Poncho Khana in Birmingham

The food is old, made ages ago. Chana was old made in the morning. Piaji was not fresh served not crispy.

The food was terrible. They served us old, stale food, which was completely unacceptable. It was a very disappointing experience, and I wouldn’t recommend eating here.

After many years I have been there and reminiscing about old memories. The food was delectable and I enjoyed the ambience as well. I had kala bhuna and shutki, daal and white rice. Alhamdulillah

Absolute brilliant. Being Pakistani, my knowledge of Bangladeshi food is a bit weak. But the brothers here are very helpful. Been here twice already and will keep coming back. Service is excellent. One of the best Bangladeshi restaurants in the UK. Authentic Bangladeshi foods, quite spicy (which makes it awesome), price reasonable with a slightly on the expensive side, clean interior, professional service- overall a great package. Have been there multiple times, and will likely continue to go if they maintain the food quality, price, and services. No dedicated parking but free roadside parking a few of blocks away (challenging to find one though). Overall great experience. Keep it up!

Such an amazing place to be, very fresh food & quick services .Magaj bhuna & beef liver tasted so yummy. Bharta was very tasty but a bit spicy for us. They were so friendly & welcoming , provided complimentary golap jamun, if you are craving for good food, you need to be here

Great food - quite spicy and very authentic!!! We went in on Friday so keep in mind they close for just a little bit during the day for jummah/ Friday prayers - or at least that's what happened when I went. Staff super accommodating, and very speedy service. Wings R a good recommendation

First time trying this bengali restaurant. Food was very flavoursome and service was fantastic. The atmosphere was lovely as they played nasheeds rather than loud music. Prices were fantastic. Will be coming here again soon.

Went for our wedding anniversary but did not announce that to the staff but still got given 5 star treatment with excellent service and delicious food. WOW, JUST WOW!! Staff were amazing, and the food was tantalising. They treated us so well, gave us complementary pakoras. Friendly for niqabi women as they put out a cover for someone in front of our eyes. Treatment was delightful, and the cost was a chefs kiss.

I was visiting Birmingham for a day. Ordered kala bhuna, dried shrimp bhorta and tarka daal from here. I must say this was the best Bangladeshi food I have had in Europe till now. Generous portions for a reasonable price. Also we got some salad and jilapi (sweets) as complementary.

The food was too good, especially the complimentary mutton dish for breakfast was finger licking. Definitely going to visit again for lunch.

What a find!! It appears every time I'm in Birmingham, I have to make a stop here!! I've been here several times with a client of mine and never disappoints. I've tried all of the borthas, the Friday desi roast and pilau, the shutki, the pigeon, the khala bhuna.. I can't rate this place enough. When I'm working away from home and I'm craving 'mums cooking'.. this place always hits the spot!

I ordered food for four people and only three peoples food arrived, I ordered a Tiffin, two fish dishes and the Friday special- the Friday special was for my husband and it did not arrive! Both the fish dishes were flavourless, I couldn’t even taste the flavour of the fish because they were fried and then added to the same sauce. Quite disappointed as I’ve ordered from here about six times now and each time something is going wrong, it costs me nearly £5 between service charge and delivery, so we always hurts but we enjoyed the food. Sadly, I won’t be ordering from here again.

My sister and I had lunch at Poncho's 3 days ago. Unbelievable taste, amazing friendly staff, and clean serene environment. I don't usually leave reviews but that meal was simply magical. 3 days on, I am still thinking about going back. Allahuma Barik to the Poncho team ♥

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing breakfast at Ponchokhana, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. The menu offered a delightful array of classic deshi breakfast options. I opted for the traditional parathas with Beef Kolija,Chana Daal,Gulabzamoon and Paratha with Deshi Cha. The parathas were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, just as they should be. The Beef Kolija and Chana Daal was bursting with flavor, each bite reminding me of home-cooked meals. What truly stood out was the attention to detail in every dish. The dal was rich and creamy and let’s not forget the tea - it was the best I’ve had in a long time, fragrant and robust, providing the perfect end to a satisfying meal. Ponchokhana’s breakfast not only satisfied my taste buds but also provided a comforting sense of nostalgia. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious and authentic deshi breakfast. Authentic Bangladeshi food. Enjoyed the kala beef bhuna. And the chilli and garlic beef was good too. Borthas, just like homemade. Polite and attentive service. Going to go back again and try their fish dishes. Complementary deserts afterwards were really nice. Excellent value for me.

Poor customer service phoned for help on menu didn't provide solution just excuses, missing items on menu such as poppadoms, not a restaurant if theres no poppadoms on menu. Food is tasteless and extortionate, curries very greasy/dripping in oil, no salt and uneccesarily spicy, didn't match description. Requested for refund, very disappointing for a Bengali restaurant!

One of the best Bangladeshi restaurant that offers authentic taste and excellent menu. All the food is halal. This is our go to place to eat bengali food. Highly recommend their beef bhuna, kala bhuna, tarka dal, shutki bhorta, ileesh mas, beef buri and pretty much everything on the menu. Prices are also competitive. Food quality and taste are absolutely fantastic. Their breakfast menu and price of £6.95 is a banger. We havent had better breakfast anywhere else. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of seating and more seating area behind reception which can also be used for events. They have toilet facilities but no baby changing room. They also do sweets and various other bangladeshi savouries which taste good. Next time you are in Birmingham you need to check this place out. If you found this review helpful then a like would be very appreciated.

