Po King Restaurant in South Ayrshire

Stopped for some chips and a late decision to add curry sauce on the way home this week. Having not ordered here for a long time and there being new owners at least twice since I’m pretty sure, not sure what the food would be like but not something you consider too deeply when you’re ordering chips. Chips were undercooked, and not in the least bit pleasant. £8 for some partially cooked sticks of potato? No thanks.

I use this restaurant 2 or three times a week. The food has always been consistently fresh and flavourful. I thoroughly recommend the Po King .

We ordered for of us and they were able to deliver to the cottage we were staying in, Food was good and great value for money.

Have had take away from here a couple of times before and thought it was good, tonight it was excellent, with friendly lassie at the counter.

My girlfriend indicated that she wanted a Chinese take out tonight 15.1.22, she wanted Barbecue pork with sweet &sour sauce priced at £4.90 ( only 4 dishes on the menu with pork but not with the sauce I want), no problem, I asked the girl in the first instance was it sliced pork as opposed to the pork ball version, sliced pork she confirmed, I said l wanted pork with sweet & sour sauce which meant the chef just had to change the sauce, shouldn’t be a problem I thought, the girl asked for £5.80 which I paid as I thought perhaps I got the price wrong, when checking the menu it was indeed £4.90, so I asked why I was paying 90p more just because I changed the sauce??, I could see her attitude change and she said that’s what the system said ,when I asked her to check I got a tirade of abuse “you’ve been a f%#^€>+ pain in the ass with a bad attitude since you walked in here “, somewhat taken aback I asked for my money back, her parting shot was “as#%<¥!. Well this is another business that I will boycott and be more than happy to make a round trip of 20 miles to acquire a simple dish, without foul language from a disgusting fishwife

So disappointed to write this after picking up a great meal here in May on way to campsite for tea. Our next order was a complete joke - missed out ribs/ sauces / chips snd prawn crackers from an order for four people and the ‘spicy box’ ( what they had remembered to put in) was utterly vile . Main courses were bland and unappealing, most of it went in bin. The young lady on the phone was so nice, can’t fault the lovely service, but something has gone very wrong in the kitchen as she absolutely read our order back correctly, real shame .

Never had such a disgusting meal waste of money wouldn't give it to a pig no stars was awful. Would never give it a second look bloody disgusting

Have eaten out of here for years with no complaints but over the last couple of months it has gone downhill. The standard of food has dropped dramatically and they don't even seem to understand some of the dishes on their menu when ordering a delivery. Also, when we asked them to change our order to the correct one, they just added some extra ingredients to the original dish which was dry and inedible. Won't be back.

Decided to have a Chinese tonight as hadn't had one for a while, but won't be rushing back for another one anytime soon. Everything has gone up by 20p including delivery which is now £4.00. The portion sizes are less as well, total rip off!

Went there on sat night we walked out service was 0/ 10 waited from 6/30 till 7/for starter still not ready they said it was 50%ready the young boy serving u thought he was at school sports day with all the runni g only to 2 tables looking to be served both walked out we are charged 16 pounds for 4 drinks and 1 plate of chips staff very very rude been going there for 10 yes its changed hands think it will be closed before xmass

When in Maybole I visit this restaurant for a take away, it’s never been the best but nice enough. Tonight I was there and someone brought their dish back as they were not happy with the the standard and advised me there is new owners that have taken over - it made sense given the fact the place was empty. I had asked for my dish to be made a certain away (as always) and when I got back it had everything in it I asked for it not to have. The chicken didn’t look appetising and the sauce was bland and tasteless. A huge disappointment and I will not be back again.

Usually phone here to get a takeaway. Phoned tonight in a Saturday at 7:30, when it wasn't engaged then it was just ringing out. If you can run a takeaway service on a busy Saturday night then don't run a takeaway!!

King prawn and chicken curry. Well it was a decent home made curry sauce far better than the usual box or packet curry. It was nice proper chicken with a bite and the prawns were nice enough. If I lived in the area I would use it again.

