Pierre Griffes in Liverpool

Coffees, staff great - Full breakfast not so, Sausage burnt to a crisp. either that or the previous days leftovers chucked on the plate, would and have returned for drinks, would not order food, partner had poached eggs/sourdough, plenty and she ennjoyed.

Don't go there. The waiting staff are untrained, the chef/owner makes Basil Faulty look polite and rational, and it's about as French as McDonald's.

Popped in for a family of for lunch. Moderately busy with four other tables already served and eating. Our order was taken by a very nice,nervous young man who had to recheck our orders twice. We could see he was new and thought he was rather sweet and had no problem with with his service,we all have to learn. Our ordered drinks came about 5 minutes later and a further 5 minutes for my sister's glass of water for which he profusely apologised for but was told no bother,it's ok We chatted for sometime and noticed the owner/ chef come out of the kitchen to sort out payments and orders that seemed to have been mixed up by the two young servers. We waited and chatted some more. A couple had come in a long time after us and suddenly were served with their meal. By now we had been patiently waiting for over an hour. We could see the young men were struggling and had cut them some slack,however others being served lunch before us was surprising. The restaurant was not packed three or for tables we were sitting by the bar easy to see. I asked the young served when we could expect our food ,he looked at us and said he didn't remember taking our order? I asked to speak to the manager who was also the chef His apology was offhand and totally insincere saying staff were young and inexperienced (we said we understood that) and we could re order of pay for our drinks and leave He was not at all bothered about our experience of the time we had spent patiently waiting. Just wanted us gone..But was also really up for a row. I said that was unacceptable he then started shouting calling me an "entitled woman", and said he felt intimidated by me. Here I have to tell you I am 5 feet 2 and 68 years old he was very tall,shouty and clearly a bully. The rest of my family are in their late 60's and my mother who he shouted at to leave when she told him he had as very rude is 90 years old We paid for our drinks, £2.20 for a glass of water and left as the intimidated man stood at the top of the steps to his kitchen shouting at us about having the last word. We were all extremely shaken and upset by this encounter.

Exceptional.... no other words. Staff, food, Atmosphere.... just brilliant....can't wait to come back.... try the French onion soup and the croque monsieur.

Absolute gem!! Beautifully fresh breakfast that was both filling and tasty! The coffee is immense! I believe it’s unique to the bistro?? Fantastic hosts and very friendly attentive staff will most definitely return to try more of the menu!

Lovely food and great portions. Enjoyed the evening with my family though the server needs to be a little more careful with his humour. Referring to one of us as a ‘tool’ left a bad taste in the mouth and was a bit too near the knuckle. Will have to think again if we want to visit to be insulted.

Been before. Lunch and evening. Went with partner 2 weeks ago Saturday. We had the French omelette. Mine with mushroom and portions of fries and truffle fries. Omelette come with French bread. Very tasty. Enjoyed the meal very much. Back again Saturday. Serve all day breakfast and lunch and menu changes in evening.

First time eating here. Came for breakfast. Nice enough establishment. Cappuccino and big breakfast ordered. Cappuccino was nice but luke warm. Big breakfast was a massive disappointment. Especially for the price of it. One piece of bacon, one poached egg that was hard. 2 small slices of a baguette. 2 pieces of black pudding. A load of baked beans, a few very thinly sliced mushrooms and way too many cherry tomatoes. It would appear they serve the breakfast on a big plate but fill the plate with the cheapest items. At the price of £12.99 for this breakfast, I was bitterly disappointed. Apparently they don't serve sausages on the breakfast because that's not very 'French'! I don't often review however I felt inclined to after eating here as it was, in my opinion, very over priced for what you get. I would have ordered toast to go with my breakfast but after seeing what they were charging for 2 pieces of toast (with butter and jam) £3.95 I chose not to. 2 slices of bread for that much is shocking. Definitely will not be visiting here again nor recommending it to others. Sorry!

