Yard in Hackney

The restaurant's six-course tasting menu promised fresh, innovative dishes, and the food mostly delivered. The chef's creativity shone through, and we eagerly anticipated each bite. However, the service was seriously lacking. We waited over an hour for the first course, and after prompting the staff, dishes flew out at a breakneck pace, with servers pushing aside previous courses for new ones. It was a culinary relay race. At one point, we had two wines on the table, as servers forgot we hadn't finished our previous pairing. The dessert wine pairing was a head-scratcher – the sweet dessert and wine just didn't match, and the wine arrived ten minutes after the dessert. The restaurant has potential, but the service needs work. Compared to others in its class, it falls short in overall experience. We left feeling like we'd been on a rollercoaster – highs from the delicious food, but lows from the inconsistent service. If they can improve their service, they could be a contender. For now, it's great food, really disappointing service.

Incredible food. As good as i have had in London. How the flavour from the flames enhance incredible produce is remarkable. Eksdet really needs to be more well known. We had the 9 course tasting menu. Incredible signature oyster dish, the most delicate smoked scallops, the lighter seabass, perfect wagyu steak and the remarkable mushroom souffle. Can't wait to revisit

Fabulous Best taking menu we have had. Knocked Lenclume off our top spot. Matched wines were superb. Yes its expensive but so worth it.

It has been a long time since I have been blown away by a meal. I loved the smokey flavours, the savoury sauces and the sweets at the end. Divine! Will definitely be coming back with friends for more.

Great experience with an exceptional customer service, they take you to the kitchen to witness the natural creativity of food which is a unique touch. The non alcoholic cocktails are insanely delicious.

Unique flavours and every course was very very well prepared. Atmosphere is great. There was some unnecessary confusion several times but overall the service was ok. Heads up that charging the bill to your room results in a 20% discount, which I only discovered by accident. In my case this meant I almost paid £100 more.

Lovely setup and impeccable service. Most of food was amazing (we really enjoyed every dish of the tasting menu), however we found the desserts to unbalance the tasting experience. After the pre-dessert (an amazing pine sorbet), we received a huge portion of chocolate dessert which was followed by more chocolate pralines making the end of the dinner too chocolate heavy an making us almost forget the previous experienced flavours. Having said that, we had a lovely evening and will surely return to try more from the chef 's unique cuisine.

Excellent creatively prepared and presented dishes. We went with the prix fixe dinner and got to watch the chef prepare our first course in the wood stove kitchen.

The food was absolutely exquisite, the setting was beautiful and the staff were fantastic. My only constructive feedback is that having paid £300 per head for the 6 course tasting menu, all six of us left hungry. The portions are miniscule. The starters and mains should be doubled in size.

One of the most exquisite meals I've had the pleasure to enjoy. When your entire meal has been prepared with utmost care and the finest ingredients, and without gas or electricity. Just cooked or smoked over an open fire, pickled or fermented. It has to be experienced.

Been here with a group of 12. Only around 3-4 more tables have been occupied that evening. But it felt that the staff was very busy and the 4-course menu took 4 hours. Dessert was served at 11pm, by starting at 7:30. Don’t know what kept them absence from our table. All in all not a good performance. Food was good.

It was terrific, and I was impressed with every dish. I recommend going for the six-course set menu. I went for the three-course menu, and I regretted it, as everything was so delicious. The duck was the best duck I've ever had. I am looking forward to coming back soon.

Ekstedt at the yard is a hidden gem located in central London. I recently had the pleasure of dining there with my husband, and we were absolutely blown away by the experience. We did the volcanic pairing menu, and it was truly brilliant. The food was creative, and incredibly delicious. The service was also impeccable and the sommelier was very knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere at Nicola Eksted is really warm and makes for a truly special dining experience. I highly recommend it to anyone.

