Overall, it was an alright experience. It's not something to shout about, but by no means terrible. The staff were lovely and were very attentive. It wasn't super busy, so it wasn't too hard to keep on top of everything, but they did keep the evening flowing. I had a steak for my dinner, and it was a little overdone for what I wanted. But I ordered med/rare, so I should have ordered rare, and I would have got it as I wanted it. The only slight gripe is that the peppercorn sausage they used looked like it had been sat out for a while. I know that lots of these things are prepared, but it still didn't make me feel good initially. Go there and have a novel experience of cooking your own steak as that's fun. I've seen that before, but be prepared for your own cooking, haha. I couldn't get any phone signal with Vodafone

Came here for our 5th anniversary, having reserved a table from London. Our server, Ellie was amazing. She was very bubbly, cheerful and nothing was too much. My husband, who likes a variety of sauces had Ellie back and forth but she did it all with a smile. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. There were no long delays. Well done to the kitchen!!! The food was great although I did take exception to this retaurant having a dress code (which none of their other customers seemed to pay attention to the night we went). After a long weeks work dressed smartly daily I'd like to relax at the weekends. It's Clacton-on-sea, not the London ritz - just a thought as I'm sure you're limiting your profits having that dress code in place.

The stake was small ,I asked for medium rare and I got medium to well done ,the potatoes were bad and the onion wring where to greasy. So I'm not going in again Honest truth

Terrible value for money. The £18 burger was nothing more than a small, tasteless, frozen meal you could buy from Bookers. My daughter spent almost £60 on what was meant to be a special birthday meal, but the quality was far from nearly £30 per person. To make matters worse, the food took an hour to arrive, despite the restaurant in a BASEMENT being nearly empty. A disappointing experience overall.

Took my son there for his 21st birthday. The service was great they didn't put our order through to the kitchen by accident so they took it again and gave us some drinks on the house and they couldn't stop apologising. The food was really great. My husband said it was the best steak he has had in years. My son had the steak on the stone which you cook yourself and he said it was amazing. I had the chicken burger which was really crispy and moist. The chip were like eating mashed potatoes with a crispy coating. Will definitely be going back and I would recommend it.

So, this restaurant had been mentioned to me for being an up n coming restaurant that’s different to the others locally! And I have to agree.. We decided to come here as a birthday try out, prebooked our table and when we arrived, there’s a Happy Birthday sign on our table, sweet addition and unexpected! So it was a nice touch, we both went for the ‘The Black Rock’ experience and had steak on the rock and have to say we both really enjoyed it! I had the garlic mushrooms to start with which could have done with more garlic but was tasty nevertheless, the service was very good and they were really trying you could tell.. so it’s a thumbs up from us! The cooking your own steak on rock was quite cool and reminded me of a steak fondue in Switzerland.. well worth a try! As an apology for the Prosecco not being cold, they gave me an extra mini bottle for free which was definitely a thumbs up and all forgiven! We’ll be back for sure!

Black rock is easily the best restaurant in the area, I've been many times now and the steaks are absolutely perfect, literally like a knife through butter! The staff are always welcoming and cannot do enough for yourself, this establishment needs more recognition.

We ordered sirloin steaks on the stone with sides. It was probably the best steak I've had. Fun experience of the hot stone where you can cook it to your liking. Service was excellent, offered great recommendations, we were well looked after.

I recently visited this fantastic restaurant, best restaurant I’ve been to, threw miller and carter out of the water completely. Who dosent want to spend half the money for better food and a quality service ? Great value for money the wife loved it gotta keep her happy you know what I mean 😂great portion sizing for my big belly had to be taken out on a stretcher I was that full but over all great restraunt, great food, great staff and a great service!

Nice ambiance. Food well presented and fresh although steaks should be seared more although very tender looked stewed more than charegrilled.

Overall was amazing, staff were amazing, Grace our server was very attentive. Food was 10/10, we had chicken and Chorizo pasta, gorgeous and the salmon was delicious. Highly recommend 5*

The steak was lovely. I had mine on the hot plate & cooked it just how I liked it. The theatre of it all was excellent. The desert was really nice. (Crème Brûlée) They need to pay more attention to anaphylaxis though.

Never been before, great service and great food

Lovely friendly staff that made you feel welcome. Nothing was too much all perfect the portions absolutely amazing and as a family of eight when we attended for my sons 18 th he enjoyed it massively youngest son started pinching at other people's meals since he wanted more absolute delite. Finially when the cake came out the atmosphere of the workers and other visitors around us wishing him a very happy birthday best steakhouse I have ever been to.

Went here few days ago. Had a brilliant experience at this restaurant. From start to the end, the serving and food were fantastic! If you are about to this area, try it! Worth!

Can get quite smoky when the steaks are cooking - perfect if you like a BBQ!

So we had called to specify a garlic allergy and discuss how this can be avoided and yet still wasn't followed. Furthermore the chips were soggy and the mac n cheese was very basic. Such a shame as in restaurant is amazing!

Although they use a lot of bookers items, the food tasted great. A little over priced for clacton and food quality but it was for a birthday party. Service was slow and poor. Asked 5 times for a glass for the jug of water that was on the table. No check back either.

Totally unexpected find, great place, lovely staff and amazing food. Cooking on the hot rock was quite an experience. A must try. Best to book.

