Plate At No.6 in Windsor and Maidenhead

Booked dinner on the 28th July. When we got there restaurant was closed. We called and no one answering phones. Also another couple in the same situation standing outside.

An absolute gem. Having dined here this evening we found the menu choice excellent and the service brilliant. They could not do enough to accommodate my specific dietary needs and all dishes were delicious. Would highly recommend.

This was the second time I’ve eaten here, and won’t be the last! From the warm and friendly staff (who were very happy to offer their recommendations on food and wine) to the delicious menu, the meal was a real treat. I particularly enjoyed the arancini, truffle pappardelle, and steak… just make sure you leave enough room for dessert.

Genuinely outstanding food. Starters fantastic particularly the tuna tartare and the mains and sides were absolutely delicious. Had a great atmosphere and really good service can’t recommend highly enough.

From entering the restaurant to tasting the fine wines and food, everything was amazing . All the menu was explained and dishes described and beautifully presented. Absolute gem of a restaurant and will definitely return. Highly recommended

We had a lovely Saturday lunch, great service and great food! We were made to feel very welcome and well looked after, nothing was too much trouble. I had the scallops which were pefectly cooked and my partner had the prawns "best ever" all washed down with a superb Gavi, a crisp white Italian wine as recommended by Graham and the perfect choice. Too full up for our desert, we had some freshly made Cannoli filled with ricotta cheese and pistachio nicely boxed up to take home with us. Nicely tucked away next to Windsor Castle in Market Street, if you like good quality food, freshly made and a bit of class this is the place for you!

Food was fantastic! The staff were friendly and the chef was great. Tapas is my favourite quinine and this did not disappoint. A real Mediterranean vibe - will definitely be returning

We were quite excited to dine here as every time we walked by in the passed few months it was rammed. Not tonight, people may have heard the rumours. First thing we are told upon sitting down and that unfortunately they are out of most red wines on their wine list. ‘Which ones are you out of’ we ask, the waitress wasn’t able to tell us and just giggled. We ordered two Hendricks and tonic. The waitress comes back and says they don’t have Hendricks but they have the other 3/6 gins on the menu. We chose an available gin. 5 minutes later, they arrive with two gins in white wine glasses and present us with Mediterranean tonic. We ordered regular Indian. Waitress comes back to take our order, runs away mid order intermittent to make sure the kitchen has the dishes we were asking for. We order white wine for the starters, and then we learn that, unlike the red which they are discounting to compensate for their current bottom of the menu priced wine, that there is no drinkable white wine to our taste. We decide to keep our aperitifs and have a discounted red for our mains. I may add that one of their only available whites, a pouilly, can be purchased at Majestic for £19.99 while on their menu it is £90. No discounts on the white however. Our starters arrive, the scallops stinking of old fish, and we decide to have our red wine. The waitress arrives with the bottle, despite us asking for her to open it and let it breathe 20 minutes ago, clumsily uncorks it from our table, without asking us for a taste, serves us both a glass. The mains arrive. Gnocchi and risotto. See photo on this review for visuals of gnocchi. What my partner said was reinforced by what my mum said when I sent her a photo: ‘it looks like a plate of dog food with no gnocchi’. If you tried to pick up a gnocchi, it stringingly plopped back into the plate into the sea of what they said was a fish ragu of some description, but presented as diced spam in a gelatinous salty lump. To her credit, the waitress noticed our confusion and replaced the plate. The outcome was a less deconstructed gnocchi in the same pile of gloop. We did not stay for dessert and they graciously removed 20% of the gnocchi from the bill. To be nice, we will omit a review of the risotto. I don’t think I’ll be able to face gnocchi for the foreseeable.

My hubby and I decided to try out a few new restaurants in Windsor and booked to visit Plate At No. 6 Thursday 26th January. We were welcomed by a very bubbly front of house member of staff and taken to our seats. The restaurant was warm with a great calming and relaxing atmosphere. Food arrived quickly and was hot and delicious, full of flavours and colour. The menu was Bespoke but varied. I am usually one for chicken, however there were no chicken options so I opted for pan fried Seabass, fennel and orange salad, and I am now a convert. A very fussy eater, no fat, no bones just simply perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband opted for the Beef Fillet, again cooked to perfection. Several sides, although not really necessary and finished off with a delicious dessert and all flushed down with a gorgeous bottle of Cotes-Du-Rhone. We will be going back and we have already recommended the restaurant to friends. Thank you Chef, excellent food!!

A talented Chef producing amazing food! Everyone was lovely and friendly. Great atmosphere in a little bit intimate setting. Always try to find non chain restaurants and this was our first visit. Will definitely recommend and will absolutely revisit. Surprised to see some less enthusiastic feedback? 7 hospitality professionals that used to work together years ago decided to meet here for dinner. I live in Windsor and was very excited to try out and support a new independent restaurant (just what Windsor needs!). How bitterly disappointing. Having sent pre-orders on the request of the restaurant, taken the time to send out, chase, collate and send back, the last thing I was expecting was any problems with what we wanted to eat. We were informed on arrival that most things on the menu (two menus in fact) were not available. I explained we had sent a pre-order and they advised it had not been received. Perhaps a call ahead to speak to us about the missing choices would have been fortuitous? When asked what they don’t have available the waitress giggles and unfolded her notebook to uncover two pages of a list and said ‘it might be easier to say what we do have”. I’m glad she found it amusing. We didn’t. It came down to the fact that all the non vegetarians had to have rice balls, smoked salmon and steak. No real choice in the matter. Nothing available for gluten free vegetarian, so side orders of veg were the only choice. When the steaks arrived one was well done when nobody requested well done and we were a steak short! When this was pointed out they offered to make another, by the time it arrived everyone else had finished their small portions and it wasn’t a sirloin steak that arrived at all, a completely different dish?! The saddest thing was that the food we did have was very tasty. I’d say the chef is decent and accomplished and the lack of available ingredients and professional waiting staff is severely letting him down. They did offer a 10% discount to the bill. It was a catalog of errors. We had to wave waiters down for wine and top ups of drinks etc. needless to say I won’t be returning and I hope for their future this was a teething issue that gets sorted quickly. The sad fact is, most places simply don’t get a second chance to prove that one way or another. Especially with as much choice as you have in Windsor. Good Luck. You’re gonna need it.

Average food, and possibly the worst service I’ve experienced at a restaurant. After complaining about the service, the manager then didn’t know how to handle the queries. Just don’t bother.

This is a hidden gem in the middle of Windsor. Outstanding Mediterranean dishes perfectly cooked. Service friendly, informed, fun and efficient. The fillet of beef,and rare tuna strongly recommended.
