My last visit to Pizza Express will be my last. Nothing appeals in their new pizza range and the cost has skyrocketed. £2.50 to add some capers or other toppings? Seriously? To cap it off, my disgusting sorbet has a large piece of broken plastic embedded in it. The staff did their best and I can’t fault them (except perhaps whoever dished out the sorbet). Such a shame as PE was a family favourite for many years.

We ordered the thin, crusted pizza with mushrooms. The taste was good, but it wasn't cooked at high temperature, which is why the crust was soggy! It was not what I expected. The service was good and nice interior.

Ordered a takeaway Hawaiian pizza this evening - truly the most disgusting pizza I've ever had the misfortune to put passed my lips. Will leave what I couldn't eat without throwing up on your doorstep tomorrow.

Really amenable team and great service, served by the manager and a lady who were both happy to help. Food was faultless we had a fab time and will visit again.

Nice pizzas. Terrible service. Booked table for 5pm. When we arrived the lady who received us didn't speak, I had to guess she worked there. Explained we had a table for 3 booked at 5pm. Apologized that we were 3 or 4 mins late. She seated us and we explained my daughter needed to eat pretty swiftly as we needed to be out of there by 6.10pm (we were eating between her matinee and evening performances at local theatre). We then waited and waited for service, seeing other tables seated AFTER us being seen to first. One waitress looked at me and mouthed '2 minutes' then proceeded to wander off and deal with a drinks order which took her ages. I ended up having to get out of my seat and find a waitress. We eventually ordered at 5.25 and the food didn't come until 5.55. And then only after I said again that we were still waiting. Needless to say, they lost my tip.

Terrible service took half an hour just for them to ask us for drinks. Food was good but doesn’t make up for wait time. Hopefully will be improved next time we come.

Terrible service. Waited 35 minutes without even ordering. Then, waited 1 hour and still didn't have our food when the restaurant was almost empty. UNACCEPTABLE service and we will NOT be coming back.

Haven’t been to this Pizza Express branch since before the pandemic so it was great to see that they now have a separate vegan menu! The vegan pizzas were great too - dough was nice, thin and crispy and cheese didn’t have that strange coconut smell the mainstream vegan cheese normally has. They also let my 4 year old make her own tomato pasta which she really enjoyed and actually made her eat more of it than she usually would. The polenta chips (vegetarian) were super delicious. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming so overall we had a lovely dining experience.

Walked in at 8.25pm to be told kitchen shutting at 9pm and we wont be served, unreal! Will never go back again!

Have been eating here for years with friends the best pizza express in the area. They retain their staff so will always get a warm welcome. Clean tables & staff who care. Will continue meeting friends here for years to come as long as they don't change anything

Really overpriced in my opinion. Beetroot is not the same cost as truffles for example! Its not a delicacy its a root vegetable! Really so overpriced for what it is. Aaircon was also a bit chilly by the door. Great service except the welcome was non existent until our waitress came...food completely underwhelming. Even the kids were a bit meh this time. 😕

Sat for 20 mins and no one came to take our order so we left and went across the road to the corner cafe.

Updated Review: 2 Stars On my first visit, I was impressed and left a 5-star review. However, my subsequent experiences have compelled me to revise my rating. We ordered pizza for home delivery and were surprised to receive one nearly half the size of what we had at the restaurant. We thought it might have been a one-time error, so next time we sent our son to buy another pizza directly from the restaurant. Unfortunately, he came back with a similarly smaller pizza. When I checked their menu, there was no information provided about the sizes of the pizzas. I believe that consumers have the right to clear information before making a purchase. The lack of transparency regarding pizza sizes feels like a breach of consumer rights

The outside of this place is so disgusting (peeling paint and rotting woodwork) that it should put anyone off from going inside.

After visiting Pizza Express in East Grinstead we shall not be returning. The service was slow, the restaurant is dirty. The toilets are disgusting, no locks on one of the doors. Health and hygiene is clearly not followed throughout this restaurant. Food on the wall behind us and the marble borders. Very disappointing after coming to Pizza express after many years.

