We came to this restaurant about 18 years ago, and just happened to be back in the area… it’s as amazing as we remember it. The steak was out of this world, as well as the sweetcorn stew with blue cheese. Just delicious. Topped off with lovely friendly service and a great atmosphere. We won’t leave it so long next time!

A really disappointing meal. We paid almost £80. The fish cakes were frozen in the middle, the grilled octopus was cold, the ribeye steak was extremely fatty and the sweet potato wedges were not only cold but also tiny. We waited about 45 minutes for the main course all in all it was a bit of a disaster and having spent so much and looking forward to it for so long, we left feeling incredibly underwhelmed and almost angry at the whole experience. They did take the fish cakes off the bill.

I ordered the steak and fries with chimichurri… amazing lunch menu for £10!, and it was absolutely delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor—while the chimichurri added the perfect balance of freshness and spice. The fries were crisp and well-seasoned. I absolutely recommend.

Fantastic Argentinian meat. The chorizo, black pudding and sweetbread were great too. Impeccable service. Great paintings from the great Oscar Grillo depicting tango themes on the walls. Highly recommend

Dined here 2 weeks ago on a Monday night. Had read good reviews. V disappointed visit. Starter was good. Husbands steak v tasty but mine was terrible. I would say it was left over and reheated with fresh cheese on top. So dry. I had a few mouthfuls but couldn't eat it. Was surprised the waitress didn't ask when she picked up plates. You would also think the steak would come with some salad. Because of this experience I wouldn't recommend.

This was my first time visiting Santa Maria del Sur due to a recommendation of a friend and will certainly not be my last. The food was delicious such as the three empanada deal that I got. The empanadas were soft, stuffed to the brim and were of good value. I got three types of stuffed Empanadas for my meal which included chicken, beef and mozzarella and spinach and they were all very well cooked and tasty. I also got carrots with glazed honey on the side and it was more then enough for one meal with the Empanadas. Overall, it was a great experience and the staff were friendly and professional. I would definitely return.

We always walk past this place and finally stepped in for lunch. We had the lunch time special. 5oz Premium Rump Steak, chips and chimichurri for £10. Wish we came sooner and will be back again soon. Total value for money, but mainly a fantastic meal in a loving restaurant. Thank you!

We found ourselves in the area and couldn't resist an amazing offer to enjoy a tender steak with fries and chimmichurri for only £10 (valid Mon - Thurs, from 1200 - 1500). Was really great food, incredibly affordable and seems a really nice restaurant :)

Very cute and cosy restaurant, white tablecloths and rock anthem playlist. We came for the lunchtime steak deal (£10 per head), small portions but delicious food. Fries in particular were excellent!

Visitamos este restaurante hace unos 14 años y se ha quedado con nosotros. Nuestras expectativas para esta visita eran muy altas y estoy muy contento de decir que no nos decepcionaron. La decoración ha cambiado para mejor ahora es mucho más brillante. El personal era genial, atento, feliz, amable. Nos saltamos un entrante y fuimos directamente a por un plato principal y compartimos un plato de bistec que consiste en un bistec de cebo, filete, salchicha, pudín negro, pimientos y queso derretido. Pedimos patatas fritas y salsa chimichurri. Luego compartimos un desierto y como era mi cumpleaños el personal del restaurante cantó feliz cumpleaños y compró mi desierto con una vela para que yo lo soplara. Un toque encantador aunque me avergüenza. Si no has estado aquí antes, vale la pena visitarlo y te lo recomiendo.

Steak was cooked well at a very affordable price for lunch deal. Service was attentive given we were only ones there. The empanada was also very good

Nice atmosphere and good service. Made reservations I'm advance, but restaurant wasn't very busy on Sunday night. Really friendly service, staff really look after you. Good selection. Very popular spot of Argentinian meat grill, but quite diverse menu with vegan options available too.

Updated January 2025 steak is still tender - new photo added (last photo)- Delicious food with friendly service. £10 steak and fries deal is good value and for someone who doesn’t eat steak often I was impressed by the tenderness of the rump.

Si quieres un filete argentino premium cocinado sobre carbón en una auténtica parrilla argentina, entonces no busques más. Esto realmente es un nivel diferente a las ofertas regulares de casas de carne. Las carnes provienen de un proveedor de primera calidad y los sabores son impresionantes. Las carnes se cortan a mano por lo que si quisieran mejorar les aconsejaría modificar el menú para dejar que el cliente elija el tamaño del filete y cobrar por la oz. También había algunos muslos de pollo disponibles como parte de una parrilla mixta, pero no permitían comprarlos por separado. El camarero admitió que a menudo se los piden, así que si de hecho les digo que un poco más de flexibilidad en el menú generaría más clientes felices y más beneficios. Era muy tranquilo cuando fuimos cuando solía ser un lugar muy ocupado, no estoy seguro de lo que había pasado porque los filetes eran absolutamente de primera cajón

Food and service was excellent however the atmosphere urgently needs to be improved! The music was really random and didn’t fit the vibe of an Argentinian restaurant. It felt a bit cold (not physically). On the food alone, I would defo go back but wouldn’t go back for the overall feel of the place.

