Lardo in Hackney

I had the best lamb lasagne of my life here yesterday evening. Probably the best pasta dish I've ever eaten. Nearly ordered it again straight away. Been dreaming about it since. Magical. Lovely pomegranate margarita cocktail too. Can't wait to go back! Grazie!

Love this place, we just keep coming back. Awesome food, lovely service and great location. We even had our post wedding meal here in the room down the side. So lush!

One of my favorite eating experiences in London. The food was exceptional, and the service was warm and attentive. The intimate yet lively atmosphere definitely makes this a good date night spot Or the perfect pre-show dinner for someone going to the Hackney Empire.

We loved our experience at Lardo! The workers’ lunch is a bargain. The antipasti were SO good. Nailed the pizza and pasta dishes as well. Ended with a delicious tiramisu. I’m a tough critic and have lived in Italy — was thrilled with the meal here.

If there were more stars to give, Lardo would get them. Service is genuine and warm. FOOD is exactly what you’d hope from an Italian dinner - fresh, hot and well balanced.

This place really was poor. A decent environment but an uninspiring menu which was genuinely badly delivered. Not going back. Shame, used to like it here years back.

one of my fave restaurants in east london, great food, excellent price and service is immaculate. Isaac was looking after my table everytime i visited he made sure i was happy with my order and super enthusiastic and always recommended the best options from the menu. will be coming back again soon xx

Really upset at how I was treated by rude staff here especially male head waiter…. Seemed to be whispering about me and my boyfriend and when we were seated was super dismissive and rude and really bad attitude, asked what wine would go well with what I was ordering and he said the most ridiculously expensive one.. and when I ordered cheaper one rolled his eyes and sighed??? Really weird energy, and food is mid too, and expensive for what it is, do better and maybe make affordable food and experiences and don’t cater gentrifying Hackney more with ur stupid prices

Lovely quality food, wine and atmosphere, friendly and great service

Visit 1: I was nearly poisoned when I was given a normal pizza after ordering gluten free (good job I double checked). The waiter was suitably apologetic but then stroppy when I asked for something off the bill. He conceded to removing the £2 additional I had to pay for a gluten free base. Visit 2: they got in touch after I posted the visit1 review to apologise and offer compensation. I returned and ordered a gluten free pizza with Lardo (their namesake!) and it came without Lardo… I mentioned this, they told me I was mistaken but that they would bring me extra. They the. brought me a pot of very oily bacon lardons which i think had been deep fried??? I said this wasn’t Lardo and they insisted it was. I tell you, that is not lardo. Visit3: dived in for a pizza around a year later and this time they actually poisoned me by mistaking my gluten free order for another table’s who ordered the same pizza (but with gluten). It’s a nice atmosphere and the cocktails are nice but stay away from this place if you have any type of allergy.

Love the ambiance of this restaurant. Just before Christmas, I visited here with my daughter, who lives nearby and wishing that you had a restaurant in Brighton, too. :) We had a warm welcome and the service did not falter from there on in. We had aubergine polpette to start, then followed by the slow cooked beef shin Ragu which I cannot forget as it was so deep and rich, it was first class. The Tiramisu to finish, was off the scale gorgeous and not forgetting the superb Contrade Bellusa Nero d'Avola Sicilia organic wine. We cannot wait to come back! Bellissimo!

What a perfect evening!! The food was insanely delicious, the service impeccable and the vibe was just so cool and buzzing. The price was also very good! My new favourite restaurant in the area. Hundred percent recommend!

So, we had our wedding dinner here about a month ago, for about 25 people. As special days go, they made it superbly memorable for us. Our friends still talk about how amazing the food, its quantity, the wines and hospitality was that evening. I could probably write an essay here but I'd simply like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Michalis and Farisha for the perfect hospitality they showed us. We couldn't have found a better venue for our special day. Right from the communication, to the help we got in finalising the menu, wine pairings, the wines themselves, accommodating dietary requirements, we were impressed. Even the non-alcoholic concotion the brewed for us freshly on the day for the non-drinkers was a hit. On the day itself, there was so much food, there was hardly any space on the tables!! It was so fresh and delicious, the guests took home takeaway boxes. I will avoid giving any specific recommendations, just go and order anything from the menu, you won't be disappointed. The staff are courteous and will help you decide and if you catch either of the owners there, then they will go out of their way to make your meal special. A review a month late, but well deserved. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon.

