Pizza Express in Plymouth

Booked a table, received confirmation. Turned up to only be told our booking had been cancelled as they were too busy. 20 free tables said otherwise. We had waited 30 mins for our booking in which time we could've eaten at one of the empty tables and paid and be gone. Total joke.

Literally the worst pizza that I ever tasted in my life , I ordered I ordered the prawn pizza the portions are very poor , the taste is horrible I would say the worst in England.

The driver took so long that my food was room temperature when it arrived which made the pizza a lot worse than it should be. And the amount of toppings on the pizza were so few for how much the toppings cost

Terrible. Pollo pesto extremely smaller than usual and missing onions and mushrooms, complete rip off. Pizza tiny too and not even cut. LAZY staff!!!

My girlfriend and I recently visited Pizza Express before heading to the Theatre Royal. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food was exactly what we hoped – fresh, tasty, and served without delay. We had a lovely, hassle-free meal and enjoyed the experience.

Absolutely incredible team and amazing service by them all!! My daughter had a last minute pizza making birthday party here today. They managed to accommodate a large amount of us and met every need possible! The manager was so kind and helpful every time I rang up with questions and put my mind ease! The staff were so friendly and hands on - nothing was too much trouble and they were so great with all the children! The pizzas and dessert were delicious and cooked to perfection! You provided us with an amazing stress free party and everyone had a fantastic time - thank you so much!

It seemed to be in the run down end of town and was virtually empty on a Bank Holiday weekend. I can’t fault the food, but the whole experience felt a bit weird (where was everyone?). Very strange.

Very clean and tidy restaurant! we were served by Callum who was fantastic! He was quick with his service and very friendly and polite - you can tell he wanted to be there :) we will be back!

To pay £15 for a pasta dish that was smaller than a kids portion is disgraceful, not sure how pasta gets burned making carbonara!! £20 for a pizza that had maybe a handful of cheese when described as double cheese and peperoni. Will NOT be ordering here again.

The in-house dinning reviews seem to match there delivery service not good. A chicken & bacon pizza without chicken tossed on more yellow and red pepper to soften the blow....3 scabby bits of bacon. Appreciate the feed back and that you'll spend time to review with your pizzaiolos what went wrong with my order an update would be nice. On a positive on receipt of the pizza I did phone your restaurant and the woman on the other end was very nice and apologetic. Have attached a photo of the said pizza that a hungry police sniffer dog wouldn't even find chicken.

For a short while now, we are semi-recent owners of a smartphone and have been attempting to come to terms with the PizzaExpress App. It isn't always that simple for us, although, after a little trial and error, we managed to log in to the WIFI etc. at PizzaExpress Plymouth Derry's Cross and log in to the new PizzaExpress App. It was excellent that, even though there was a relatively busy house, we were cheerfully ushered onto a spare table, in spite of the fact that we hadn't booked. What was also brilliant, was that the nice waitress almost immediately brought us a jug of drinking water and two glasses, (we hadn't even mentioned it) lovely... Shortly after settling down at the waiting table, and after coming in, we enjoyed our tasty little starter drinks of Birra Peroni Nastro Azzurro and Soave D.O.C. After relaxing with our pre-dinner drinks, Olives Marinate and Dough Balls we pondered over the items listed on the menu, although we couldn't get it all to go right onto the app, (we're not so young anymore and not too smartphone-savvy etc.). Fortunately, the waitress helped us to come to terms with the PizzaExpress-app - on the phone, etc... A little while afterwards, we thoroughly enjoyed our selections of the newly listed Prawn Peperonata (for my wife) and Vegetarian Cannelloni for me, tasty... Our wine with these delicious choices was the nice dry smooth, but slightly fruity Soave D.O.C., nice... The Dol Caffe Reale and Dol Lime & Basil was nice as well (nice...) The helpful waitress also helped us with our difficulties with the smartphone app. whilst paying. Not to mention even booking a taxi home for us after we commented on the presence of a taxi stand just outside PizzaExpress, all-round brilliance, excellent...

If you're the kind of person who gets annoyed when everything is perfect, maybe give this place a miss. You can tell the staff are doing the best they can but there were a couple of mistakes. We booked a table for 4 people. Upon arrival there was only 3 seats and my cutlery was dirty. On the other hand all of the servers were friendly and you could tell they were working really hard. The food tasted good, everything came out in good time and we never felt like we were forgotten about. So if you can forgive a few minor mistakes this is a good place to eat.

