Fabulous time, great food and service

Had an incredible evening at Ekstedt at The Yard. The open-fire cooking brought a deep, rich flavour to every dish without ever overpowering the ingredients, just beautifully balanced and full of intention. Everything from the atmosphere to the service was spot on. Marta made us feel so welcome from the start, and Lucas, Rukh and the team delivered a menu that was both elegant and full of flavours. Each course felt like it had a story behind it. A special thank you to Joselyn for the warm and attentive service and to Klearhos for the wine pairing — every glass was perfectly chosen and brought something new to each dish.

Wonderful dining experience here - the service was professional yet friendly, and the tasting menu was great. The smokey and rustic flavors were very refined and well thought out. Their signature oysters were fantastic, and I enjoyed the experience a ton. The turbot/mussel dish was exceptional as well. Every dish was great, I couldn't resist finishing the bread with their special butter.

Had a fantastic dining experience at the Scandinavian restaurant inside the Scotland Yard Hotel. The atmosphere is elegant and calming, with a modern Nordic feel. The food was fresh and beautifully presented—especially the gravlax and pan-seared cod. Staff were friendly and knew the menu well. It’s a bit pricey, but worth it for a special night out. Highly recommend!

Exceptional experience, the food was delicious and service was great. But I have two points of feedback: 1. It's too much bread in the tasting menu 2. Review the wine for the main pescatarian dish. But the paring in general really good

The greeting from the kitchen was a wonderful introduction with tartare and dim sum. The oyster from the open fire and the grill aromas in the following courses. Seldom eaten so harmoniously and tastefully. Big praise to the dedicated chef. The service was also very friendly and there was a good, selected wine list. Completely successful. For an upscale restaurant, the number of tables and the distance between them was a bit crowded. But it wasn't fully booked that evening, so this wasn't a problem, so there should be a star like in the main building in Stockholm. It's definitely worth a visit for gourmets!

An amazing dinner; a tasting menu all built around the concept of cooking over an open fire. The best oyster I've ever had, cooked with beef tallow. And great, friendly service. Updated Oct 2024: my first review was two years ago. I just dined again tonight (as well as six months ago) and it's still wonderful. Every dish was great, and the menu seems to be updated regularly. Definitely plan to come back when I visit London in the future! Updated Apr 2025: The food and service is still fantastic. And the menu has changed as well, loved the new dishes

Incredible culinary experience, a real delight for the taste buds. We took the wine option which went perfectly with the dishes. Impeccable table service, they took care to personalize the menu because I am pregnant, the alternative was delicious. The chef gave us a personalized cooking demonstration. And finally, the staff showed attention, attention to delicacy and professionalism which exceeded expectations.

There is a misconception here that a person has to be "nice for affording to buy some wine"... I thought the host had to be nice when somebody was buying wine... So, the all the wine is mine then!!! Three stars for being free.

10/10. Had a very special evening here last night. I decided to celebrate my birthday with 5 friends and I can honestly say, that the entire evening was faultless. The staff were polite, attentive and knowledgeable. The food was incredible. I consider myself a foodie, and I've eaten at my fair share of London's best restaurants. I would put Eksted at the top of my must-visit list! Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening so special.

Shockingly good meal - modern gastronomy without pretention. The flavors were lush, and presentation elegant without being overly theatrical.

Visited Ekstedt at The Yard for my anniversary with my wife. Food The food is fine, just okay. It didn’t really have a Scandinavian vibe to it in my option. Maybe it was my initial expectation, but I was expecting things such as lutefisk, gravlax, or something different like reindeer meat, not a pork loin or a bit of beef with chocolate sauce, or something served on some pine leaves. The food could have been from anywhere. The ingredients seemed to be high quality and well-cooked, but nothing particularly stood out to me, and some dishes just fell flat, such as the whey and butter course. The birch-fired scallop course was inedible to me, but the CEP mushroom Souffle and Falmbadu Oyster were both fantastic. Drinks We had a flight of wine with the courses, and the sommelier (a Greek gentleman) I found to be fantastic, personable, and knowledgeable. However, I didn’t find the wines paired fantastically with the courses. Service I found the service to be on the poor side. The staff felt rushed, so the timing was off slightly, or glasses were left to pile up on our table. I just found the waiter to be rather inattentive in his duties. Overall At the end of the night, I had some just nice food and some nice wines but didn’t feel that the value reflected the experience. At over £200 per head, there are other places to go in London that offer a superior, more polished experience for the same money as Ekstedt. Bit disappointing really.

