Pop-pins in Tendring

We visited Pop Pins twice in August. What an adorable place to eat ice cream and talking of ice cream, you will be spoilt for choice ! There is a wide range of desserts and sandwiches etc all in a very pretty building. There are even sand and seashells along the front windowsill, how cute ! The cafe is small but there is seating outside and a lovely courtyard out the back that is so lovely. Pastel painted walls and pretty garden seats and cushions along with flowers. Such a lovely place to eat and meet with friends and family. The portions are big too. I wish i lived in Frinton so i could visit here every week. Ps theres a toilet too and the staff are very nice.

Love this place. Came for the first time last week and returned today with friends and family as it was so good. Food was delicious. So much choice ! Waffle was really good - soft and fresh and with generous toppings and my daughter’s strawberry sundae was lovely. Sandwiches were equally as good. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. When ordering, we asked for two mermaid cakes and they accidentally gave us mermaid shakes instead. They were very generous and let us keep the shakes . Attention to detail and presentation of the desserts and shakes is just so appealing. Will definitely be coming back again soon .

Real let down. I have walked past many a time so thought today I’d go in… the waffle was quite clearly a packeted shop-bought waffle, not cooked fresh. It was hard and overpriced at £8.50! Staff were of fish like they didn’t want to be there

Went there today for a lunch with friends. As always fantastic choice of food and very friendly staff. The service is very quick. And their chocolate milkshake is a good old fashioned one, not out of a bottle, and is delicious. Its one reason to go to this place. Cannot rate this place highly enough. Good food, lovely staff and clean.

My Granddaughter and I had a wonderful lunch today. A lovely setting and spotlessly clean. What made it such a great time was the full Gluten Free Menu! There's not many places that I can take her to eat and it was so lovely to see able to choose from a full size menu, Toasties, desserts and really yummy milkshakes. Treat yourself to a fantastic lunch, snack or a yummy ice cream. Thank you to all staff for making use really welcome.

Called in on a warm October day for 3 ice-creams. Noticed that they were priced at £3.50 -expensive but perhaps something special? Answer alas was ‘nothing special at all’! Small scoop of ice cream and an old cornet..I’m afraid £10.50 was an absolute rip-off. I can only hope that this was a one-off and perhaps we’d just picked the wrong day.

Went to Colchester Poppins today for the first time. Friend had cod and chips, I had the brunch meal. All meats on mine were burnt beyond recognition and made it difficult to chew and swallow. Chips undercooked on both plates. She enjoyed her cod but the peas were cold. Service was very slow. Best thing was the milkshakes.

Nice food but staff member verrry offish made my stepdaughter cry..and shes only 10...not what i would expect from such a nice place for kids....big letdown...keep your kids away from here🤬🤬🤬

We love it here great music great food just can’t try it all in one visit so coming back tomorrow for dessert. Friendly lively place to eat

My favourite sandwich is the brie, rocket and caramelized onion. Never had anything like it before, highly recommend it. Staff always friendly and helpful.

A great treat, really enjoyed my ice cream and what lovely decor inside, warmed my old little heart to listen to some older style music and created a calming atmosphere.

The waffles here are delicious, they are exceptional, way better than the likes of Kaspa’s, can’t wait until I visit the area again to have another!

Another new tradition for me - an ice cream from here on my every visit to lovely Frinton whether I have been in the sea for a swim or not! I love the branding and the colours and the team all ooze joy and magic 💕

Just had a waffle here. What a wonderful place! Staff very friendly, decor excellent, food delicious, the dog even got a bowl of water! Cannot fault it! Wish we had one in Lincolnshire! Will definitely be back when we’re in the area.

A bright, airy, fun and colourful kind of place in the middle of a busy high street. Decent menu and a menagerie of shakes, ice creams and sweets to entice those sugary desires. Mrs Hobo loved the huge latte served up and enjoyed some low...

Venue is themed beautifully retro American diner and impeccably clean. Excellent, helpful, friendly staff. Menu is mainly ice cream, donuts, sweet treats but great selection of savoury snacks, panini, bagels, toasties etc with amazing array of fillings. All types of shakes, coffees, floaters, teas, etc....

My wife and I came to Frinton and fancied a bite to eat. The cafes at the top of the high street were busy and crowded so we kept walking and came across Poppins. Lovely staff and a wide choice of food and drink. Great...