Food arrived cold with the driver on a bike. All curries had spilt in the bag curry had leaked with a pool of orange oil in the bottom of the bag. All food has been binned and inedible

I ordered kala bhuna today, everything was fine. The taste of kala bhuna is superb. In one word, the food quality is excellent. Specially Desi Test, I highly recommend it to everyone.

We ordered jalfrezi chicken curry, tandoori platter and fish tikka As soon as i had my first bite, I felt as if I was in India. All the dishes were mouthwatering and yummy. We also got vadas and jamuns which was amazing and it was on the house. Believe me, just go and don’t have second thoughts. Service should me mentioned, warm and welcoming service from Thawhid and the whole team. Will definitely visit soon again with our friends.

Visited a number of times this month due to ramadhan. The service is borderline rude and not very professional. This used to be a great restaurant when the owner was about but he rarely comes now and the very young staff seem to see customers as problems

I ordered Roti but they delivered Rice. Last time as well I ordered roti however they delivered Rice. Last time I thought it might be a mistake but they did intentionally which proved from second time same instance. Earlier they are giving sweets with order but no sweets was received.

Ponchokhana Iftar Buffet: Overall a Disappointing Experience, AVOID! A few weeks ago, I decided to take my family to Ponchokhana for a Ramadan iftar buffet. Unfortunately, our overall experience was far from satisfactory. Booking Hassle: We booked online to secure a reservation, considering we traveled over 40 miles to get there. However, upon calling the restaurant before our arrival, we discovered that they hadn’t received our online booking. Thankfully, they managed to accommodate our group of six. Stale Food: The food quality was disappointing. Most items, including phiyaji, kebabs, and chicken wings, seemed old—possibly leftovers from previous days. It appeared they had been reheated in the microwave, resulting in tough and dry textures. The pilaow (biryani) was also lackluster. Limited Fresh Options: Among the offerings, only tea and jalebi stood out as confidently fresh. Everything else left much to be desired. Unpleasant Ambiance: The restaurant crammed too many seats into a small space. The floor was extremely slippery, making it unsuitable for kids or the elderly. In summary, the negatives outweighed any positives. If you want to avoid wasting your money, I recommend looking elsewhere for your iftar experience.

Visited this restaurant with an old friend of mine who highly recommended this place to me. The food was fantastic, the layout is great and spacious. Waiters have manners and are very polite. As an honest reviewer I'd have to say that the waiting time needs improvement to be fair. One has to wait an age for the food to arrive, but when it does, you kind of forget about the wait. They are kind enough to give you a complimentary Gulab Jamun to make up for the waiting time. Little touches here and there and this could easily be one of the top places to visit if you ever find yourself in the heart of Small Heath, Birmingham.

I’ve ordered from here, almost every month now for a few months. Sometimes twice a month and I always look forward to the Tiffin, on this occasion Sadly, I was disappointed with the fact that the meat portion was dramatically small and I didn’t get my sweet treat. The Jalebi was missing and salad was missing However, I was very impressed with the Ramadan iftar box .. for somebody who is working long hours it is difficult for me to prepare meals and I am missing home cooking. Disappointed so I might have to give it some time and then place another order to see if things change.

Iftar Buffet, huge disappointment. Booked for a family of four for iftar buffet, our names were not on the list when we arrived, but they accommodated us to have the buffet. Wish we had taken the chance and dine in somewhere else. Out of the most item tried few we could give pass mark for taste. Katmala, chapli kebab really hard and no taste whatsoever. Most food were really cold to lukewarm. Vegetable samosa tasted of just potatoes. bullet chilli fry, nothing to say. Fish pakora was ok. Lamb chops was hardly cooked, felt like i was eating rubber. Desi chai and jalebi, the only item we found alright. We were really disappointed after the starters, so didn't try much after the starters. Spend 17 pounds each to have food in disposable plates travelling more than an hour after work and fasting to eat a very disappointing meal.

absolutely fuking horrible customer service. they said order is delivered but no order has come. when I call the restaurant they said we give to driver and we don't know the rest. How can you do delivery but don't know if the order is being delivered or not. I paid the order for order that I never received. now I have to wait for just eat fuming customer service to get contact with me. Not even fuking call.

Excellent food and service at ponchokhana, we really enjoyed everything it was all super tasty and the owner even got me fresh milk from the shop next door because I needed some for the baby. Their service was spot on, the food is a little on the spicy side, so would be good to add yoghurt or raita to the menu. But otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I’ve been eating here every few months or so for the past 5 years and over that time I (a whitey) have introduced my whitey friends and family to the place. Without exception they have loved the food. On every occasion that I’ve been here, I have never received a welcome that has not been warm and genuine. The food is superb and includes dishes that cannot be found in Indian or Kashmiri or Pakistani restaurants, and they all taste great. There are usually good fishy and shrimpy dishes, along with vegetables that are more than just the gobi aloo or matter paneer found elsewhere. I can’t really recommend one particular dish as they are all well balanced in their flavour and texture. I’ve yet to be disappointed with anything that has passed down my throat. It’s a place to experience traditional Bengali food. You may have trouble parking nearby, but the hassle of finding the space will be well worth the experience of eating proper food.

Seriously, you need to come to Poncho Khana. If you want good food at a fair price you won't go wrong. The service is 6 stars attentive staff who are always willing to provide advice to meet the needs of the customer

10/10 on everything, from food to ambience everything was good. If you are really craving for some Bangla food. This place is a must try and the complimentary desert is bang on. Never miss that. Reasonable price and awesome test. Just give this place a try.. worth every penny.

Parking is issue so had to find om side street 10/10 for service and food highly recommended my parents who are elderly loved the authentic flavours cannot fault very good service
