Freezing cold, Wrong Pizza. Only pepperoni, missing the ‘hottest’

I placed my order at 5.48pm. Half an hour later it was finally being prepared. I tried to cancel at 6.10pm on the website but was told I couldn't as the food was already being prepared. This is not true if the information on the website is correct.

Good luck ordering from here, worst pizza express experience I've had. We went before a show on a Thursday with 90 minutes before, took 15 minutes to be seated as no staff were in sight. after finally getting seated, ordering and waiting another 45 minutes with no food in sight or any of the other tables around us getting their orders either - and having to repeatedly ask for water and other drinks to be bought - we joined the many others around us in cancelling our orders , that were not yet even in progress in the kitchen, and leaving. The staff were barely present to speak to and had to be chased just to settle our bill repeatedly. after speaking with neighbouring tables it transpires that people there an hour before us had still not received their food either. For a chain opposite a major theatre it was a shocking experience and I will not be returning to a pizza express in a long time. For context, it was maybe half full when I placed our order.

Do not order from here if you have allergies or dietary preferences. Ordered a vegan and gluten free pizza- items came incorrectly labelled and the gf pizza was not gluten free. Won’t be eating here again.

Ordered a pizza for my gluten free mother. It arrived, it was not gluten free. You can imagine the consequences… Separate issue: Delivery driver was also trying to hit on her?!? Deserved 1*

We had issues with our first order and decided give another chance. We ordered 2 pizzas using Uber Eats but received 1 of them different than what we ordered, both were cold and undercooked. Requested refund from Uber Eats but got message "refund is not available for this order" message. Very disappointed.

As a Catholic I came in looking for dough that had been blessed by a priest. To my surprise my request was answered. The pizza was delicious with a topping of Christ. Amen

I’m amazed by how bad this place is. We chose some spritz cocktail thing which tasted like just lemonade. They took ages to come. My friend ordered a pizza and I ordered a garlic bread with moz. That came first. Before the drinks. And before the cutlery, which I had to ask for. The server then handed me a bundle of cutlery. You don’t even train your servers to set a table. Anyway, my friend’s pizza came long after I’d finished. Common sense would have dictated that we wanted both dishes together. It’s just appalling how badly your management train your servers. They were *dreadful*, and it’s not their fault.

Always good however, the pizza could have been warmer.

The driver was at the restaurant and the time kept changing even though it was saying that they were preparing the food. When it finally came it was cold and missing an item over £9 I tried to call the place a few times but no answer. Want my refund

I went there to try mac & cheese — WOW it made my day! I was there with my boyfriend Pedro and he loved it as well. We also had Figi Formagi pizza and we absolutely loved it! Would come back again for sure!

Very beautiful decor and great table service. The food was delicious, and the corner seating areas are great for anyone wanting a peaceful dining experience with dim lights and less music. It's definitely a winner with my son. They accept tesco vouchers, and as normal policy, it covers all the food, excluding drinks.

On my first visit to this restaurant, the food was nice; however, the glass on my table had a large pink lipstick mark and was dirty. Hygiene is crucial in restaurants, so I highly recommend that staff check the glasses thoroughly before serving them to customers.

This time was fast and the food was hot which is exactly what I expect from this restaurant! The driver was very pleasant.

A regular user of pizza express, but this location ruined my experience completely. As a chain I'm very surprised that this is the case. There was only one other table in when I visited with my family us in total was 5. The only pasta available for all pasta dishes was penne, the calabrese pizza which is usually my husband favourite in every location. He was very disappointed the nduja and sausages were inedible. Customer Service was terrible when complained was told that how it is. With an empty restaurant like I said just my family and 1 other table I still had to get up and look for the serving staff.

Was late and gone, drink was warm

I felt seen. Upon entering, I was greeted by the manager yesterday. I wanted somewhere in a corner. He kindly assisted and served me himself. Such a gentleman. Really needed a day out. The ginger and lime drink was so good. The staff were friendly. The 3 star is souly for the service. Of course, in my opinion the pizza is great. The missing stars are unfortunately for the loud groups X2 of children who came in excited about who knows what. Don't get it twisted I love the little ones, but I was in a sombre mood.

Driver arrives 35 minutes after order pickup. I can see him heading in the opposite direction after picking up the food. When he arrives his bag is open. Pizza is completely cold.

Absolute delight. We’ve been to many different Pizza Express restaurants over the years but the one on Mare street, just opposite the Hackney Empire - is one of the best. Attentive service (thanks to our lovely waiter Richard!), delicious food accompanied by excellent wine - what a wonderful way to round off an evening at the theatre. 😊

We had great time last night. The restaurant was very busy, but we got our food and it was amazing. Very attentive staff and great food.

The wings & garlic bread was lovely however the pesto pasta had far too much sauce, it was like the pasta was drowning in it. Couldn’t finish it unfortunately.

I had an (adult) make your own pizza party here for my birthday and it was such a fun evening! The staff were so accommodating and made sure everyone had a brilliant time. I could not recommend highly enough!

Ordered deliveroo delivery from here, pizza turned up freezing cold and they seem to have added uncooked green peppers to pizza

Just had dinner here on Sunday evening. On paying by credit card we were asked by the machine if we wanted to leave a tip. Which I clicked yes to do so. The server told us that he wouldn't receive the tip if paid by credit card. Therefore we left a cash tip. Our understanding is that any tip left by credit card goes to the tronc to be distributed to all staff. Is this not the case with Pizza Express?