From the outside it doesn't seem much but inside the decoration is beautiful. Dinner was very good and very reasonable. Sammy (the waitress) was very friendly and took time to speak with us.

Have gone here for years food always good but very disappointed today . My friends and I took our 4 grand children for dinner aged 3 - 6 . 3 of the children wanted tap water . The other with a dash of black currant and fully expected to pay for the dash . But they charged £1.5O for tap water I complained all that was offers was 50p off the bill . I have looked into it and it’s illegal to charge for ta Asking for tap water. Most restaurants, pubs and bars don't have to provide free tap water to the public. If they do, they can charge for it since the provision of any water includes an element of service. p water !!!!!

Recommend you try this take away.....we used to travel into Ayr for our Chinese ....not anymore. I don’t know if it has changed hands... or has a new chef . We haven’t had a bad meal out of it yet....please try.

Never ate in but sure it’ll be good always get a takeaway either ribs or salt n chilli munchy box I always enjoy it it’s my guilty pleasure

The food and service in this restaurant were excellent. All the dishes that were brought to our table were perfect and the staff were friendly and pleasant. The interior is comfortable and clean.

Travelling through Maybole after a day out at culzean with family and stopped off here for dinner. Friendly staff and the food was excellent. The kids agreed to it was excellent! Will definitely be back if out this way in the future. Thank you

After a weekend of working my partner & I returned home. Our son was at Nana and papas so we took the opportunity to go out for a meal. We had just moved to Maybole but I had heard some good things about Po King so we decided to sit in for a meal. We took the three course option and it was honestly the BEST restaurant we had visited. Service was second to none, just spot on & very quick. My partner doesn't normally eat many prawn crackers but they were so tempting and addictive, these were provided while we waited for our meal. My partner had the chicken noodle soup while I opted for the veg spring roll. I can't speak for my partner however he did clean the bowl with not a drop in sight, but the spring roll of it was devine, my partner joked if I was going to eat the plate itself. I had the vegetable in black bean sauce with rice, my partner chilli chicken and chips, just the right size portions for each of us, well presented. We Finnished with ice cream & a banana fritter. This place is an absolute must visit. Since we have made this our regular takeaway & I can't wait to return for our anniversary meal. Yum!

Have just had an excellent meal at Po King Maybole. The food was excellent. Really tasty and of great quality. Wine was very good and well priced. Service was friendly and just right.

We love this restaurant. Good quality food and great service. We’ve been ordering from here for 3 years without any complaint. We sat in at the weekend for the first time and had s great night. The restaurant manager is really friendly, good choice of beers and wine. Reasonably priced too. Def recommend.

Use Po King a lot. Food always excellent, prawn crackers are fantastic i love them. Food always hot and wrll tasty.

Going to visit boyfriends family near Stranraer and stopped for a meal on the way. We'd been before and loved it, we weren't disappointed this time. I was really hungry and cleared my plates with ease. The chicken satay was lovely - I had it from a carry out at a local restaurant at home and that was horrible - this was amazing. If you have the chance go. You won't be disappointed.

Nice restaurant on Maybole main st and it was the first time I bought a carry out meal to take to my caravan. I would go again and try the chicken curry.

We have been getting take away from this restaurant for a good number of years after trying another Chinese in Ayr which was shocking ! Absolutely amazing we can never fault it . Always so tasty and extremely quick service ! And low on price . Very polite staff on the phone also and always plenty of food thank you keep the good food coming thank you the stericker family

This Chinese restaurant may not look much from the main street, but prepare to be wrong. It is much larger inside and is beautifully decorated in the Chinese style. The tables are large and easily take 4-5 people.

Situated. At the bottom of Maybole high Street is the Po King Chinese restaurant and carry out, this is a relatively clean restaurant of average standard, this was the first occasion that I had eaten in it have once used the carry out section which was not to my liking, in truth what can be said when doing a report on a restaurant, well the truth is in my view the food is of poor quality and we did not enjoy our meal.

Had not been here for a while. Still good and well worth the money. Staff pleasantly helpful as usual. Food...