Had a really nice meal here on the 5/8/2023. The food was delicious and well prepared. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Service was very efficient our food arrived promptly We and my wife felt in good hands when we came here for late lunch. Would definitely come here again. It was pretty quiet in here this was mainly due to the weather being so wet outside. We were more than happy that it was nice and peaceful 😀 We managed to park opposite the restaurant which was lucky but there is very limited parking out the front. Thankyou guys

My 7 year old son and I visited for my birthday, it is my sons favourite place to eat. We sat down at 5pm, and at 5.20 we still hadn't been spoken to, offered drinks nor had our order taken. I then called over the lady who had seated us (the manager I believe) who promptly took our order, brought over our drinks and doughballs swiftly. We then waited a further 20 minutes for our pizza. The table next to us had waited an hour for their main course. Although the restaurant had various other tables, it was not what I would consider busy. And communication with the tables was really lacking. I have been visiting this restaurant since moving to EG in 2015 and generally the staff and food is super. Today has been very disappointing, especially as it was my birthday. Pizza was fine

Ordered a pizza from here, waited over 2 hours. Rang the branch 10+ times and nobody answered. Ended up having to spend another 20 minutes going through the website to cancel it and still awaiting refund. Save your time and money!

For a predominantly pizza shop they can’t do much right. Pizza was very very undercooked, dough balls doughy and raw. Pizza wasn’t even sliced!

Great relaxing restaurant. Went at 4.30pm on a Sunday afternoon for an early dinner. Great service and speed of delivery and the food was very fresh and flavoursome. I had the La Cubana, which was delightful and followed it up with the amazing Honeycomb Cream Slice

The pizzas had hardly any cheese, or ingredients, they were barely cut and looked like a 5 year old had tried. The calamari was burnt and the salad was ridiculously small. Over priced and quiet frankly disgusting! We called to say how disappointed we were, as we paid over £96! The manager called back saying the chief oversaw the cutting and the food was fine! Won’t be ordering again! Wish we’d stuck with Pizza Hut!!! Management should take customer’s complaints seriously!

Went for my daughters birthday. Very "standard" food, nothing amazing. Pizza was ok, Tiramisu was tasteless. Slow service. Restaurant looks grubby. My kids like plain pasta and routinely Pizza Express delivers disgusting looking re-heated pasta whenever we ask for it. Basically chain food restaurant marginally better than McDonalds but a lot more expensive.

Katie looked after our large table and was amazing as always. Thank you for being a wonderful, cheerful waitress.

Dear manager and team Re- table 14 1st time using the Pizza Express 🍕 and all was really lovely Vivian had assisted prior to visit with a table needed on request (specific needs) and on arrival all in readiness a long with a smile Our main server was Becca, busy yes but really very helpful and assisted in any way needed The veggie Padana was delicious and the veggie Orta (calzone) was spot on along with halloumi side. The ordering of, and meal arrived timely and the dessert lemon 🍋 roulade was lovely Really very lovely experience Best wishes Kevin

Food always good at Pizza Express. Decor in this venue is tired and needs updating. Tables very close together. Despite booking well in advance our table was right at the back. Our waitress seemed less than impressed by her slightly over 10% tip

A pre-cinema quick 2 for 1 on mains offer, it was really good food and service. The only downer was the distribution of work, it seemed to all come back to one of the waitresses, just a hick up. We reckon the manager just needs to tickle the work allocation. We would go again

Our waitress basically reprimanded us for trying to order our children’s food with our drinks as they were so hungry. She agreed to do us a favour and do so. Then we tried to order our adult food and she told us we may not do so! What a joke! Who is the customer? She took so long to get to us we had all made our minds up anyway. Luckily we are nice people and still have her a tip but I will certainly not be back!

Terrible place. Awful service. Shoddy pizzas, how they can justify charging so much for pizza that had such s tiny amount of topping on is beyond me. Waitress didn't seem to have a clue when she airbed with the food, the starters had been cleared away and she just stood there. Moved the plates ourselves, only then did she put the food on the table. Screaming kids everywhere did nothing for the atmosphere either. I won't be going here again EVER!

