Ponchinellos Hinckley in Hinckley and Bosworth

Let's get this straight it's pretty decent pizza. Not the best , but the best in the area. The problem is the customer service or lack of. Tonight we rang every 3-4 minutes for 20 minutes as the kids wanted pizza and no one ever picked up the phone and it kept redirecting to some mobile. Now if this was the first incidence of this I could let it slide but it's happened the last three times we have tried to order and gave in.

I've ordered from here since they opened in the 80s. Tonight's service was shocking. Not only did they mess up my order that was ordered early, I called to tell them some items were missing and they said they would deliver an hour and half later, no good already have the food and family were eating. I asked for a refund which they said they would send, should have been 9.50 but sent me 6.50 and some canollis I didn't ask for. Food was also cold, not a great service tonight.

Pre ordered chicken pasta and a pizza at 5.30 for delivery at7.30. Delivery arrived with the driver saying they had run out of chicken for the pasta?!!! The pasta was the wrong one also rigatoni instead of pasta bows. This place has gone seriously down hill! Don’t bother. Plenty of other takeaways in Hinckley that deliver what you ask for. Don’t bother with this one!!

Always great pizza from here the best in the area.

Not as good as it once was, but still good. I expect ownership has changed as the eat-in part of their restaurant has been sold off and is now a bar and also the staff was entirely young people when we went there recently.

Outstanding in every way, quality food and service. I would recommend this takeaway to anyone that wants great food at a reasonable price. Can’t be compared with pizza chains as it’s in a league of its own.

Back in the 80s I went to ponchinellos , I met the owner a very nice lady.. I was on leave from the army in Germany.. I asked about the toppings and told her of what I had on my pizzas in Germany, I mentioned having an egg dropped in the middle and she added this idea to her menu and is still there to this day.. I have over the years always highly recommended this place.. At the time she said she has to order the bases in at the moment until she can make her own.. I've been in from time to time but now live 3.5 hours drive away.. I decided to make the journey Purley to purchase my favourite pizza from my favourite pizza place.. On checking the menu options I noticed that they no longer use salami but have pepperoni, as I wanted to recreate what I used to have back in my days in detmold Germany, I went and purchased Germany salami to have this added in place of pepperoni.. I explained I'd travelled 3.5 hours Purley to have one of their pizzas.. They refused to used the new unopened salami that I provided and even offered to pay for that topping as an extra.. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED AFTER MAKING THE JOURNEY.. I tried 2 other pizza sellers on the same street but they didn't ethier do or have the toppings I required.. I now wished I'd ever recommended this place over the years as I bet I've sent alot of custom to them..

Pure speed, greed and quantity of customers over quality. Two thin crispy pizza and a garlic bread ordered but only dough turned up. Barely scared by I presume a traditional oven and not wood fired. An insult to Italians. Perhaps get some quality control. Just sloppy!!!

Ordered Takeaway from here not long ago, have also ordered from here several times and regularly over the past few years, food came pizza was like slop, lasagna was like soup & the Meatballs tasted tasted solely of fennel then phoned to ask in a nice manor about a possible refund if food was sent back in way it came or a discount for next time as it was bad inedible level bad & was told if you didn’t like the food don’t order from us again this is after 2 calls to them and speaking to 2 “apparently different staff members” who actually turned out to be the woman that was rude to myself before then got cut off and they wouldn’t take further calls was very disappointed in the service, and won’t be returning as the member of staff suggested.

The pizza here is absolute fire! So fire that they run out early and only have to open a few days a week. Some of the best pizza ever.

Great pizza, but how about answering the phone or add an online order system as most times we just give up and order elsewhere.

Friendly service, food smells amazing but wasn't a big fan of the pizza, was really really greasy and the pepperoni was super salty, not really a pizza you can eat with your hands unfortunately.

Best pizza in Hinckley, quality over quantity, definitely worth the price. Pasta is OK. A little difficult to ring in an order most of the time and waiting times can often be excessive as they get very busy, odd opening hours but very good pizza!

Very disappointed, base not cooked. Lacked care and taste. Sorry will not order again.

The best pizza in Leicestershire hands down!

Awesome food, literally the best pizza I’ve ever had (and I’ve been to Italy!). The delivery is always fast and the service is friendly. Top quality all around.

Best pizza in town but only if you can get through on the phone to order one. Very rarely do I get through in less than 30 minutes and 20 or more attempts. Normally just give up and order elsewhere. Shame must be loosing so much business.