In a city where the selection of restaurants grows bigger every day, it is always a nice surprise to find something unique. The exceptional and friendly staff ensured our evening was spotless. We had the tasting menu, which is always a great choice if you want to experience the best that can come out of the kitchen and the wine selection could not have been paired better! I am definitely telling more people about this!

Wow - this is such a fantastic restaurant; the tasting menu was a fabulous experience. We tried the wine pairings, and had a different menu each. The waiters, sommelier and chefs were so friendly and instructive. We loved the special touches such as having one dish in the kitchen, the detailed explanations on the wine pairings, and being able to see the sourdough inside the ovens. It’s a very special treat!

Delicious food. I especially enjoyed the woodruff cream dessert and the leek course. All made with no electricity or gas, just an open fire. Really attentive, professional service too - and didn't even have to wait around ages for the bill!

A great new addition to the london restaurant scene. Innovative, creative and excellently planned. A real treat and culinary experience. The wine was superbly paired (we had the volcanic printing) and it was and excellent selection which complimented the food brilliantly. The service was also superb with the waiters and most importantly the sommelier and I think restaurant manager, were also attentive and really knew their stuff! Most impressed and will return with friends.

Beautiful experience at Ekstedt. Sensational food driven by the taste of charcoal and fire. The restaurant has an exquisite team of professionals, they introduced us to the most delicious wines we have ever tried.

A very interesting dining experience! The taster menu with the wine pairing was inspired. Each course provided a jolt to the senses and was beautifully presented. The staff were knowledgeable and very attentive and a tour of the open kitchen at the end, made it a memorable evening.

Como el comentario anterior, metimos en un concierto (antes) como nos XOYO sensación de hambre. Lugar estaba lleno, pero el personal es amable y nos dieron una mesa rápidamente. Pedimos pizza de espinacas y alcachofas y fue fabuloso, la masa fresco y muy sabroso. Mi señora tenía pizza de queso de cabra y me encantó. Comida y bill llegó rápidamente, lo cual era genial, ya que estábamos en una prisa. Sin duda volvería.

The penne arrabiatta is awesome here. Probably the best I've ever tasted. The service is very good and the place is conveniently located near Old Street station. It's open late too.

Un salto en carrera un poco tarde antes de un concierto y les preguntamos si nos podían ser servidos con rapidez. Me dijeron que sí, aunque estaban bastante agitada y fiel a su palabra sirve bebidas y una deliciosa pizza muy rápidamente. Luego nos dieron una llamada a decir gig se empezaba una hora más tarde. Así que nos quedamos para el postre y café. La mía era deliciosa, pero mi esposa estaba servido sin la salsa de chocolate lo prometido.

Visité mientras en el área de trabajo, y no habíamos reservado, pero en una noche de verano, el patio al aire libre estaba bastante lleno, pero el interior estaba vacío. Estaba sentado con un menú casi al instante, sin embargo, había una considerable espera antes de que alguien vino a tomar una orden de bebidas, olvídate de mi pedido.

in diesem restaurant bekommt man richtig feine pizzen! es sind keine 0815 pizzen, sprich prosciutto etc., sondern es sind eher spezielle, mit toppings wie chicken, ziegenkäse oder shrimps. sehr leckere kombinationen, dazu ist der pizzaboden richtig dünn und knusprig. und es gibt 2 verschiedene grössen, sehr fein! und empfehlenswert. das einzige was vlt. ein wenig störend war, war die hohe lautstärke im restaurant.

They say some of the best places are things you just walk in to! We were staying at a nearby hotel and just wanted something local when we saw this location. We had a welcoming reception from staff and were really impressed with the building, which we were told was an old fire station. The pizza is brilliant, cooked how a pizza should be cooked and the half yard and yard orders is a great idea...and filling. We had a great evening in here and desert didn't disappoint either. Certainly a place to go if your in the area and if staying at a nearby hotel then well worth the visit for food. If I was in this part of London again I would certainly re visit.