We just had our Daughter’s birthday party here and what a success it was!! Karima was absolutely brilliant, accommodating and fantastic with the children, her lovely colleague also helped us have a wonderful time. Excellent service, caring touches. Highly recommend- we will be back soon- excellent team- well done to all!

The incorrect pizza arrived (due to being marked wrong on the box for delivery) stone cold and an hour after ordering. Called restaurant who advised to refund and reorder. Not to mention that refunds take days to process through the bank and I'd be down two order fees - they then turned their uber orders off, so i can't reorder! Wasted money.

I ordered classic etna and it was good.

Delivery was late. Pizza was STONE cold. Not Stone baked. Terrible.

As expected but expensive for what you get these days

The pizza is good and the kids love it here but the service and some staff in particular are difficult to deal with and make it an unenjoyable experience which is a shame.

Bit of a long story, cutting it short, I ordered from this restaurant via Deliveroo on the 26th of October. The rider/driver apparently never turned up, after over an hour I called pizza express quite angry and frustrated, the manager explained the Deliveroo person never turned up. After having a moan at the manager over the phone I hung up and called Deliveroo and cancelled my order. I then called pizza express directly and ordered the food again and explained I would be picking it up myself. The manager to his credit said it would be 15 minutes or less. I arrived at the venue to pick up my order and whilst he was packaging it I did apologise to him for being so frustrated down the phone, the manager to his credit accepted my apology and ended up giving us the food for free due to the mishap explaining he would be claiming the money back from Deliveroo. Hats off to the manager as it was NOT his or pizza expresses fault the food was never delivered nor was he responsible for any of the inconvenience, yet he gracefully accepted my apology and gave the food free of charge. And because of to him and his customer services skills as he dealt with the whole situation beautifully, thank you pizza express and particularly the manager for handing this situation so well. He single handedly turned a terrible expirance into a good one. Thank you

Good customer service and the staff's were lovely. Food was delayed a bit but was understandable.

My partner and I called into Pizza Express last night for dinner around 7.30pm. On opening the door we were greeted by utter chaos - approximately a dozen 5 or 6yr olds screaming the place down, clearly beyond tired and ratty, fighting/clawing at each other, running around, utterly out of control. 2 or 3 parents at the end of their triple length table oblivious - not caring would be more accurate - to the chaos and impact on the staff and other diners. Said children had been allowed to pick anything they wanted off the adult menus, were high as kites on sugar, and then the parents seemed to have a real issue with putting their hands in their pockets and paying the bill. It all shrieked of indulged, lazy, spoilt, horrid people. Grim parents. To counter this, I watched the waitresses working their socks off, doing everything they could to be professional, appease the other diners, show patience and maturity to people who frankly deserved none of it, and really tried to save the business that evening - it was just a really tough place to both work and grab a bite to eat. We were granted a little table outside and nothing was too much bother for our waitress. Our food was excellent and the chefs were smiling and charming. Everyone has the right to bring children to a restaurant and celebrate a birthday party. Unfortunately the clientele forgot that they also have responsibilities as parents to act as parents, and their treatment (from what i witnessed) of the staff was rude, arrogant and entirely self serving. They certainly cost the business considerable trade that evening - and the attitude of the waitresses really saved what could easily have been a virtually empty restaurant. If any 1 star review originates from those parents ignore it! Bitter, horrid, lazy people. One charmer even returned 15 mins after they had begrudingly paid and left to seemingly threaten the waitress over a carton of milk that some child claimed they hadn't received... Well done to the staff. We will return for sure because the restaurant is perfectly nice and the staff are excellent. This was a real 'one off' in terms of chaos (I'm a primary teacher, so I'm not making random judgements, I know how my classes behave and this was appalling/shameful), so don't let it put you off going - quite the opposite, support this business.

We visited on a summer Monday lunchtime. It was not busy but not empty. Service wes quick food was really nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. No problem recommending.