We ordered pizza pasta breads and profiteroles. Collected and got home to find the desert was missing…. Called the shop to have the most amazing service and rapid dispatch to our home. They went above and beyond and the food was all delicious Thank you so much

Great food. Good value and friendly service

I’ve been a customer for over 30 years and absolutely love their lasagna. That was until last night. There was hardly any pasta and very little meat! I know companies are having to cut back but I was not impressed. It was mostly tomato sauce.

We visited last night, about half an hour before the shop closed. Staff were very friendly, and although it was our first visit we barely even needed to look at the menu, as the person taking our order asked about our preferences and made very good recommendations, from the kind of pizza, to the thickness of the crust. They serve a unique taste, and with great quality, so much so that I really don't see the point in going to Domino's when this store is a few steps away. Better quality, better value, better service and you support a local business! Two adequately sized pizzas only set us back 19 quid. A great introduction for us, and we will certainly be returning.

Used this take away for years, great food however went in last night and out of nowhere a man presume the owner came down shouting at.me saying I was causing a scene. The girl that was serving me was shocked at his behaviour... Sorry never use you again.... Disgusting

Couldn't get through on the phone so drove down to find the place empty. Then told it was a 30min wait. Really wasn't worth it. Authentic not. Well the garlic tomato bread was nice but the margarita was basic at best and the spicy pork pizza lacked any spice at all. Both pizzas pretty flavourless. I suggest a visit back to Italy to remind themselves of what real pizza tastes like. Sadly, won't be returning. The next time I have pizza will be on my return to Italy.

An Italian pizzeria, best pizza & pasta in the known universe.

In the midlands town of Hinckley, there is a bar-restaurant reminiscent of an Italian village retreat. Oliver and Claudia make you welcome and can mix their own home made lemonade with ice that is truly refreshing. The atmosphere is relaxing, ideal for an end of day drink or just somewhere to meet friends.

I was completely let down and disgusted at the service received last night from Ponchinellos. Dispute being a regular customer after waiting 2 hours for our delivery I had to call up to chase the order. Initially being told the order had just gone out the door and was on its way to us. Then 10 minutes later I receive a call from them saying they had lost the ticket and the chef was now refusing to cook the order (the time was 8.30). I then asked to speak to the chef to be told he was too busy and hearing him in the background shout. I asked again to speak to him, where I would have offered to collect the order. The lady on the phone seemed like she understood my disappointment but had no support from the chef. I asked again to speak to the person in charge and then they put the phone down on me. This is terrible customer service and would put me off returning to this takeaway.

Great food and atmosphere without feeling too busy.

Just the best. Nowhere else comes close! The pizza dough, toppings and sauce are beautiful. You don’t feel bad after eating, everything is fresh

Cash only, incredibly slow on a Saturday night (1:30 for 3 pizzas). When they got the food wrong, rather then apologize they begrudgingly agreed to exchange it and gave me attitude.

When eating in, I didn’t expect my food to be served in a takeaway foil container with no plates! Really shocking. Food was ok. Interesting to read how defensive and abusive the owner was with other reviews. The woman that served us was great.

We've been regular customers of Ponchinellos for 30 years but recently we've found it impossible to place an order by phone. You're now met with a recorded message from a nice Italian lady who says your call is in a queue but eventually you are directed to voicemail - every single time. When you leave a message (we've left 3 in three weeks) no response is received. We tried leaving an order and asked for a call back - nothing. So today we thought we'd try again. We called six times between 12.30 and 4.00pm once again going through the answer phone rigmarole. We therefore decided to call in to place our order. We were told they were fully booked - how do people book nowadays? It can't be by phone. My wife asked how we should order in future only for the manager (owner?) to be extremely rude to my wife and unbelievably arrogant in refusing to answer because he was too busy making dough. Shame on you Ponchinellos, if someone asks a polite and perfectly reasonable question at least be professional and courteous enough to help.

Called several times to place an order, only to be met with an answerphone service. No option to place an order. Drove into Hinckley. Went in to place my order , only to be told it would be an hour because I hadn't pre ordered. Erm, I couldn't........ I expressed an hour was a long wait for one pizza for my Granddaughter, who was with me, only to be shouted at to go elsewhere if I'm not happy. Shouting at me is not ok. Shouting at me when my 9 yearold Granddaughter is with me is most definitely not ok. Never, ever will I go into the place again. You have really shown yourself up tonight.

Genuinely the beat italian Pizza Pasta takeaway I've been to. Still owned by the same family that set it up in the 80's so still keeps to high standards and amazing quality it always has

We had take away for husband's birthday and it was absolutely disappointing. Pizza was dull tasteless, dipping were falling off? Base was chewy. Omg so disappointing.

Food was delicious, but the venue was cold.