The pizza was ok at best but the pasta was terrible. For the price the service was ok and the atmosphere was good but the food was a big let down.

The pumpkin pizza was one of the best things I've ever eaten and I highly recommend it. I got the gluten free crust and it was so good I couldn't even tell it was gf. The servers were kind and attentive and went above and beyond to give us a wonderful dining experience.

Now, this may be somewhat my fault. I'm more of a traditional Margherita gal. But we thought the vegetarian pizzas looked lovely so we took the risk. I'm not saying it was bad, but it wasn't something I'd reorder again. The pumpkin pizza had a baby food like pumpkin puree topped with pine nuts and kale. The puree wasn't seasoned. Now that may be because you can add goats cheese, which would make it salty. But it feels like a bit of an oversight. The mushroom and taleggio one also lacked seasoning. (And when we asked for salt, the waiter looked upset. Season your fooooood!) One slice is ok, but that cheese is full on and you need something acidic to cut through that like tomato sauce? Or a bottle of pepto bismol. White wine was room temperature. The feel of the place is lovely, though. I might go back to try the pasta. Maybe that's where it's at?

The best gluten-free pizza I’ve ever had. We went here very last-minute and managed to get seats at the low bar. I’d read a Google review that rated the GF pizzas very highly, and they were right! The GF dough was handmade. It was fluffy and crispy, but not tough like a lot of shop-bought substitute bases that restaurants often keep in stock. I had a margarita that came with fresh basil and very generous amounts of pecorino cheese, and ordered the extra half burrata as well. It was sublime. My wife had the pumpkin, crispy kale and jalapeño pizza, which they said was incredible. Probably not ok for coeliacs as the pizza prep surfaces are no different for the GF base and the same oven is used, but if you’re intolerant or prefer to avoid gluten you’ll be fine.

Lovely little spot! Came here for lunch, the pizza was great and the tiramisu is honestly the best I've ever had. Our server was lovely and the worker's lunch is a good price. Would definitely recommend.

We came to LARDO for my boyfriend's birthday and boy did it deliver. Our waiter, Isaac, was incredibly accommodating and made us feel so special, we even got a surprise tiramisu at the end. The atmosphere was brilliant, the food even better. Could not recommend this place more!!!

My London friend took us to this hidden gem. Don’t let the raw industrial interior make you expect less than great food and drinks. We had lunch and were surprised by the great value of the workers menu. Great wine list for true Italian wine lovers, with traditional wineries and great modern produce from (Organic/Demeter) winemakers, served by the glass and bottle. Burrata and olive oil were a promising fresh and tasty start. Breaded sardine was nicely cooked and brought a taste explosion with the accompanying salad of celeriac, orange, pine nuts and raisins. A delight to see the chef working in his kitchen, calm yet constantly communicating and checking the tables and guests. Service was really friendly but came across a bit inexperienced as we had to wait 20 minutes to order dessert and our table wasn’t cleared until we asked for it. This wouldn’t keep me from returning and recommending this great restaurant though! Grazie!

One of the best Italian restaurants in London! Quality seasonal produce and a varied, surprising menu. The staff are great and the atmosphere is very pleasant.

Came here for lunch. The lunch menu is amazing for the price. £17 for 2 courses and £21 for 3 courses. Food was flavourful. Service was excellent. We left very full and satisfied.

Loved it here. We arrived about 30 minutes late due to traffic issues on the M25. Did try to call ahead but the phone went to a full voicemail box. Despite this, the staff were great when we arrived and were able to accommodate us. Food was delivered quickly, but was hot and fresh, and (most importantly) really tasty. I loved the atmosphere and ambience.