During COVID and a stormy day, we had to cancel the beach party but poppins saved the day as welcome me and the 5 children (from same bubble) in their parlour. They had a fantastic time and with 1 hour notice that took the time...

Lovely place. Full of excitement and options for the kids. SO many options; ice cream, dessert, milkshakes, and all combinations. Also the sandwiches and tea for adults was well above average in taste and quality. COVID rules followed with no reduction in friendly service.

Recently popped in for coffee with a friend. Lovely friendly place and the most amazing seats, so comfy.

We visit a lot of ice cream shops and sadly this one can’t compare to some of the fantastic places we’ve tried (see other reviews). The staff were friendly but the variety of ice cream and portion size for price paid left us all feeling a bit disappointed.

Julie and her staff work very hard to succeed in making Poppins a complete joy to eat in and it just is. The food is tip top, try the cappuccino it is the best and the waffles and the sundaes, the list goes on. Coming in with a toddler no problem, coming in with a fussy mum no problem, a vegan! they will cater for all. Everyone is shiny and smiley and happy. We love to see how it is going to be decorated next, the displays created are excellent and incredibly creative. We have been coming here since it opened, why would you go anywhere else?

Arrived 10 minutes before closing and weren't allowed to sit down or order. Shame as the kids wanted some easter cake and icecream. Uninviting service.

We called late on a busy Saturday afternoon but we received really good service and the coffee and cakes were a nice treat.

Visited today for coffee with my husband, I was in my wheelchair today but had to get out of the chair and stagger inside as they had a table right inside the shop door. I ask you can no room be left for someone with a chair to be pushed in to the shop? The coffee was very nice however there are other shops more obliging towards wheelchair users than this. I realise each table is profit making but come on have some thought for the not so fit. This was about 3pm on Saturday and were not all that busy, Even when husband helped me in to a seat nobody asked do you need any help there. Have only this year had to use a chair and realise now how to some you become non existent in a chair,

I visit pop-pins frequently as it is very close to where I work. The customer service is always excellent and they are always happy with smiles on their faces. Service is always quick. The food is amazing. The sandwiches are completely worth the money and so are the panini‘s are also amazing !! Best sandwich shop in Frinton

Staff are always friendly , I’m always acknowledged when I come in . Waffles are amazing and I love the atmosphere . I will be coming back for lots more visits !

I came here for a birthday treat for one of my foster children.

We have used Pop-pins for many years now and have always enjoyed the quality and friendliness that is a feature. The staff are always welcoming and helpful and the food is well presented. Cleanliness is first class and this can be seen in the way that the ingredients are stored. Unusual in that bagels are on offer together with bread and paninis and any combination of fillings are available.

We visit Frinton on a regular basis and on Christmas Eve we had a lovely stroll along the shopping area. As it was cold and we had the dog in the car we opted to get a takeaway hot chocolate from, Pop-pins. We had had ice cream from there previously which was gorgeous so had high expectations for a scrumptious creamy hot chocolate. Very disappointed - we had to wait for a while for the assistant to take our order, and waited far longer than was necessary to get our drink. It wasn't busy in there but the service was really lacklustre. After a longish wait, we paid £5.30 for two drinks and went back to the car which was parked outside the shop (nice décor inside by the way - very American diner) got in the car and opened the paper cups only to find the hot chocolate was neither hot (I would say just on the verge of lukewarm nor was it tasty. In fact it tasted like it was a very cheap instant chocolate made with hot water and topped up with cold milk. Given the competition in the area, Pop-pins seems to "say all the right things" but falls short in service and quality.

Lovely clean eaterie. pleasant helpful staff. we only had sandwiches, but they were well filled, nicely presented, and lovely fresh bread. The cakes are also very tempting, and they too are delicious. Great choice of background music, plenty of vintage photos adorn the walls, feels very much like a 50`s american coffee bar. It really works, we will definitely return.

This has always been a great little café with loads of ice creams, smoothies, milkshakes, coffee tea etc but the new décor is really spot on 1960's. It is a lovely place for all ages, mums and toddlers through to more elderlys just having a rest and a read of a paper.

