Pizza Express - Abingdon in Vale of White Horse

My girlfriend and I visited pizza express in Abingdon last night, what a little gem! Lots of new things on the menu to try. The staff were so friendly and helpful, making us feel at ease with no pressure, they even helped me with a recommendation, I wasn’t disappointed. A well organised crew. Lovely starters, beautiful hot pizza, we even squeezed a very tasty pudding in. Thank you to all of you, we will return again soon.

As always Pizza Express choose fantastic historical buildings so the romantic factor is unequalled. I found the staff here to be very well trained and polite so I am looking forward to a new invitation to be able to up my rating. I am giving this restaurant a low rating for two reasons: 1- the access was indescribably bad. I am not sure who approved the ramp system but the angle was way over 30° and there was a lip on the other side so I was encouraged to 'jump' the lip on exit. As I have a docking system under my powerchair this was not possible. And yet, there was a large paved area outside with Colums which Pizza Express clearly own, and so the ramp purchased could have easily been bought long enough to cover that area. And then a second rubber ramp could be bought for the lip inside the door. Instead people had to waste their time trying to hold down the ramp and prevent me falling at the back. This is a large chain so they have enough money to fix it and a reputation big enough to need to do so. I've left my recommendations with the company and hope to receive an invitation to visit and revise my review as a result of better access. The second reason for a low review would be the pasta dish I received. This was not cooked well, parts of it were dry on the edges and there was no garnish or decoration. It looked and tasted like someone opened a can of tomatoes, poured it over undercooked gluten free pasta and then added frozen prawns with no cooking prep to any of the items. I've never had to do this in my life...but I am afraid I reordered. The staff handled this ever so politely and well. If you are neurodivergent you may struggle with proximity issues in this restaurant. If you have mobility issues and are also neurodivergent then this is not the restaurant for you as the bar area is near the door and the disabled access and eating area is also near the door. The bar is near the door and has lots of metal things clanging so quite disturbing for those with audio processing issues or autism. The chairs also have metal legs and they scrape loudly on the floor making the atmosphere intolerable without ear plugs or defenders for the neurodiverse.

Very good pizzas and doughballs. Service was quick and very friendly. Lovely to sit out in the garden on a hot day. My pizza was so big I had to have part of it boxed up to take home. Tesco clubcard vouchers can be used. Car parks are near by.

We had a great evening at Pizza Express Abingdon yesterday - there were 7 of us in our party, and we all thought the food and service were first- rate. We will be back!

We had a superb Adult Pizza-making party to celebrate a birthday. Prosecco thrown in too. It was good fun and our host did a brilliant job in entertaining us as well as showing us how to stretch the dough and throw the pizza! We'll be back 😄

We just had a lovely meal here to use a voucher that we got as a gift. It's the first time we've been for a while and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The waiter was very friendly, fun and accommodating and we really enjoyed the food and sitting outside in the garden. We will definitely come back.

Not sure why there are such weirdly bad reviews on here - we just had a great meal with efficient, friendly, prompt service and everything up to the very decent standard you’d expect from a pizza express. We parked at Waitrose which is very close, by the way - you get two free hours.

Really disapointing, ordered a takeaway and it was all cold, not even lukewarm. Eaten in before and was nice, previous takeaway was great, this was dreadful, so many other places to eat out or get a takeaway a waste of a meal and £40. We eat out a lot ad wont be coming back here. Edit in response to managers comment: Thank you, I did revert to Deliveroo and have receved a refund. Theres a lesson here isn't there...come in to the restaurant for great service and food that will always be hot and fresh! Will be back to dine in or collect my own takeaway, thank you for your response, from a team that cares! See you soon!!

Had a fabulous meal. It's been a long time since I have eaten 3 courses and enjoyed everything. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Really disappointed. The first time we ordered (takeaway) - the order arrived incomplete. Giving the benefit of the doubt on another/this occasion, we ordered a second time, and food arrived ice cold. So cold and dry, it felt like an abandoned order that was packaged up for us. Will not order from them again. Avoid!

It's not pet-friendly. Don't display anything about it. Never come again

Every time I come to Pizza Express Abingdon I have the best time. Aga, Honor, and Adam always take the best care of me - as do the rest of the team when they’re not in. It’s my favourite spot to visit when I come to Abingdon because I know it’ll not only give me that classic pizza express feeling, but be even better than other Pizza Express’ in the country!

This is a very nice place to enjoy your pizza with family or friends. Prices are decent approximately 30 euros per person and the service really good. I can recommend the place.

Better eat in. If you plan to have delivery, be ready for cold soggy pizzas. It may not be their fault, stop using UBER who seems to have driver issues. Take over 1 hr to wait for stone cold pizzas.

I don't often leave reviews but this visit to Pizza Express was particularly amazing. The Pollo Pesto pasta dish was the best I've had in many a year! It was also very refreshing to see the manager always present and just as interested in the customers and she was in the staff. 10/10!! Will be recommending to family and friends!