We went for a walk and travelled along Allerton Road en route to Calderstones Park and decided to have lunch in Pierre Griffes. We chose to sit inside although there was seating in front of the restaurant. The ambience is very continental and the service is excellent. There is a full day breakfast menu and a lunch menu to choose from which offers a very good choice. the drinks selection is good offering a range of both alcoholic and soft drinks. Highly recommended

Called in for a drink on the way to another restaurant. Service was a little slow but pleasant. Bought 4 beers, 2 different types, on finishing the beers and getting ready to return bottles inside, we noticed that 2 of the beers were past their expiry date. We mentioned it at the bar and said they may want to check their other stock. Sever told us they would issue a refund but when manager came to the counter and realised we had drank the beers, he said he would not give a refund. To be honest, we only pointed it out so they didn't do the same to other customers but his attitude was really off and he didn't even apologise.

Fantastic spot for lunch! Lovely staff and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Food was delicious and served quickly. Will definitely be revisiting again soon!

I have never been so disappointed- I went for Lunch with my partner today( 1st April) I ordered Croque Madame and My Partner ordered plain Omelette with a bowl of chips The Croque Madame had no Bechamel Sauce on it- It was basically a cheese and Ham toastie (Very Disappointed) and my Partners Omelette never arrived- He went up to the counter to ask and was told -Sorry I'ii sort it now- He said not to bother as I had finished my Lunch by then!!!!! In all our years of going out (74 years old) I have never received such a shoddy service The Restaurant wasn't even busy which I would understand the situation if it was

The set menu was very nice with option for all. The food we had was enjoyable. A shame two of the puddings were not available with no alternative to offer so we only had the two courses. The waiting staff didnt really know the menu and offered us a choice of potatoes when the dish was chips only. She didnt know what escargot was. A lovely place but a lack of attention to detail to ensure the experience was more memorable especially as i had told them it was a 50th birthday meal with no mention of it :(

Both my husband and I went here for lunch yesterday and the food was lovely even dealt with my food intolerance. What amazed me though was the strong owner who challenged somebody speaking very loudly on his phone. The owner was polite but the customer was throwing in an “illness” quite possibly to embarrass the owner but it didn’t work well done peace and quite to enjoy the excellent food.

My friends and I visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening. The service was exceptional from all staff and the food was delicious and great value for money. We will definitely be back!

Visited on a hot weekday afternoon (approx 2pm) for a quick bite to eat and to rest our legs. Only two other tables occupied both were well into their meals so there shouldn’t have been a long wait. Friendly welcome by the young server. No blinds or screens on windows so a window table not a option in a heatwave. Very hot environment despite one ceiling fan and the door and main front window fully open. Drinks order taken first but as it was quiet and lunch time didn’t understand why our food order wasn’t taken at same time? Server then disappeared and finally our drinks arrived by another server (whilst the original was having a drink himself in the back area?!) Had to ask for the requested tap water. Then we waited and waited!!! and drank our drinks and a full carafe of water, and waited some more! No apologies, no explanation. No other customers! We had only ordered very simple dishes…No great skill required …. Poached eggs on sourdough and scrambled eggs with salmon. Eventually just before we were about to walk out , our meals arrived! Again no apologies for the delay but an admission that the chef had had difficulty with the eggs?! Sourdough bread, not toast ???! (New one on me!) with poached eggs…. had to ask for butter for the bread! not enjoyable. The scrambled eggs looked grey! Expensive for what we received. To pay £25 for two for lunch we expected a lot better! The young servers softened the blow of this experience because they were friendly and chatty, but unfortunately management need to ensure their chefs can cook! In hindsight I should have refused to pay the full food bill but as I was with my elderly mum I didn’t wish to make a fuss. I did however mention the extended waiting period and the sourdough bread?! There is no email contact on the website to leave a discreet message for the proprietor, but felt I should provide an honest review of my experience for others. Used to love this place when it was a deli cafe, what a shame!!!!

We had a wonderful meal here, with great service and lovely wine. We loved the friendly atmosphere, and found the steak frites were better than you find in many places in France these days. The tender steak was cooked to perfection, and was very tasty. It was served with nice, crisp chips, and a selection of Mediterranean vegetables,plus a small jug of delicious gravy. The rather "un - French" carrot cake for dessert was fabulous, and we can really recommend this place for a great meal.

Very nice lunch selection on the menu. First visit here as local to the area, and very glad we found it! Will definitely visit again, maybe next time to try the dinner menu properly. Open and airy, and the staff were polite and professional.