We are so lucky to have this restaurant at the end of our street. Dani and the team are so friendly and Food is always fab! Always a good atmosphere and very consistent.

It has been our second time visiting as we had some great memories from 5years ago. The restaurant needs serious attention when it comes to cleanness (spider cobwebs above my head and black dust on the window sill behind my back). The food although tasty it’s way overpriced, a 10 oz sirloin steak at £34.50and you still need to pay some chips £6 veg £7 and sauce £3.5 which turns out to be £50! We understand that these might be Battersea prices but you would expect it be refined. The service? More on the phone than paying attention to the customers. Also, husband mentioned on the reservation that it was put 10 wedding anniversary and that was completely ignored. Not coming back, sadly.

Brilliant steaks and they've gone a bit more upmarket with table clothes, etc. well worth a visit if you are into meat.

5oz Steak and fries for £10 on Sunday (12-15:00hrs). Can't fault it.

Tuvimos una noche maravillosa. El personal amable, y una cena para los reyes. Estaba delicioso. Sentimos y probamos la verdadera Argentina.

We had the £16 lunch steak with chips a chimichurrie sauce. It would be nice if they offered it with other sauces. The chimchurrie sauce was bland, too much oil. My son loved the tripple cooked fries. The Padrón peppers were OK. Unfortunately, the facacia bread was nice, but the Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar Dipping Sauce had way too much oil. The kids were eating the facacia to quickly for me to ask the waitress to change it. There is definitely room for improvement.

La quinta o sexta vez que he visitado aquí en los últimos 10 años, y aunque la calidad de los lados parece que se han caído, el bistec sigue siendo excepcional. Me recordó por qué me encanta el bistec en primer lugar - después de tener tantos mediocres en otros lugares, esto fue un corte por encima. Ahora a los lados que eran un poco abrumadores. Las patatas fritas triples eran normales. La espinaca cremosa estaba un poco demasiado seca, la capa de queso caliente adicional en la parte superior no me funcionó. Las zanahorias eran bastante básicas y tampoco destacaban. Por lo que leí en línea, el grupo de restaurantes ha alineado su menú con los cambios en la gastronomía argentina, pero los lados necesitan refinarse para igualar la calidad del filete. El vino y los martinis expresos eran geniales! Aprecié que tuvieran una opción descafeinada. Por último, una ventaja importante es que este es uno de los pocos restaurantes que admiten perros. En general, volvería por el filete, vino y expresos que son todos de 5 estrellas, pero los lados son de 3 estrellas.

I’ve visited Santa María three times, and I can confidently say that if you’re looking for a place to enjoy top-quality Argentine beef, this is it. The meat has always been exceptional—tender and cooked to perfection. This time was no different, though I did notice that the sides have changed a bit and weren’t as impressive as on my previous visits. The staff is amazing: always attentive, friendly, and creating a great atmosphere with their positive energy. While it is a bit pricey, I believe every dish is worth it for the quality they provide. Definitely a place I recommend for true meat lovers.

Unbelievable. We got the burrata and grilled octopus for appetizer. Perfection. My wife and I shared the 17oz ribeye with broccoli for main course, again, perfection. There was just no possible way to make this dining experience better. This chef has to be better than Gordon Ramsey, no doubt.

Came here for my boyfriends birthday and had such an amazing dinner. The twisted rib eye was cooked to perfection and the service was amazing !! As soon as we came in, we were greeted with such warmth, thank you to Dani especially for being so amazing and helping us with everything!!

Where do I begin! The team at Santa Maria - impeccable. I hosted my 28th birthday there, the team done an amazing job accommodating all 32 of us! The food was delicious and I take my hat off to the chefs who made the meal so seamless and delicious! The team worked so hard and really did make the evening so special for me, all the party loved it. Amazing steaks and the vegetarian options were also perfect for the guests. Thank you so much and can’t wait to dine very soon !

Wasn't really impressed by the steak, it didn't come with anything on the side or even a sauce. The empanadas were good though. Overall an underwhelming experience. Service was good though and staff were friendly.

I’ve eaten at SMS several times and it has some of the best steak in London - highly recommend. I also recently tried the lunch menu which was great value, but still with excellent quality beef - give it a go!