I don't think it's as good as it used to be . I feel the portions are getting smaller and less tasty.

Went for dinner and drinks on Saturday night and we were really impressed with the whole set up; lovely atmosphere, very relaxed, great service, delicious pizza and a great bottle of wine. Would recommend with confidence and we'll definitely be returning!

Wonderful! Love the concept and perfect t delivery with great staff. The takeaway was there first and then they opened the bar next door. There are basically two ‘shop fronts’ one being the takeaway and one being the bar. At the bar there is a very very well stocked bar with excellent staff who know their drinks and are definitely there to make your visit a good one and, in my case, pander to my chat on drinks and requests for different cocktails. We ordered a takeaway front next door and waited in the bar enjoying drinks. The takeaway then delivers to you in the restaurant. Best date night in ages. Thank you

Awful phone system had to ring 8/9 times as it has some awful diverting to mobile system that really doesn’t work, no online booking allowed, had to keep ringing for half an hour to get through on the phone only to be told no slots left tonight…. It’s 19:20 Friday night….

[Ponchinellos becomes Non-chinellos] 5-08-2021 The very first time my girlfriend and I gave Ponchinellos in Hinckley LE our money, everything from the super great delivery driver to the two x-large pizzas were outstandingly extraordinary. I dubbed it, "the best pizza i have ever had in my life from a takeout" (i have lived on 3 continents and 7 countries) Expectedly, we were so pumped to have another night over Ponchinellos food. It's definitely far from 'more affordable', but Christ it did not even slightly hinder our decision-making. -------> fast forward to Collection We were not told about the Deal that is advertised Vegas Strip style on a BIG painted sign right outside their establishment. The cost we would be charged therefore, £28 instead of £23. That is for x2 pizzas, no drinks, no garlic bread. So £6 more for less. I asked about the above mentioned Deal and only then did they own up to it and offer it to us. POOR showing, but we were so so eager to feast on our Ponchinellos so it didn't really matter all that much. Returning home engulfed by the best ever pizza smell and we felt even more excited to get stuck in. :( --------Pizzas were smaller than ever, undercooked and partnered by a blackened crust------- I reached out to Ponchinellos the following morning to share with them my dismay. What happened you ask? I was told nothing can be done, but I am welcomed to Order with Ponchinellos again...... YEP.

Ace place if you go in to eat your pizza. Best pizza I've had. Delivery is a little slow if ordering take away but get yourself in there, grab a beer and before you know it, a scalding hot pizza will be Infront of you....enjoy.

Best pizza in the locality for more than 30 years

Hi guys ! Went to ponchinellos Thursday night for what was supposed to be a nice meal inside the restaurant (not takeaway). To say we were disappointed was a understatement. The special ponchinellos pizza was not thin and crispy like requested (it was optional to have thin or deep) and nor was it even the slightest bit Italian, I should know as I'm Italian. And the pasta dish my partner ordered was served in the tin takeaway pots that it was cooked in. When dining at a restaurant you expect your food to come in proper dishes.. you know wine and dine. It tasted like a tin of chopped tomatoes with a bit of salt poured over the pasta with little mozzarella. It also appeared like it was cooked from frozen as the water separated from sauce sat at the bottom of the tray...again not authentic Italian food. As you can see from photos attached the "roast" potatoes were anything but roasted. They tasted like they were reheated and then sprinkled some rosemary and thyme over the top and grease i understand them to be a little oily to get them crisp but they were not crispy and were really greasy. The staff were pleasant and friendly and the place inside looked welcoming and clean. All covid rules were followed so felt relaxed. Just a shame the food was not up to standards.

First time pizza with Ponchinellos. The pizzas are second to none. I think I’ll be coming to Hinkley for takeaway pizza from now on. Absolutely best I’ve ever had.

Previous meals have been excellent, but in Covid times they are so popular it's tough to get through by phone to place an order. Best to ring early.

DREADFUL absolutely dreadful. Words fail me as to just how bad the food is here! Pic 1 is meant to be garlic and tomato bread. pic 2 is prawns gamberetti piccanti. Pic 3 is lasagna. Pic 4 is roast potatoes. The lasagne could be summed up as tasting as you would expect if Heinz did tinned lasagne! The salt level was astonishing in everything! I am truly flabbergasted by just how awful this place is.

Have ordered from here a few times, pizzas always good, however this time the cannolli was off, definitely tasted weird and chemical. As previous review stated no sell by date just came in tin foil carton.

