6 of us had a variety of starters, mains and desserts & all dishes were excellent. We all had food envy for each others dishes! 2 curry lovers commented their curry was best they'd had. It's a very rare treat to have a menu, so varied where everything is soooooo good!

On a dark, wet, miserable night we were looking for a bite to eat in or near Criccieth when we stumbled across Poachers. Our night changed, we only wanted a starter and a pasta dish and this was served obligingly, very efficiently and timely. Not only that the food was delicious. All this in a very comfortable restaurant with just the right ambience and very pleasant staff, and all at a reasonable price. We were enjoying ourselves so much we found room for two delicious desserts and a very welcome coffee liquer. I have no problem recommending this restaurant and if I am ever in the area again we we certainly return.

Fantastic. Need to book as very popular. Lots of returning customers because its so good. A must to visit. Jill kindly opened up earlier for us to fit us in. Had one of the best meals here. Presentation, quality of ingredients and taste were excellent. So good in fact returned the following night. Beef so tender. Pasta tasty. Pork different and delicious. Portions great size. So very reasonable in price and great service. Struck it lucky when we went here. Highly recommend. They know their business well. Thank you and well done

We had originally planned to eat at Poachers on 2 of our 5 nights in Criccieth but it is so good that we were lucky to be able to eat here on 4 consecutive evenings. This restaurant is really special. Everything is beautifully served, hot and very tasty. It is impossible to choose a favourite meal as they are all lovely. Jill and her team are all friendly and helpful. Excellent wine list and choice of local beers makes it perfect. We can't wait for our next holiday in Criccieth to eat here again.

How refreshing to find this little gem of a family run restaurant. The ambiance is relaxed. The service was impeccable, not intrusive, but very amenable, even catering brilliantly for the eight year old in our party with aplomb. The menu is contained, as are the hours of opening, but we went twice during our holiday, and it is obvious that the chef is adept at cooking good quality food which is far removed from the usual pub grub offerings elsewhere. No wonder then that we needed to book ahead. The sea bass and prawn linguine is now a favourite, and the slow cooked lamb is a triumph, as well as the in season vegetables. The portions are of a good size, and the food is served hot and freshly cooked. This is the best restaurant in the area without a doubt, and we would not hesitate to book again. This is home cooking at its best.

We were on holiday in Criccieth last year but were unable to get in this restaurant as it was fully booked. We were back this year so I pre-booked the table several weeks before we went. Now we've been we can see why it was fully booked. I'm so glad we visited the restaurant, it was one of the high points of the holiday. The restaurant was lovely and cosy, the food was excellent. We both really enjoyed the meal. We both had 3 courses. The pancake starter was beautiful. I really wish this restaurant was in the town where we live. I'd want to go every week. The staff were friendly and helpful. We'd definitely like to go back again next time we're in Criccieth.

We loved poachers pre covid when we visited the caravan for a special treat/celebration. They are always very welcoming and the food is excellent. We thought we would try the Sunday take away and are we glad we did. You choose your dishes - we ordered two different starters and two different puddings so we could try a few dishes and ordered the lamb to share. You ring up and they give you a slot to collect. It was ready on the dot of 7pm. Food was piping hot, really good sized portions and so delicious. The word "take away" doesn't do it justice. Very well organised, felt very safe collecting. So much so we have booked to eat in on Friday - can't wait. .

A gem of a family run restaurant on the main street. It was recommended by the young man in the cottage next to our holiday let. Difficult to get a booking but well worth it. I would recommend the black beef pancakes with cheese and any of the meat mains. Everything delivered on flavour and the accompanying vegetables were beautifully cooked. Not the ideal place to eat late at night as the food deserved to be lingered over. I will go back but choose a lighter starter

We ordered meals from Poachers when they were only doing takeaway meals. The process is quite straightforward once you understand that orders and payments have to be done by telephone when you also book your pick up slot and that you can order up to six days in advance. Starters, mains, sides and deserts come in individual cardboard or foil boxes.Food quality was OK although not generally up to restaurant standards but the spinach pancakes and fish medley were thought to be particularly good. My goulash, however, was disappointing. Prices were very reasonable and the convenience of having a meal ready for when you get back from an outing, is excellent

You can view the menu on Facebook, choose you meal from the menu, ring it through before 4.00 pm, get a collection time, you pay by card. You wait outside at the allotted time, the meal all in containers is placed on the table just inside the door, you pick it up and speed home to enjoy top quality food. In these times it is an uplifting experience, and one that I would heartily recommend.