So this is my sister’s favourite place to dine in London and it exceeded all expectations! Firstly the wait staff were so friendly even though it was so busy. we were greeted by a lovely woman. I explained that I’m gluten and dairy free and she suggested me to talk to the head chef. A treatment I’ve never been exposed to even though I dine out a lot. He even suggested to cook me a dish that’s not on the menu even though it was so busy. I could not believe it. Not only was the service and the entire restaurant staff so accomodating and friendly, the food were exceptional. My sister and her boyfriend enjoyed the mushroom dish in particular. They said that was star of the night but we couldn’t fault anything. The atmosphere and decor were also fantastic. I highly recommend this place for tourists and locals. 10/10 experience that I share to my friends back in Australia visiting London.

Dined here Saturday night, excellent service but food is a big no-no! Thumbs down for pizza too, unfortunately (small size pizza and couldn't even finish it because of the hard-to-digest dough! ). This place lack of authenticity and is not very well looked after.

Amazing food but some of the worst service we’ve ever experienced unfortunately. Drinks dropped all over my lap without any apology - such a shame because it has great food but it’s missing attentive / friendly staff.

Lardo was one of my favourite restaurants as I am gluten free and there used to be loads of options! I was sad to leave today after not being able to order, because they no longer do gluten free food apart from pizzas! Bring back gluten free starters and that delicious risotto! Unfortunately had to go and find another restaurant.

Amazing atmosphere! Nice terrace gives you calm evening vibes with music and the wonderful staff to bring some nice food and drinks :) Nearby stations and bars for further drinks :)

One of my favourite places in Hackney! They have great small plates options, but they're the best at pizzas. Interesting wines and amazing innovative cocktails & spritz list that changes time to time.

I have been going to Lardo for the last 10 years. And this evening, I took my guests there. I have never seen such an unhappy and rude employee there before. We just asked her to clean the table and she straight away cross with us and talks another waiter too. You can guess what happened after that, everything came late at 7 pm we arrived there at 9 pm we still waiting for our pizzas. I went inside and I can see two pizzas waiting there for service. I was waiting for his phone call to finish a few minutes later, she came and asked me: can I help? I said Yes, how long can take to cook pizza my son gets really tired at 9 pm we are waiting for pizza. they are both horrible and so rude. So sad, it doesn't matter how your food was nice. Most important think how was your time there. I will try to pop in soon again and complain about tonight to the manager Because Lardo is always a nice place to go for me and my son. I hope whoever works tonight will not see them there again. I really do not want to see employees like them work there.

A hidden in gem in Hackney, London. This restaurant and cocktail bar is tucked away in a street where you would never think of finding a restaurant. Located about 10 minutes walk from Hackney Central overground, it was a pleasure to visit Lardo. Whether you visit for food or just drinks, it’s a great experience. The restaurant is opened up with the kitchen so you can see the chefs preparing the food as well as watching the pizzas being cooked in the specially designed oven. The food was truly excellent and of Michelin standard. They do pizza which is good if you are hungry but the smaller dishes are expensive but well worth it for the flavour and creativity. The menu does change on a monthly basis. Ambience is excellent and the staff work brilliantly as a team. A great place hidden away in Hackney and highly recommended!

Awful service, decent food. Waited almost half an hour to be seated despite having a booking. Ignored when we sat down so we had to flag someone down for drinks which took another 30 min to arrive. Ignored several times - we kept having to go look for server, who kept saying that she "couldn't wait to go home". By the time we got mains we just wanted to get out there - had no faith that we would get drinks or dessert so didn't want to waste out time. Unpleasant experience made worse by another server blaming "new management" and "the kitchen". If you look back at reviews, this inconsistent and bad service goes back months and months. I wouldn't come back here again.

Excellent pizzas and the French toast is excellent as well. Staff is extremely helpful and super welcoming. Very kids friendly place. Good industrial atmosphere.

The food here is one of the best spots in east london. A friend suggested it and it surpassed all expectations. You can see the chefs cooking right in the centre with such care. Even though it was quite busy the service felt quite personable from the chefs and front of house. Will recommend!

Me and my girl went for a dinner last night, one of the best date night ever, we had a chefs table right next to the kitchen, personally the chef(Richard) served us, he explained the whole menu and the food, I never had a such a experience like this before it was so cool. Thank you chef Richard for making our date special.. 10/10 worth every penny..