We visited on Saturday night, the restaurant was two thirds full but with the general speed of service you might have thought it was packed the rafters. Every interaction with the staff took longer than necessary. A long wait at the door, a delay on the drinks, an age for the food and getting the bill was just impossible. The food was ok - and perhaps if you visited over a quiet lunch they'd put on a better show, however we won't be returning. Unfortunately, it being located on a busy junction, this place will probably continue to make money from tourists and unsuspecting passers by for a long time yet.

We went to Yard on Saturday night and had an extremely disappointing meal. Firstly, we had booked but were told at the door rudely that they hadn’t seen the booking. We were shown to a table and it took a long time to order. It took almost an hour for the main to come after we had finished our starter. We had to ask twice where our food was and their only excuse was that they were busier than they expected – not a good excuse in a large restaurant on a Saturday night in a busy area. One staff member was nice but one was extremely rude and when bringing plates back to the kitchen from outside was even swearing. They were obviously understaffed and it took them around 30 minutes after we had finished eating to pick up the plates and this was only after we had asked for the bill twice. The food was okay but not great and I could have made a better dish at home. Further, we had “Italian bread” – which was basically white toast which was cold – truly disappointing. Overall a very disappointing meal and a waste of time. I would not go here again.

Das Restaurant ist in einer alten Feuerwehrwache und liegt nahe an der Old Street Station. Vor dem Restaurant befinden sich ein paar Tische auf einer Terasse. Wir waren wohl zu einer Stoßzeit da (kurz vor 21:00). Es dauerte fast eine halbe Stunde bis wir überhaupt Getränke bestellen konnten. Die Servicekräfte machten einen leicht überforderten Eindruck. Die Getränke und das Essen wurden dann aber recht bald serviert. Die Pizza und Nudeln waren sehr lecker und auch der Wein war gut. Die Portionen waren ausreichend.

This restaurant is not posh or modern, but it has the "casual" look, almost like French bistro, serving very tasteful Italian pasta and pizzas. Wine glasses are generous, service is very friendly and helpful, in a good mood. Very good for a casual dinner. Nothing less, nothing more.

My friends and I came to Yard for a dinner and drinks on a Saturday night.We were amazed by their pizzas and appetisers - we tried them all! While my friends were enjoying their pizzas, I had the best calamari and bread with chorizo ever! By the way, our service - the Italian fella, was superb, he made our evening even more enjoyable!Thank you guys, we'll definitely come back!

Pizza är nog deras specialitet men jag tog pasta ändå. Pasta med kyckling. Den var god! fast inte spektakulär. Gick fort att få maten och hade en spexig utan att vara jobbig servitör. Sambon tog pizza och sa den var mycket god. Ger det 3,7 i betyg.

Ventured into Shoreditch upon the recommendation of a local who claimed it was home to some of the best restaurants and nightlife in London....and Yard did not disappoint! All the food we ordered was lovely and arrived promptly. Our waitress friendly and happy to have a chat. It was also located nearby a plethora of bars and clubs, handy for after dinner drinks.

Schöne alte Bausubstanz (Fussböden, Wandfliessen) im denkmalgeschützten Gebäude.Das Essen ist OK - vernünftige Pasta mit OK Sauce (Bolognese) aber nicht ausreichend gewürzt - extrem dominant tomatig.Ich würde zukünftig ein anderes Lokal wählen weil die Auswahl an Alternativen hier gigantisch ist.Der Service war sehr charmant.Plätze draussen und drinnen.

Had a lovely dinner here with friends, served quickly and received our food in good time. One strange aspect of the visit was when we paid. As we wanted to split the meal in two they said we couldn't split it in half because it would go over the amount and that would be illegal (even if we did it to the penny). This wasn't an issue, we paid the full amount one one card but we were confused as this has never been an issue elsewhere!