My husband and I visited Poachers on a Saturday night while on a weekend away. We were actually booked in elsewhere, but Poachers looked cosy and inviting so we decided to give it a go instead (it was much closer to the Lion Hotel where we were staying). We went in at 6pm when they opened to try to book a table for later that night, and they were happy to accommodate us after the first wave of sittings so we booked for 8.15pm. It was still busy at that time, but it started to empty out thereafter. The menu is a starter and main for fixed £19.95, although there are some options to change that around a bit. We went for the beef pancake and fishcake to start, both of which were delicious - my husband would have happily eaten the pancake again for main, and again for dessert! I am fussy with fishcakes but this one did not disappoint. For mains we had the lasagne and chicken with bacon, again both of which were lovely. The portions of vegetables and potatoes on the side were a good size (you can choose between potatoes, chips and rice with most dishes). Combined with the complimentary bread and butter we received at the start, this was a very large meal - we couldn't breathe by the end, but we didn't want to leave any as it was so nice! It was really good value for money. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated for Christmas, which I think probably helped to make it cosy. The only thing I would change is the green carpet as it dates the restaurant, but all in all there was a nice ambiance which was perfect for a cold winter evening. I'm so glad we switched our booking to Poachers and would love to return if we're ever in the area again.

We had a really enjoyable evening at Poachers, part of a belated celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary! There were 7 of us and we were all very impressed indeed. Four of us are vegetarians and all had great meals. The food was beautifully cooked and presented and the portions were very generous. The service was efficient and pleasant and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I actually chose to have two starters - opting for the goats cheese starter as a main, and it was absolutely delicious and very filling! Others chose the vegetarian pancakes, which looked super and which they all clearly enjoyed, whilst the non-veggies chose the chicken in brandy & cream sauce and the beef dish - and again all raved about their choices. There was a good selection of desserts for those who could manage to fit one in! It really is a lovely place to enjoy good company and excellent food.

This is a fascinating restaurant. Book ahead as it gets full and having dined here, we can see why. OK, the decor is somewhat trapped in the 1970s but we didn't mind this as it was sort of homely. What we didn't anticipate was the remarkable quality of the food, served very professionally, quickly and without fuss or pretension. Piping hot and prepared to exacting standards, we complemeted the food several times. I would also suggest that the value for money was exceptional too; £43 for two courses each, we were more than happy to top up to £50. Superb, a brilliant reaturant.

We’d read the good reviews and wanted to try this for years and years. In a nutshell we were surprised and underwhelmed. It was quite an odd experience. It was just ok really. It reminded me of the sort of food a keen amateur cook would do at home when just trying out old fashioned dishes in the early days. It felt very old fashioned and retro. The decor is weird, sort of like a retirement home and I think that is the demographic who would appreciate this food and decor the most and perhaps very fussy conservative folk. We were a bit in shock the whole meal. Bread was a bit odd - big square chunks of not too appetising hovis brown type bread. It didn’t seem homemade - just someone trying to be creative and different with an unsliced commercial loaf of wholemeal bread. That set the tone for the meal. We had to ask for butter. The seafood cocktail starter was not so good. I didn’t like the dill at all as I was expecting a traditional or good twist on Marie Rose. I’m not sure what fish (other than prawns) was in it but I could not tell if there was some sort of crab stick style formed fish. My partners starter wasn’t too good either - it had chicken wings and salad but again bizarre presentation and some added unnecessary ingredients that didn’t marry. The mains again were not great but not awful. At this stage we had decided the food was a bit like what they serve at the buffets for the coach loads of OAPS who go to Llandudno. The leg of lamb was ok I suppose but it reminded me of the ready made sliced stuff but nothing like I hoped and expected. The chicken breast was ok again but not how we’d hoped (slightly dry and just ok). The sauce with the lamb was nice though. The chips were bought in ones (not freshly cut by hand that day) which had been fried a lot to be crunchy but were a bit greasy. The desserts were ok but very 70s and not like a dessert chef had made them more like your Gran had made them (I had a trifle!). I think if you’re 75-90 you’d love it here or if you’re the great nephew and niece of Uncle Tarquin who was a Major during the war. It’s that sort of buzz. The service was ok but we had to ask for napkins and also drinks before the meal. The staff were friendly and did ask us how our meal was and we smiled and said fine thanks. But we were disappointed because reviews suggested it was a great restaurant and we expected some outstanding meals. So in summary, a bit of a time warp journey back in time and ok. Decor is very strange. It’s grey and old fashioned. Best bit: great value tasty bottle of Kiwi Sauvignon blanc. Unfortunately only had one small glass as was driving.

