Wonderful country pub with great food and good service

Nice old traditional country pub. We go for the quiz and a couple of beers, but they also do really good food.

Very good food in this old traditional pub

After a 5 mile walk this was exactly what we wanted. Very accommodating, very nice Sunday roast (and ribs) and efficient friendly service. They seem to have everything right. Definitely recommend and will return one day.

Can't fault the place. We had a lovely family meal with the grandparents. Service was very smooth and efficient, with us waiting just enough time between courses to be ready for the next. Some of us managed 3 courses but portion sizes are on the larger size, (you will not leave feeling hungry). My starter was fantastic (crispy duck roll), but the rest of the party also loved everything they had. I had read a couple of negative reviews, but not sure how their experience was so different to ours. I would highly recommend a visit.

Food was good but unfortunately not dog friendly although the proprietor was sitting at the with his dog and made it clear we had to sit in the garden to eat

Had a lovely Sunday evening dinner /pudding / wine with my daughter and Bobbi her dog. The drive there from Leigh-on-Sea was beautiful, seeing birds of prey and Partridges. Plenty of room to sit outside, nice and peaceful. Food was fantastic, plenty of it cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful with lovely smiles. Will see you all again soon 😍 Thank you all.

Had a lovely meal on a sunny day in this pub. Meat was cooked well and the mash and vegetables were amazing. Will definitely want to return in the future. Will note limited vegan options however.

Starters lovely main meal disappointing all over cooked had steak and stilton pie all mush all vegetables overcooked chips boring not crispy should have been tripled cooked as they were very big chunky ones tasteless the waitress staff very polite and did get the meal taken of our bill its ashame but so easily didn't have to be with basic food love the drive out and a great pub x

Lovely sunny day at a country pub, I had roast lamb, followed by Jamie's lemon curd and mascarpone cheesecake, my Auntie prawn cocktail and lasagna, our friend Brenda had prawns in garlic and lamb 🥩, We then sat in the sun , 🌞 great service and food thanks 🙏 Ps if you are tall you need to duck, as low beams !!

We had a private village meal at the pub last night and can honestly say it was brilliant. The staff, food and surroundings were spot on. The food quality and presentation was perfect. They fed and watered over 50 people and it was faultless. Thank you to Rob and his staff.

A hidden gem! A welcome stop after a long riverside walk on Easter Day. We hadn't booked but they fit us in. Food was gorgeous. A busy pub/restaurant but worth visiting.

Booked a table in advance for lunch , good move as they were busy. Charming small old pub . Attention from the staff was friendly and good. We mains and dessert from the daily specials. Beautifully cooked. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Staff were lovely, service was great. Unfortunately, I had the cod and chips. The fish tasted of nothing and the batter was very sloppy. Told the waitress, she apologised but that was the end of that. Not a cheap place to eat, so I expected more customer care.

Came here for a birthday lunch, whilst the atmosphere was great, the food wasn't amazing (particularly the mains). Our starters were good as were the deserts. I think the main thing that let you down was the service. We had to keep getting up from our table and seeking out a waitress to get simple things like more water glasses (given 4 on a table of 8), side plates for the shared camembert starter, and finally the bill.

Had lovely meal four of us went for Sunday lunch very nice. Great service and atmosphere.

50th birthday meal with some surprise family guests. I had a fabulous time. The food was amazing for all, and the service was spot on. Haven't visited for over 15 years and still can't fault a thing. Will return but alot sooner next time I promise 🙏

A special little pub at the end of a lane. Low ceilings in this ancient pub, with an outside area. Very safe for children, loads of parking. Friendly helpful staff.

We booked for a Sunday roast at 5 pm. When we arrived we were told that they had sold out at 2 pm. When I asked why we were not called to tell the situation the girl just said that this always happens... if this always happens why allow us to book a Sunday roast at 5 pm or make more so you cover the later slots, it's not brain surgery. Instead, we had to have pie and mash which was just average.

First time eating here. I heard many good things about this place, but it now seems quite overrated. The pub and surroundings are beautiful, but I was not impressed with the food or service. We were seated near the front door where we were completely forgotten, and many people struggled to take their drinks outside because of the latch (we frequently got up to help them). The pan-fried scallops were served cold and had no flavour. There were a variety of mains available, though the sea bass was oversaturated with fennel, which ruined the flavour. We ordered some desserts, including some ice cream, because of the amount of time we had been waiting and because it was busy, but there was no sign of a waitress for quite a while. I ended up asking for the bill (it arrived before dessert), and I had to cancel dessert and ask them to amend the bill as we were not willing to stay there any longer - it was loud, kids were screaming and running around, and we became tired of waiting. I also wanted to highlight that the person who picked up the phone when I made the reservation sounded like she couldn't be bothered and was quite rude. I understand it's a very popular and busy place a lot of the time, but the overall experience was very disappointing, and I don't think that I would return.

