Pipe Major in Barking and Dagenham

What a pleasant surprise. I took my elderly mum for a meal and we had a great time. The pub was spotlessly clean,the food was cooked perfectly......and the staff were fantastic,friendly and very courteous. I genuinely can not wait to go back.

I used to go here quite regularly the place has gone downhill the turkey meat was fatty chewy complained to the manager sge went to change the meat had same again by the time the turkey got changed my other veggies was cold the cauliflower cheese was hard the peas were rock hard only mash potato was nice but cold was refunded my money back the table was sticky dirty so will not be going back there

The staff were very pleasant and engaging. I tried the carvery and the turkey tasted like cardboard, the roast beef needed seasoning, the gammon was excellent, the potatoes and parsnips tasted like they had been under the heat lamp for hours, and finally the pork stuffing was also excellent. The tables were sticky all over. Overall a so-so experience.

A really nice place for a catch up evening meal or celebration the are friendly and welcoming. I've found the food always top notch be it a roast dinner or a piece of cake.

Have eaten carvery with friends many times, but recently the food has deteriorated badly and today 31 October 2024,was the final straw, vegetables not very varied and cooked to destruction,parsnips totally inedible and potatoes with totally no substance, meat on the other hand gammon and turkey nicely cooked,beef however was nice and red,but still incredibly tough.so today with poor quality food, surly staff and very unhelpful, you have lost 6 customers never to return.

Been coming here for along time and it's normally nice but today it was pretty bab there was no meat ready hardly any peas and hardly any potatoes and there was only 1 person behind the bar and when we had finished our plates were not collected for a very long time but the staff were still very friendly

We visit regularly. Cannot beat a roast dinner on a Sunday afternoon. Staff are always so friendly and go out of their way to help. Carvery is never a disappointment. Always plenty and a great variety to choose from. See you next week!!! 🥳

Good tasty food & good drinks choices. The Carvery Chef & Girl behind the bar were both very good at their jobs with good customer service skills ( a rarity today!) Overall a very pleasant lunchtime experience for my husband and I & we intend booking again soon.

This establishment is nice for informal, family orientated meal. Fairly good children's menu available. The usual kinda adult menu available. The place was kept well and the staff were friendly and willing to help at all times. Drinking without food is possible if you sit outside, there's also a small play area outside for kids which kept our 'nightmare' busy enough for our headaches to fade away!

Would be given no stars if it was possible. Worst pub for the Dagenham area. Visited for the first time today and nothing positive about my experience. They are extremely expensive, Three times that of a standard pub venue. West end London prices for basic and tasteless food. Also the portion size is that for a child. Food was dry and cold, staff giving dirty looks and seamed frightened to approach my table with the food. Won't recommend and return. It should be shut down.

I have only eaten here twice and had the ultimate spicy beef burger both times and each time was 10 out of 10 for the food. I can therefore say with confidence that The Pipe Major, Dagenham East, is the best restaurant in the world.

Was on a work trip and need somewhere local to eat, and the Pipe Major was mentioned. And I have to confess where end up coming back two days in a roll. Very inviting, we waiting to be seat and had a choice of where we wanted to sit. On the first night there where 4 of us, so we for nice cozy both, that could seat about 6 and then second night just 3 of us. When you get to your table you have the option to got to the bar and place the order or, scan the QR code on the the table and do it all on line. It seems very family friendly... The staff are very friendly our sever was called Stacey , and sadly i forgot the pub land lady, she was was wonderful and recommend a lovely drink that i should try They have a good selection on their and also a Carvery that was fully stocked. I would highly recommend coming here and if i am working back in the area I would definably come back here for a bit.

I sent back my sausages and mash because the mash was cold. My guests waited for my food to come back before they started. My mash was no warmer the second time. The sausages were hotter, so was the gravy, but the mash the same. I couldn't allow my guests to wait longer and quite frankly, if they couldn't get it right on the second try, why bother. I told the server after and she said they got it from the carvery and put it in the microwave for a minute. They obviously did not. They should have used a probe to ensure it was hot before they served me the second time. That also means the mash on the carvery must have been cold. I was disappointed and embarrassed for my guests having to wait with their hot dinners, which also cooled down while waiting. Used to use you a lot. Will not go back.

