What a lovely little find. This place is fantastic and is becoming somewhere I visit more often than I would have thought. Started off at a friend's birthday meal which was great. A few weeks after I Found myself with an hour to kill so popped in for a meal for one and a drink. And I've now returned many times now for their live music weekends. Some good bands are mostly old boys with proper talent.

The Blue Piano didn't stand out to me from the pavement, so I wasn't expecting much more than a pub. However there are some lively events held there and we attended a live ska band which was really enjoyable. The real gem in the crown here is the food... absolutely amazing! I rarely rave about meals but the fusion menu is really worthwhile for those who are willing to try something with some spice and there are all the usuals such as ribs and chicken wings if you'd prefer.

This was our second terrible experience at Blue Piano so will not risk going again The food had too much over - spiced chilli in it even when we had requested very clearly must be mild Even the peanut satay as over flavoured with chilli We gave up when the meal had been replaced as it was just totally tasteless No effort to reduce bill so not pleased Hardly any other diners there so atmosphere depressing

Met some colleagues/friends for a meal, which was delicious as previously. Staff were friendly and accommodating and we enjoyed the food. Then we went to watch the live band who were great, and I had originally arranged to meet a members group to watch the Beatles tribute band. Really nice atmosphere as always and a really good venue, which I only discovered about a year ago and not too far away. Will definitely be attending again. 🤩

We stayed as guests, Room was on the second floor and there is no lift provided so if you have back pain, you still have to go up and down the stairs. Cob webs on the ceiling, dust on the headboard of the bed, no mattress protector on the bed, cracks in the bathroom sink & exposed pipes and no antibacterial hand soap. Two plug sockets did not work. Owners should take notes from Channel 4 show Four in a bed for cleaning and dusting.

Great restaurant in Edgbaston in one of the large converted houses. Wonderful Thai food and brilliant entertainment as we chose to watch the band play Big Jim and the Alabama Boogie Boys. A wonderful evening with great atmosphere and ambience. The crowd were so supportive of the band and it was being out with friends and family not complete strangers. The outside space is delightful and I would highly recommend it!

I loved this venue for the bridal shower of my close friend, it was beautiful, a great location and the food was not to be faulted. I am a huge fan of food from this culture in general and was not disappointed everything was full of flavour, fresh and excellently presented. The afternoon tea was the best I've had for a very long time. The only thing that wasn't spectacular was my margarita but the processco was lovely, the coffee was High quality so really no complaints from me. I'd go again in a heart beat.

Having visited the blue piano a good number of times over the past 4 years, the blue piano had come to me to be a place I loved to go on an extra special occasion, like birthdays and graduations, to justify the high price point for exceptionally delicious dishes and great service. I was lucky enough to visit again today, and had been looking forwards to this event for the last few weeks. Upon arriving at the restaurant, this we were treated to a refreshed change of decor. Despite the facade lift, the menu still holds onto its routes of a wide offering of east asian cuisine, including clear staples like beef rendang, Khmer chicken curry, sea bass and other dishes. I ordered my usual - the Singapore carrot cake as a starter, along with one of their curry dishes for the main, and whilst the Singapore carrot cake is exactly as I recalled (and hit the craving id been living with since booking in the table) the curry seemed to be made with an alternative recipe to the one I was used to, with the sauce having an unusual thickness to it compared to before, and the chicken and veg had lost their previous 'melt in the mouth' texture, feeling more sandy for the root veg, and chewy in the mushrooms. Alongside this, the service itself to our table was poorer than we've come to expect, with no follow up on the quality of the food with the table, or check ups on if we'd like to order more drinks. If I was new to the venue this wouldn't have been much of an issue, but the notable change in service style has made apparent the impact of the change of ownership. That, alongside the reduced number of tables in the venue itself from the redesign gives a different, more empty feel, with a far less enjoyable and busy atmosphere like we've experienced before. It feels as if the blue piano has lost some of its core demographics and hasn't quite worked out what is going to be it's unique offering beyond tastey food. We're it to be based in the very centre of Birmingham, I would expect despite these changes the restaurant would still do well, but given its slightly more up market and far out location, I'm not surprised that without a core sell, such as a boujee evening out with exemplary service like it had before, it's seemed to lost its heart. Saying this, If you've never been, the food still is worth the trip alone. Whilst there has been a sharp rise in the numbers of Vietnamese and Indonesian restaurants through Birmingham city centre, the variety of offerings, and ability to cater to dietary requirements still is a good offering. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they are able to steer it into a much more rounded experience for my next return. Also worth noting, this review is solely around the restaurant, and not the hotel.