I went there on Sunday, and the food and the drinks took over an hour to be served. There was one member of staff who had to serve all the tables, which slowed down the service. When the food arrived, it was pretty good, as the pizzas were thin and crispy. However, the only downside was the service, and a lack of atmosphere.

Came for a meal before a show. I ordered gluten free food without any dramas. The food was good and the service was fast. Thanks Libby!

Had to send my meal back twice the base was soggy wet like it had just been put in microwave to defrost it was yukky, even the server couldn't believe what she was seeing.

The pizzas were thin as advertised, but they managed to make the toppings crisp while the dough was soggy and raw. Kind of a talent in itself. The tables weren't cleaned properly from the previous guests and the whole restaurant smelled like sweaty old man.

I was at the door in less then a minute and by the time I got to the door he was down the pafe I just cort him and he came back all I did was walk down the stairs then I was at the door

There wasn’t any ham or seasoning on my pizza, it was very bland. I will visit the restaurant but I won’t order online again unless they can deliver what I’ve ordered. This is a shame as pizza express is my favourite restaurant, I’ve been going here for years.

Had a great meal at this establishment with friends to celebrate a birthday. The service was excellent and the lovely waitress (Libby I believe her name was) was excellent when it came to service and attending to any queries raised regarding the meal and payment. Would definitely go again and recommend to anyone looking for a relatively budget friendly meal.

My friends and I spent our evening celebrating a birthday here tonight. The waitress Libby was lovely and able to help us with all our queries regarding deals however when we wanted to raise a concern with the manager she declined to come over to speak to us and instead spoke through the waitress. Furthermore, towards the end our waitress seemed considerably less animated due to the harsh conversation the manager had with her which we all felt incredibly bad for. Would not recommend if you actually wanted to speak to a manager here.

Visited on a Sunday night and we were the only people in the restaurant so the service was very good, our food was very good and we will return again when we next visit Plymouth.

However, they managed to squeeze us in, and I would advise booking in advance The service was great, great atmosphere, what I like most was once the food was delivered you was left alone to eat it without anyone coming over to ask "is everything alright" On the whole, a great experience (as always)

Not as advertised! We thought we would pop in for a quick bite to eat before a show and was advertised that she could do it within a hour! Poor management, asked to take the food away and left with one person meal and not a pizza. Not cheap, I'm a pizza down at £12 pounds. Could've turned us down if you couldn't fit the time scale. Shame as food generally not too bad usually

Rubbish!! We ordered a pizza and nothing arrived!

We booked a table for four to have a pre-theatre meal, allowing 1.5 hours to eat. The service was inattentive and slow even though the place was not exceptionally busy. It took 35 minutes to be served our drinks. The food took another 20 minutes. Our grandson enjoyed his child's pizza. We had two starters to share - mushrooms and olives, and estimated that there were no more than two (smallish) mushrooms chopped in the dish. Three of us had different salads, which were uniformly poor. The timing of the mains was weird as two of us had almost finished our dishes before the third was produced. The staff were aware that we were unhappy but didn't care. The prices were way too high. We will never go there again - not recommended! My wife and I recently ate at Knead Pizza in St Andrews Street, which was cheaper, gave excellent service and good food: the comparison was stark.

Popped in at 7pm. Seated promptly and drinks served within 5 minutes. Food quickly followed. Excellent service by staff and good to see a manager clearing tables , serving food and helping out. A rare site in the hospitality sector these days. Kitchen staff seemed happy and this was reflected in the food. Did run out of a few things (expected on a busy Friday night) but handled professionally and things quickly changed /rectified. Overall a very positive experience.

Ordered a Romana Padana, with an extra topping. it's probably one of the stingiest pizzas I've ever had from Pizza Express. 5 olives for £1.50 and barely any goat's cheese. Disappointing

Kept changing delivery time and food arrived wrong and cold.

We booked early as we were going to see a show. Was seated promptly had our order taken asked for water for the table not asked if we wanted bottled or tap so along came a bottle. We shared starters which was prompt then it all went down hill from there. Pasta arrived in cold bowls which then made the dish to eat lukewarm,the onions were not cooked still crunchy not offered any Parmesan. People around us were waiting over half an hr even to get a drink. The table was cleared and the waitress didn't offer us a dessert menu or coffee no apology. There was a table of 5 that walked out as there were seeing the same show and had no time to eat. Very disappointed. I was not going to pay for the water which we didn't ask for and they did take some money off the bill which they only done as I complained.

Food and service brilliant as usual. Boring restaurant with no atmosphere though...cold feel to it. And I don't know why they seem only to require people eating vegetarian options (ie. Vegetarians primarily), to have to pay more as donations to charities ..couldn't see a single meat option where the price was more because it included a charitable donation. But unfair.