We just popped in for dinner and found a lovely little gem, nice artwork and nick nacks creating a great atmosphere. We both had steaks on the stone- Ribeye and surf and turf both delicious- nice serving trays with awesome blue cheese sauce! Highly recommend!

Not disappointed wow the food is out of this world went for my wife's birthday. Our starters of garlic mushrooms and sticky steak bites were lush, we both had steak on the stone, steak was melt in the mouth I especially liked the blue cheese sauce 😋. Our waitress Holly was great attentive without being overbearing (makes a change nowadays) we will definitely come back next time we are in the area.

First time we’ve eaten at this restaurant and I can state with full confidence one of the nicest meals we’ve had. Holly our server was highly efficient and attentive. We both had fillet on the stone which comes with an array of sauces, which could be changed with no issue, price was reasonable for what you get and we left feeling full and satisfied. We will be back!!

We have lived in Clacton for years and never been to Black rock before, we certainly did miss out. We went for a birthday meal for my wife. The atmosphere was great, good choice in music too, we went for the surf and turf rock experience, which was brilliant. The steak comes out on the hot rock and you cook it to how you like your steak. We have to say the food was fantastic. Athough it was very busy the staff were attentive and courteous. Value was really good too. At the end of our meal the staff brought to the table a serving board with happy birthday written in chocolate and two baby Guinness, which was a complete surprise, one of the staff had heard me say happy birthday and did it from that. Really nice thing to do. We will go back on a regular basis. Cant recommend highly enough. Thanks Sandy & Steve

I recently dined at the Black Rock Steak House in Clacton, and I have to say, the presentation of the dishes was truly impressive. The ambiance and service were also pleasant. However, I was quite disappointed with the rump steak I ordered. It was unfortunately full of gristle and inedible bits, which was not what I expected, especially since I've visited this restaurant several times before. To make matters worse, my family members who also ordered the rump steak had similar complaints. It's disheartening to see such inconsistency in the quality of a restaurant we've enjoyed in the past. I hope the management takes this feedback into consideration and works on improving the quality of their rump steaks

I’ve been in a few times and the food has been consistently amazing! So far i’ve tried the ribeye and sirloin on the stone - both absolutely delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very cosy, welcoming and romantic for date nights! Many thanks to all the black rock staff!

On holiday at Clacton and booked a table at the Black Rock Restaurant. I have to say from the outside I didn’t think it was going to be what it was, but we were really glad to have found a hidden gem! We went while children ate free with each adult meal purchased. They didn’t skimp on the food portion for the children and got the thumbs up from both children. They also got a free drink and dish of ice cream! Myself and my partner chose the steak on the block that cooks its self. We’ve never experienced this, so was a fun new experience and I would say it is the best steak I have ever tasted. Lovely decor inside, brilliant food, friendly and helpful staff! 10/10 for us!

This was such a wonderful find. Brought my partner and our two kids for a birthday dinner and we weren't disappointed. Staff were polite, helpful and efficient. My partner's birthday was noted by a 'Happy Birthday' chalkboard waiting on the table and he was offered a celebratory cocktail or dessert which we thought was really thoughtful. Kids ate free as it was before 7pm which meant we were happy to splash out a bit more on us! Food was delicious (much fun having the 'steak on a stone') and everything was served in a timely manner. Zero complaints and 4 very happy (and full) customers! Have already recommended to a friend :)

Professional service, decent cuts of meat, showmanship of hot stone steaks and reasonably priced. What it does do, it does very well, even has a couple of unique beach themed cocktails and desserts we dived into enthusiastically.

Was Really Happy with our experience on the 6/7/23 our waitress was very kind and delivered our drinks and food promptly. 12 of us (6 kids 6 adults) walked in and got seated straight away. It’s doesn’t look like much from the outside but inside it was so lovely! The staff were friendly and the meals were amazing! Best part is the kids all ate for free and the portion sizes and quality of their meals was fantastic! Would definitely recommend

Absolutely disgusting!! Chips were soggy, my children said biting into a chicken nugget was like biting into a rubber. Chicken burger was dry and spicy but the menu never said it was spicy! Most of it turned up cold aswell. Asked for a refund on the selected cold meals, whether I get it or not is another thing. But we won’t be ordering again. The only good thing was my partners burger. But he said his chips were crunchy and had no potato in them where they had been fried for too long! (We had French fries and he had chunky chips) Not going to bother ordering again, and if I were you I’d save your money and get a McDonald’s, probably tastes better. Considering the prices at this place, you would of thought the food would be nice but hey ho.

Down side first.not a lot of parking around area.no wheelchair açcess down stairs only. Once inside it is lovely table laid with birthday banner.food very good perhaps a bit expensive.good staff presented sweet with candles and sung happy birthday. Overall good experience and would use again.

Fillet steak was ordered medium rare on arrival at the table the steak was still cold in centre and was not cooked as requested. Steak was returned to the kitchen to be returned still not up to the required standard. ( The other meal that was ordered was fine). After 2 attempts to get the steak cooked as requested the meal was returned as not further wanted resulting in only one meal being presented The waitress should have escalated the problem to the manager which did not happen and the manager only visited the table when asked for. The situation could have been handled in a more professional manner as the comments made were not conclusive to a good outcome by the manager.

The food and service were fine but the bill at the end of the night was over £200! There were four of us and we were not drinking alcohol. Never going again