Wow, what a place! We initially booked as we were attending a wedding that was nearby and subsequently the couple moved the wedding to The Blue Piano 3 weeks before the big day! The building itself is beautiful, I love the flooring downstairs. Our room was nice and clean and had all the basics needed. The staff were really lovely and friendly from phone calls before we stayed right until the end. Drinks prices seemed pretty standard to what you'd expect these days. I didn't try any of the cocktails so I can't comment on them but the Singapore Sling sounded good. The food for the wedding breakfast was okay. I think there was possibly an issue with getting the food out as our table was one of the last to be served and I think that unfortunately affected some of the dishes. Still tasty but a little cold and the rice was very stodgy (was listed as Jasmine rice but it tasted like standard boiled rice). The chips were good though. I have worked weddings though so I know how it can be. The buffet food on the other hand was a different ball game. The pork spring rolls were phenomenal!! Best spring roll I've ever had. The other food was also really good but it took a lot of restraint to not load a plate of spring rolls and leave some for the other guests! Only downsides to the room was the mattress wasn't comfy, it was very soft and also only one packet of biscuits in the room. The pros definitely outweigh the cons and I'd stay again.

We were the only diners in the restaurant when we arrived but one more couple arrived an hour later. The overall ambience wasn't great and the lack of customers on a Saturday evening was a red flag Unfortunately this was a disappointing experience. Our starters arrived quickly and were actually really good however my main course was very poor. I ordered Nasi Goreng with chicken. The overwhelming flavour from the first bite was of turkey, due to the gamey flavour. It was most definitely not chicken. The meat was pale with no seasoning whatsoever and seemed to have been added to the dish rather than cooked with the rice. I would hazard a guess the meat had been reheated in the microwave. The rice was sticky and claggy with no flavour other than tomato paste. I wasn't planning on leaving a review but unfortunately it was the service that made the experience so bad. We asked for the bill and when it was brought to us, I told the waitress that my dish was especially bad and that I'd like her to feed back to the chef. However we had intended to pay and had not even asked for the dish to be removed from the bill. The waitress went off to bring the card machine back but instead the more senior waitress/ manager (?) came over and abruptly asked what was wrong. I again explained that the nasi goreng was inedible, bland, lacking flavour and just really poor. Her response was abrupt, bordering on aggressive as she quickly responded that the chef has cooked that dish for 12 years and has never had a complaint. Abruptly she told me she would remove the dish from the bill, to which I said we hadn't requested a reduction. The sheer appearance of anger on her face and in her body language was astounding. I'm sure on the busier Friday nights with live music there will be a better ambience, but for a Saturday evening our experience wasn't great. We should have just gone into town where there are some fantastic south east Asian restaurants.

We attended as part of the Birmingham Restaurant Festival. The Restaurant Festival menu was a cut down version of the normal menu priced at just under £18 for 2 courses. If this had been my only time visiting, The Blue Piano, it would not have enticed me to return. I had the Fish Sambal which was swimming in the spicy tomato sauce so I swapped with my husband who had the Khmer curry. Neither of the main courses were particularly good but I know that previously we have had some really delicious food from The Blue Piano. The Singapore Carrot cake starter was the hi-light of the meal which is one of my favourite starters. My husband had the Siew Mai (steamed pork dumplings) The place always delights with live entertainment in the garden and a laid back bohemian atmosphere. You never feel rushed and staff are very good.

Having previously had many lovely meals here, our visit in mid June 23 was extremely disappointing. We waited 20 minutes to be asked what drinks we wanted and another 20 to receive them. Our starters took an hour and 40 minutes to arrive (from when we sat down) and our mains arrived 2 1/2 hours after we arrived. They said our "ticket" had got lost but then proceeded to bring the food out saying it had been found! It was chaotic, perhaps due to there being a music event on (but management should have organised enough staff to cover this). One woman seemed to be the "greeter" and did hardly any work all night while another ran around like a headless chicken. Staff kept on wandering around the garden with plates of food in their hands and then came into the restaurant looking for who had ordered them. There seemed to be no efficient system in place. Such a shame, as this used to be the place we would go for a treat.

To start with the positives, the ambiance of the restaurant is excellent. It is well furnished, not over-crowded, and comfortable. We were sat inside but could still enjoy the live music coming from the outside stage. However what really let the evening down was the slow and inconsistent service. Our table had very little attention from the staff, which meant even placing an initial drinks order took an unreasonably long time - we only got one drinks menu for the whole table (after asking), and when the order finally arrived, it turned out several of the cocktails on the menu were not available. Our food order was subsequently not taken until over an hour after the booking time. To be fair, we were offered a round of drinks by way of apology and the food arrived reasonably quickly. Still, overall the evening was nowhere as pleasant as I'd expected for my first visit to this long-running establishment so I would not hurry back.

Disappointing. My recommendation would be don't bother. I had heard good things about The Blue Piano from colleagues but our experience was underwhelming. This was for a family dinner and we had booked well ahead as we suspected it would be busy, being close to mother's day (it wasn't busy, which is perhaps revealing). When we arrived we were asked if we had booked, but they didn't take a name or check a bookings list. We were then asked if we could wait in the (empty & unattended) bar but whilst wondering whether to order drinks, we were approached by another staff member and abruptly asked if we could wait in the restaurant. How to make guests feel unwelcome! Once finally seated at our table we were asked for our drinks order. We asked to see a drinks list, but apparently they dont have one, just a wine list or beer and soft drinks. This seemed odd, considering we had just seen a well stocked bar. We ordered food and our unopened bottle of wine was left at our table. Whilst waiting for our food (and throughout our meal) we werre treated to the musical "talents" of other diner's children all hammering out painful attempts at moonlight sonata on the blue piano in reception. Not the ambience we had hoped for for a relaxing meal. Before our dishes arrived we were informed they had run out of duck and needed to make another selection. The food was reasonable, but had clearly been sitting on the pass for some time as it was rather dry. We asked about seeing a dessert list, only to be told they don't have one but could ask what was available in the kitchen. Our waiter returned offering vanilla cheesecake, which we declined. Your restaurant is opposite Morrisons - maybe make a bit of effort and try and at least get a tub of ice cream? We won't be back.