Absolutely horrendous service, staff was rude and impolite when I asked for extra cutlery. My children didn’t get any sort of accommodation! Anyone who goes to this restaurant needa to consider it. Do not recommend

Fabulous Sunday Roast. We started with smoked scallop, which was delicious. We shared roast beef for two,which came with hasselback potatoes, carrots, parsnips, roast apple, Yorkshires, gorgeous gravy and a side salad. Generous portions, beautifully cooked. Our lovely waiter Leo, who made us so welcome arranged for me to visit the kitchen and meet the chef. A wonderful experience.

We had the Sunday roast, short rib which was really good and a decent size with good gravy. What I have issue with is the extremely small vegetable portion expected to be shared between 2 people, It really was a portion for 1 person, with a miniature Yorkshire pudding too. It was also all a bit cold ( not the meat ) Unfortunately the waitress could not understand English well and neither did she know the difference between the 2 cuts of meat that were offered on the menu and had to go and ask.

Thankfully brought here for my birthday, having seen and been enticed by Niklas Ekstedt on Master Chef. I adore outdoor cooking (despite the UK weather), so his methods/style really appealed. The tasting menu with wine pairing was sublime, as was the service. I was slightly disappointed that my birthday wasn’t acknowledged in some way (albeit confirmed upon our arrival) but nevertheless a great experience.

A wonderful meal. Some real stand out food. All the food was cooked perfectly, and no dish could be faulted , wine pairing was really good. No dish had strong smoky flavours personally I do think a bit more smokiness would have helped a dish or 2. Standout was the CEP souffle and the celeriac tart. The souffle was just amazing. The sauce with steak was gorgeous bringing everything together. All the additional extras were a real bonus that added to the overall experience

The best Sunday roast I’ve had in London! The meat was very tender and tasty. All the sides were deliciously cooked. The staff is lovely and the room is pretty. I will come back!

Had an amazing Sunday lunch here - really generous menu in a fine dining setting. The beef rump came with all the trimmings and the blackberry meringue desserts was amazing. An elevated Sunday roast for sure.

Firstly the venue is amazing and it's worth a visit, even if you avoid the food and head for a drink. The restaurant is not great, and you'll get a better experience at other local restaurants (like Hawksmoor on Air Street). The reason why I'm giving two stars is we were the 'left-alone' guests. We were ignored a lot of the time. Firstly they didn't have the right menu from the website vs. restaurant, and I had to ask why. The second is they started serving other guests (who arrived later) before us. I'm not normally this petty but when you're spending £500 on a dinner, you expect the experience to be top notch. This is not top notch at all.

Booked the Chef's table tasting menu to celebrate my partner and I both reaching a significant birthday this year. The experience could not have been better with fabulous food, drink and lovely staff. A very special yet relaxed experience.

5 course tasting menu with "volcanic" wine flight: the restaurant was half empty, in the back of a rather bland hotel. The feeling was much more hotel than dedicated restaurant. Food was quite nice - but for £90/head (food only) + £85/head for the wine I expect much better. Tastes were decent enough but certainly not exciting. The wine flight was ok, some of it went quite well with the food, some didn't. All delivered with a degree of pretentious nonsense by the staff. I wouldn't go again.

Had a fantastic Sunday Roast here last week - would highly recommend! The beef short rib was especially stand-out, cooked beautifully and so flavourful.

I booked this restaurant for my Husband's birthday after spotting the chef on MasterChef. We had the most amazing experience. We did the tasting menu and the food was incredible. The service was top notch and they added lovely additional touches for my Husband's birthday (a handsigned card by all the staff). Would 100% recommend for a very special evening!!