Average pizza and rude, slow staff.We entered the restaurant about 9:30pm last week, the waitress looked like we had ruined her night walking in at that time so I said was it ok and with much disgust she said yes.We were seated down (5 of us) and took ages to be asked for drinks/food order. When the food did come two of the pizzas were wrong and the other pizzas were very average!The manager replaced the pizzas with what was originally ordered and took them off the bill but the rest of us had all finished by then!When we left a restaurant the manager and other staff let out an almighty woop! How rude and I have never experienced that before...at least wait to woop until your customers are down the road!Would not be inclined to go back with so many choices in this area!!

I visited this venue with colleague for a working lunch. The staff are lethargic and overwhelmed by the job. During the busy lunch period, staff simply could not handle the footfall in the restaurant, orders were confused and the time from entering the restuarant until being approached to take the order was over 1 hour.The food also took a long time to arrive, as clearly the kitchen staff could not cope with the amount of orders either. However..... The Pizza's were great, and the Linguine with Seafood was amazing!I think this would be a good place ot visit if the venue is not so busy. I would go again in these circumstances, but certainly not at lunch time.

I had high hopes for this place - always good to find a decent pizza resteraunt in London (there are a lot...). I ordered my pizza, then I ordered it again, again and again. They seemed to have forgotten about me completely and favoured the younger, louder Londonites to my left. One of which had a delay on a salad and was offered free salad while she waited - me however, I was just asked for the fourth time, what was my order again??So once the pizza arrived, the 4 cheese with mushrooms - I noticed that there was only one kind of cheese on it - a lot of it, granted, but alas....only one. So I ordered some gorgonzola on the side - and was presented with close to half a block on a plate. I didnt get around to checking the bill to see if I was charged for it.Service was scattered - either 3 people at once, or no one. Bill came before I was finished and I was generally, made to feel like I should have chosen Franca Manco (which is amazing BTW - Ill review them at some point).All in all, Yard is over rated, fairly average, NOT ITALIAN, blah service and rides mainly on thier location in Shoreditch. I would suggest another place - there are plenty around.

Found this restaurant after wandering around for awhile near our hotel, Holiday Express Inn City. We hadn't booked and doubted if we could get a table at 7.00pm on a Saturday night, but they squeezed us in.Reasonable menu and food came very quickly, didn't score to full extend as we thought that the montepulciano d'abruzzo tasted of vinegar. would have liked to have had a meat feast on the menu, had to order the spicy one and have the chillies taken off.Worth a visit.

We went in a really big group but they were very accommodating when a few extra friends arrived. Service was very quick - which is always amazing when there are 20+ people.

I've been only once at lunch time. I ordered gnocchi with spinach, chicken breast and blue cheese sauce. The sauce was based on some cheese but no blue cheese taste at all. Nothing else had much taste either. You can prepare the same dish or better yourself by buying the ingredients from Tesco for a third of the price. The same applies to the garlic bread.

Restaurant pizzéria, pâtes, salades. Pas mauvais mais pas incroyable. Les service est totalement à déplorer, serveur pas capable de retenir plus d'une chose à la fois. On leur demande une césar sans croutons pour cause d'allergie au blé, elle arrive avec des croutons... Gros amateurisme en matière de service. Pas méchants mais totalement incompétents. Sinon le restaurant est plutôt bien situé près de Old Street.

Pizza doesn't taste like a real Italian pizza , but it's good anyway. The place is cosy and the atmosphere is nice. Music is too loud, there is too much noise and tables are closed to others, that is why I wouldn't suggest it for a romantic date. The service is also good. Concerning prices, I would say they are not really expensive but not really cheap. In general , I would recommend it , expecially to spend time with friends on Saturdays. Maybe I would go again.

For my leaving lunch my manager booked this informal restaurant for us to enjoy pizza, pasta or salad. It was literally on our doorstep, right next door to the Fire Station bar.We chose a selection of pizzas and my colleague had a salad. All were very well presented, a fair size and tasted great.It was a relatively busy Friday lunch time so I did have to request the bill after waiting some time for someone to engage with us at the table. That said, the staff were friendly but were just super busy.For a reasonably priced place in a lovely, informal setting try the Yard. It is a great option. You will not be disappointed.