Food was lovely except for the roast potatoes as they were reheated hard and not light and fluffy like they usually are and the Yorkshire puddings was soggy

Visited here for my first time and will not return. I ordered 3 main carvery and iv never been so disappointed. myself and 2 children waited 45 mins for them to refresh the food but still the carvery was not edible the meat was so hard couldn't bite it or cut it and so dry we covered it in gravy to swallow but still made no difference. The roast potatoes you could have killed someone with if you threw it at them. The mash was hard and dry and vegetables were not great either. We ordered dessert because we were so hungry. Very bad carvery don't waste ur money

Visited this week and it was fantastic, the staff were all friendly with great customer service and all with a smile. Julie and kris were amazing!!

Service was a bit slow despite it being fairly quiet

We were greeted on arrival and told someone would seat us shortly. Once seated we were advised there may be a wait for food as it was a busy day but we didn't wait too long. The food was excellent, although a few menu items were unavailable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The Ultimate Veggie Burger at Pipe Major was amazing—packed with flavor and topped with fresh ingredients. The crispy onion rings were the perfect side. Kudos to server, Abhi, for the friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend!😆

Booked a table for 1.30 on a Sunday. Welcomed at the door and shown to our table. We were told how to order by a very pleasant young man.At the bar our order of food and drink was taken efficiently by a young woman. Our overall experience was very good. We do like to come here because the atmosphere and staff are very friendly.

me my mum and sister came for a drink we couldn't sit outside because there wasn't enough umbrellas outside also most of the tables inside are reserved and if you just want to have a drink inside you have to practically beg for a seat also to many kids for my liking also the men's toilets didn't have any hand soap in the dispensers the hand dryers should be automatic

Be carefull what beer you drink at this bar or order at the actuall bar not over the phone. I have bough one samuigel one peroni beer at the bar, all was okay taste normal. Ordered one more samuigel and heineken over the phone samuigel taste exactly the same as heineken, have received both the same beers. I have a feeling its mixed with lemonade , Ordered one more samuigel at the bar tasted like normal beer. Tried talking to the manager she is sure what she poured was normal beer what we ordered . Didnt care what we had to say i asked her to smell the samuigel why is the smell even different ,she said i dont know . You can even see different colours of beer..No appologies nothing.. disappointed ..aint coming back for sure

Soo as we entered we were greeted with a warm welcome the staff always make you feel like a valued customer and the food was superb served in quick time and cooked to perfection, one small criticism wish there was more chips iina single portion.

Always enjoy atmosphere and food. staff are very friendly, nice interior comfortable seating, lovely outside area as well. Umbrellas provided at tables during hot sunny weather.

Food orders taking longer to arrive to table these days and you have to constantly chase, varied waiting times as long as 50 mins and the staff never apologise they just say "yeah I know we've only got one chef doing everything", that's not my problem. They could easily advise that there is a long wait for food. Then we get the 30% voucher of the mains, they never remind you about it when you order and let you pay full price and when you say I've got the 30% off they get aggy and say "They want us to make money here but keep on with these discounts" they want to see the voucher on everyone's phone and get annoyed when we email it to each other on the spot, one even assumed it was a photo of the voucher. They need to be careful they don't get mystery shopped.

Great family pub. Decent food and good ale. Large outside area with non smoking area. Free parking if you follow procedure.

