Santa Maria del Sur in Wandsworth

We got a wonderful evening. The staff kind, and a dinner for the kings. It was sooo delicious. We felt and taste the real Argentina.

The 5th or 6th time I’ve visited here over the last 10 years, and while the quality of the sides feel like they’ve dropped, the steak is still exceptional. It reminded me of why I love steak in the first place - after having so many mediocre ones elsewhere, this was a cut above. Now onto the sides which were a bit underwhelming. The triple-cooked chips were just ordinary. The creamy spinach was a bit too dry, additional heated cheese layer on top didn’t work for me. The carrots were fairly basic and didn’t stand out either. From what I read online, the restaurant group has aligned its menu with changes in Argentinian gastronomy, but the sides need refining to match the steak quality. The wine and the espresso martinis were terrific! I appreciated that they had a decaf option. Lastly, a major plus is that this is one of the few dog-friendly restaurants. Overall, I’d come back for the steak, wine and espressos which are all 5 stars but the sides are 3 stars.

Wasn't really impressed by the steak, it didn't come with anything on the side or even a sauce. The empanadas were good though. Overall an underwhelming experience. Service was good though and staff were friendly.

Where do I begin! The team at Santa Maria - impeccable. I hosted my 28th birthday there, the team done an amazing job accommodating all 32 of us! The food was delicious and I take my hat off to the chefs who made the meal so seamless and delicious! The team worked so hard and really did make the evening so special for me, all the party loved it. Amazing steaks and the vegetarian options were also perfect for the guests. Thank you so much and can’t wait to dine very soon !

I’ve eaten at SMS several times and it has some of the best steak in London - highly recommend. I also recently tried the lunch menu which was great value, but still with excellent quality beef - give it a go!

We had a sharing platter, definitely love the beef. Ribeye is quite tasty with pesto source. We were here quite early so no one else is here. The waitress was kind.

Fantastic chicken empanadas and I really enjoyed my medium-rare ribeye steak - a little on the pricey side but worth a visit, or as a treat Would definitely return to try all the different empanadas or a shared platter.

Great welcome as soon as we entered the restaurant. We were brought jugs of iced water to drink while waiting for the food, nicely done. Around the walls is some interesting artwork, it’s got a great vibe. The empanadas were piping hot, the cheese and ham was delicious, the pastry was crispy and the beef one was peppery, juicy and so good. We all liked the skin on fries with the chimichurry sauce. I had rump steak, that was seared on every side and you could taste it was cooked over coals. Amazing service, flavourful food, exactly what you need for a memorable lunch. Definitely value for money.

Absolutely fabulous! We were visiting no.1 son who is now a Clapham resident. We did our research and chances upon this gem, but we couldn’t have expected it to be this good. Due to stormy weather trains from oop North were delayed so no.1 was sent on to let us the restaurant know we were inbound, better than that he had ordered Peronis ready for our arrival, from the relaxed and friendky front of house guys. We had grilled octopus (sublime) , Arancini both as a starter and as a main course, focaccia, no.2 had sirloin (medium rare) and declared it the ‘best ever’, and is garnering suitable experience to actually judge, no.1 and I had phenomenal 10oz rump (rare) all with triple cooked trips. We washed our food down with a delightful bottle of house red and folllowed up with chocolate ice cream for no.2, cheesecake for no.1 and a Mai Tai for no. 0 😬. We could not have asked for a better family reunion and meal. We felt so comfortable and welcome and would recommend it, be it for family, couples or small parties, thank you.

Food was literally amazing! I am definitely going to come back. Any cut of meat was delicious ( rib eye, chicken, morcilla, etc.) They very well cooked, so juicy and tender......I simply loved it.

This was our first visit to this restaurant and as soon as we walked in we knew it was going to be a lovely evening. A bustling neighbourhood eatery with table spaced well enough apart so that you don't feel hemmed in. The noise level was giving just the right level of ambience and the temperature was perfect on what was a very warm evening. We had the ceviche and arancini to start bot of which were delicious and then a rump and a sirloin with chips and grilled vegetables, OMG the steak was the best I've had in a long time! everything about our night here was perfect and we will definitely be back

This is a fantastic local find. The food is excellent. The staff always greet us with a smile and treat us like family. They welcome children and it’s just a great spot. I love to sit by the window on a warm night. Don’t miss the grilled octopus! The wine list is also really great. They always recommend a great bottle. We come here with visiting friends and family at least once a month and have never been let down.