We had a sharing platter, definitely love the beef. Ribeye is quite tasty with pesto source. We were here quite early so no one else is here. The waitress was kind.

Great welcome as soon as we entered the restaurant. We were brought jugs of iced water to drink while waiting for the food, nicely done. Around the walls is some interesting artwork, it’s got a great vibe. The empanadas were piping hot, the cheese and ham was delicious, the pastry was crispy and the beef one was peppery, juicy and so good. We all liked the skin on fries with the chimichurry sauce. I had rump steak, that was seared on every side and you could taste it was cooked over coals. Amazing service, flavourful food, exactly what you need for a memorable lunch. Definitely value for money.

Absolutely fabulous! We were visiting no.1 son who is now a Clapham resident. We did our research and chances upon this gem, but we couldn’t have expected it to be this good. Due to stormy weather trains from oop North were delayed so no.1 was sent on to let us the restaurant know we were inbound, better than that he had ordered Peronis ready for our arrival, from the relaxed and friendky front of house guys. We had grilled octopus (sublime) , Arancini both as a starter and as a main course, focaccia, no.2 had sirloin (medium rare) and declared it the ‘best ever’, and is garnering suitable experience to actually judge, no.1 and I had phenomenal 10oz rump (rare) all with triple cooked trips. We washed our food down with a delightful bottle of house red and folllowed up with chocolate ice cream for no.2, cheesecake for no.1 and a Mai Tai for no. 0 😬. We could not have asked for a better family reunion and meal. We felt so comfortable and welcome and would recommend it, be it for family, couples or small parties, thank you.

Food was literally amazing! I am definitely going to come back. Any cut of meat was delicious ( rib eye, chicken, morcilla, etc.) They very well cooked, so juicy and tender......I simply loved it.

This was our first visit to this restaurant and as soon as we walked in we knew it was going to be a lovely evening. A bustling neighbourhood eatery with table spaced well enough apart so that you don't feel hemmed in. The noise level was giving just the right level of ambience and the temperature was perfect on what was a very warm evening. We had the ceviche and arancini to start bot of which were delicious and then a rump and a sirloin with chips and grilled vegetables, OMG the steak was the best I've had in a long time! everything about our night here was perfect and we will definitely be back

This is a fantastic local find. The food is excellent. The staff always greet us with a smile and treat us like family. They welcome children and it’s just a great spot. I love to sit by the window on a warm night. Don’t miss the grilled octopus! The wine list is also really great. They always recommend a great bottle. We come here with visiting friends and family at least once a month and have never been let down.

One of the best places for truly authentic South American food outside of South America itself. The Steak was incredible, and the staff here are super friendly and accommodating. Took my wife here for her birthday as she wanted a steak. I dont eat meat but one fish option and one veggie main. Absolutely loved the place. Been to Buenos Aires and this is as good as there, but of course you pay more as its London. Superb cocktails are only £10 each. The pisco sours are great. Three empanadas for starter and the octopus and the burrata. Everything was so good. One little complaint. the octopus portion was a little small. My wife had the steak, its not cheap at £38 but it was the best one and she said it was amazing. I had a gorgeous grilled seabass and we had mushroom and broccoli on the side. The service was spot on. We had a lovely seat by the window. We got there as it opened at 6 so it was beautifully quiet. Its got some great pictures there too, tango mostly by Oscar ??. (Sorry forgotten his surname) It all came to £173 including service and worth every penny.

Excellent beef, service to match, typical atmosphere of a bodegón in Buenos Aires. Prices are very reasonable.

Amazing food a real Argentina’s chimichurri

Some of the nicest chips I've ever had. £10 for chips, steak and chimichurri on the lunch menu, a great bargain. Empanada were also delicious with several fillings to choose from.

Went there last Friday, what an amazing dinner with friends. Food was excellent and perfectly cooked. If I could rate service 10 stars I would. 100% coming back and super value for money.

This place was close to Premier Inn Clapham and we were tempted by the reviews. We weren’t disappointed. The empanadas were out of this world and the rib eye twister we shared was melt in the mouth. If you are nearby don’t pass it by!

The service was amazing :) We ordered steak and fries and it was really yummy. I also enjoyed the interior , they had so many art pieces around the restaurant , it looked like they really took time to decorate the place. Would definitely go back again as I wanted to try some other food items on their menu. I also got a little surprise cheese cake as it was a friends birthday, that was really sweet 🥹( they played happy birthday music and had a lilt candle!)

Food and wine was really good, and a nice vibe, however service wasn't great, felt quite abandoned a lot of the time!