Managed to get a walk in at 9pm on a Monday. Cool venue. Delicious food made with great, interesting produce (goats cheese on the delica pumpkin!) Really attentive service!

First time at Lardo and WOW. Food 10/10, Cocktails 11/10 (I don’t usually like Aperol as I feel they are always on the top-butter side, but had the best Aperol of my life here) and service 12/10 - attentive, constantly topping us up, super warm and made us feel right at home. Loved it and will be back! Extra points for new pizza oven which is not only beautiful piece in the dining space but makes a light and crispy finish on the pizzas (my fave)

Great food, but the worst service I’ve ever received. This was my 3rd visit, as I think their food is really good. However, the service today was the worst I have ever experienced. It took them 30 mins after arriving to even take our drinks order. When our pizza was served we were asked if we wanted chilli oil, to which we happily said yes. It never came and we were halfway through our pizza already, so I asked for it again and we eventually received it when we were pretty much finished with our food. Also don’t even think about having more than the initial drink, because its pretty much impossible to receive anything after the initial order has been placed. When paying I was told paying by cash was fine. However, when I needed change (seen as there was already a 12.5% service charge included, which technically they didn’t even deserve), I had to wait 5 mins for this and it was just chucked on the table without a thank you or goodbye. Not sure if everyone’s just had a bad day because of the unbearable heat, but I was extremely disappointed and will definitely not return.

This place is terrible. Rude staff that are too cool for school. Poor food. Avoid. (Was a few months ago, however), hopefully improved now…

After hearing great things, we were excited to try Lardo. Unfortunately the food was okay but nothing special but it was the service that let the experience down. You were pushed to get any sort of pleasantry - overall an unwelcoming environment with average food.

I left the one star review below in December 2021. Since then, Kurt and the team have been in touch and looked after us (including Alba 🐶) on our next visit. We sat in the salon, which is the dog-friendly area, and the super attentive staff took excellent care of us over a leisurely and delicious dinner. Very happy to highly recommend once again. Used to love this place, my favourite local. So I was sorely disappointed today when I arrived with my dog to be told we could only sit outside due to the open kitchen. I understand this as a policy. However, I had stated I was bringing the dog on my booking request and there was no reply to explain sitting outside was the only option available. I explained this in person to the staff - they didn’t seem that bothered. Very disappointing.

The bresaola pizza was delicious, staff very friendly and it’s a cool environment! The carbonara pizza was too heavy and tasted mainly like pancetta and nothing else. Loved the sparkling orange wine!

This local East London place has mainly pizza on its menu. A booking is strongly recommended however they do everything they can to give you a table as well. (you may need to wait long so book in advance) I really wanted to try cheesecake but they were out on a Friday night so that was a shame. The staff were kind and this small place was buzzing with customers. We ordered starters and pizza and had no complains about them. All were tasty.

Attentive service, the food was very tasteful and the wine very delicious. I was surprised to see no frites with the steak but the steak and veg were so tasteful it did not matter - I saved room for dessert. The cheesecake has to be hands down the best cheesecake I have ever tasted. Hats off to a new style of dining and I would love to come back to try the pizza :-) Thanks for a great experience

A fantastic selection available on the single sheet menu (particularly as a vegetarian), in addition to the incredible array of fresh dishes they have as their seasonal specials. Me and my friend opted for the daily pasta dishes as our main, and the orrecchiette I chose was amazing. Brought back memories of my time in Puglia, and the walnut pesto I had was some of the finest I can remember. The desserts was also incredible, particularly the cheesecake. Our waiter was also incredibly friendly and helpful. Would visit this place daily if I could!

Great food - highly recommend the courgette pizza! If you’re outside, definitely ask to sit in the outdoor tent. It is super windy outside the tent and we were absolutely freezing.