The food was brilliant but the service was not there. This place does not deserve a Michelin star. The servers had 0 enthusiasm, sounded scripted, banged the plates on the table and spit saliva in the intro on me 😂. I was somewhat able to overlook all of these but on the way out, there was no one waiting at the reception desk for us to pick up our coats. We called someone and he stood there watching my partner struggling to put on her coat. I went to village cafes that was treated better and didn't have to pay £400. The Owner and the Chefs working there are getting cheated on the hard work they put, so I had to let it out.

Amazing experience at this warm and friendly restaurant. I'm a big fan of scandinavian food and was excited to try this venue. We loved every course of this exceptional meal and the service was top notch. Highlights for me were the invitation in to the kitchen for one of the courses, to really experience how they are cooking the amazing food and unashamedly the bread and butter they have hand churned. I had a pescatarian tasting and every dish was sublime, I loved the stories behind the food and we enjoyed every minute. As we're not wine drinkers, we ended up ordering cocktails from the fabulous cocktail bar in the hotel and these were also exceptional. Thanks to the whole team for a unique and memorable experience.

Great dining experience There was some great dishes

The food was great but they significantly overcharged us TWICE which left a bit of a bad taste. Once and it would have been ok but twice took away from the magic of the evening. They didn’t really provide an excuse the first time., but the second time, they said they’d mixed us up with another table. Being that this is their business, staying on top of what each table ordered should not have been an issue. It was not addressed properly so left a disappointing feeling unfortunately for what should have been a special night. Still went for an automatic punchy 13.5% service charge after all that, so that happened.

I've eaten at a lot of high-end restaurants including three star Michelin but there are very few I would re-visit given the number of new places to try. However Ekstedt at The Yard is one of the few exceptions and definitely in my top three. The food was exceptional and there wasn't a single dish we didn't absolutely love, with each dish offering a unique flavour that we hadn't encountered before. I think my highlight would have to be the Cep Souffle. They even invite you into the kitchen to see one of the "snacks" being prepared and get a sense of what its like in a wood fired kitchen. The ambience is dark and moody which is perfect until you try and read the menu. Thankfully, the attentive staff quickly provided us with portable table lamps. Every member of the team was not only knowledgeable but also genuinely friendly, striking the perfect balance in pacing our meal throughout the evening. Can't wait to go back

So disappointed with our experience here on 7/27/24. Service was terrible, we were left for over an hour without anyone checking on us. Water and wine glasses went dry, no one bothered to ask if we'd like another glass. The food was fine, but not nearly worth the price point. In the middle of the meal, they gave us a huge slab of sourdough bread, which was pretty insulting. The portions were so small (even by tasting menu standards) and it was so transparent that they were just trying to fill us up with cheap bread. I think our server just forgot about us, and when we finally flagged him down, he was not at all apologetic about the lack of service.

Theres Anderson and her team certainly take you into the Swedish forest every course out did the last leaving you wanting more. The flavours tantalising your taste buds it was hard to say which was my favourite course either the lobster with the foam which tasted of the best lobster bisque or the veal carpaccio with mustard ice cream. The invitation to the kitchen was a memorial experience. The sommelier was so informed and interesting all the restaurant crew were exceptional. A must ! Excellent cuisine, based on cooking over a wood fire, with smoky, woody flavors. A wonderful wine list. A wonderful discovery! Very warm service. Don't miss the signature oyster, prepared in front of the guest in the open kitchen: a spectacle for the eye before the taste pleasure. In addition, the restaurant is in a prestigious place steeped in history: Scotland Yard, the former headquarters of British law enforcement. Some windows show related antiques.

My husband and I went for the tasting menu with wine pairing. We really enjoyed both the food and the wines (a part from the final wine which for us didn't work as it felt too bitter for the dessert). The staff is super friendly and polite, and a particular note goes to the Sommelier who spent the perfect amount of time in telling us about each wine tasted. My constructive feedback goes as this: the service felt quite rushed in the first half and slowed down in the second half. Try to make it less rushed as I was starting to feel drunk by trying to finish the wines. Therefore, I started leaving the wines behind, which was not nice. A couple of times, I had to ask for my tap water as I had an empty glass. Either leave the jag on the table or be more attentive. My husband ordered sparkling water, and the waiter removed the cap from the bottle. I'm sure it doesn't get flat straight away, but it's nice to be able to scre the cap. 13.5% discretionary tip is automatically added to the bill. I would like to choose what tip to leave, if any. Please give options whether to leave no tip, 10% 12.5% or 15% or higher.

