Pizza Express in Plymouth

Please employ more staff! Had lunch with you today (only because Nandos and Pizza Hut were full). Only two members of front of house staff who whilst polite and pleasant were certainly not dynamic or efficient, certainly not making any extra effort for your staff shortage. Waited sufficiently long for a children's menu I went and got it myself. Starters arrived before our drinks, child's meal served incorrect and by the time the correct pizza arrived everyone else had all but finished. The strangest thing of all is that spare tables in the centre of the restaurant are used to stack dirty dishes and when I asked why, I was advised it's quicker than taking the dirty dishes to the kitchen if they all get stacked in the restaurant!!! I have attached a photo of some of the tables. Eating out surrounded by tables stacked with dirty dishes is not a great environment. Overall the food was okay. I struggle paying £15 for macaroni cheese....the mark up must be astonishing but got a good 25% discount with my sons student card.

A gluten free pizza turned up. I ordered a BBQ chicken pizza. Hardly any topping. The base was like cardboard! Crispy potatoes, not crispy and soggy! First time I have ordered from here and doubt I will again. When I ordered it said 30-40 mins. Whed

The food wasn't bad but it didn't taste like what I'm used to with pizza express in store. the dough was thicker and there was less sauce. It also cost more than in store. It tasted more like Papa John's than pizza express. Not a bad pizza but wasn't the quality I'd expect from pizza express.

Food was great , but I ordered the food at 6pm when the delivery time was 45mins wait. Delivery time kept changing every 5mins without saying it was delayed. Eventually turned up at 7:50.

Expensive for what it is. Even have to pay for sauces even though they squeeze them out of shop bought bottles. Wouldn't hurry back

Ordered collection, the food was completely cold. They didn’t inform us about there being no cutlery when we had a spaghetti Bolognese. Were you expecting us to recreate the scene from lady and the tramp? It was ridiculous. No container to keep it from going cold. The wait for the food was 15 minutes after telling us to collect. I had a problem last time visiting it and didn’t get the brownies as they had ran out, they informed us that we would be able to obtain a brownie next time we came. We informed the woman we spoke on the phone too and apparently she was not informed about this. Very disappointing as every time I come in to seat and eat, never any problems at all.

Alice was a great, friendly waitress, and our food was very nice! Definitely a good pizza express.

Quick service by a lovely waitress called Alice who put us at ease after especially a very long drive to Plymouth thanks for traffic jams. Alice was friendly and helpful and attentive. Food was quick and as always delicious. Good amount of food.

The delivery driver called asking where we were but then did not deliver the pizza. The driver had an answerphone stating that if we had a problem with the order we should contact Just Eat. The pizza shop told us the order had been picked up and they were sorry that Just Eat were so difficult. Just Eat do not have a phone number to use. WARNING! Never use these people!

Food up to usual Pizza Express standard, but service very slow and front of house staff no great. Took over 2 hours to be served our food (a couple of starters and pizzas for all 6 of us (all delivered at the same time) and then chocolate brownies for the 2 children. The previous time my wife and I had dinner there, before going to the cinema, the service was very slow again.

I had the chicken Caesar salad as recommended, it was awful, I do enjoy a Caesar salad, but this was foul, egg was awful, so awful I actually had to spit it into a napkin, anchovies were abnormally fishy, when I pointed this out to the waitress I got a ‘just for future reference a Caesar salad is supposed to fishy’ I obviously understand that anchovies are fish, but this was extremely unpleasant, when I tried to explain this she further argued with me which I found to be extremely unprofessional, and for £15 I expected a somewhat decent meal, and it wasn’t. She did take it off of the bill, but I didn’t appreciate being argued with, as a paying customer I feel as though I am entitled to voice that I disliked my meal, I mean you could see I did as i literally didn’t eat it. Wouldn't recommend.

the delivery time kept changing and it ended up coming half an hr later that it originally told me. but i wasn’t mad bcs my food was hot (i think they only started preparing it once a driver was found), tasted good, good amount of toppings and they added my extra dips (which a lot of places don’t do). still my favourite pizza place :)

Food not great. No potatoes with the Niçoise salad, no cos lettuce with Caesar salad, burnt chicken with buddha bowl, pizzas hard to cut. Staff were very helpful and apologetic. We were given a discounted bill but certainly will not be going back

Thought we would try this Pizza Express again but my word DO NOT BOTHER! The slowest advice ever and I had to fill my own water jug up as no one got us more water after asking 5 times! Horrendous. Not the staff’s fault perhaps. Maybe they need more people working. Such a shame as it was for my birthday and put a real dampener on it as everyone was mowing about the wait for the food. And drinks! Bad times.