I will not say this is one of the best pizza express outlets I have been to because I previously had bad experiences here but this time it was a completely different one. I had given this place a 3 star a couple of years back but this time I want to rate it a full 5 star because of the exceptional service by Mitop - very welcoming, constantly being looked after, it was almost closing time but he didn't at anytime make us feel rushed. He even gave my son a few treats to take home - this was such a nice gesture from him. Thank you Mitop for the lovely service.

Where do you start with this? We booked a table of 11 for my daughter’s 16th birthday celebration with our family. The ‘Manager’ was diabolical. Right from the off she gestured to our table and carried on serving. We sat down and 20 minutes later were having to ask a waiter to serve us for drinks. We had to re ask the waiter to serve us to place our orders as we had been completely ignored. When the starters did start to arrive it was in dribs and drabs but, and this is where you have to start to laugh - the three portions of dough ball doppio came out looking like peanuts. When we asked what had happened to them, the waiter advised that some of them hadn’t risen properly. Not sure how you can serve them up knowing they were unacceptable but nevertheless there they were and so we sent them back to the kitchen. We then waited another 20 minutes for them to reappear - still without the two youngest members of the family’s starters - again, dough balls. We asked to speak to the manager at this point. The waiter went away and came back to advise she was in the kitchen and would be out in 5 minutes. Should a manager be in the kitchen? Perhaps - to sort out the kitchen issues but when she didn’t appear after a further 10 minutes, I went to the kitchen entrance and she was in there preparing the food herself. When I caught her attention and asked her to come out to speak with me, she told me to give her five minutes. It was at that point I said no, enough was enough and asked her to come out immediately to discuss the service. She slammed her way out, stomped across to me and asked me what was the problem - knowing full well. I explained to her that she had effectively ruined our family celebration for my daughter by making us wait (at that point) for over an hour for sub standard service and food to which she asked me what she wanted her to do about it (!) You’re the manager. If you don’t know what to do about it then I don’t know what else to say to you. So the answer was nothing. We told her we were leaving. She then said ‘so you don’t want me to carry on with your mains, then’ No, lady. We don’t. All I can say is thank God for Dominos delivery. Well done Pizza Express Abingdon. We had dough balls and great pizzas. Very helpful and friendly waiter who helped me use the loyalty app which saved us money! A good meal and great atmosphere. Excellent service

The front of house experience was truly like nothing I've ever seen before. It was spectacular. The service was immaculate with friendly staff and the pizza was the single best I've ever eaten.

Both front of house staff were great, they were attentive, prompt, friendly and really helpful; they even sang happy birthday for my friend's son.

Good as always. Consistent quality pizza and quick and efficient service. You can join the loyalty club with the app and get a free side/dough balls. There’s lots of indoor seating and a beer garden seating available out back in the summer.

We had a lovely time tonight, our waiter Jacob was attentive and knowledgable, and couldn’t do enough to help. Food was amazing as always, to the point we ended up staying for three courses. 😃 5 Stars all round for the team. Will definitely be back again soon.

Pizza was ok and came quick. Was a busy Saturday at the start of half term. The staff were panicked and short staffed. Their lack of efficiency and experience showed. No manager in sight and people were leaving in frustration. If you can’t handle the amount of tables. Stop sitting people down. Love pizza express but this is one to improve.

Staff seemed friendly, food was fast, the app makes it easy with paying and getting discounts etc. but the pizzas were overcooked and burnt on the edges and the dough balls were a little overcooked too. The halloumi was a little greasy too.

Warm, buzzing atmosphere, busy but friendly staff and good menu. The App promotions are very good and once you have negotiated your way around how it works, it is well worth having.

I came into pizza express on Monday evening for some food and I was served by a lovely lady called deny she was the mango and she was so polite and helpful and the atmosphere was amazing and the food was fantastic

We've mostly had good service but on one occasion our food was almost thrown at us, on our table and the same when we asked for the bill. The young guy that took our order was excellent and it was his first shift. The older (Eastern European lady) that served us was clearly very moody and did not say anything when she banged our food down on the table, nor when she brought our bill. When we highlighted this to the manager, the woman in question intervened and started arguing with us. We asked for the service charge to be removed after this and left. We use Pizza Express on a regular basis and we take our dog with us, into the garden which we access through the rear gate and not through the restaurant, as per their policy. We have never been refused service before and other dog owners use the garden too. On our last visit, I entered through the gate to the garden and waited for my partner to arrive. She came through the restaurant and said we were outside. At this point, she was told that we couldnt bring our dog into the garden and the restaurant policy was that they only accepted aid dogs. Prior to my partner arriving , two women staff members saw me in the garden and started chatting. I thought one of them may come out and take my order but they just turned away! This was clearly based on what had happened in our previous visit. We have used Pizza Express for years, both socially, for work meetings/lunches and parties. It's a shame that because we complained about one member of staff that we received this type of treatment that was clearly personal and against the dog policy they have. Your policy states that it is Assitance Dogs only inside your restaurant but Dogs are allowed in outside areas as long as they don't have to go through the restaurant to get to the outside area. The most awesome waiters and managers ♥️ Leon was especially welcoming and made our experience there the best it could be. The pizza was better than we imagined with the fluffiest dough there is and with wide variety of toppings to choose from. Loved every second there and 10/10 would recommend.