Nice friendly atmosphere, I have popped into pop -ins frequently and every time was a great experience. However, this is my first review. I am hooked on the smoked salmon and cream cheese panini, also the tuna melt. Lovely coffee too. While my Grand children love the shakes and ice cream, toasted peanut butter sandwiches and toasted tea cakes.

If you love Ice Cream, this is a real treat for you! Great variety of luscious flavours to savour.Me? I pop in for the occasional cuppa and one of their great Tea Cakes. The only thing I think they could do is add a few more choices of cakes as often the cake display is near empty. Very friendly welcoming and helpful staff. A joy to pop into!

Stayed in frinton over Xmas, took 3 kids to pop pins and they loved it .twins loved the smoothies and ham and cheese bagels ,hubby loved his toastie and waffles ,even though they were really busy nothing was too much trouble for them ,both girls were very lovely so a really happy healthy new year to u all x

I ordered a tub of raspberry and lemon sorbet. I've never tasted anything quite as chewy as what I purchased at this place. Personally I'd never go back and order sorbets there again. I realise that gum arabica is added to ice cream but this was really not good. Very disappointing.

The decor is fun and fab....... And great section of ice creams.....kids loved it and so did I (big kid).

My sister and I came here after a day out in frinton and seeing the amazing milkshakes here on trip advisor. Let's just say that looks can be deceiving. My sister ordered the malteaser milkshake and when we tried it we struggled to find even a trace of malteaser in it! It was just plain milk (I didn't think that a small amount of milk in a paper cup costed £3.20!) I had the Jaffa cake one and it was better but could only just taste the chocolate and orange. I would recommend you not to go to this place and go to somewhere like shakeaway (if there is one near you) for more milkshakes that have more flavour and are a lot bigger and thicker and cheaper than this poor excuse for a 'milkshake'.

We have been here twice recently and I am sorry to say that neither time was a big success. We only had coffee and a nibble each, but the coffee was luke warm and the french bread/pastry tired... as though the bread in particular was the day before's bake. We first went there when they first opened with our granddaughters, and they had a really good time foodwise, but now, like so many food places, itseems as though it is struggling and cutting a few corners.. sorry but that how we found it...

It was great to get a hot cup of coffee in the UK, which is very usual. This is such a treat. It was also very flavoursome, also the best one from this point of view. Ice Creams also great. Staff very pleasant &amp; personable.

We stopped at Pop-pins for lunch. We had a brie, rocket and caramelised onion pannis and then a waffle to share. My husband had originally requested a french stick but they had run out. My husband also had a banana milkshake which he said was great. I really like the decor and the photos they have hung up around the place. They have some great sandwich fillings to choose from. Overall, a nice little cafe with a good range of choice.

I am having to write on Trip Advisor to warn other customers about the service in Poppins so that they aren't caught out like we have been. The shop make excellent milk shakes but although they are "open" until 4.30pm they actually stop service milk shakes and waffles by 4.15pm at the latest. Sadly they do not seem to want customers and lost 6 teenage customers today. Their loss and it is not the first time; the first time I even called to check the time that they closed and said that we would want milkshakes. Surely if a shop is open until 4.30pm they should serve everything on the menu until that time, rather than picking and choosing ie only take away ice-creams. They should then tidy and clean after 4.30pm. So frustrating that I am taking to Trip Advisor in the hope of them taking note this time.

The ice cream here is lovely and the coffee is also great, It is an American style diner and the staff seem nice, worth a visit.

Just popped in with my grandson for an ice cream. He had a large mango sorbet (his favourite) and I had a sundae. Both excellent: not cheap but value for money.

We have had lunch here several times over the past few months. The selection of fillings for bagels or baguettes is great. Coffee and cakes also good quality. It's not cheap, particularly the ice creams but the atmosphere is relaxed and we keep going back.

£5 per sundae. I really do feel conned.All you get is 2 scoops of ice cream a bit of sauce and squirty cream. Oh and 2 wafers. Save your money and get an extra large cone down Connaught Ave. Ok ambience but a rip off. I live locally and this is a shame.

We visit this little parlour on a fairly regular basis when we come to visit the parents. It has a touch of the 50's American style to it with an English twist. Friendly staff that always want to do the utmost for you. Any request is possible with a great selection of ices available. They also do cones, tubs, shakes, and larger ice creams. A brilliant service and and even better ice cream!