Pizza was quite average. Prices were ok. Employees were friendly. Toilets were super dirty.

Slow service, had to ask for menus twice, forgot about my food, added cheese before asking if anyone was allergic??? Average food

Extremely bad service. Probably not the fault of the staff on duty, more likely a case of bad management/understaffing despite what must be a very regular outpouring of diners following the theatre performance opposite. Our ‘vegan’ starter was loaded with goats cheese, my father’s starter had to be requested 3 times, and we waited 40 minutes for 2 small kids deserts (when it eventually came my daughter, who has never rejected a desert in her life, partially ate it then promptly threw up, saying it tasted weird). The people next to us almost walked out after requesting the bill repeatedly. None of us will come here again.

Pizza Express is Pizza Express is Pizza Express usually…apart from this Mare Street location where I’ve been three times this year, before performances at the Hackney Empire. Dined here this week and it was busy but not super busy, and our order was taken fairly speedily. But after about 20 minutes when people who had entered after us were being served before us, it dawned that there was a problem with our order. The restaurant manager, a woman who I think was from Eastern Europe, came by and I politely chased the order and was met with some side eye but no actual words. It was clear that the order hadn’t been put in, but after another 15 minutes some of it started to arrive. my pizza had obviously been sitting out and was barely lukewarm with the cheese on top congealed. When I asked for it to be made right they just put it back in the oven and when it came back it was just a greasy, charred mess. You pretty much know what you’re getting from Pizza Express, but this was just a disaster. We had to ask two times more for some of the sides we ordered. During this time a couple at the table next to us just got up and left after they were pretty much ignored. The manageress clearly didn’t care about any of this.

Problems with the service.. food was not hot and difficult to get attention of staff .. when my coffee arrived cold we had to take it back to the kitchen ourselves where five members of staff were stood chatting. The dirty dishes piled up around them. Come on guys…

I don’t believe any of the 5 star reviews. The restaurant was empty apart from one other table yet it took 37 minutes for our two pizzas to arrive. Both were just about warm. Plenty of staff on duty, most on their phones. Bathrooms were dirty and out of soap.

Have not eaten it yet, ordered the food at 7:30 to eat at 8. So it was 2 hours late!!

My doughballs never came with the delivery, but I ordered and paid.

Something going wrong for food deliveries head office you need to come here and sort out management it’s a shambles I’m still waiting 2 hours later for my £33 order it’s an absolute joke Manager basically said he doesn’t care 😫

So disappointed at the food. We visited for our team Xmas meal - a booking for 15. The food was pretty bland across the board - a prawn starter with virtually no prawns in it, no vegan pepperoni for the pizza my husband ordered, 2 x pollo pasta dishes SWIMMING in oil and 2 aubergine bakes that came out burnt round the edges. The latter 2 were sent back and alternative dishes made up which was appreciated, but by the time they were served, everyone else had finished eating!

Great to have a restaurant serving all day and enjoy some cozy time in the afternoon. In between 2 shopping sessions, we enjoyed the lovely staff, the quiet atmosphere and stayed way longer than we anticipated! The Leggera pizza are really good and filling.

Hi, I’ve never come in but I’m very concerned that you won’t be able to stay open in Hackney. You seem empty most of the time. Please offer some deals or lunchtime offers or us poor Hackney types will keep going to spoons next door. Thanks and good luck.

Absolutely fantastic service from the staff at pizza express. My friend and I went there on Friday night and as soon as we walked through the door, we were immediately greeted with a warm smile and welcome from the manager. We were served by Ethan who remained attentive, responsive, and friendly throughout the evening. Food was excellent, and ambience was just right. Definitely not the last of our visit. Big thanks to all staff!

They got my order wrong. Brough me the the pizza without the extras I requested. When I told them the missed my extras they took the pizza on the counter , added the extras on a already cooked pizza and tried to serve me it with raw anchovies and on top. I could have gotten seriously sick if I didn’t stop cancel the orders. The staff is rude and completely incompetent.

Wasn't acknowledged when we arrived and was stood waiting for someone to seat us. Took forever for someone to take our drinks order and once again for our main course. I had to catch the servers attention after our table had been cleared to order dessert. One dessert arrived and when the other one didn't arrive, we had to go to the kitchen and ask where our coffee and brownie was, it came luke warm. Then when we wanted to leave, again we had to go to the kitchen to get someone to bring us our bill. 1 & 3/4 hours for pizza and desserts! On a Sunday evening so can't even say that they were bsy

Great location for before a show at Hackney Empire. Pizza was fine, I was given a gluten free one instead of a normal base but tasted ok (didn't return it as limited time before we had to leave). Waiters were lovely. Need to upgrade their payment system so you can add tips to card payments though.

Walking by Mare street we decided to stop at Pizza Express. The athmosphere, the service delivered and the pizza were very good! We ordered two pizzas: a chicken BBQ and a Funghi. Pizza express is very a upmarket restaurant than a fast food. The staff was friendly and not overbearing.

Very nice treat from staff, they were very gentle abd the pizzas were really good. I ate mine all by myself. The place wasn't so full so the pizzas came fast and warm. One of the best pizzas I have ever eatten. They even asked if I'd rather the pizza thin and large or thick and small. Definitely coming back.