Visited with friends 24th September 23, beautiful place idyllic setting. We had a waitress called Molly who was fabulous, very chatty kind informative. Food was lovely for starters I had the salmon and cream cheese very generous portions. Delicious, for main had the roast beef it's was lovely but just a roast, will definitely be back to taste the rest of the menu. Went into the garden for drinks after where they have an Avery very pleasant area to finish off a lovely afternoon with friends.

Dinner for eight yesterday evening. Excellent food, generous portions and great atmosphere. Staff friendly and very efficient. Well done everyone - we will definitely return 👍👍

Traditional country pub with great food and ales, and lovely staff who always have a smile and some banter. I've also arrived previously by kayak via Pagelsham Creek, and the staff have not batted an eyelid with the wetsuit and paddle I turned up with.

Wasn't very impressed. Booked for daughter in laws birthday 2 weeks ago.When we got there, had a drink before birthday girl arrived. Was told to move from where I was sitting due to table being booked. I did say we have booked for 8 people, moved anyway. Then to top that our table was given to someone else. It had our name and phone number on the booking but the lady said the other party said it was theirs. Waited for another table to be told no more roast dinners as sold out. What we did get Wasn't what I would call tasty and was overpriced. Will not be going back. Totally ruined the day for our birthday girl..

Very nice olde worlde style pub with low ceilings and nice atmosphere. I had the fish n chips which was very nice, fresh and plenty of it too. My wife chose a burger and was very pleased with it. Good selection of ales as well as standard lager/cider etc. Staff were efficient and very helpful. I would definitely go again

We love this 300 year old pub nestling in Paglesham East End, great food, local ales and plenty of walking routes along the River Roach.

Hearty food, big portions and great service. Any seafood dish here is a winner. The building itself is beautiful. Proper classic country pub.

We go here occasionally in the summer when we go for a countryside drive stop off. It's peaceful with inside and outside seating, we sat outside in the garden next to the big birdhouse, very reasonably priced drinks actually ,I had cola as was driving but the wife enjoyed her 2 bacardi and cokes. Didn't have food so can't rate but whatever was cooking smelt amazing! Lovely old building with exposed beams and a low ceiling. A real country pub that should be on your visit list.

Booked a table for 15 people for my mums birthday, on arrival we were on two separate tables & not enough seats for the amount of people their was so we had to all squeeze in which meant we were very uncomfortable, the waitress with the frizzy hair was so miserable and we felt everything we asked for was a problem she was so rude and me & my family won’t be returning again.

Always friendly and fabulous food! Book though!

It was such a nice pub/restaurant to visit. The staff are very friendly, the food is superb and there is plenty of it. Our 2nd weekend visit in 2 weeks. Plenty of space to sit out, and they have an overflow carpark, too.

Eaten here countless times and it’s always fantastic. Staff are all lovely. Food is incredible and cooked with care! The ribs, steak, roast dinners, Halloumi, tiger prawns, steak and Stilton pie, sweet potato burger, lamb, all fantastic! I’ve tried more from here but I can’t remember it all! The location is excellent too, and it’s not priced badly. Thanks very much

We called in on our way back from a walk along the river. It was a Sunny day and the place was buzzing. The lady who was in charge of the restaurant was very polite on what was clearly a busy day and told me there would be a wait but in truth it wasn't that long and sitting in the sunshine was not a chore! I had scampi and chips and it was lovely.

As good as ever! Huge menue of home cooked food. Took a few friends here and they were all delighted! Food reasonably priced, large portions. I had the steak and kidney pie. All their pies are fabulous! Massive choice of deserts too, you won't leave feeling hungry! Well done all the hard working staff, top meal! Geoff

The pub is in a beautiful, relaxed setting. The bar staff are really friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious. I would definitely recommend it.

Nice views and surrounding places, great little out of the way pub for a sit down drink outside after a nice dog walk Wouldn't chose to eat food there again, the flagship burger left alot to be desired. And the calamari wasnt up to standard.

Plough and Sail Pagglesham has been an old favourite of ours for many years. I have always given good reviews so it hurts me to say that our last visit was not up to standard. The steak and kidney pie had no kidney and didn't taste of any either. The steak and stilton also had little or no stilton which one cudtomer complained about and got it changed.