Gone down hill massively. Food was dry cold and our party of 35 all woke up the nx day with Stomach ache. The carvery had been sat there all day under the heater. I asked for new meat. Was told no as he had to use what was there. Wont be going back unfortunately. Alcohol prices are ridiculous its dagenham not london. Almost £9 for glass of wine. 😢

It's OK. Definitely not as good or as nice as it used to be. All staff members of staff have the "I don't want to be here" vibe about them. I only really eat here if other people have invited or it is the last resort due to not great experiences in the past

First day back to serve yourself vegetables from the Carvery, so helped myself to a small mountain of them, which I enjoyed eating them with the gammon and turkey roasts Nice to see the friendly staff again. My son chose the Lasagna and he really enjoyed his meal. Restaurant very quiet, we had booked but probably didn't need to. Staff polite and helpful, restaurant clean, sanitizer available on entrance table.

Had a decent couple of pints, a little pricey for outer London, as it has inner London prices. Staff were lovely, and the carvery smelt amazing.

Dropped in Friday for a meal ( mistake ) ordered a prawn cocktails, scampi and chip's, lasagna, I was very disappointed, at first I thought that the bread was stale and sent it back, because it was very dry and the edges were curled up, when the replacement slice came ( in the same condition) I realised that it was being microwaved, and that was why it was crusty on the outside and doughy in the middle. Was supposed to be a seeded bloomer, what seeds ? The tartar sauce, all one tea spoon of it, had a hard skin on it, as if it had been out in the air for days, just waiting for me to come in. The chip's tasted as if they were reheated, dry and leathery. The scampi was really dry and taste less. More microwave cuisine no doubt ? I asked for a shandy, because I was driving, I was informed that would not be possible, due to a lack of lemonade ??? The chef must of had good knife skills, because I didn't think you could cut a lemon into pieces that small. Overall the food is well worth avoiding and the service not much better. Still that's one place that I don't need to think about when next I'm hungry.

Great pub, friendly staff, lovely food. First visit but not the last. We had Scampi & Chips. Cooked lovely, very small amount of chips for meh, but we shall look past this erroneous moment. Nice Pepsi too, very flavoursome. I look forward to visiting again, for a working lunch, with more chips on offer whilst i sit and work and smash my competitors whilst eating the succulent crustaceans in breadcrumbs. Wonderful.

Food was really good. I had veg carvery. They were a bit short staffed that day however still did an amazing job with serving.

The moment we stepped in we was greeted warmly and shown straight to our table, the area was pleasant and spacious, we chose to order our drinks and main meals via the table QR code which was easy and very straightforward, we was a party of four and our drinks arrived promptly at our table followed by our mains shortly afterwards, the waitresses were friendly, polite and extremely helpful. Everyone in our party commented on how good the food was and served hot, we ordered our desserts which again came shortly after ordering from the table once again and certainly no complaints about them either! The whole experience was pleasant and we all had a great meal in the Pipe Major!!!! Well done all the staff 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Staff were very pleasant, happy in their work working well together. The choice of veg was a nice change especially good to see cabbage on the menu, the food was piping hot some places you go it sits under the heat lamp and it drys out. well done guys

Today’s experience was poor! Upon arrival was told that there was no carvery available. They had run out!!!!! This is what we specifically come for so as you can imagine we were disappointed from the off. Placed our order at 3.07pm (2 simple meals) food arrived 30mins later. Chips were cold & mashed potato was dry & tasteless. At this time Pipe major was nowhere as busy as usual so food delivery time was also slightly disappointing. Waiting staff are friendly. Kitchen staff looked busy & a little stressed. Lacked overall good service & quality compared with normal.

This was my third visit to your restaurant, and last night, I finally took the plunge and tried the ultimate spicy beef burger. It was so incredible, I had to order another! As always, the ambience was lovely, and the customer service was excellent.

Family friendly and a good selection of choices - menu meet all our gangs needs. Basics where really good, better then your typical pub food. I would happily recommend as a touch above your typical pub food, portions and choice from, steak, burgers, curries, to carvery.

Friendly staff, lovely food and great atmosphere

There was no Ale available, there were hardly any vegetarian options available. No fish and chips. We didn't receive out carvery tickets until the other food arrived, so half of us had nearly finished eating before the others came back with their food. Found ordering via the QR code very confusing and long winded! Food was very tasty and well cooked. No complaints on food quality.