The food in this restaurant was very good. However the staff were a little uncaring. My wife ordered a dish which did not mention that it contained Tarragon and coriander, herbs that make my wife ill. Just had the most amazing meal at this restaurant. The whole experience was 5* from the decor to the service to the quality and choice of food. The set menu for 2 courses was £19.95 and you could add a dessert for £4 (the odd dish has a supplement). All the food was clearly freshly cooked and tasted divine. As a consequence, booking is highly recommended as the regularly book out. Go there!

Lovely choices on the three-course menu. Meat cooked beautifully to our taste, but what a shame about the puffed up, browned off chips. Time to change the oil or the chip supplier.

We met friends here for a supper last week. The service was excellent and the food very good. Is the walnut, apple and caramel dessert cake a secret or do you share ? I love love to have a go at making it.

Exceptional meals at reasonable prices. The place is a little gem and a visit if you are in the area is recommended. Book in advance though as it gets full very quickly.

We were fortunate to get a table at The Poachers even booking over a day in advance but we'd read great stuff about it, we weren't surprised really!

8 of us are here last night, all very impressed black beef pancakes were lovely, pickled herrings were so sweet and the seafood cocktail tasted of the sea.

this chef can cook. The Welsh food (and also other choices) is cooked in the way it should be. Be sure to have made an reservation as it can be busy here.

We had heard amazing things about the poachers restaurant so decided to go. Not overwhelmed with the food to be honest. The main was quite nice. Not enough chips or veg. I have a very sweet tooth but the pudding was so sweet I didn’t enjoy it that much. Will not rush back too soon. Service fine.

My wife and I went there on the recommendation of the reception staff at Criccieth Castle. A good selection on the menu, and after much deliberation (virtually everything on the menu looked good) we chose the beef and lamb reflectively. Good choice of desert's as well, and everything very reasonably priced.

It was a good job we'd booked as even midweek the restaurant was just about full which is nearly always a good sign of good things to come. We were not disappointed one bit. The food is absolutely superb. We selected pickled herring starter salad which was sublime. The dill pickled side of herring was spot on with a salad full of flavoursome coleslaws, bulgar wheat, beetroot slaw. A double portion would make an excellent main but we'd have missed out on the delights of the main course menu. The seafood medley was the one of the best fish main courses I've had in a long time. Wonderful flavours and perfectly cooked fish. A steak was perfectly cooked to order and the cod in a shrimp and dill cream sauce was also stunning. The portion sizes were decent too. The lemon posset dessert was also excellent.

We had been here a few years ago and wondered whether it had grown in our memory. We needn't have worried. The food was top quality, the service married politeness with efficiency and the value was outstanding. However, make sure you book as the restaurant soon fills up.

My first time here but definitely not the last. The food was superb along with the wine. I was very impressed all round. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere very pleasant. I am normally quite hard to please, but I could not fault this restaurant and look forward to my next visit.

I have just celebrated my fathers 90th birthday with friends and family at the Poachers and it didn't fall short of our expectations! From the accomadating email conversations prior to the evening with Jill helping us to find alternatives for a five year old and a gluten intolerant adult to the slick but friendly service and not to mention some of the best steaks we have ever eaten, it was well worth the visit. We will definitely be back, what a treasure.

While on holiday in Criccieth we looked online at various restaurants, and thought the Poachers menu looked really good - how right we were, the three of us all had different main courses - sauteed hake fillet, assorted fish medley and slow roasted shoulder of welsh lamb - all were absolutely delicious, as were the accompanying vegetables.

Called in for coffee and cakes. Took ages to be served but staff were pleasant. We sat upstairs and appreciated the heating being on as it was a cold day. The coffee was weak and we only drank it to warm us up. My dad’s iced bun was more like a rock cake. The bara brith we bought to take home was the worst we’ve ever had. Completely dry and tasteless. Best thing about this place was the clean loo. Would not return.

A wonderful find - such a great restaurant! The menu is small but wow; the choices are fantastic. The coconut chicken was perfect, roast potatoes were delicious and the beautifully cooked. As a coeliac and dairy intolerant - would definitely recommend.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening. We started with a drink on the terrace and we were given the option of eating out there too and we did. A beautiful view and a perfect spot to watch the sunset .Definitely planning on returning.

Home cooked food very nice and very reasonable prices. Been twice now and intend to go again this week. Worth a little wait as everything cooked from scratch