One of the best places for truly authentic South American food outside of South America itself. The Steak was incredible, and the staff here are super friendly and accommodating. Took my wife here for her birthday as she wanted a steak. I dont eat meat but one fish option and one veggie main. Absolutely loved the place. Been to Buenos Aires and this is as good as there, but of course you pay more as its London. Superb cocktails are only £10 each. The pisco sours are great. Three empanadas for starter and the octopus and the burrata. Everything was so good. One little complaint. the octopus portion was a little small. My wife had the steak, its not cheap at £38 but it was the best one and she said it was amazing. I had a gorgeous grilled seabass and we had mushroom and broccoli on the side. The service was spot on. We had a lovely seat by the window. We got there as it opened at 6 so it was beautifully quiet. Its got some great pictures there too, tango mostly by Oscar ??. (Sorry forgotten his surname) It all came to £173 including service and worth every penny.

5 star goes to the waiter with the beat smiles. Gonzalo made the evening and I will be back because of him. Ps. The food was spot on too. Try the Rinye twister and beef empanada.

Some of the nicest chips I've ever had. £10 for chips, steak and chimichurri on the lunch menu, a great bargain. Empanada were also delicious with several fillings to choose from.

Went there last Friday, what an amazing dinner with friends. Food was excellent and perfectly cooked. If I could rate service 10 stars I would. 100% coming back and super value for money.

This place was close to Premier Inn Clapham and we were tempted by the reviews. We weren’t disappointed. The empanadas were out of this world and the rib eye twister we shared was melt in the mouth. If you are nearby don’t pass it by!

The service was amazing :) We ordered steak and fries and it was really yummy. I also enjoyed the interior , they had so many art pieces around the restaurant , it looked like they really took time to decorate the place. Would definitely go back again as I wanted to try some other food items on their menu. I also got a little surprise cheese cake as it was a friends birthday, that was really sweet 🥹( they played happy birthday music and had a lilt candle!)

This place was on my list of steak restaurants to visit and we finally made there one cold Saturday afternoon in January. When we arrived, the place was very quiet and we got a nice table by a window. The service was friendly, quick and attentive. As the place was quiet it was nice to have some background music. As for the food - it was delicious. Of course, the main event was the steak which was presented on a sizzling plate what looked like a little bbq on the table. The steak was juicy and flavoursome, cooked to perfection. Side dishes we had were an excellent accompaniment to the steak. We had a great meal and recommend this place 100%. Had the pleasure of eating here on the 6th March. We had a group booking and arrived with one extra person which the staff accomodated with no issues. I had a steak and being the philistine that i am i had it well done, while the others were all medium rare. To out it simply, possibly the best steak i have had in a restaurant. We all enjoyed our food, and they even added cheese to the fries as its not on tje menu. The staff were friendly and unobtrusive but we were not forgotten about. Would highly recommend a visit, you wont be disappointed

It’s been about ten years since I last visited this restaurant - we used to live locally and it was one of our favourite places. We since left the area but recently my husband suggested we go back for a special dinner out. I’m pleased to say it’s as good as it ever was - the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful and the food was superb. The only problem is that all the food is amazing so you definitely want to have starters and dessert and it’s difficult to fit it all in! We shared an empanada platter to start and then shared the parrillada (like mixed grill) - it was all delicious and perfectly cooked. The dulce de leche cheesecake to finish was excellent too. Very much recommend and we will be definitely be back.

Our sirloin steaks were very beautiful and tender to eat. Our waiter Liam was very attentive and gave us top tier service. Will come again!!

Such a shame. Been coming for the last 15 years! Literally half our order turned up stone cold. Chips were terrible! Like frozen chips. Poor waiter didn’t know how to use a bottle opener! Sausages now so small! How things have changed! Gordon Ramsey had this as a great local restaurant and I’m sure would change his mind on that now. Gutted!

I don't have a picture of the lovely empanadas we had as a starter, as we were hungry and finished them as soon as they arrived (I highly recommend the spinach one). We went for the lunch deal, our first time dining at this restaurant and had an amazing time. The steak was perfectly cooked, the service was great and the atmosphere was nice. We will definitely be back, to try other dishes.

My husband and I visited this restaurant for a date night and everything about it was wonderful. The food, wine, service, and atmosphere were amazing. We will definitely be back with family and friends. I would highly recommend the broccoli and red peppers as sides, wonderful!

Booked a table of 5 here for my wife's birthday, and the staff were the most hospitable people and the food was to die for. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and their chimichurri sauce was the best I've had in london. The arepas were also standout 👌 Special thanks to Liam who took great care of us.

We had a family birthday last night and the whole team looked after us so well, I can't thank everyone enough. Every dish was excellent. It was a momentous night for us, and we couldn't have found a better place for it. Thank you for your patience and kindness.

