It was absolutely amazing experience, we went there during the lunch time, it was nice and cosy atmosphere, waiter was lovely and funny:) we ordered calamari’s for starter , it was 5 stars , I had a pizza with a goat cheese and spinach , the base was nice and thin , and the last but not least, biscoff sundae, delicious, I will be coming back again this time with my family:)

We visited as a party of nine for a celebratory meal on Saturday night. Whilst the food was of a high standard the quality of the service we received from our waitress was awful. In the first instance she wanted to hurry us into ordering our starters and main course at the same time. It had been our intention to order the main course after eating our starters. We stated this to her and she insisted that starters and main courses have to be ordered together. I have never encountered this a Pizza Express before. I could understand if we had come to the restaurant not far from closing time but our table was reserved for 6.30. We understood that there would have been a delay between the starters and main course but that would have been fine as it would have given us time to chat. Secondly She forgot one of our drink orders and after much work to finally get her attention we had to remind her of our selection. An error was made with one of our main courses and when she brought the dish and we explained this she "tutted" at the individual concerned in disdain and proceeded to argue with her creating an uncomfortable atmosphere which other diners could see. Third she brought cutlery for nine diners to our table and literally dumped them in front of one of our party to distribute to the rest of our table. Overall we felt that her command of the English language was not sufficient for her role, we had to repeat things to her because she did not comprehend what we said. Her overall understanding of what customer service entailed was severely lacking as well. In summary having her as our server was a very uncomfortable experience and spoilt what should have been a convivial evening amongst friends.

I like Pizza Express but I'm afraid the Purley one was rather tired and lacked atmosphere. It is a converted bank and has that feel about it. That is all OK but the gents toilets were flooded and I found myself standing in pools of liquid (!). It is in a low valley so there may be issues with drainage. Also, I'm afraid my pizza arrived lukewarm and I had to ask for it to be reheated.

This place had rats, two rats popping out of another room when I went to the toilet. I would stay away. God knows what is in the kitchen. The food was nice, but had I known, I would have never gone in the first place. That was my last time visiting and never again!

I loved this restaurant the pizza is the best pizza I have ever tasted and is better than pizza hut and dominos pizza in my opinion. The Starters are lovely and the Americano Pizza is fantastic. I am happy to have written this review and I hope you can reply to me soon.

I come here fairly regularly. I'm a big fan of Pizza Express and this restaurant does not disappoint. I usually visit off-peak because my family prefer early dinners, therefore I am always served on time and the meals are perfect.

Was the longest 3 hours of my life we got there and was seating pretty quickly but then it took maybe 30 mins before someone took our order then we realised they had added something we didn’t want by accident. It took another 40 minutes to try and getting someone to come over to help us out with many failed attempts to get the attention of staff. The starter took an hour to come out then the pizza took 45 mins to come out and was oily. We had pre ordered dessert which then took another 30 minutes to come after we had finished our food although we pre ordered it. Was very disappointing considering it’s meant to be pizza express and expensive. There was no apologies or offers of free starters due to the length we was in there.

A lovely meal had here on a Tuesday night. Nuno was our server and was working the floor on his own. He was extremely friendly and efficient! Service was quick despite him serving several tables all at once. A great job Nuno! We will definitely be back :)

Lovely lunch had today with my colleague. It was cold and raining outside and as we got inside Pizza Express, it was clean and warm, and the staff were also welcoming. I cannot eat feta cheese so the staff member explained that I could have another cheese instead on the started I chose . Pizza was lovely too. The staff member who attended to us was very helpful and friendly . I would recommend this place for your go to Pizza

Visited last week end and then came back again today with the little one for National Pizza Day. It was quite busy, but service was quick and efficient. Nice pizzas both time, smiling customers, and very friendly manager. Everything you want for this local branch.

Always love coming here for a Pizza. Food consistently good and staff very attentive. Some great new items on the menu too including a delicious aubergine and chilli calzone which was surprisingly low on calories.

It's ok, distinctly average food. Franco Manca has much better pizza and it's cheaper. Service was good, but only 3 staff, so they were very busy. Atmosphere was flat, it was lunchtime and we weren't drinking alcohol.

Really impressed by the quality of the food, and particularly by how careful our server Leanne and the chef were in ensuring that my dietary needs (coeliac and food allergies) were met correctly. I was able to swap pizza toppings for ones which I was able to eat, and Leanne checked everything so that we were both certain that the food was safe for me. I really appreciated Leanne's care and attention to detail, and likewise the chef's concern that ingredients were OK for me. A big 'thank you' to all involved in ensuring that we had an excellent meal tonight! xx

I was introduced to this place in December I was filled but I found it expensive but it was a service and place to get out of the house or the area . Try out different places on my list.

A friend and I visited here for an evening meal. This was her first time. The waiters were excellent, friendly and our main meal was very tasty. Unfortunately as for the dough balls they were far too small and slightly overcooked. My dessert of a small ginger cake had too much ginger in it and the free cappuccino with it was warm. My friends dessert had hardly any taste of coffee in it. Hence minus a rating of one star. Pity really that this is the first time we’ve had to complain.

1. It's very understaffed and so the workload is too much for the staff who are doing a great job. But this fault lies with senior management. 2. I come to pizza express a lot and I felt the doughballs portion sizes were taking the mickey a bit and the pizza did not have enough cheese and therefore became crispy very easily. 3. When they brought the chocolate cake which was burning hot which was amazing. They also put the ice cream in that same bowl so the ice cream melts within 2 seconds, it's just not very clever. 4. The actual food service took way too long and the restaurant was half empty. Again maybe due to staff shortages but it just wasn't great. However, the servers and staff maintained their hospitality and patience throughout.