Lovely delivery guy. However the bag of meal deal bits was missing a juice box and the gluten free pizza was very sparse.

Very handy location especially post cinema trip! Worth booking in advance, perhaps it was busy because of the school holidays or just the location, but they were turning people away. We went just for mains; two children’s pizzas and then shared an adult with some chips. My half of the pizza was 👌 BBQ chicken, nice thin base. The side of chips were a unique accompaniment fluffy with mustard type dish. Quick service for food, slight wait to pay the bill. Also worth noting Sunday to Thursday they accept bluelight discount.

Visited Plymouth on Tuesday 21/5/24 and parked by the Theatre Royal, knowing it was near to a Pizza Express and hoping to use our Tesco vouchers for some lunch. We found the building tucked up a side road and my husband was not impressed with the surroundings. I had to check the door to see if it was open which it was, but empty, dark and giving bad vibes. We searched Google Maps to see if there was another branch and found one near the Barbican. We decided to walk (big mistake) and finally arrived aching and hungry. We were instantly greeted by Michael who was faultless from beginning to end. We had lots of vouchers to spend so we ordered five starters to share which we thought would be a good start and much more exciting than pizzas. We were not disappointed, everything was delicious and hot. After this we went straight to desserts which were a real indulgence. Meringue Roulade and Chocolate Fondant were both heaven. Thank you Michael and Chef for a memorable experience. we hope to see you again.

The flavour of the pizza was amazing but there was hardly any cheese on the pizza at all and three of the slices had nothing on them no sauce no cheese and no topping. Dough balls were amazing as always

We visited Pizza Express on Thursday evening as a family. We had a lovely experience. The food was enjoyable and the service excellent. My 5 year old loved the food and my wife was very happy with the gluten free option. Well done.

If you only take bookings and do not accomodate walk in customers, put a sign on the door.....second.....your staff need to learn how to deal with people .....mask faces and monotonous voices will get you this kind of review

I went in today 12/4/24 at around 2pm and the Classic Margherita I had was the best I've ever eaten in Pizza Express. Whoever the chef was today give them a raise because it's not normally that high level (still always good but this had so much taste to it compard to normal it was amazing).

This pizza express has a standard menu and prices you would get from any other branch. But does not use a wood fire oven and instead has an electric or gas oven (couldn't really make out, but is made of a steel body that shuts close). It cooks the pizzas well but i think does not give that burnt edges feeling and flavour. I am not sure of the other branches at this time, but they are always run out of some ingredients every time we go there. The new starters introduced Arancini balls, promoted on every table, were soggy on the outside and cold inside without any flavour, texture or smell. Service was great even though there were 2 waiting staff. Lots of free parking right outside the branch.

Plymouth Barbican Pizza Express. Very disappointed. Our pizzas arrived 45minutes after ordering and were cold. The starters hadn’t been cleared away when the pizzas finally arrived. The children were hungry and upset. The bill for 2 adults and 2 children, soft drinks only, was £97. We are regulars at pizza express because you know what you will get, reasonable food, service and prices but after this we will go elsewhere.

Awful service. Ordered at 7.12pm told it would take 45 mins. Arrived at 9pm, cold. Rang the restaurant and was told it had been ready and sat since 8pm but no driver had been sent by just eat to pick it up.

Restaurant was waiting on drivers so sat cold. Nearly 2 hr wait. Missing dough balls and dips I paid for too. Not ordering again.

Dirty table on arrival, had to get own high chair, asked 3 times for cutlery, got drinks order wrong. Food was burnt. Another dish came out with a hair in it. Avoid this place at all costs. Ruined sister in laws birthday meal.

