Friendly little hidden gem. Good selection of beers and good knowledge of train times! The latter doubtless acquired through time. Worth making time for a visit especially if travelling by train anyway.

Quaint bar right on the station platform (The name is a giveaway!!). Run by a chatty, older couple. Nice room with station memorabilia. Good selection of ales, plus tea/coffee/cakes. Nice place to startb(and finish), a visit to Hexham.

The Platform Bar on Hexham station is a delightful place with a real period feel to it - you almost expect Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson to make an appearance. They have about three real ales on sale as well as Grolsch lager (which is now a sensible 4% these days). Service was welcoming and it’s a lovely place for a beer. And do look at the fabulous old cash register behind the bar.

The Platform Bar is a pleasant addition to the listed Hexham station and is based on a converted office in the station. I visited for a coffee and cake and for £ 5, this is quite reasonable and a pleasant way to spend time waiting for a train. Also the cafe offers sandwiches and alcoholic drinks at reasonable prices and is like a traditional station buffet, but pleasanter and a higher standard than the British Rail buffets some people will remember. Other things visitors might like about the Plarform Bar are the old railway posters, photos of steam trains and other railwayana. Also the service was good, another bonus.

A wonderful little pub with a warm welcome. At least 3 real ales and 2 real ciders plus coffee and cakes. Always someone different to talk to as people come off their trains!

Lovely little station bar on Hexham station, excellent place for a quick tea or coffee while waiting for your train. Also do real ales - good selection. Cakes looked delicious, but no time to sample. Interesting article on the wall about the station 50 years ago. Better option than the uphill walk into town for Wetherspoons! But quite small, would think it could get very busy.

Welcoming and cheerfully overcoming failed technology with a good old fashioned carbon copy card imprint today. Will definitely be back.

I was travelling between Diss and Annan on the train and ended up at Hexham with an hour before my connection. Went into the bar only to be amazed at how snug and cosy it was. Staff were mega friendly as several of us were waiting for the train to Carlisle, lots of stories told about the bar and its decor well worth a stop.

We hired the whole bar for Wed night exclusive reunion with a choice of hot food and three real ale handpumps. Fantastic evening thanks and obviously great public transport links. Some of us stayed overnight in the adjacent Station Inn. Really good beer, service and thanks for an enjoyable evening. Recommended for a party 12 to 25 easily From Nigel

Good idea to arrive on the station early so you can pop into the bar. Personally I found the music spoilt it - especially as the place becomes quite noisy as soon as a few customers arrive. If you agree with me, mention it to the staff because they think everybody likes the music.

What a great addition to this pretty station, perfect to while away the wait for a train at any time of day. A small bar which serves excellent beer from the independent owner's own brewery, hot drinks including lovely hot chocolate, and a good range of sandwich options. The atmosphere is welcoming and inclusive, a mix of friendly locals who call in for a pint, and train passengers grateful for a sanctuary!

We didn’t realise this was here as we embarked on a pub crawl around Hexham from the train station. But what a find! Good selection of local beers as well as a great range of other alcoholic beverages and hot drinks. It’s the perfect location for a drink before or after a train journey, or even if you’re not using the train station!

The Platform Bar is on platform 2 at Hexham railway station (the westbound platform for trains to Carlisle). It is quaint, homely and cosy, with top quality customer service from Daniel amongst others and a range of beers, wines & spirits...however what really sets it apart from similar establishments, is the quality of the food. My & my girlfriend after a moderately successful day at Hexham races, and were peckish. Having almost half an hour to wait before our train to Carlisle, en route home to Liverpool, we were very impressed at the choice of hot/cold food & hot/soft drinks available. I opted for a ham & red onion chutney white bap; my girlfriend selected a tuna mayo brown bap. They were £3.00 each...and were magnificently worth every one of those 300 pennies each. The ham was thick, plentiful and mature, with the high-quality accentuated by the use of butter (not cheap & nasty margarine or spread) and sweet yet piquant red onion chutney. My girlfriend is not a fan of tuna mayo when the mayo far outweighs the tuna (Subway, for all their brilliance, are guilty of this amongst others). Well, she was enthralled with her bap - the dolphin-friendly tuna was plentiful and had a smooth texture and the mayonnaise had just enough of it and was of a consistency to complement the tuna. She was well impressed! We did originally think that we would have to eat somewhere closer to home as we travelled on that Saturday evening. However these baps were that that large, crammed with filling and satisfying, that we were full after eating these baps and needed nothing further to eat that evening, even though Virgin train delay & Northern Rail cancellation meant that we di not get home until 23:20, having eaten these baps about 17:50. If you are ever in Hexham, make the Platform Bar your first call for fantastic quality food & drink, all at very reasonable prices!

I was recommended the Bari Tea Brewery by a friend and was not disappointed. The range of teas on offer was vast with many interesting flavours! I had the green ginger tea with a scone which was freshly baked and was very tasty! Service was very good and all the staff very friendly.

You have to try afternoon tea here! Likely need to book in advance, we were given a great choice of sandwiches when we booked. On the day, we were seated upstairs right by the window looking over the sea, a fabulous view even on a grey winter afternoon. The food was delicious, more than we could eat though we gave it a good go. Good mix of savoury and sweet, some other afternoon teas elsewhere have too much sweet stuff. Suzanne, the owner, and the staff are so welcoming and helpful, and the cost was so reasonable. I highly recommend this place.

This place is a totally fantastic! Do not miss out on the 'Kipper in a Bun'. I wavered, and thought to maybe have a 'Banger in a Bun' although was so glad I went with the Kipper. Perfectly cooked Kippers, Lemon mayonnaise, in a soft white roll eaten on the beach was just divine. Wife's comments were 'That was Lush!'. Great friendly service and all locally sourced delicious produce. Even the coffee was from Holly Island! All in a free car park!