Excelente menú y su siempre garantizada una cálida bienvenida. Es nuestro local así que quizás el sesgo, pero siempre estamos contentos con nuestra comida, los precios son razonables y porciones lo suficientemente generosos como para compartir.

Ordered take-away, the fried rice was awful, it came out the foil container in a clump, don't know how fresh it would be. Lemon chicken had no flavour, chicken satay sauce tasted cheap and nasty, most of it went in the bin. This used to be a good place to go to, but never again.

Never been disappointed yet . Meals are generous portion size and staff friendly . The garlic chilli king prawns are a winner any day of the week

We used this restaurant quite a few times in the past but it has went down hill rapidly over the past year. Quality, Portions, Service just not the same any more. Last few takeaways have went in the bin as they were terrible. Even speaking to many of the local people they say the same thing about it. There is another takeaway just up the road about 30 yards, this is much better and has been really good so far.

This was our first visit to the restaurant.Staff were very good food was delivered very quickly .Could not fault the food at all and very reasonable priced.Will use again on our next visit.Highly recommended.

We always visit Po- King and the Owner always makes us so welcome. The set price lunch menu 11.30 to 2pm is great value for three courses.

My wife daughter and i visited this lovely restaurant for Friday night dinner. The service is very quick and efficient. Food is great with big portions and prices reasonable too. Lovely meal in a lovely restaurant.

After having enjoyed a takeaway we decided to go and sit in for dinner. The three course dinner was only £9.95 per head and was well worth the visit. Food was plentiful and and some of the best Chinese food I've tasted.

Having visited this restaurant a while ago we returned having enjoyed it the first time. We were not disappointed, The three course menu is very good value, the food was plentiful and tasty. The place is pleasant and not cramped.

We first bought a carry out meal about a month again while on our way to Maidens. Thoroughly enjoyed it so today we went for lunch. It was delicious. The ribs with sauce were a treat. Will definitely be back next time we are heading to Maidens.

Lovely takeaway and sit in restaurant, family friendly, great deals all day all wee. They do close for a couple of hours in the afternoon so best to phone ahead to checl opening times.

I am loathed to review Chinese Restaurants in general as I have never been blown away by the quality of the food in any of them. I would have to say that the PO King in Maybole really lives up to my lack of expectations of Chinese food but it is inexpensive and fresh enough. The service is warm and friendly and, given the total lack of choice of decent food establishments in the town I would have to say this is the best. We only occasionally find ourselves in a Chinese restaurant and, given it's proximity to us, this is the one.This is not going to overwhelm you but it not going to kill you either so it is fair to say I think it is fair!

Staying on a local caravan site - this takeaway was very good and delivered directly to us. Good size portions and good price.

Inside not very welcoming decor dull, usual menu on offer but standard of food nothing to write home about sweet and sour a bit on the bitter side and the chicken dish tasteless, there is a carry out section which to my surprise was doing plenty of business my advice is to try the Chinese carry out a few doors up the High Street much better food to take away

This is one of the nicest Chinese restaurants I've been to in a long time, both to sit in and takeaway. Never had a bad meal standards are always high.

Descusting that's all won't be back. simons all the way chow main was tasteless prawn cocktail was far to sweet was like a desert never eat any of my main meal at all won't be back

I have had a few meals in the po-king as well as take-aways and always found the staff very freindly and food is good.

Phoned for delivery of food from po king Chinese Maybole Ayrshire kA19 7DD. I waited one hour and 20minutes for the food to be delivered.I requested a refund which I am still waiting to receive.Poor service manners, and it's nice to smile does not cost much to do so!! Also I would rate this experience 'zero' ratings!.The delivery arrived the food was ''freezing'' the food was then disposed of as friends and I were not hungry and plus the food quality was awful!.This happened last year and it is still continuing so I refuse to use this service and will be reporting this matter to other agency's as this is unacceptable and should be a concerning matter and taking further!.With regards Negative feedback customer!

