We were really looking forward to this evening as we both love Malaysian food and had booked it two months in advance. The pub service was very good and professional but we left feeling disappointed with the food. We often sign up to supper clubs and felt that given the ingredients, £55 per head for four courses, was very steep. Rice and lentils (although the dal was delicious) are very basic. The atmosphere was very congenial tho' and Ping was charming. We were expecting more of a "wow" factor having watched her progress avidly from Masterchef.

Went to a recent Makan event with 5 of my friends and we had a great time. Ping had created a menu that contained some wonderful flavours, textures and new interpretations of Malaysian dishes. The star dish of the night for me was the pork in black rice vinegar and pickled cucumber - a real flavour explosion. I know this event was the first in the new venue and yet it felt like previous events - friendly, social and everyone enjoying great food and a chance to chat with Ping about the food. We all left very happy and talking about the next Makan...:-)

Great to find a simple old fashioned Chinese takeaway. Having moved from Sutton Coldfield to Freshford to be closer to our daughter in Bath we have missed our Currys and also Chinese restaurants of which there were plenty . So we were delighted to collect a take away from here and really enjoy it 👍👍

Jackie's was our favourite Chinese spot, always fresh and full of flavour. We went last night and the shop was empty but thought maybe it's because it's a Sunday night. We got home and the egg fried rice and chow mein tasted burnt. We called up the Chinese and returned to get a replacement. Older lady ripped into us as we did not return bad food although person on the phone said we didn't need too. Got home and the food was exactly the same, burnt. Two chefs in the kitchen older man and women who have cooked every time before and been incredible. The chicken balls were tough and could barely chew them. Sweet and sour sauce was good. After years of eating here, we will never be returning again.

Restaurant was obviously really busy. The driver got our orders mixed up - not his fault as my order receipt was attached to the wrong bag. Changed it over after a phone call with the restaurant, but then found my order was missing an item. After all this, the food wasn’t great - not helped by the time it spent in the box on the back of a bike, I think the driver was delivering 5 other orders. Pretty sure this is the last time I order with this place. Shame.