As always the dos was good but after 40m wait it took the joy of it the meal.

Amazing food! Pizza was out of this world and the staff where super attentive! Guaranteed winner if you are hungry, had a lovely dry rose wine! And the kids LOVED the sorbet!

For the second time in a row our delivery was cold and the driver left before being able to complain. Never had a problem from their competitors.

With a party of 10 . The pizzas seemed okay but the pasta dishes were awful . All pasta and no sauce . Sent mine back and still ended up with just a dessert spoon of sauce with the pasta . For £12+ ! ! .

Staff friendly enough although were distracted by their personal conversations. Had to frantically wave for attention or call out. If I'm honest, I wouldn't go back here as the atmosphere felt very lack lustre....

Over priced food 3 X pizza a bottle of wine and one beer £77 pounds and rude staff and to top it off a service charge for delivering food and drink to the table. It should be up to the customer to leave a tip not a service charge. Definitely would never return

Who knew, Pizza Express offer Pot Noodle Beef Bolognese! Sounds funny? No not so much! Requesting that my beef bolognese be served on top of the penne pasta the team when above any beyond by separating the dishes. To my dismay, I forgave the pasta swimming in water… but the tomato sauce, with two grains of beef … yes not grams, grains! I requested if the Chef would add more beef.. the response surrendered me speechless… “This is how it comes…. From the sachet!”. With zero service recovery and left to check oneself out on line… i question if I am wrong to think this is wrong! Feel free to try the pot noodle beef(less) bolognese! Or stay at home and make it yourself.

Pots noodles are now available at Pizza Express.. Renowned for their Pizzas, maybe it was foolish for me to expect that an all time Italian classic would be on a par. My only request was that the beef(less) bolognese would be placed on top opposed to mixed in. The team went beyond the call of duty and placed the bolognese separately. I first considered that the beef was on its way.. so asked if I had received the correct dish. The waitress confirmed that yes I had indeed received the correct order - essentially two grains ( not grams) of beef floating in a bowl of tomato sauce. I requested that maybe the Chef could add more beef…the response left me lost for words… “This is how it comes… from the sachet!” Little did I know that I had ordered the equivalent of a pot noodle beef(less) bolognese. Removing the item from the bull was the only act of service recovery the table received. No one asked how the food one and only the plates were taken, leaving us to check out online with no so much as a goodbye. The only gentlemen who seemed to care was the more ‘seasoned’ member with glasses. I should had taken a picture…

Great kids birthday party with friendly and helpful staff. Let down by putting two different parties next to each other with the massive increase in noise chaos and covid risk. A shame.

Nice place, clean & tidy and lovely food. You never wait long for your food and the service is quick. I do find it annoying that 3 people come over asking if everything is ok when you're trying to eat and have a conversation with the person that you're with, they could do with just asking once maybe, other than that it's a nice place to go for some food. Prices are reasonable too.

Staff were great looking after a small group of teens celebrating a birthday whilst us embarrassing parents hid in a corner and stayed out of the way.

Never felt the need to leave any reviews in the past for any restaurant ! Been going to this restaurant for a number of years but not been out with the family for sometime due to covid. This was meant to be a treat for our 2 young children but this evening was ruined. To be fair the service was OK until I found what I could only describe as a large circular lump of gristle about 2cm in diameter on my pizza. Unfortunately I did not see this until it was too late and began chewing it. After spitting it out and alerting the waiter he took the plate away to the chef. I heard the chef say"just tell them it was meat or something" before the waiter returned with the left over pizza !! Obviously the pizza was taken off of the bill but to be told that "it was just a piece of beef or something " and "what do you want me to do about it ?" just isn't on ! If it was gristle, it was very dry and made me feel physically sick. I should have taken a photo of the object and added it to this feedback, but I was in a state of shock before it was whisked away. It ruined the evening and I will not be returning to any pizza express in the future.

Fantastic place for teenage birthday party. Staff, especially Vivian went above and beyond and made a real fuss over the birthday girl. Thank you for making her birthday so enjoyable.