One pizza was the complete wrong order and had goats cheese on it so had to go in the bin, the other was half burned and very sparse toppings, might as well have put some tomato puree on a floppy piece of bread and popped it in the oven, will never order here again.

Sat at table for over 20mins before anyone came over to serve us. after an hour of waiting we had been given literally the childrens dough balls. The chap who served us seemed nice enough but we are pretty sure he forgot we were there. Food was good but it seems like if you want to get your food you are better off getting it delivered to your house.

The pizza is tasty, but when it comes to gluten-free BBQ pizza, for £14, it's half the price of a normal one. So it's funny because you pay as if it were gold and you get half. There's so much pizza dip that you don't know where to pour it because there's so little. See the photo I'm sorry, but personally I was disappointed in your restaurant because the food is tasty, but there are few extras, and for sick people who have to eat gluten-free food. They pay twice and get less, so it's not fair.

My order was wrong, a completely plain blank pizza was given

Food was stone cold on arrival. I phone when it was over half an hour late and they assured me it would be made again if left sitting for over 15 minutes. This obviously wasn’t the case. They shouldn’t make the food or take the order if they don’t have a driver to deliver.

As a coeliac and disabled mum with disabled kid this was one of the best experiences ever for us,tasty timely and polite. Definitely recommend!!!

Excellent customer service throughout. Visited the restaurant 10/12/2023 and 11/12/2023 after Vue Cinemas. Delicious food and drink. Had the New Porchetta Pizza and diet Coca Cola. Compliments to the chef. Waiting staff was very helpful and friendly throughout mine and my friend dining experience. Highly recommend this restaurant. Will visit again soon. My garlic butter was missing, garlic dough balls thrown in with the salad, cold. I rang up manager asked me to do a refund and told me there was a new chef on tonight. But not happy I didn’t even eat it.

Hardly any topping or cheese. Gluten free was awful with minimal toppings also and hardly any cheese.

Absolutely NOT. Every time I’ve been here it’s been a total disaster and this was my final straw. Over half the orders were either made incorrect or late to the table. The serving staff were however very friendly and apologetic, and seemed just as stressed as we were. Perhaps a issue with the kitchen as we noticed others also had issues with food. Would not go to this location again.

Just had a meal here , husband bit too impressed with us pizza . My food was lovely but I need to mention Matt so very helpful , professional yet friendly , he is an asset to the company and should go far . Food didn't arrive logged a call with Just Eat at 1319 its now 1705 still waiting to hear back. Poor customer service in the extreme.

Don’t think the base is even cooked and barley warm, total waste of money

Had a really nice meal at Pizza Express for my son’s birthday. It was particularly nice to be able to sit outside on the terrace. Only complaint was that service was rather slow and several times I had to prompt them to take our order.

Arrived and was left standing at the entrance being ignored, finally was spoken to and shown to our table, menus practically thrown at us, the table was dirty, seats had more food on them than I could see on a table being served their meals, glasses were filthy. The table two got away was empty and had not been cleared, ice cream literally dripping off it on to the floor next to us. We waited and waited for nearly 15 minutes and no one came, the restaurant had no more than 8-10 tables with customers at, after 15 mins we decided to leave, walked passed the waitress who sat us down and she didn’t even speak with us. We went next door to Frankie and Bennys where the service was awesome, food was piping hot and a great atmosphere, I can understand why they were 3/4 full if like us everyone walked out of pizza express, another couple in there said they had done the same. So straight to F&B next time.

I was in Plymouth visiting friends and they suggested we watch a film then grab something to eat after at Pizza Express. Never having been to one before, I assumed it would be like a Pizza Hut but it was actually really nice. I had the American Hot on a Rome base, the thin one, and it was one of the best pizzas I've had. The "chips" were odd but nice enough. Staff were nice and friendly. Our waitress was amazing, Sophie, I think she was called, was nice and smiley all evening. She was English, but was speaking fluent French to the table next to us, very impressive and great customer service! Anyway, first time in a Pizza Express, but definitely won't be my last.