Friendly service and a good range of snack options - and of course fantastic range of ice cream flavours. A good cappuccino - not to be sniffed at either.

the ice cream flavours promised to be great - I loved the sound of Jaffa cake but the flavor was actually quite indistinct. the Sundaes are basically sauce, whipped (aerosol) cream and a couple of biscuits - so not sure worth the effort. Absolutely fine but nothing exceptional. If they were to invest into a whippy ice cream machine and top their sundaes with that instead of artificial cream - then that would be worth travelling for. Some homemade sauces and interesting biscuits - that would improve beyond what anyone else is doing. Nice clean environment and happy helpful staff. The Sandwiches looked very nice.

Popped into Pop-pins for a coffee and cake with my youngest at half term. Lovely the fresh smell of ground coffee when you walk in and the beautiful cakes made on site! Well done Julie. Thanks for looking after us.

I've been here a few times over the years (obviously haven't learned my lesson yet!), I don't think I've seen the staff smile once. If they're busy when you walk in don't expect an acknowledgment or eye-contact; expect to wait until they're ready. Then expect mediocre quality food and drink at high prices.

If you wish for a smoked salmon bagel or a well prepared sandwich then you will not go wrong to call in at Connaught Avenue at this very friendy little cafe.The choice of sandwiches, bagels and paninis is extensive with a very wide range of fillings with any combination possible to meet the most finniky diner!A good selection of cakes and shortbread is also on offer and of course a very extensive range of ice creams which makes the walk to the top of the avenue worth the effort.The cafe is in the form of an American Diner with quiet 1950 and 1960's music playing in the background but fitting for the decor and in no way intrusive.The staff are always friendly and helpful and at times of the year such as Halloween and Chritmas enter into the spirit of the occasion.Prices are reasonable so I have no hesitation in giving Pop-Inns are strong recommendation.

Well....... I have been visiting since my 8 year old boy was a baby! We love Pop-Pins, he has celebrated at least half of his birthdays here, he loves sitting in the window on the tall stalls watching the world go by while slurping on his Monster Milkshake! From cosy days in the winter with a hot chocolate with all the trimmings to a hot summers day with a Knickerboker Glory!!!We Love Pop-Pins!!!

I love this place so much, the staff is so friendly and will cater for you in anything you want, even adding Nutella to a hot chocolate. One of the best things I've ever tasted. Choosing what to have for lunch is always such a hard task as there is so many things to choose from all tasting as good as the last. I would recommend anyone to go here.

Great little 60s eatery serving the best Italian ice cream I've ever tasted. The staff are extremely friendly and very funny giving this unique coffee shop a wonderful atmosphere. We very much like the fact that you can buy just a coffee or you can have a sandwich, a Panini, a waffle with ice cream, a variety milkshake's and some very tasty home-made cakes. Something for everyone. Thoroughly recommended by us!

If you're looking for excellent food, great service and a brilliant atmosphere then this is the place to go.If I'm ever in frinton I generally come here, my lunch time favourites are the chicken bagels, pancakes and coffee cake. There isn't really any other place like it in the Tendring area, specifically for the American diner feel.

Went in for coffee .. Came out a fan !!! This individual shop has a fab retro feel .. It's smart black and white 50s decor is fun .. Great ice cream and sandwiches.. Spotlessly clean and lovely staff .. Will be returning .. Probably too often !!

This is a Lovely place to go for a coffee and slice of cake in the lovely frinton on sea! I visit regularly and the staff are all lovely, very welcoming and helpful! I would recommend to everyone! The ice creams are also delicious as my young sister often tries out the different flavours!

This quirky 1950's inspired milkshake/smoothy bar is such a delight to visit. The setting is perfect, with high stalls at the window, the original 'Mary Poppins' memorabilia, with pictures of Marilyn Monroe/James Dean to really accentuate the style of this place. The staff are always immaculately presented and greet you with a smile. My favourite thing to eat here is a banana and strawberry smoothy, paired with a bacon, brie and cranberry bagel. Sometimes I go for one of their homemade cakes if I'm tempted! On top of this, Pop-Pins always makes an effort to create a magnificent window display every Christmas, winning this year with their carefully crafted nutcrackers that lined the window. Would definitely recommend Pop-pins, never fails to please and provides a much needed twist to the traditional frinton on sea.