Horrible, horrible experiencia. Tuve que hacer cola durante 15 minutos para entrar (a pesar de que habíamos reservado). Una vez allí no pudimos ver la pasta en el menú, así que le preguntamos al camarero. Nos dijo que había dos platos, uno de salchicha y otro de rape. Algunos de nuestros amigos son vegetarianos y preguntaron qué platos de pasta no tenían carne. Sorprendentemente, el camarero dijo: "Tenemos muchas verduras en la cocina, vamos a hacer algo con eso". ¡Qué tipo de lugar no sabe lo que hay en un plato antes de prepararlo! ?El camarero trajo la comida unos 30 minutos más tarde, y no había rape en la pasta, solo parecía pasta poco cocida, una lata de tomates picados y mejillones. Nunca antes había tenido una comida tan mala en un restaurante. Para agregar más insulto, ¡el camarero nos trajo una pizza de salchicha quemada en lugar de pasta! ! Desafortunadamente, esta no es una crítica muy positiva sobre este pequeño restaurante, pero debido al manejo de la situación por parte del personal, creo que es importante compartir esto.Hubo una cantidad increíble de tiempo entre los entrantes y el plato principal, al menos 45 minutos, y fue difícil llamar la atención del personal, pero una vez que lo hicimos, el camarero se disculpó mucho ya que dijo que fue su error no poner la orden a través. Sin embargo, dijimos que estaba bien, cuando llegaron los platos principales, estaban muy poco hechos. Hey! Clean floor is great. Excellent restaurant. Had great lemon sole with capers. And great home made pizza. Lots of interesting dishes such as Anancini with squid ink and star anise. A little pricey but you totally get what you pay for. Really good knowlable waiters and a lovely atmosphere too.

Abbreviated review below. Fleshed out review :Let me begin by saying that I have visited this establishment 4 times in the past 12 months. The title of the review is ‘are you a gambler’ because if I had to describe this place in a single word it would be ‘INCONSISTENT’. On each occasion I’ve ordered the margarita and other dishes on top so I have a direct basis of comparison for my experiences which have ranged from mesmeric to violating. On the back of my most recent visit (violation) I decided to leave this review to warn people off because the cuisine was shambolic. 2 pizzas over cooked to the point that I think they may actually look more at home at the base of an outdoor barbecue than on a plate. My good experiences have become redundant as, in my humble opinion, these pizzas should not have left the kitchen. It’s £9 (£10.20 incl service charge) for a marg which is on the expensive side for London. Now I’m fine with that if you get what you pay for, I can’t fault the service or the vibe of the place, but when a pizza that is supposed to be moist, bouncy and light arrives with the texture of a frisbee I have a problem. The restaurant was not packed so there was no excuse that the kitchen was under any pressure at all to churn out dishes QuickTime and even if it was busy I reiterate ‘these should not have left the kitchen’. Huge disappointment as my first visit a year ago was met with juicy, flavourful tomato base - milky mozzarella with just the right level of salt - a base matured and charred to near perfection - and finished with zesty basil leaves that married tied the whole pie in a bow. The pizza was a blessing and I recommended it to everyone I spoke to. So you make the choice whether or not to go, but do so knowing that you are rolling the dice. Are you a gambler??SHORT REVIEW-:Never know what you’re getting here, could be burnt to a crisp and dry or juicy and delicious, and not cheap. At its best this is a great place for a date, friends, colleagues or family. At its worst you may look a right tit (May wish you’d left’it) in front of company if they botch the dough. Lady with the short hair was terribly rude, unfortunate as I had an amazing experience last year for my mum's birthday. Not only was she abrupt when we entered, but she bad mouthed us leaving the building for no reason, back chatting and commenting on our appearance! Sadly, I will not be going again. Terrible service.

Great Italian place in Hackney. Surprised by the amount of people we found on a Tuesday at 8PM. All tables booked so we had to eat at the bar. Great food and service. Definitely we are going back for more.

We arrived for an early supper before the opera at nearby Hackney Empire to find the place abuzz with families and oldie couples like us. The food was super, delicious fresh fish for my husband and proper wood fired wild mushroom pizza for calorie conscious me. The wine list is interesting too. Decor is unpretentious and prices reasonable. Allow plenty of time as waiting staff are rushed off their feet. Deservedly popular.

Buen lugar para el brunch: el lugar tiene ambiente, la pizza es sabrosa y buenos vinos naturales. . .Pero: cuando llegó el momento de pagar la factura, la camarera quería saber por qué no pagué la propina FULL supuestamente discrecional. ¡Londres pronto se volverá como los Estados Unidos, con servidores persiguiéndote por la calle porque no están contentos con la propina!