Ordered a spicy pizza, which allegedly should have had Nduja sausage on it. No evidence of said sausage, and my friends who ordered the same thing reported the same issues. So basically a pizza that wasn't spicy in the slightest. Waitress insisted it was present, but I've had it before, and it wasn't!My tip? Avoid!

Visited with friends on a busy Friday night - super quick drinks delivery followed by beautiful pizzas ! The boys braved the half yard each and survived !! The girls enjoyed a more sedate quarter ......... Couldn't fault the service and the surrounding s were great as we had a serving firefighter in our gang All credit to the manager and staff . Nettes kleines Restaurant mit sehr leckerer Pizza. Die Portionen sind nicht riesig, aber man wird gut satt. Preislich für Londoner Verhältnisse absolut okay. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Würde jederzeit wieder hier essen.

Took my team here for our Christmas party in January, we had the function room and all 50 staff had a blast! Fantastic pizza, great service so my thanks to the staff with a special mention for John for organising it with me.

Visited recently, late-ish on a Sunday night. Only a couple of other tables in.Service was great, really friendly and helpful. We ordered a 'half yard' of pizza and a couple of sides, plus wine and beers.Far too much food and we ended up taking part of the pizza home to enjoy cold for breakfast.Really enjoyed the pizza and the place had a nice vibe, despite being quiet.Playing some excellent old skool Prince which is never a bad thing.Recommended.

We were here on New Year's Eve for a quick bite. It's a lovely building and a great atmosphere. Service was very good, we ordered a starter and dessert of the set menu and the main courses a la carte, very flexible of them. Starter was nice but nothing spectacular. We both had the seafood linguine as a main, it was good with a spicy sauce (which I like so no problem at all) but not great and I have had better ones in London. They made a small mistake on the bill which was corrected with apologies. Overall the service was very friendly and good but the food was average. We didn't try the pizza and I would come back to try that, they looked really good. 4 stars because of the service.

We had starved ourselves unknowingly until it got to the point of fainting. We then found Yard. Very nice atmosphere and very friendly staff in fact the staff were top notch!I had pizza which was fresh and very tasty one of the boys had spaghetti Bolognese which he enjoyed. All in all a nice experience with nice food. Would return again!

I went to this restaurant on Friday evening… it was very good. I am very impressed with everybody working there and the food. I saw some bad reviews before writing mine but I have to say our experience was good. I am very happy and I would go back there as soon as we can. The caucasian complex lady was very attentive, always asking and serving us and other people around us. It is not much a place for a romantic dinner (a bit noise and busy) but it is a very good place to eat in this area. We are planing to go back soon.

I went with a group of colleagues for a lunch on 10/12/2015. The restaurant was very busy with a big party. We were worried that it would take long to be served. We asked a lady, we think that she was a manager that we have only 45 minutes for our lunch. Our order were taken the food was really good, ingredients fells very fresh and the pasta and pizza very good. Impressed! Highly recommended!!!

Absolutely appalled at the service myself and 3 friends received today at lunchtime. I have been to the Yard many times and always had a pleasant experience today however could not have been more different and has put me off coming back. We arrived at 1pm and informed the waitress who I later learnt was the manager Lusiene that we were on our lunch break and in in a rush, we ordered drinks and our food straight away we asked that the food come up as and when it was ready as we were in a rush and did not want the gap between starter (1 pizza bread between us) and main. Lusiene acknowledged this fine. We received our bread - lovely then 10, 20, 30 minutes past still no food even though 3 tables around us came in after and we're finishing their mains we asked twice how long the food would be once ignored and the other were told 5 mins another 10 mins pass and we called Lusiene over and asked for the food to takeaway as we had run out of time to which she said 'I am not the food I can't help it you had a starter' we told her that we had informed her that we didn't want it as a starter but she grunted, was very rude and laughed and walked away 5 more minutes and the food comes over lukewarm in bowls to which we stated we were now late back to work and needed them takeaway and for the bill please, another grunt and rude answer of 'I can't do everything' and walked away again we then asked her again if we could have the bill and she shouted across the restaurant that she was packing our food up and can't do everything, another 5 mins and now very late for work she brings the card machine over and walks away serving more food and disappeared we asked another waiter who was so helpful I believe his name was Douglas if we could pay and he helped along with another waiter who was very helpful. All in all the service from Lusiene especially as a manager was disgusting and we were not happy that we had to pay such a large amount for something that resulted in cold pasta in a polystyrene carton and having to explain to our manager why we were so late back - this has completely put us off coming back would not recommend visiting here if she is the manager on duty!!