New favorite spot! My partner and I just moved to the neighborhood and after the headache of moving just needed a nice meal and drink and were not disappointed. Gon greeted us and gave us a warm welcome to the neighborhood, the lunch special was divine and a great price. Had a few small plates and fresh focaccia just as delicious. Delicious Argentinian food, and top-notch service. We've been visiting Santa Maria del Sur since it first opened and they continue to impress us. From booking through a to paying, a great and personalised customer service experience all round. We only had one small issue which was a couple of steaks ordered medium well that were quite raw inside; this was quickly rectified by the kitchen. Staff were patient with our large group and kept us topped up with tap water which was an excellent touch. Great atmosphere, authentic and varied menu. We hope to return soon!

Wow! What great service came as a group and I just felt at home. Firstly the waiter was great had performed great customer service as us as a group agreed on. I will recommend coming here as food is stunning service is amazing and I left with a smile on my face, and the waiter was very funny which is hard to come by these days! Good variety of Argentinian wines, Luigi bosca being the highlight! I loved the steak, I got a ribeye twister which was amazing, cooked in a perfect medium rare.

I am utterly dismayed by my recent visit to Santa Maria Del Sur. As the sole table in the restaurant, I expected impeccable service, but what transpired was a cascade of disappointments. The service was a chaotic mess – nothing arrived on time, the starters were egregiously delayed, and our orders were repeatedly forgotten. The staff, notably young and seemingly disinterested, were more engrossed in their phones by the bar than attending to the few customers present. To make matters worse, our requests for clearing dirty glasses were blatantly ignored. This visit, in stark contrast to our previous positive experiences, was an absolute low point. Regrettably, the food quality has taken a nosedive. The empanadas arrived lukewarm, and the once vibrant chimichurri lacked any discernible taste – a culinary travesty. Santa Maria Del Sur, founded in 2006, has clearly lost its way. With such fierce competition in London's dining scene, I sincerely hope they can salvage their reputation. A significant overhaul is imperative if they aim to retain any semblance of customer satisfaction. My disappointment is palpable, and I can only hope for a drastic turnaround in the future.

What can I say. This is the restaurant everybody says they’ve wanted to go to but never quite got round to it. I now wish I had gone sooner. Some of the best steak I’ve had in London. Delicious, perfectly cooked steaks, scintillating sides, and excellent atmosphere and service. Goni was charming, warm, helpful but not pushy with the service, and an all round fantastic host. The wine was fairly priced and very good. Can’t recommend enough.

I absolutely love this place. I’ve been coming here for abt 4 years as i live close by. The service is outstanding. Staff come and go, however, the quality of service is never affected. Great steaks, lovely cocktails. It’s not cheap but then you would always expect to pay a little extra for top quality ingredients. Highly recommended. Special mention to Danni and Gon.

We had recently been recommended by a friend about their lunch deal of £10 for steak, chips and a glass of wine. However very disappointed as we were shafted and not given the offer for no reason. We turned up at Friday lunchtime and like their website says we asked if lunch deal included wine to two members of staff who both confirmed it did. We ordered our food which was lovely. When the bill arrived we had been charged £11.40 per wine glass and highlighted this to the waitress (who earlier said deal was running) who said “we haven’t been doing that since 2018”. We showed her that it was on their websites menu but she wouldn’t budget. We know this isn’t true as our friend who recommended it had got the deal a few weeks prior. Furthermore, false advertising on website and two staff members saying yes when we arrived is just terrible. In the end we had to pay £20 more than what we expected and ruined the visit despite the great food. I would like some compensation and I will edit my review as the food was actually great just terribly shafted.

I never though that I would write such a review, but sadly, I have to agree with a couple of the previous reviewers that were regulars to that restaurant before and found the recent experience under new management underwhelming. We were the regulars and loved to have a ribeye steak with chimichurri sauce. I am not even going to complain about the fact that this was not a proper chimichurri anymore (it is supposed to be dry spices, not fresh tomatoes in oil), and they charged for it separately. My biggest issue was that we were served veal ribeye and when I enquired about it, I was repeatedly told that it was a standard beef ribeye. I am sorry, but I know my beef. I felt like I was taken for a fool. No seasoning, no taste. So disappointing. I did not want to make a scene with our friends, so just smiled and made no further complaints. Life is too short and I prefer just quietly not to come back. Covering tables with white cloth does not make a good restaurant, and unfortunately this one has lost its soul.

Pepper stake was watered didn’t even taste anything, eventually the manager noticed and put things right quickly but he than forgot to give me knife and fork to eat my stake 🥹 i would have staff meeting and advise them not to laugh at the back when costumers eat oh and when beer is served I’d pour it for the client not a glass above the beer and help your self
