We was on a pub tour of the area and passed this on a way to another pub and thought “oh this looks quaint” sometimes the most impromptu pubs are the best and this one certainly is! Four ales were on draft we opted for the salcombe gold Which was excellently kept. I loved the laid back atmosphere with dog friendly sofas. They have a beautiful boxer dog named boots who greets you on arrival who is loving in nature with people and dogs. Very chilled and dog friendly and I will certainly visit again and stay for longer when I’m next in the area. Whatpub online does not hype this place is much as it should.

We visited mid afternoon on a Saturday and Most unwelcome pub I’ve ever visited. It’s run down, dirty and unfriendly- I have to say the lady behind the bar had all the charisma of a bowl of cold sick. - in future I’ll go to the Huntsman which is 100 meters down the road

Decent beer, food ok, owner/landlord was extremely rude, unhelpful and dismissive. Won't be going there again and definitely wouldn't recommend it when there are plenty of other places to go.

Really good lunch for three of us. Lasagne, chilli con carne and sausage and mash. Homemade and tasty. And good beer there too

We called in on Saturday. Just looking for somewhere cosy after a cold dog walk. We found just that. The service was great, all the locals very friendly. It’s the idyllic village pub in the country. Can’t wait to go back.

Absolutely fabulous little place. Ran by Tony, a great Chef and pub landlord, lunches, brunches and din dins are always exquisite. That and a local real pub experience served a cold brew by the lovely Francine in beautiful rustic pub and backyard garden with farm views. Situated in Ide it's easily accessible from Exeter City Centre via the 6A or 360 Stagecoach bus. Or for the more adventurous you can walk up through Crab Lane and pass the Twisted Oak. Family and dog friendly (say hello to Boots - see pic attached)

Brilliant! The Poachers Inn was home for us for 3 nights. Very pretty spot and a great place for us to go off and explore from. Tony was charming and friendly, he went above and beyond to ensure we were well looked after. Food was delicious. Would recommend, especially if you are a dog lover.

Visited earlier to check the place before visiting with a group of retired male pensioners. A quiet start but as we warmed by the fire, the locals and bar staff we felt more and more welcoming. Today we were back as a group of seven male pensioners (Last of the Summer wine in Devon) we put the world to rights with good pub food, excellent beer and warm atmosphere. Dogs were very friendly as were the locals. The best cheese board and bottle of port we have had in 12 years of our monthly trips! Book in advance, state your needs and they will be met in a traditional village pub. Brilliant.

Went for a family meal, starters were good unfortunately majority of the mains were extremely poor, waitress was good. Manager on duty was ignorant. Been here numerous times and never had any concerns Made a comment on website, owner tried to pass the buck to us saying that's why manager was ignorant. Waitress came over asked how food was we told her majority of mains unedialble, that was it she thanked us and we thanked her, the manager the walked over put a bill on the table said 10% off and walked away........ as a establishment instead of trying to blame customers for how your manager dealt with a situation accept responsibility for some of the shocking main meals that was served.

A truly wonderful and unspoilt locals' village pub. The smell of wood smoke as you enter. A cosy bar with old sofas and arm chairs. Log fire. Scrummy unpretentious pub grub. Range of real ales. Doggy friendly. A rabbit warren of rooms. Friendly crew. Featured and recommended in the Good Beer Guide and Good Pub Guide. Free of covid period hysteria. What more could you ask for? 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Do not visit this pub if you want a warm welcome. The owner is the most rude and obnoxious individual I’ve ever met. We turned up at 11:30 on Christmas Day to a welcome of “F**k Off I’m not open until 12.” There was an old man also in the bar and he was told to “F**K off” as well. Whilst I know It’s awful to be working on Christmas Day but his attitude is appalling and it’s unlikely we will ever visit again. My advice .... go to the Huntsman Inn. I’ve had to give it one star but that’s overrated.

My 5year old daughter went up to the bar on her own with her pocket money to buy a bag of peanuts. The landlord was rude to her, ridiculed her and told her "he never want to see her in his pub again" she came back to me crushed and sobbing. He was unapologetic, rude and told me "You know where the door is" when I confronted him about it. I have heard many other people say that the landlord is rude and nasty, we will NEVER be going there again.

We ate there last night and the food was not good. The chips were like caskets of oil. We noticed people on the other table also left lots of their food. We were asked to pay and was not offered a bill just the total amount. We asked for a receipt and noticed that we had been overcharged. We will certainly never be eating there again. We are both still feeling ill this morning with uncomfortable stomaches.

Met up with family as we had come down to visit. We were very surprised 😯 with the sloop, being a hungry horse we are used to them being noisy and dirty. We were so surprised and we were allowed to take our 🐶 in. The staff were lovely and most importantly so was the food.

I have been to The Dolphin Inn several times now and the staff are always very friendly and welcoming. There are homemade traditional pies and roasts offered on Sundays, and bar snacks during the week. I had forgotten my scarf and Sam had very kindly looked after it for me. I wish them a very happy and successful 2020!

Lovely food, can recommend the prawn and smoked salmon sandwich, loads of filling. We ate inside with the gorgeous sea view. We will be returning when in the area again
