Stopped by to grab a bag of chips and whilst the young lady serving was nice, the chips and the cost were not. Lots of little bits - luke warm and not much in the portion either..at most 2 medium potatoes worth. When I asked for the blue light/defence discount after seeing the poster offering this, this was declined due to not having photo ID despite showing the membership card. My recommendation is to go a short journey to Deep Blue chippy in Bedhampton. No problem, bigger portion, great food, cheaper! :)

We got the munch box this evening and the food was absolutely delicious. The salt and pepper squid was definitely a family favourite and the chips were definitely the best I've had from a local chip shop. Fresh and tasty, we'll definitely be coming back again soon.

The service was very poor so as the attitude of the girl serving me. Will never buy again from them. Felt as if l my money was not good enough. Please ensure you never over charge customers

What's the point in pre-ordering when you have to wait half an hour after collection time? Also available on Uber eats aswell as busy with walk ins. Can't cope! Poor show... Then to reply to my review and call me a liar. I arrived at 6:30pm and was sat in my car (around the corner) for just over 30 minutes waiting for a friend to collect the order I'd booked at 6:30pm and was taking straight to a friends just down the road. I didn't reach them until 7;15pm. You work it out. At least own your mistakes. Don't come back with false facts. It's a bit embarrassing and I wouldn't have needed to write a poor review in the first place. Really disappointing....

Great local chippy. Decent prices and food quality.

The first time we bought fish, pea fritters and chips here, the food was excellent, first rate, the fish was cooked perfectly, the batter light and crispy, the chips and pea fritters delicious. Unfortunately, on the second occasion, the food was very disappointing. The batter on the fish was undercooked, soft and greasy. Suspect the chips were from lunchtime, definitely not as good as the first visit.

Wait was far too long and girls serving weren’t interested in customers whatsoever. They were more interested in each other and service was poor. Food average and portion sizes not great.

Not particularly very nice. Chips were chewy and tasted like they had been kept warm since lunchtime. I guess this may be because it was a quiet Thursday night. Fish was ok but more batter than fish. Chick & mush pie was nice as was the pineapple fritter.

Always such amazing food cooked to perfection, even on the busier nights we have never had an issue with food or friendly counter staff and the younger lad in the kitchen . Tonight the food was outstanding! We will be back.

I've had many many meals from 1st Quay. All excellent. My wife is extremely particular about what she eats and has visited many other fish and chip take-aways in the south, including London. This to her, is by far the best.

dinner for two Chips wouldn’t feed a adult let alone two adults maybe times are hard in the potato world

Pre-ordered; 2x large cod, chips, mushy peas & curry sauce for collection at 18.10, got there at 18.07 & confirmed my name/order. Shop very busy given it was Friday night, food regularly served, however, by 18.20 still no sign of my order despite most of the other walk ins having their food and 2 other pre-orders who came in and confirmed after me getting their food. I politely queried the young guy behind the counter where my order was and didn’t get any sort of answer as to the delay. A number of people who had walked in and ordered after I arrived also had food and departed. Eventually got my order at 18.26 …… food absolutely fabulous again but I fail to understand what is the point in pre-ordering, when it has no benefit to delivery time!

We've used 1st Quay ever since Georgina & Greg took it over and probably get Friday night supper from there ~30-40 times a year. The food is great and the staff friendly We would never go anywhere else - why would we when it's so close and the best around?

Very nice takeaway shop. Situated in purbrook beside the mini roundabout. They definitely use fresh oil to cook their food. The chips are lovely as was the fish. Friday night 100% will be calling in again. Fantastic and friendly people.

This fish and chip shop was offering free delivery when spending £10 on Mon and Tues until Jan, having used this place several times this seemed a good offer.. however watch out for their, what can only be described as a con.. go through the menu, watch the basket, what you don't know is £3 delivery has already been added to the basket, not added at the end like every other such purchase, so what you see in your basket isn't just your food but delivery already added.. so where is the free delivery... what a con. Shant use them again, you have been warned...

Great haddock, lovely batter, great friendly staff but the big let down was the chips. We like full potatoes chips, not wee bits of potatoes. Like we had the bits left over in the fryer.

Fish was terrible like freeze burn never tasted cod like it before, batter over cooked on it also. Curry sauce was like water not taste. Dunno how they say they have won rewards. Definitely won't recommend to no one. Worst in waterlooville and Hampshire. Yes definitely right place as u had one lady and bloke working there this lunch time. Terrible food

It's really hard to find a good chippy now, too many Turkish people taking over fish & chip shops and a lot of them don't seem to know how cook food thoroughly. These guys are not Turkish, it's the first time I've been at this place and their food was absolutely EXCELLENT, will definitely return anytime I'm in this area.

Since staying nearby with my elderly father he likes me to buy in a take away now and again. See my other reviews for other chippies nearer to us. I prefer to book online, (a timed slot when I know it will be ready to collect when I arrive)… and presto! Great consistency in quality and reliability. Worth going the extra mile for! PS Their oil is clean, fresh and doesn’t make the food taste funny.. others take note!

Thought i would visit here after hearing good reviews. But.. chips were soggy and mushy.. not very nice. Chicken chunks.. 4 out of 6 excellent but 2 had to be binned as were very chewy.

