retreat back home . First impressions less perhaps for some extra onions in the chow mein it looked like any other Chinese take away. On tasting the chicken balls the batter was lighter in texture and the sauce was a bit deeper in flavour. and the wife and daughter did mention that their meals were tasting a bit fresher but chips were like any other Chinese take away chip but tge the experience was not an earth shattering one and didn't warrant the extra mileage. If this is on your door step it would be foolish to go else where as I won't in the future from my local one. An ok takeaway selling ok food

Enjoyed another takeaway from this great establishment last night, in a word delicious. We have had takeaways from Eastern Meadow dozens of times since moving to Jesmond 5 years ago, and without exception everyone has been perfect.Their food is way better than your run of the mill takeaway, every dish is colourful, full of quality prawns, chicken etc, always piping hot and packed with flavour. We are lucky its so close to us, we would drive miles though to get here if need be. Don't let the usual basic frontage put you off in the least bit, its the food that counts and it really does. Highly recommended!!

I was flicking through the rankings looking for somewhere to go when I saw Eastern Meadow. I haven't had one in a while and it was delicious. Absolutely delicious!

This Cantonese takeaway is quite simply the best we have ever been to, we have been looking for a nice takeaway for some time and came across this takeaway on trip advisor, what a hidden gem, gorgeous food, great service, #1.

We are spoilt with high excellence takeaways in Jesmond and Eastern Meadow is one of them. First of all they don't use as much MSG as other Chinese takeaways and their range of fish and meats are all of excellent quality. The overall consistency across their full range of dishes is impressive. Basics like special curry, aromatic crispy Duck and sweet and sour pork are all exceptional. Book early though because an hour wait is normal but Daniel always smiles!

The best Cantonese takeaway food We have ever tasted. We live in London, whenever we come to Newcastle, we get a takeaway from here. Simple. Been coming here for years, will be coming here for years to come.

The food is gorgeous. The menu is, of course, nothing special; cantonese food is what it is but is cooked to perfection. I have been using this for years and I doubt I'll ever move to another. It is reasonably priced, quick delivery, and the delivery man is really canny.

I'm glad this is our local take away. The food is always delicious, and you can create your own dishes at no extra cost.

Prompted by all the 5* reviews I thought I'd give this another go , after a gap of a few years. It must surely have improved. Oh no it hasn't!It's on the pricey side but if it's 5* it would be worth it - not!They deliver for £1:50, but not as promptly as they said they would.The hot-sour soup appeared to be based on the same hot-sour powder mix as every other takeaway Chinese uses. The aromatic crispy duck was mostly moist, generous but not out of the ordinary. The salt and pepper spare ribs were huge, tasty but coated in a sort of batter, rather than just sprinkled with salt a pepper.The big disappointment came with the main courses. Don't be fooled by the pictures on the website, what appears is far from the delicate and fresh-looking dishes on their front page. We had the king prawns in chilli and sesame oil. The king prawns were fresh-tasting (frozen?) and engulfed in the usual gloop, bulked out with carrots and large chunks of onion. There was no discernible taste of chilli or sesame oil. We also had the beef with fresh ginger and spring oil. it was virtually identical, except that there were slices of slightly slimy beef instead of king prawns. There was no taste of fresh ginger. There were, however, occasional bits of spring onion, which were far outweighed by the great chunks of carrot and cooking onion. Both were thickened with ?cornflour? and indistinguishable on blind-tasting.In summary, ok-ish Chinese take-away with nothing to mark it out from most of the others, apart from the price and the attractive website. I certainly wouldn't go five yards out of my way to use this place over any other. I've still got the MSG thirst 14 hours later

I've lived in Jesmond for 21 years and have always ordered Chinese from here. It has always been ran by the same man (who doesn't seem to have aged) and the food has never failed to impress. It is more expensive than your average Chinese but you get what you pay for. The meat is of a good quality, the sauces fresh and tasty and the portions huge. It also has hygeine awards so there is no fear about cleanliness - unlike many other takeaways. The opening times are fairly late with last orders being about 11.30 and 12 on Fridays and Saturdays so I often come here if I feel peckish after work.

I've been eating from Eastern Meadow for several years now. As a student, I lived with Chinese and Malaysian people who cooked for me all the time so I know what real Chinese food tastes like. I have tried several Chinese takeaway places in the area and this is definitely the best. Food from Eastern Meadow is of a consistently high standard. The shop is clean and ordered and has won several hygiene awards. The owner of the shop is always there and keeps a close eye on the kitchen. He personally deals with your order, whether it is take away or delivery and food is always well presented and well packed. We've never been charged for prawn crackers and extra portions of anything are very generous. He even gave us a bottle of wine at Christmas, which was much appreciated. You feel valued as a regular customer.

The best we're the prawn crackers and the raw cumcumbers! How wrong can u go with noodles! Indeed they were half cooked!!! The duck was dry coarse n inedible, the chicken tasted coarse and like it was re cooked. The spring roll although was meant to contain meat , non was present.....saying this is the best Chinese in Newcastle has left me feeling fooled by the other reviews.

Andyw78 your banter is spot on! I would say exactly the same- this place has to be one of the best in Newcastle! My top tip is get the Hong Kong Style Sweet and Sour Prawns... fabulous.

Rapid delivery, reasonable prices, big portions. Can you really ask anymore from a Chinese takeaway? The food we ordered was delicious. Our new go to Chinese! Definitely recommend.

After 6 months failing to find a good take away on the west side of the city. We were in need of a good sunday night treat. Dont go anywhere else call the eastern meadow. It is a little more expensive, however it is worth the 14 mile round trip. Get the chrispy seaweed and char su pork and salt an chilli ribs.....mint

You could be forgiven if you arrive here and are put off firstly because it's in a side street and not the most appealing shop and the guy at the till is a little straight laced however, scarily efficient. Eastern Meadow has the usual vast menu but their curry sauce is unique in all of the dishes but try their very crispy aromatic Duck and the fu yung and sweet and sour dishes the batt is crunchy. They also serve lovely fresh chips and amazing oversized chop Suey rolls.
