Pirana in Wandsworth

I did not give a five star because of two important aspects I believe did affect my experience. First, from the outside the place does not seem like a tapas bar but gives the impression of a late night “cocktail” bar. Secondly, the female toilet , I do understand it’s a sort of Turkish toilet were there is no sitting required , but not all know how the toilet works and having it made of wood does not help , not for the spots and most importantly not so hygienic. Regardless , the food was amazing and the staff members extremely welcoming and kind , will certainly go back !

We spent a really lovely evening at Pirana on Saturday night. The team were thoughtful, attentive, and did everything they could to ensure we enjoyed our evening. Three of us shared plates of Plantain Chips, home made tortilla chips and guacamole while we decided what to eat. And then feasted on chargrilled octopus; deep fried king prawns; flame-grilled chicken; tuna tacos and other delicious plates. If that wasn't enough we then indulged ourselves with the flan; lemon tart; and churros to round the evening out. Everything was washed down with a delicious bottle of Albarino and we left as happy and full as you could wish. I could find little to fault and would recommend you give it a try if you're in the area.

I booked for a group of friends for my twin sister and my birthday - it was a Monday night and yet it ended up like a weekend party night - the place is brilliant. It was the second time I'd been and it was as good as the first - excellent (different) cocktails, amazing food and great service. The staff are all very friendly and its just a lovely fun place.

This place could be such a great spot. The only thing letting it down is the menu. There is not a lot of choice for vegetarians (if you're not a fan of quinoa, then there's not a lot you can order!

How dissapointing food was great but the staff was just so rude that made us feel unconfortable barMen not speaking english, keep talking with other staff in spanish and looking and laughing at us was relly a bad experiance

Great food ,loved all the dishes feijoada, octopus salad, Pork belly !!! Fantastic cocktails, service and latin atmosphere. Definitely will come back!!

We live around the corner to Pirana and had watched it being refurbished so we were both very excited to try the new venue. We went on the opening week where we received 50% off food and as it was opening week not all the food was available. We ordered 3 starters, all very nice but quite small portions. We probably would have been unsatisfied if we paid full price for them. We then both got the steaks for the main and they were absolutely divine, one of the best I’ve had. The service was quick and the staff were all very friendly. Overall a great addition to Balham, and I’d definitely be back for the steak.

Brand new restaurant in Balham, off the back of an unsuccessful bar. I can tell you this place will not be unsuccessful. Excellent layout and decor and charming staff. This is a stayer. The menu is accommodating to everyone. Everything tasted great, especially the octopus. It felt that as all plates (5 of them) arrived in less than 10 minutes, that it wasn’t fresh to order. This didn’t necessarily take away from the quality of the food. Having spent a decent amount of time I’m appreciating the music in S America, I would appreciate that reggaton wasn’t played throughout the night - but hey, that’s my opinion. Overall, excellent, but room to make it superb

This recently opened restaurant is well located, close to Balham tube and underground, with plenty of local parking if you have a car. The welcome is friendly, offering a cosy back room, a busy main room and pavement tables when it is warm. There is a great choice of South American dishes - order a range of different foods and share. We absolutely loved it. There is an interesting range of wines, noticeably all served at the right temperature. Prices are reasonable so tuck in and enjoy the experience. Strongly recommended.