Visiting from the US, and since we also have a pizza express I figured I needed to try the British version. It did not disappoint!! The pollo pesto and bruschetta was so flavorful. I can see why it was busy! Despite the crowd, the customer service was phenomenal, I had the pleasure of speaking to Rebby. She always checked in on me and my friends making sure everything was good and bringing us whatever we needed without hesitation. Whenever I come back to the UK I will be sure to stop by again!

Visited a couple of months ago and was unable to gain entry as wasn't step free access. My daughter is a wheelchair user and the restaurant had no ramp. I emailed the duty manager Rebby who was very apologetic and keen to resolve the issue. I visited today after being informed a ramp had been purchased and now delivered. Very impressed with how Rebby dealt with purchasing a ramp making pizza express accesible to all. The meal we had today exceeded expectation and our server Leanne was amazing. Thankyou so much for listening and taking the appropriate steps to welcome disabled diners.

I went in with family for dinner yesterday evening around 6pm, we were greeted by the lovely server leanne she sat us on our table she was really helpful with the recommendations and really enjoyed our dinner leanne made us really feel welcomed and it made us very comfortable, the atmosphere was amazing, the rest of the staff was brilliant and I do recommend coming to Pizza Express Purley and I will happily return again.

Soggy chips and a tired cesaers salad

Awful service, plenty of staff there who's didn’t care about the maintaining standards. Dirty table, floors and seats. No customer care. Before Covid the old staff really cared about Customer service. It’s a shame as food is still good!!

Amazing pizzas, great pastas, cosy environment and great customer service, I'm a regular customer and they never disappoint, as an Italian I've tried many pizzerias in London and I can say that this is by far one of the best ones manager Rebecca was very help full

We went to pizza express in Purley just after 9pm and we got turned away. According to the front of house staff who didn't seem to have a clue what was what, they stop serving 90 minutes before the restaurant actually closes. They were still able to serve takeout, so clearly the kitchen is functional but apparently they couldn't seat us because if they let us in, they'd have to let loads of others in (it was Wednesday night and the restaurant was dead, so I guarantee the floodgates were not about to open). Ridiculous.

Food was great, service even better. Waiter , I think he was Spanish, and manager , young with glasses, made us feel extremely welcome. we’re knowledgeable about gluten allergies and ensured my daughter had a safe happy meal.

Decided to have pizzas delivered, I must've picked a terrible day/time. The pizzas arrived soggy with bases coated in charcoal grit. Utterly disappointed.

Came here pre booked online. Table service not as efficient but looked like only one person serving. Food and drink was lovely, nice atmosphere. Took away some undi ished food. Came with the kids and had a good kids menu. Had some great offers on the app. Off road after hours parking or local paying car park.

What a disappointment! Came here with my daughter and were allowed to seat anywhere we wanted, as it was almost empty. Good start, you would say. Then the little one is served with the dough balls with butter, even if they say you get houmous. The pizza is a good size for children. The dessert is missing the strawberry and the icing. So you don't really get what it says on the tin. Regarding the adult pizza, what a fiasco! An overcharged margherita pizza, with some dry mushroom and burnt ham ...around 15 pounds. And the crust is so thin and hard to chew... And you have no option for sauces, unless you want some salad dressing on your pizza. Conclusion: 2 words (technically 3)... don't bother!

I don't like leaving negative reviews but the other day I was doing my daily walks and was refused the toilets because I wasn't eating there at that moment. I visit this restaurant maybe 3 times a year and never had any issues with it. Unfortunately this encounter soured it for me. I have a medical condition unfortunately which forces me to use the bathroom more often, and I really didn't want to discuss this with the staff there. Luckily there was the big Tesco nearby.

Then Irving my waiter introduced himself , he was friendly , polite and seemed to enjoy his job, went out of his way to make us feel special. The food was excellent, a really lovely evening with a good atmosphere. Must mention Lili who took our payment at the end , they were all really friendly, efficient I will definitely return.

Pizza Express really has gone downhill. First time in a few years and so disappointed. Waiter polite, courteous and helpful, but kitchen useless. Couldn't get anything right. Drinks, don't even do orange juice, just squash. This is a business going down the pan

I was seated at 5 the restaurant was empty and no one came to ask me for drinks or to take my order until 5:30 when a nice female waiter asked if we’d been seen to I assume she wasn’t on our section but still sorted it out for us.The service apart from that one nice lady was awful and overall food took an hour and everyone got food before us not happy with my experience it was supposed to be a nice early birthday dinner with my best mate and it would’ve been nicer eating at home.

I didn’t catch the name of the male that served me today 9/7/22, but he was very lovely and his customer service was excellent although we was taking away completely made me and my partners day and that goes to show that good customer service goes a long way! Will be returning soon

My pizza was tiny the prawns were shrimp size no chilli in oil . My grandson's dough balls were the smallest iv seen so far. My son's pizza was OK. Our waiter was very attentive but considering I go to the Clapham express every Saturday so I do know value for money and a decent pizza would not go to the Purley branch ever again

Pretty hard to place the first order through deliveroo. Once I made it the delivery time was 40 min and guess what?!? Pizza was cold! 👎 Luckily calamari was still warm , though not hot as it should be. Dough ball were extremely small.

Lovely welcoming staff despite them being so busy and also had two staff off sick for the night. Waiter had an amazing memory for our 9 people order - as his electronic note book was not working! We all said the food was really good and the only downside was that the time overall has probably cost us parking tickets for the two cars.