When we arrived at 7:50pm, the restaurant was quiet but there were several tables not cleared. We asked to be seated away from the door to avoid a draft but were initially told that this would not be possible. The girl who “greeted” us was sullen and dismissive. We were eventually seated at a good table. The same sullen young lady brought out the menus and practically threw the kids one at our 7 year old. When she returned to take our order her terseness was rude and unwelcoming. The drinks arrived but were simply plonked down on the table. The starters arrived in good time but were not cleared, even after the mains arrived. I had to ask for them to be taken away. My daughter’s starter had a mouldy tomato in it!!! The second washers (dark hair and glassses) was lovey and helpful but this will be our last time coming here. £60 for two pizzas, two drinks and a kids menu is a lot to pay when the service is this poor. Second rubbish PE experience in as many visits…. Cold food in Cardiff last time. We’re definitely fine with the brand. Franco Manca is infinitely better. Mark

On holiday so we used our tesco vouchers. Arrived at 5pm and it was quite quiet but really busy by the time we left. The only reason it has 4 star service was because they seemed short staffed and I struggled to pay at the end as the staff were runj8ng around. That's not a negative on the staff as they were brilliant and the food was beautiful!

Took my mum for belated Mother’s Day Waiter was fab (tattoos) patient with me and my being picky. Food fab. Will be back to try the new menu once the items are in stock

Me and my friends visited Tuesday evening and were served by Mike & another waitress. It’s rare to get really good service nowadays (in my opinion) hence why I’m leaving this review as I had a really positive experience. Both staff members were lovely, polite & accommodating. We had a slight issue with our starter but they were understanding (without making us feel bad) and took it off the bill. I then accidentally tipped via card machine 10x the amount and (as much as I’d like to tip this much) I did get it refunded with no issue, sorry for interrupting lunch breaks! Really warm & welcoming pair. Thank you!

I haven’t eaten in this Pizza Express and after tonight I won’t be again. The food was great, but the service was sadly horrendous, making it a really poor experience overall. The restaurant was a quarter full at most and there were plenty of staff, but we seemed to be invisible. There didn’t appear to be any coordination from those not in pizza express logo tops that I assume were managers??? We waited so long that the starters came before the drinks. Long, long waits to get any kind of service. No checking to see if all was okay, clear the table or ask if deserts were wanted. Three very agitated children waiting over an hour for food and drinks. Is the service zoned or just all for all? Couldn’t even tell. It certainly wasn’t zoned anywhere near us and we were by the till!! I love Pizza Express so this was really disappointing and exhausting.

Had an absolutely lovely meal with the family, the pizzas were absolutely amazing, but I was particularly impressed with the starters and desserts! The prawn starter was delicious, very much recommend, and the tiramisu was so light and tasty after a big meal. All the staff were lovely but special thanks to Alice for being so wonderful! We had a great laugh with her. Thank you all 😊

We come here for all our family birthdays. The staff are very welcoming (and they remember us most of the time...). They're also very accommodating for wheelchairs and buggies.

Just tried to get a quick pizza and told there were no tables - all but 3 tables were being used. We could have got a take away. The waitress was so rude she told us there was no tables!!! I don’t think she could be bothered to serve myself and my kids. Will never go here again, it is also aged and filthy. Such a shame as it used to be a good pizza express

As a place to go where you know what you'll get, we go in the week when it's a birthday for the children. Free doughballs were advertised with a QR code. It didn't work and the waitress tried to sort it but the perk was missed out on when the bill arrived. We paid on the app and wanted to get home so that was our fault we didn't spend time sorting that. Although the waiting staff were friendly, the empty starter plates were left on the table as the pizza came out. A small thing but now when we are paying £90 for 4 pizzas, starters and 4 soft drinks, you notice more.

Great vegan menu. We had a few issues with being served wrong drinks and payment issues but all were dealt with quickly and friendly, staff were really apologetic.