I’ve had to put a review on TA as there is no facility to leave feedback by email in the website. The telephone is constantly engaged and Rhett is no messaging service. We order from Ponchinellos on a regular basis and it is usually very good. Tonight we ordered pizza, lasagne, Franca’s favourite and meatballs. All of these dishes were fine. The side dish of coleslaw was off. It was a grey colour and tasted fizzy. No sell by date were on these two dishes. The puddings varied too; the tiramisu was very good, but the cannoli did not taste good.

The best pizza in Hinckley, hands down. A real price, amazing dough and 👌🏼 pizzas.

I had a meal delivered to the hotel I was staying in earlier this week. Service was great. No fuss with the order, no fuss with the delivery and received a call 5 minutes before delivery. Garlic mushrooms, Spaghetti Gamberoni and Garlic Break. The mushrooms and pasta were piping hot and delicious. Couldn’t fault any part of the order/delivery or quality of the meal. Free delivery on orders over £20. I’ll definitely try Ponchinellos again.

Had our first pizza from here today and WOW!! Literally the best takeaway pizza I've ever had! Love the fact there is no base options and you get just a simple pizza. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Will deffo be going back here again!! My only disappointment is that its almost £7 more for the largest pizza (dependant on toppings) which is just 2 inches bigger than the large. Nevertheless still fantastic quality pizza!

I only became a customer since the pandemic, so I've only ever ordered takeaway. - the staff have always been very polite - delivery has always been bang on time - the food has always been amazing 100% recommend. Ponchinellos is a gem.

We've been customers of Ponchinellos for 30 years. The pizza is like no other... Authentic, flavoursome, great menu and great quality. The atrabiata dip alone is worth travelling from London for (where I now live). The pizza we had last night for a special family party was better than ever. Thank you!!!

By far the best Italian I have ever been to. Everything tasted so fresh and beautiful, really was a taste sensation. House red is a real treat. The 2 men serving us couldn’t have been more friendly and attentive. They were great with out demanding loud children also! Absolutely outstanded and the food and service provided in this establishment. I live an hour away and will definitely l will definitely be coming back purely for this.

We frequently order takeaway for delivery and have never been disappointed. Food is always great quality, arrives fresh and piping hot every time. The meatballs and the pizzas are our recommendations.

Informed on arrival that the dine out deal isn’t on here however we paid less here than a local restaurant with the governments deal. The restaurant next door is small and cute. Very friendly and polite staff. Food came promptly. Everything we tried we enjoyed. Even our three year old cleaned his plate. Would recommend as opposed to some of the other “Italians” in town. By far the best we have tasted. P.s I thought the meatballs beautiful! Could taste fennel ❤️

Travelled over 30 miles on Saturday 1pm as this place looked amazing and I'm a big pizza fan. But got greated by someone shouting saying floors wet, come back at 5. Found that very rude. No hello, no explanation why they're closed, no manors and what a absolute waste of time traveling to Hinckley for this experience. Shocked. Wow.

Used to love the food, however I have been on hold for over 30 minutes this evening to order. Maybe a victim of their own success or possibly grossly incompetent. Based on recent Facebook feedback I sadly fear the latter...

Ponchinellos is our favourite take away by far! We are always impressed with the food from here, pizzas are consistently good, pastas too! Food is great value also, with daily offers. Staff are always friendly and accommodating.... well done Ponchinellos, keep up the fantastic work! see you soon

I originally wrote a review on here discussing how much I enjoy the pizza and the staff , but giving some pointers on what I felt could be improved. I am very pleased to say it really feels like feedback gets taken onboard. The phone system is easier to get through to and pizza delivered warm and fresh. I will reiterate what I said before that I love the ethos of the place, owner seems passionate and the staff are young (good) and still exceptional at customer service, chatty and happy to take your order and deliver it. I know a few older, middle aged people who would grumble at “kids” taking your order but actually, they could take a few lessons from these guys! 4 stars moved to 5 and fully deserved. First time we’ve used Ponchinellos in a long time and was quite looking forward to the food but felt totally let down, food tasted bland. Cost, service and pizza size all ok but as the main reason is the food the average score reflects this.

Just picked up the 2 pizzas we ordered , never have I ever had pizza like this, they really $@!t on domino's and papa John's, they don't even compare to Ponchinellos !! Buy and don't regret I promise you

Order was on Saturday 9th May 2020. Called and spoke to a helpful chap called Johnathan. We ordered a Crostino, Gambero Hot and Ponchinello Special for delivery at a later time, so pre ordered.Food arrived within fifteen minutes of the requested delivery time. All the food was hot, fresh and tasted delicious. It puts the mainstream ‘big operators’ such as Papa John and Dominos to shame.Fantastic food, absolutely fair priced great portion sizes and good service. We will definitely continue to order from Ponchinellos.
