Poncho Khana in Birmingham

The best bengali restaurant I have ever eaten at! From the deshi paratha to the khala bhuna to the complimentary daal. Everything was spot on packed full of flavour, and the staff were very welcoming. Although the food did take quite some time due to the busyness as well as the paratha, it definitely was worth wait. Next time I visit will definitely be eating here!

Greeted by this wonderful man named Dulal. We had an amazing dinner at Poncho Khana and the staff were fantastic, warm and welcoming. The food was impeccable, delicious and gorgeously presented. The music was fun and playful and the atmosphere was convivial and inviting. We will certainly be back to celebrate with them again! Love this place also much as we traveled from Coventry. Authentic Bangladeshi cuisine restaurant. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Clean premise and excellent customer service. All the food served here is halal. We had a selection of dishes, some of which were tandoori platter, chicken naga curry, lamb naga bhuna curry and hilsha maas fish curry. Highly recommend anyone wanting to try authentic Bangladeshi food.

First time here for breakfast. Just had desi omelette and parantha and desi chai. All home made style. Properly cutlery. Lovely service. More upmarket than the normal franchises on the road.

I have no words to describe how much my wife and I enjoyed the delicious breakfast at Poncho Khana. The restaurant is clean and tidy, the service is amazing by friendly staff, the food is very delicious, portion sizes are generous, and extremely value for money. Every item on the breakfast thali were delicious. Paya, kolija, halwa, dim bhaji, paratha, puri, tea, vegetable, chana daal all were incredibly delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I’ve been looking forward to trying kalabhuna for awhile now, and was so glad that I did! The food was so delicious and the service was really great, too The tiffin box was so yummy and I ate the whole thing, even though it was quite heavy for one person. kala bhuna was tender and went well with the sauce, dhal and vegetables. Perfectly cooked and the flavor was amazing.

They did try bless them… but not up to my standards

Visited yesterday. Little disappointed, the free Piyajoo and Gulab jamun was cold. Thought that was free so don't matter. But when my special Akhni came, it was cold and barely any meat in it. Meat kala bhuna £10.50 counted myself 4 little pieces and 3 bones again it was just warm. Service was poor 4 waiters was just looked they had enough. Had to make eye contact to get attention. Time to find somewhere else.

Traditional bangladeshi cuisine, cooked like it would be in a bengali household, quality food at a decent price, owner very welcoming and takes pride in his food/service, hence loyal customers who keep coming back. Waiter was a slow in providing the condiments, hence 4 stars for service, owner picked up on it immediately.

Brother this is what happens when management takes their eyes off and chase money. Service and food quality has dropped. All these student waiters are inexperienced. When you give complimentary salad, if you are going to reuse the salad don’t bother giving it. The finger prints off the previous customers were still on the plate! Overall food and service quality has dropped.

Absolute brilliant. Being Pakistani, my knowledge of Bangladeshi food is a bit weak. But the brothers here are very helpful. Been here twice already and will keep coming back. Service is excellent. One of the best Bangladeshi restaurants in the UK. Authentic Bangladeshi foods, quite spicy (which makes it awesome), price reasonable with a slightly on the expensive side, clean interior, professional service- overall a great package. Have been there multiple times, and will likely continue to go if they maintain the food quality, price, and services. No dedicated parking but free roadside parking a few of blocks away (challenging to find one though). Overall great experience. Keep it up!

Great food - quite spicy and very authentic!!! We went in on Friday so keep in mind they close for just a little bit during the day for jummah/ Friday prayers - or at least that's what happened when I went. Staff super accommodating, and very speedy service. Wings R a good recommendation

First time trying this bengali restaurant. Food was very flavoursome and service was fantastic. The atmosphere was lovely as they played nasheeds rather than loud music. Prices were fantastic. Will be coming here again soon.

Went for our wedding anniversary but did not announce that to the staff but still got given 5 star treatment with excellent service and delicious food. Complimentary starter, salad, olives, jalapenos and lentil curry with my order of meat briyani meant we were filled up very soon so had to take leftovers home - great value

WOW, JUST WOW!! Staff were amazing, and the food was tantalising. They treated us so well, gave us complementary pakoras. Friendly for niqabi women as they put out a cover for someone in front of our eyes. Treatment was delightful, and the cost was a chefs kiss.

I was visiting Birmingham for a day. Ordered kala bhuna, dried shrimp bhorta and tarka daal from here. I must say this was the best Bangladeshi food I have had in Europe till now. Generous portions for a reasonable price. Also we got some salad and jilapi (sweets) as complementary.

What a find!! It appears every time I'm in Birmingham, I have to make a stop here!! I've been here several times with a client of mine and never disappoints. I've tried all of the borthas, the Friday desi roast and pilau, the shutki, the pigeon, the khala bhuna.. I can't rate this place enough. When I'm working away from home and I'm craving 'mums cooking'.. this place always hits the spot!

I ordered food for four people and only three peoples food arrived, I ordered a Tiffin, two fish dishes and the Friday special- the Friday special was for my husband and it did not arrive! Both the fish dishes were flavourless, I couldn’t even taste the flavour of the fish because they were fried and then added to the same sauce. Quite disappointed as I’ve ordered from here about six times now and each time something is going wrong, it costs me nearly £5 between service charge and delivery, so we always hurts but we enjoyed the food. Sadly, I won’t be ordering from here again.

Authentic Bangladeshi food. Enjoyed the kala beef bhuna. And the chilli and garlic beef was good too. Borthas, just like homemade. Polite and attentive service. Going to go back again and try their fish dishes. Complementary deserts afterwards were really nice. Excellent value for me.

Poor customer service phoned for help on menu didn't provide solution just excuses, missing items on menu such as poppadoms, not a restaurant if theres no poppadoms on menu. Food is tasteless and extortionate, curries very greasy/dripping in oil, no salt and uneccesarily spicy, didn't match description. Requested for refund, very disappointing for a Bengali restaurant!

One of the best Bangladeshi restaurant that offers authentic taste and excellent menu. All the food is halal. This is our go to place to eat bengali food. Highly recommend their beef bhuna, kala bhuna, tarka dal, shutki bhorta, ileesh mas, beef buri and pretty much everything on the menu. Prices are also competitive. Food quality and taste are absolutely fantastic. Their breakfast menu and price of £6.95 is a banger. We havent had better breakfast anywhere else. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of seating and more seating area behind reception which can also be used for events. They have toilet facilities but no baby changing room. They also do sweets and various other bangladeshi savouries which taste good. Next time you are in Birmingham you need to check this place out. If you found this review helpful then a like would be very appreciated.

We ordered jalfrezi chicken curry, tandoori platter and fish tikka As soon as i had my first bite, I felt as if I was in India. All the dishes were mouthwatering and yummy. We also got vadas and jamuns which was amazing and it was on the house. Believe me, just go and don’t have second thoughts. Service should me mentioned, warm and welcoming service from Thawhid and the whole team. Will definitely visit soon again with our friends.

Visited a number of times this month due to ramadhan. The service is borderline rude and not very professional. This used to be a great restaurant when the owner was about but he rarely comes now and the very young staff seem to see customers as problems