All the food arrived cold, to the point it was barely edible. They pizzas had very little cheese one, especially as one was a margarita you would expect cheese. I would like a refund as we were unable to eat over half our dinner

Staff friendly though one drink had to be chased up, very quiet though by the time we left they had seven tables occupied but I think 2 pizzas 2 soft drinks 1 large wine 1 small wine and i pudding for £61 is pretty pricy when my pizza was only luke warm when it arrived and the covering wasn't exactly thick, a common problem it feels like at eateries. Their VIP app was alittle confusing and if it states you are eligible for two rewards then you should get two rather than having to choose between the two. Clean table and surroundings but feet felt cold. For what you pay its far too expensive so won't be returning

I hate leaving bad reviews, but after our final time visiting this restaurant before deciding we wouldn’t come again I thought it’s worth leaving some feedback. This is literally the closest restaurant to us and we like the pepperoni pizza. We thought we liked the nduja dough balls, until after the first time ordering it it comes entirely different depending on who is working and how they’ve decided to cook it. Very often food is undercooked or burnt or somehow both, and missing ingredients swapped for others without letting you know, when this happens literally everutime you come to the restaurant or order takeaway you are unable to eat half of it… eventually you stop going. It’s a waste of money. The staff are generally nice people but I don’t think they have much time to do their job or training as I’ve never been asked if I want the bill or had quick service, and it’s usually really quiet.

In my recent trip to Pizza Express, I had a very enjoyable experience. The staff were all polite and attentive. The food was amazing and I didn’t have to wait long at all, would 100% recommend!

Not busy, lots of staff hanging around. 6 of us ordered food. 5 meals arrived. 5 minutes later, we had to ask where the remaining pizza was.. and it took another 3 or 4 minutes. Clearly forgotten. It was a simple margherita pizza, obviously rushed, and turned up not properly cooked. Two thirds of the pizza was literally disintegrating and sloppy, it hadnt been cooked properly. Sent it back. 5 mibs later, it turns up and is still not cooked. Sent it back. 3rd time it arrives and its better but still not great. Manager tookthe pizza off the bill but there was never one apology, just some very smart and sharp comment that 'the manager has checked this pizza (the 3rd one) and she has passed it as correctly cooked."... pizza plate dropped onto the table and walked off. 2 other pizzas over cooked, but we were hungry so just ate them. Really disappointing, for a relatively expensive meal for what it was, Will not be going back.

I’m currently at the restaurant trying to finish off the hardest burnt pollo pasta I’ve ever had. It took them half an hour to cook so the expectations were higher due to care a diligence but no it wasn’t worth waiting a minute for. I didn’t fill up the plate, it felt like I could count the pasta, 56. I felt like I nearly broke a tooth on the pasta!! The service wasnt very good as they only had 3 people working for the 60 customers, so not their fault. Very disappointing for a main which felt like it could’ve been a starter. I would avoid coming here. Please go at your own risk. The staff took it off the bill so I increased their service. It wouldn’t run without the waitresses

I went to pizza express for my birthday and ordered some pizza! The pizza was fine and I enjoyed it. My family gave me some cards and birthday presents. When I got dessert everything changed though! A kind waitress named Shay had wrote on the dessert “Happy 11th birthday” and that really brightened my day up. Give Shay a raise!!

Where do I start: walked in, first thing we’ve noticed is the fact that it was very cold. Cocktails were appalling if you could even call them cocktails Pizzas were okay but the service… it was non existent The Manager,I assume because she was wearing casual clothing, took our order and no one NO ONE came over to check how our food was, if we want extra drinks etc. Just simply disappointing

First time in this pizza express, walked in and felt like I’d walked into a old people’s home, no atmosphere, awful smell witch made me not want to eat the food, staff dress like they was at home and not bubbly , the food was fine , we love pizza express but this one is the least none so far I have come across sadly and won’t be rushing back

My food was never delivered to me!?

Both less and more visibility than uber, but it was good. Time between leaving the restaurant and delivery was very good. Driver was professional and friendly. I particularly liked the fact that the instructions to the restaurant say not to start cooking until the driver gets there.

We were quite disappointed. The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 6.30, the waiter took us to two tables as there were 6 of us but didn’t bother to move the two tables together. No atmosphere. The pizzas were cold and the garlic prawn one was flavourless and only had about 4 prawns on. The dough balls were nice. We weren’t offered Parmesan or black pepper. The desserts were great. The coffees were Luke warm. Pizza prices are too high when topping is so mean. The piccolo menu is good value for children. If we hadn’t used our app vouchers it would have been a rip off.