The restaurant's six-course tasting menu promised fresh, innovative dishes, and the food mostly delivered. The chef's creativity shone through, and we eagerly anticipated each bite. However, the service was seriously lacking. We waited over an hour for the first course, and after prompting the staff, dishes flew out at a breakneck pace, with servers pushing aside previous courses for new ones. It was a culinary relay race. At one point, we had two wines on the table, as servers forgot we hadn't finished our previous pairing. The dessert wine pairing was a head-scratcher – the sweet dessert and wine just didn't match, and the wine arrived ten minutes after the dessert. The restaurant has potential, but the service needs work. Compared to others in its class, it falls short in overall experience. We left feeling like we'd been on a rollercoaster – highs from the delicious food, but lows from the inconsistent service. If they can improve their service, they could be a contender. For now, it's great food, really disappointing service.

Incredible food. As good as i have had in London. How the flavour from the flames enhance incredible produce is remarkable. Eksdet really needs to be more well known. We had the 9 course tasting menu. Incredible signature oyster dish, the most delicate smoked scallops, the lighter seabass, perfect wagyu steak and the remarkable mushroom souffle. Great experience with an exceptional customer service, they take you to the kitchen to witness the natural creativity of food which is a unique touch. The non alcoholic cocktails are insanely delicious.

Unique flavours and every course was very very well prepared. Atmosphere is great. There was some unnecessary confusion several times but overall the service was ok. Heads up that charging the bill to your room results in a 20% discount, which I only discovered by accident. In my case this meant I almost paid £100 more.

We were in London for a short trip. This restaurant was recommended to us by friends. The tip absolutely paid off. The food is very good and we were served lovingly and courteously throughout our stay in the restaurant. Thank you very much.

Lovely setup and impeccable service. Most of food was amazing (we really enjoyed every dish of the tasting menu), however we found the desserts to unbalance the tasting experience. After the pre-dessert (an amazing pine sorbet), we received a huge portion of chocolate dessert which was followed by more chocolate pralines making the end of the dinner too chocolate heavy an making us almost forget the previous experienced flavours. Having said that, we had a lovely evening and will surely return to try more from the chef 's unique cuisine.

The food was absolutely exquisite, the setting was beautiful and the staff were fantastic. My only constructive feedback is that having paid £300 per head for the 6 course tasting menu, all six of us left hungry. The portions are miniscule. The starters and mains should be doubled in size.

One of the most exquisite meals I've had the pleasure to enjoy. When your entire meal has been prepared with utmost care and the finest ingredients, and without gas or electricity. Just cooked or smoked over an open fire, pickled or fermented. It has to be experienced.

Been here with a group of 12. Only around 3-4 more tables have been occupied that evening. But it felt that the staff was very busy and the 4-course menu took 4 hours. Dessert was served at 11pm, by starting at 7:30. Don’t know what kept them absence from our table. All in all not a good performance. Food was good.

It was terrific, and I was impressed with every dish. I recommend going for the six-course set menu. I went for the three-course menu, and I regretted it, as everything was so delicious. The duck was the best duck I've ever had. I am looking forward to coming back soon.

Ekstedt at the yard is a hidden gem located in central London. I recently had the pleasure of dining there with my husband, and we were absolutely blown away by the experience. We did the volcanic pairing menu, and it was truly brilliant. The food was creative, and incredibly delicious. The service was also impeccable and the sommelier was very knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere at Nicola Eksted is really warm and makes for a truly special dining experience. I highly recommend it to anyone.

In a city where the selection of restaurants grows bigger every day, it is always a nice surprise to find something unique. The exceptional and friendly staff ensured our evening was spotless. We had the tasting menu, which is always a great choice if you want to experience the best that can come out of the kitchen and the wine selection could not have been paired better! I am definitely telling more people about this!