Was OK few chips had rotten bits on them. Fish was very greasy. Portion size good would buy again but check chips before I leave shop next time.

Good food. Just need to get rid of the polluting polystyrene trays and switch to cardboard ones. Paper bags, paper wrap round chips,... Polystyrene tray. But food is really good.

We have been using 1st Quay since moving to Purbrook 5 years ago and have NEVER been disappointed with the quality of the food or service. I discovered yesterday that they offer a home delivery service. I was able to easily order and pay for our food online with a £2.50 delivery charge. Our food which was delivered by a friendly young man, was hot and, as always, fresh and delicious. Thank you 1st Quay for providing this fantastic service, especially during these uncertain times.

My cousin and I were in the area as we came over from London to buy a bike and decided to have fish and chips. We did a quick search on Google and 1st Quay came up so we thought let's go for it. We were immediately surprised at how busy they were but that didn't put us off, it just indicated that this place must be great. Initially the staff weren't that engaging but as mentioned they were busy and we understood the situation. Anyway we ordered medium cod and chips. The wait wasn't too bad but we knew that our order will be fresh. Gladly paid the money, noticed that no tissues or forks were provided but never mind and off went to sit in our car to tuck in. My oh my we weren't disappointed, the cod was cooked to perfection and the batter...... while writing this review I can almost still invoke the great taste. The portions were awesome, glad we didn't order the large cod but even the medium was generous. Overall we were really happy with the food. I highly recommend this place, one of those hidden gems. Thanks guys at 1st Quay for providing us a great meal but please talk more and smile more.

I came in last Tuesday sorry for late review I had to wait for my grandson to come and show me how to do it. Anyways I tried to order via the website but being an elder I couldn't so I rang the shop in hope they could help. A young man answered the phone and was very helpful he took my order and told me a time which was best to come and collect. I came down and I wasn't dissapointed! With the whole corona situation I assumed it would be hard work as this is the 1st time we had been out hense failing at the website. I believe his name is ashley. He was an amazing young chap cooked our dinner to perfection and then showed us how to use the website. Being an old codger I went straight over our heads we can hardly use the phone anyways. I just want to thank him for the freshly cooked cod and chips and for the service and patience he gave to us. We are returning every Tuesday now and look forward to more great food from you guys Thanks again Rodney

I’ve been using 1st Quay for over a year now and have found it to be the best fish and chips around. The fish is always nicely cooked and the chips are top quality (not loads of bad ones like you get in a lot of chippy’s). Well done chefs. I read a review that moaned about the staff being moody.....WRONG. I have always found the counter staff very friendly and welcoming. They are also very efficient, even when they are really busy. Unfortunately, I don’t know young ladies names or I’d give them a mention. Well done to the owners/managers...and keep doing what you’re doing.

Chips were very undercooked although not surprising as they were busy but really I should have taken the chips back as they were too hard to enjoy or eat.

Not very friendly staff who got our order wrong, small portions, 8pc scampi instead of 10 advertised (with no tartar), low quality burger and mediocre chips. Suffice to say we won't be going back.

We have probably been using this take away for the last 8 months. Previously, we always had sit down at Mother Kelly’s, but since my elderly parents have become less mobile, I now get takeaway. I think it is fair to say, we have never had a bad meal. Fish is always cooked fresh, so piping hot and chips are very good. The opening times are also very convenient to us. The portions are generous and served in nice cardboard boxes, so no washing up for me!

Probably the best Fish & Chips in THE WORLD. Anyway we are prepared to travel for our food, hence its a 15 minute drive for us. Definitely worth the drive, Clean place, family run and from 16.30hours the punters arrive in their droves. Tried others locally but this is the one we like.

Good fish and chips, nice and hot, food is always ok here for a takeaway however they are let down by employing some extremely moody sulking impolite front counter staff. Not a single please or thank you once from one girl here this evening, there's no need for this grumpiness, if you don't like serving customers find a different job.

Excellent service and best F&C's in Waterlooville.

This has got to be the best chip shop I have ever visited and that is coming from someone who has travelled a lot in my past. My other half told me to come here as I wouldn't be disappointed, and she was right...... the very friendly staff here are always nice and efficient in taking my order and the food is cooked to perfection and is always piping hot even after the short walk home. The food is at a really good price and I get the feeling the team here have taken the time to source out really good produce to serve to us, the hungry public....... pat yourselves on the back guys..... you are fantastic.

Was ok. fish was really greasy and quite watery I got a med and a small cod. Not much taste of it. Glad I got some tartare sauce for the fish. Chips were nice tho.

Use this fish and chip shop all the time now, it is by far the best fish and chips we have every had, never had bad food from here, don’t mind the 5 min wait to have the fish cooked as it’s fresh and piping hot. Service is always with a smile, can’t recommend this chip shop enough.

Pesco y patatas fritas aproximadamente una vez cada quince días y no soy fanático de las patatas fritas.Sin embargo, este lugar cambia eso.Es realmente de primera clase. Las patatas fritas no se vuelven blandas, el eglefino era excelente y crujiente y el servicio es bueno. Claramente clientes bien reconocidos.Vale la pena ir la distancia extra para visitar. Ah, y hacen descuentos para personas mayores que dudo en usar, ya que todavía creo que tengo 40 años.