Asked 3 times for a glass of water Waited about 40 minutes for the warm pizza and wrong order for my daughter to turn up. No more than 15 people in. I have had thicker wraps than the pizza that turned up. Could have done with a motorised pizza cutter It's not the hardest thing in the world to make £50 Lighter in the wallet, just soft drinks as well

After spending 10 days in Brittany with sensational food, we stopped in here on a Sunday evening before the kids went back to school. We wish we hadn't. The staff appeared to have no interest in the customers. We waited almost an hour for our pizzas and two of them were wrong. The waitress sort of shrugged her shoulders and said mistakes happen. She told us we could swap them but it would be 30 minutes because they were busy. We reluctantly kept them. They were OK, but not brilliant. We asked for a discount due to the error, but apparently the staff on a Sunday evening are not empowered to make decisions like that. In my opinion, it's best worth avoiding!

We are highly disappointed. We were told our order would be 30-40 minutes. We received a call shortly after ordering to say one of the meals was out of stock so we picked an alternative and were told there would be a 5minute delay because of this. 1 hour 20 minutes later we called pizza express to say we had not received our food. We were told just eat had collected it but the driver had not swiped their card? They then advised they had made another order for us but the driver was late to collect this. Pizza express tried to assist us however they advised it was out of their control as they had made the meals and were waiting for it to be collected. An hour and a half later Our food finally arrived but it was cold resulting in a very chewy and unfortunately unpleasant meal. We would please like a refund.

Unfortunately all 3 pizzas were cold on arrival so we had to heat them up ourselves. They don't taste the same when reheated so we disnt finish them. Very disappointing considering the price.

Visited with a group of twenty to celebtate a milestone family birthday. Pre-ordered everything. On arrival, everything ready for us. No fuss, friendly attentive staff. Food served reasonably quickly considering the size of our group. Food delicious. Not hurried to give up our tables. All in all a great start to the evenings festivities. The dier can start tomorrow 😉

Book a table for late afternoon. Food was fine service a bit slow probably the worst thing they made or desert s brought my son's over and left mine on the side. But 2 coeliac were able to have a meal which is the main thing.

Had a really great kids birthday party for my daughters 8th birthday. Kieran, Tom and Harry really made it a fun, memorable experience and the kids had so much fun!! The food was so yummy and came away feeling incredibly spoiled. Thank you so much and we will definitely be returning in the future for more parties

Ordered a gluten free margarita pizza and it was the saddest looking thing I've ever seen. Hardly By cheese on it and just a half tomato patchy base. Very disappointed in the quality and feel ripped off.

Went here with 2 of my friends for a birthday lunch. The waitress Alice was really nice and friendly and was always there if we wanted to ask Any questions. The menu was so small to read, it was all on 1 double sided a4 sheet and all 3 of us struggled to read it. Lots of choices of food. Kids menu was great as I brought my 4 year old son with me.

Staff couldn't have been more helpful. First time I have swapped Clubcard vouchers and will defo be doing it again, took my niece's and nephew for tea and what a lovely experience it was, kids meals were plenty and they ate every last bit , 3 course meal for 3 kids and a pizza/dessert for an adult as well as drinks cost me £15.00 in Clubcard points and just under £15 left to pay! what a great deal. We will defo be back.

Called in prior going to the cinema for an early evening performance. Not crowded (Tuesday). Service was prompt and issues were dealt with quickly. Pizza's from this chain are a step above their rivals and with discount vouchers that are available make them competitive. Only...

Had lunch here with my daughter a couple of weeks ago. Food was ok but nothing special. The staff were friendly and attentive, but the restaurant feels dated and sad which is a shame as I remember when Pizza Express was one of the better chain restaurants. I probably won't bother returning as there are better pizza places in Plymouth.

Had a fantastic meal out today with the family. Service was fantastic and the food delightful! The manager in the blue shirt, I believe his name was Tyler and our waitress Holly were impeccable! So polite and made our kids laugh (which is a challenge). If you’re looking for a great service and food, hands down the best experience we’ve had at any Pizza Express.

Had some Tesco vouchers so visited today. Given a friendly welcome. Staff were lovely and helpful. Pizzas were delicious. Don’t know what other reviewers were in about! Lots of topping on the pizza and the base was tasty and crispy. Toilets were lovely and clean...