Generic experience, like any other Pizza Express. Was rather quiet when we visited, so seated quickly. Staff were very allergy aware, which is reassuring when you have dietary issues. Pizza was nice as ever, albeit I wish they were bigger! In terms of value, I don't really think Pizza Express is particularly great value, considering there's not really much to a Pizza, but others might well disagree. That said, you know what you're getting, and the food is nice enough. I would eat there again.

The food was nice. Good gf options but its a bit of a sad comparison when compared to the non-gf pizza.... could you not be a bit more generous on toppings and pizza sizes? Staff were very nice.

One of the worse PE around sadly

Booked a table for 5pm for my daughter’s eighth birthday. This was meant to be a special meal out and she was so excited. Absolutely appalling evening. Didn’t even get our olives until we had been there for over an hour. Took until 6.30 to eat our mains. No extra drinks offered. Miserable evening and didn’t bother with dessert. Pizza express you need to do better as we aren’t coming back after years of being loyal customers.

Really noisy but brilliant service

Food quality was shocking, next to no cheese on the pizza and very little toppings on them. You could get better quality for a fraction of the price at a kebab shop. Not worth the money at all.

Six tables in the restaurant and a kids pasta and carbonara burnt and that privilege cost me sixty quid. Some one please have a quiet word with chef that the little knobby things that control the flames go up and down. Shockingly bad, stay clear.

Pre booked a table for 6.00pm. Arrived on time and ordered at 6.12. 1 of our party asked for cannelloni and was told it was available. At 6.45 pm waitress said there is no cannelloni. So became necessary to order an alternative. By 7.00pm still no food so chased up waitress and told they were working on it. Eventually served at 7.10 pm. Leaving 10 minutes to stuff down food as due in theatre by 7.25. Will be looking for an alternative in future. If you are planning to go to the theatre either avoid the place or book a table 2 hours before you are due at the theatre.

Style of the restaurant wasn't to my taste, not a cosy atmosphere. But the food was lovely and delicious, staff were friendly. Pricing was a little high.

The best Pizza in Plymouth? No idea. But I know that the American Hottest Pizza (ordered thin and crispy with nicely sprinkled topping) was one of the best pizzas EVER. Would recommend this place for people who really like a good thin typical Italian pizza. Great friendly service and nice Italian beer. What more can you want?

We took a group of students here for a pizza making workshop. The staff were really helpful and the students had a really good experience.

Had a lovely meal before I went to the theatre staff were friendly helpful and friendly would recommend this restaurant for a bite to eat not to far too walk to the theatre.

I don’t often post reviews but wanted to acknowledge how much of a lovely evening we had the staff were so helpful and attentive. Food was amazing brought out timely. The atmosphere was relaxed and just what we were after. Cocktails were amazing too!

Awful takeaway No eggs for Salad Nicoise , but collection order was still accepted on line. Staff not welcoming when I went to collect. I opted to change order to Caesar salad. Potions tiny, very little dressing hardly any cheese. Bread was covered in black pepper. For £15.90 a portion of dry salad is a total rip off. I used to like pizza express, but the standard or service and food is below standard.

Came here after our coast to coast bike ride needing late night sustenance so arrived out of need but choice but glad we did. Place was empty and can feel a little soulless when empty but the food made up for it. Caramelised onion and...

It's okay. I've been to much better Pizza Expresses. They were out of vegan cheese, menu is good. The service was fine, but they had to redo both mine and my wife's because they got those orders wrong.

Great company we shared with friends. Don't agree though with the 12 .5% service charge added onto the bill fir having a large party (12) booked in advance. Should have been a reduction, as the place was quiet and therefore they should be happy for the business.

15 quid for a pizza with 5 bits of chicken on it seems like a bit of a joke

I think your carrier box could have been warmer as the pizza was only lukewarm when it arrived and the delivery was on time, or the pizza was left out too long before putting it in the box. The taste was fine all the same. Hope next time it’s hotter.

I was seated and then ignored for 30 minutes. When I eventually got the servers' attention, she arrived with food on the face at the corner of her mouth. I informed her of the food on her face and asked if she had been eating, and she said no and wiped her face with her hand. At this point, I asked if she wouldn't mind washing her hands first before taking my order. I was met with a "why?" And when I stated again. "Can you please wash your hands before you serve me." I was met with a "Really?" At this point, I asked for the manager and made my way to the front door and awaited the manager. The manager on duty listened and empathise and offered to serve us herself, but at this point, I was already out the door in my head.
