Went for lunch and were probably their first customers on a Thursday afternoon. Portions generous, prices quite reasonable, and quality high. Loads of large, well fried and moreish chips, large fish fillets, tasty batter, although my haddock was better than the cod my wife had which was a less tasty and appealing dish. Haddock I would rate as excellent, Cod I would rate as average. Will go back in future. EDITED - went back on Saturday lunchtime and got MASSIVE plaice and chips and big spicy chicken burger to feed an adult and two kids…for THIRTEEN POUNDS! Amazing. Upgrade to five stars, these guys are absolutely crushing it.

Taken a dive in the last six months. Tonights food was sub par. Used to be really really good. Dirty oil and lunch time chips for dinner was not a great meal. They have put their prices up too and slipped in quality and freshess. Will be going back to 1st quay

Epic fish and chips! We selected this ‘plaice’ on the strength of its reviews and locality, we were not disappointed and after a great takeaway will visit be back again…. And again…. We ordered a large con and chips and the portions were huge. The prices are around the same as most other takeaways, but the quality is supreme.

We had Haddock n Chips I have found this to be the best in the 28yrs I have lived in this area. I am Scottish and this is the closest thing to a Scottish Fish Supper Were very fussy about our Fish Suppers in Scotland 😋🐠 Fish was perfection chips were 'real' non greasy. Delicious. Second try a year later. Cod (for my father) ok, chips, he would not eat as he said they were hard and reheated? I am not sure.. but I waited an age for our order when there were only two others in front of me… (one pushed in.. naughty boys!) I tried a chicken donna wrap for something different, but regretted it. Last time I think I had one was 20+years ago, now know why I never ordered again! Hot, soggy salad is not for me either. Feedback to owner… I would prefer a more ‘healthy option’ of no wrap and chicken and fresh salad in a carton so it stays fresh. But I am unlikely to go back again. Actually only reason I went in, was because the new pizza place next doors (10/10!) is only open lunchtimes Fri/Sat/Sun..

Lovely people and huge meals I can never eat it all and I do try hard as the fish is delicious. Well worth every penny.

Oh my goodness.... had a selection of cod, sausage, chips and fish cakes or a family get together tonight and it was amazing. It beat us all and we can eat!!!! Good quality, huge portions and great value. Seriously all you can ask for from a chippie. We'll be back!!!

Great little chipshop, never had any poor quality items, I always ring ahead, saves a wait (which at peak times can be quite long).

Not up to usual standard. Tasted nice but large kebab with salad was more like large salad with small kebab. Small kebab with extra chilli sauce had even less meat and did not taste like it had extra chilli sauce. Small chips tasted nice.

Brilliant... just how a fish and chip shop should be. When it comes to chip shops this is a must have everytime.

When I arrived to stay with an elderly relative and I had to go out once a week for a take away. I was told to go here. In the past I understand it was a really good chippie. But although the service was friendly and polite, the food I was served seemed a bit over greasy and not very nice tasting. I then found out why.. I travelled a bit further into Purbrook village where for a little more the quality is way superior! Although handy, this greasy spoon does not hit the mark in our household. Also £1.75??? for a small pot of mushy peas? (I can get 4 cans in Lidl for that!)

I have been using this chippy every week for years and it's by far, one of the best chippys in the area. Nice friendly and polite staff, serving all your traditional chippy foods, plus burgers, kebabs, jacket potatoes and more.

Extremely satisfied with the food and prices. Lovely and clean , polite friendly staff. Disabled parking near by. Definitely worth a visit. Sadly no delivery tho.

This used to be a cracking fish and chip shop, but the Plaice On The Hill has gone rapidly downhill in the last two months. I know the pandemic is having an effect, but for the third visit running I waited 45 minutes (outside) for a simple order of two large cod, sausage and chips. I wasn’t alone. A fair crowd were getting more and more frustrated at the service. Where to start? The two girls there are simply not cut out for the job. Slow beyond belief, disorganised and rude. The organisation of the shop is dreadful. Get a simple ticket system, please. It will help you serve people in order and it will be obvious to those waiting who is next. It’s not rocket surgery. When you have 6/7 people waiting, hold off taking more orders until you have cleared your decks. And for heaven’s sake serve people in the order they order. Watching the second or third person who ordered after you walk away with your two large cod is sole destroying (sic). Such a shame. Maybe they have stopped trying since the fire in the Chinese chip shop next door. If you do decide to risk it... take a chair and a good book!

The food is always hot and freshly cooked to order.They have a great menu,everything you'd expect from a traditional fish and chip shop plus kebabs,burgers,jacket potatoes and more. Great sized portions, 2 small chips are enough to feed my family of 5.Highly recommended.

We've tried a lot of fish & chop shops in and around Portsmouth and this is by far the best! Large cod and chips huge and delicious. Massive white flakes of beautifully cooked cod and very good prices. Recommend to anyone! Don't try the rest...try the best!!