We ordered a delivery at 10.45 was at the door by 10.50 everything was cold had to heat up in the microwave phoned poking to tell them and the manager sent delivery driver back to collect the food and send us a replacement the management sent our money back and we got told we were barred from poking well as a local of maybole this is shocking way to run a business our rice prawn curry chicken and chips all were heated in the microwave before we contacted poking what a way to treat your customers definitely will not be back HAPPY DAYS the other chinese in maybole is lovely and would never treat costomers like that

Had a sit in meal last night with my friend and her son . Meal was amazing 3 courses for £9 both our meals were brilliant. Will defo be returning soon x

I have had many a carry out meal from this restaurant and it has always been very enjoyable, to be fair i have enjoyed owner Kenny's carryouts for many years when he opened in my old village and never ever did we have a bad meal.My partner and myself decided for a change we would go to the restaurant and sit in, our surroundings were lovely and felt relaxing, the waitress was prompt and polite and took our order. The meal was, as i expected, fantastic kenny and his staff are lovely, not intusive. The bathrooms are immaculate as is the whole restaurant.If chinese is your thing then you wont want to ever eat chinese anywhere else this is my favourite eatery.

Went for a family here tonight and were delighted with the whole evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu was very varied and had something for everyone and the separate children's menu was a good idea too. The food was very tasty and with ample portions. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

We were passing through the area and stopped for a meal. The staff were friendly and we were seated by the window. We sampled an variety of dishes. The dishes arrived hot and the portions were decent sized. Nothing spectacular but fine if you are hungry.

Like this restaurant/takeaway a lot. I love there chicken curry and chips. Very good place to get a takeaway or sit in. Not too high in prices either.

Wife took me in for my tea. I had the evening special she had a la carte! B.B.Q .ribs, chicken curry and a banana fritter for me delicious. Not bothered that her spring roll and shrimp dish was to die for!! And I paid!! Very friendly atmosphere, will return.

Just had a home delivery from here. Food was disgusting and cold. Curry sauce was greasy and tasteless. Chicken omelette looked like it had bee thrown into the container. Chips were greasy and cold and the chicken balls were vile. The only decent thing was the prawn crackers. Total waste of money and left hungry. Avoid at all costs. I'd have given it a zero score had there been that option. Very disappointing.

Kenny and his team make you feel welcome in what is a very nice Chinese Restaurant. I have eaten here from the set menu and from the more substantial prime time menu. The previous menu is pretty standard to most Chinese restaurants i have been in, with the price being very reasonable. The latter being more expensive, but of a higher quality (again what you would expect) Although the cheaper option is of greater value, i think it is worth paying a bit more for quality. The aromas in the place make you continually wish you had ordered that specific dish, but my Fillet of Beef Cantonese style, after eating soup, had me raving to my party. The Chinese dont do sweets ...thankgoodness

They open at 4.30pm. The dining area is relatively new to the town. The service was good the food was good and freshly prepared. I had the set meal which was excellent. I shall visit again and also might even order from the take away menu and have it delivered locally for £1.30. Great restaurant and I wish them well.

Maybole is not the most exciting of Ayrshire towns but we were there and we needed to eat. We made a good choice. This Chinese restaurant provided us with a very good meal. We were made very welcome by the friendly staff . The service was very efficient and the food plentiful and tasty. Our 2 course meal with drinks was less than £40 for 3 people.We enjoyed our evening there very much.

Having decided on eating Chinese that evening we choose the Po King from a couple of similar restaurants in the area. We were not disappointed. The food was plentiful and tasty. It is a largish restaurant and seemed a little bare in the middle but the decoration was pleasant and typical Chinese. The service was friendly and efficient. The total bill for four meals and drinks was just under £43, which I thought was very good value. Had we been in the area for longer I am sure we would have returned for a second visit.

Went for a meal with my family. The restaurant has been recently extended and refurbished to very high standards. The decor is light and fresh, giving an overall clean and appealing appearance. The service was excellent and staff were friendly and very efficient. The menu is what you would expect in any Chinese restaurant. The food we ordered was delicious and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend a visit when your in this area.