I vistied the Yard with a group of friends on a Thursday night. Despite it being a popular evening to be out the place was fairly quiet and didn't seem to have much atmosphere. The waiter took FOREVER to take our order. We ordered two half yards of pizza and the pizza was nice, but definitely not as great as I had been led to expect. It was cheap though and the prosecco was cheap too for London so I guess you get what you pay for!

We had dinner here the other night, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonsable prices for it's location. Nice choice of pizza's and pasta dishes. The mozarella and balsamic onion flat bread was delicious.

First visit - a very quirky venue, with a mix of "pros" and "cons". The "pros" - superb pizza and sides, beautifully cooked and presented. Pizza price very reasonable. The "cons" - a) crazy prices for drinks ( £6.60 for a bottle of beer that can be supermarket bought at 3 for £5 ) b) "sides" expensive too, c) venue incredibly noisy, (possibly due to design and "bare" walls ? ) seriously impacted conversation at table. If you want really, really, good food, and can stand the mark up on the other bits, and are proficient at sign-language, this is a genuinely excellent eaterie

This place has a nice interior and reasonably helpful staff, although they were, by their own admission, understaffed on this evening. But it is a pizza place, and the pizza is ordinary at best, and not particularly cheap. Would not go again.

Very near the Hoxton, Great food, fast service at a reasonable price. Whats not to like about that. We were there on a Sunday evening and in spite of it being busy the order was accurate, hot and tasty.

I had a very pleasant dinner here. The pasta was tasty, the wine good and the staff friendly and helpful. If you want a decent but unpretentious dinner you couldn't go far wrong here.

We ate here during a visit to London on the recommendation of the hotel.The menu was a standard value Italian with prices a little higher than the norm outside London.We booked though we didn't need to. We were promptly seated and the service was friendly and prompt. We ordered stuffed mushrooms and bruschetta pomodoro to start followed by seafood pasta. The bruschetta was acceptable though it came with too much balsamic reduction and not enough olive oil. The mushrooms were not cooked.The seafood pasta (linguini and penne drespectivley) were clearly reheated and the fish content such as it was, overlooked.The restaurant threw in coffees gratis given the mushroom problem.Overall, very ordinary at a slightly inflated price.

Pleasantly situated in a built up area. Nice staff, very clean kitchen and toilets. Food not up to same standard. Americana pizza, exceptionally bland. Lasagne, overdosed wit tomato. Wine good but pricey for a pavement cafe. Desserts great.

Yard is excellent when you just fancy a big bowl of pasta, and a glass of wine. Unfussy, quick service, seats outside for when it's sunny, relaxed atmosphere. Seafood spaghetti and half a bottle of wine - £20 a head - done!

Perfecto restaurante para comer unas buenas pizzas, hechas al horno de leña, con ingredientes muy naturales.El local es muy acogedor.Recomandable!!

Good pizza with some original topping selections. Not tried the other dishes here but they looked good (especially the salads). Outside space to sit and eat if a nice day. Staff are speedy and friendly.

Couldn't rate this place any more highly. Very fast service, attentive, friendly staff, HUGE pizzas and a really nice atmosphere.