Absolutely fantastic and atmospheric venue. Amazing food, fabulous service and the best in entertainment. Cannot fault it. I’d use it for all family celebrations now. Am now in process of booking my daughter in laws wedding party there. The garden is gorgeous. Love love love this place!

We went to Blue Piano for a Friday evening. We found the food very mediocre to bland, the service was Okay until our waiting staff asked us to unscrew the wine bottle that he couldn't open. Some of our orders were not delivered and we were not told about the unavailability of these items before we ordered. The live music starts at 7.30pm, just as most people start eating and it makes a very unpleasant atmosphere as the music is way too loud at that time. When you can't chat you start looking at the surroundings with a more critical eye to notice that the decoration clearly has seen better days. Despite the unavailability of food items and our ask, the side dish was not taken off the bill. Last but not least we sent back the first bottle of wine as it wasn't nice, the second one didn't get our appreciation either.

Hotel zit in oud pand. Houten vloeren.

My friends booked a weekend stay and the private room for my hen party with afternoon tea. I cannot thank the staff enough for their hospitality. All of the food and drinks were amazing and they were so accommodating and flexible. The venue itself is gorgeous, has a lovely ambience and we loved the live music on the Friday night. I live locally so cannot wait to come back to enjoy the garden next time!

Dishonest!! We stayed in a family room (2 adjoining rooms) for 1 night and our teenage son accidentally left his toiletries (incl. an electric toothbrush) & medication in the bathroom upon check-out. He realised a few hours later and we immediately contacted the property via email since noone was answering the phone. After multiple attempts to resolve we were told the only person who had access to the room after we left was the cleaner and the medication had been found but nothing else. When we questioned how this was possible given all the items were together in a ziplock bag the manager could not explain. The only assumption we can make is the cleaner took them. The manager committed to checking with the cleaner again but we’ve heard nothing more, that was 4 days ago. We are very disappointed by the dishonesty and lack of action by the property management and would warn anyone considering booking this guesthouse to seriously think again as your personal belongings are not safe and the hotel obviously does not care about its guests.

The Blue Piano has a nice ambiance to it and is definitely a place that's worth a visit. The food is simply amazing. The chef has to be one of the best as the Rendang Curry has the authentic taste that can be found in South East Asia. So does the carrot cake which I thoroughly recommend (but be aware that it is not a dessert but rather a savourit starter). The portions are large but not in a wasteful manner. It's definitely a place worth visiting! The only reason I'm awarding it 4 stars is due to a speaker that's been blown and has been constantly cranked up to maximum volume, which made the buzzing sound rather annoying despite asking to lower the volume. Also, the staff made a mistake with the order, but that's been quickly rectified so I can't hold that against them. The manager has been superb.

New year's Eve far to many people and the band in such a small room half the people in attendance had to be outside and could not enjoy it, the ones inside were like sardines.

We booked for lunch for our daughter’s birthday. Service was brisk and efficient and the dining room, though not very busy was light, comfortable and pleasant. They were happy to lower the music upon request. The food was superb. Compliments to the chefs! We opted for the lunch menu, had a small plate each which we all shared, and a main course. Accompanied by a nice bottle of Prosecco, it really was the treat we hoped for :D

Christmas set menu put on the table along with a la carte. Same meal on a la carte is £10 cheaper than the Christmas set menu 🤷🏼♀️. We were the only party in the whole restaurant. When asked for cocktail menu just got given a blank stare by waitress (will take this as they didn’t want to serve cocktails). Weird atmosphere. Felt we were more of an inconvenience than anything! Food was OK, not as good as it has been on a previous visit. Please sort the service out, perhaps more people would visit. If you are reading this blue piano, take a look at your other reviews! 9/10 mention service as an issue, it’s not difficult to make people feel welcome.

Here at Business Buzz Warwickshire we love partnering with Bas & the team at Chaophraya Thai Restaurant in Birmingham. For Buzz to be able to bring our monthly no fuss networking to the Birmingham business community our partner venue, Chaophraya is an invaluable part of the team. The restaurant is a great place to meet for Buzz but also for follow-up meetings as the space is bright, clean & airy, plus it has a veranda over looking St Martin's Church means alfresco networking when the weather is good. The food at Chaophraya is outstanding & well worth a try. They have various options for seating, so there is something for everyone. A BIG thank you to Bas & your team for being so welcoming. It is always a pleasure visiting Chaophraya