Although we were quite late upon arrival, we have been welcomed and immediately got seated, to be said I have called them to inform we were running late due to traffic; I want to highlight the service we received, because we got our waiter ready for orders and we got good starters, loved the burrata and polenta chips, my seabass was flaking away, loved the combination with the chicory salad and the anchioves dressing ( I am sicilian so I definitely loved that combo) and the pasta was great, I am not too sure whether it was hand-streached or not, but it was just spot on. Nice cheesecake!.

A very busy restaurant which we had pre booked so as soon as we arrived we were seated and given menus. The staff are offbeat friendly and efficient, our drinks arrived within 5 mins of ordering and the pizzas about 20 mins later. Perfectly cooked and very tasty, although we had one with meat vegetarian and vegan versions were also available. We left satisfied and full up.

Conveniently located within a 5-minute walk from the Hackney Empire, we had a pre-theatre dinner here with the grandchildren. Service was a bit slow but we had allowed plenty of time. The children’s menu was good but we were pleasantly surprised by the offer of gluten-free pizzas. Their wild mushroom pizza came with a duck egg and was probably the most imaginative pizza I’ve had in a long time. All the pizzas were ginormous which few of us could finish. Perhaps we might’ve had room if we hadn’t had the polenta chips?

Great food, chill vibe, friendly service

Swung by after a show at Hackney Empire and it was busy and buzzing but service was prompt and good... delicious bread and burrata to start then fantastic pizzas... definitely pay a visit...top notch service and spotless toilets too!

Lovely place and lovely food - a shame the staff are not just rude but actively aggressive. We spent 300 pounds but I wouldn't go back after the way we were treated.

Out of the way Italian-based restaurant that is worth a visit. If you can, on your first visit, sit at the kitchen counter; as well as watching the theatre of the kitchen, you might just get an extra treat... Great specials and don't miss the amazing burrata.

I had the best dish I have had in a restaurant for a long time - cuttlefish with polenta and seafood broth. And our whole party raved about the food. Delightful atmosphere, friendly and excellent waiters, and very reasonably priced. Extremely highly recommended.

Fuimos aquí antes de nuestra visita al cercano Imperio Hackney. Dejamos en claro desde el principio que estábamos atados al teatro, pero nos quedamos sentados durante bastante tiempo antes de que se tomara nuestro pedido. Uno de los miembros de mi grupo le recordó a un servidor que estábamos reservados para el teatro y la respuesta fue que "todos aquí están", lo que consideró una respuesta bastante brusca e innecesaria. Cuando pedimos que se explicara el menú (varios elementos de los que no estábamos seguros) nos dijeron que se explicaba por sí mismo, aunque cuando se dieron detalles, ¡estaba claro que no se explicaba por sí mismo! La comida en sí era buena y volvería sobre esta base. Parecía haber mucho personal de servicio, pero en ocasiones era difícil llamar su atención por las bebidas.

Great range of Pizzas, fresh pasta, fish and meats. Good wine/drinks list, and super friendly staff. Clipson coffee too, so a great lunch all round!

8 of us went here for a birthday dinner. It was ok. The pizzas were ok the starters average and the sausage pasta had 2 bits of sausage in and was frankly boring. We all had wine/ beer . Unfortunately it is similar to many places of this ilk . At roughly 50 a head it was ridiculously overpriced for what we had, but it’s trendy Hackney so you pay for that. Nice people, but I won’t go back. There are too many other options

Food was very good. Had the rosemary garlic bread pizza and the pepperoni pizza. All delicious and made in their wood fired oven. They seemed a little overstaffed and were preoccupied with other things rather than the small number of customers, so hoping that they step up when it’s busy! But I have been there before when it’s busy and was very difficult to get their attention.

I was there on June, today i repeat the restaurant and i can say that the pizzas are great, the desserts lovely fine. Next visit to London I will come back to Lardo. ;-)

I went there to ask for a take away and they just sent me home. Moreover they did not even pick up the phone. Pizza is not even that great
