Found this pub after a day out with the family and I’m so glad we did The food and drinks selection was great and the staff were very welcoming We ordered food and was amazed with the speed of service. Food was delicious and we were very pleased We will definitely be back

Decided to visit this little gem a few weeks ago with the family, Leah was very helpful and always had a beautiful smile on her face. Would recommend to anybody who loves excellent service and a warm atmosphere.

Had a lovely family visit to the Piercefields on my way through Chepstow. The service was quick, the food was great and at a decent price. The landlady was bubbly and funny. Would highly recommend!

Great local, goo selection on beers, great food menu and very attentive staff. Kim was exceptionally helpful and couldn't do more for us! As a family we will highly recommend this pub and will be returning again soon:)

Stopped in here for a beer on the way home. Had warm welcome from Chris the bar man. Who I then got to know. What an asset to the team. Beer was looooovely will most definitely make this a regular.

There was no white wine. I have never been in a pub with no white wine. The young lady serving was very friendly it wasn't her fault but extremely disappointing.

Sunday roast: They hadn’t lamb or chicken (13:30)and we had Turkey and beef ones. The vegetables where tasteless and no much greens, the potatoes were bland. The Turkey piece was so small that is difficult to see in the pic. It didn’t taste very fresh and a bit cold. I think that they have to improve it because the place is lovely and deserves a good Sunday roast. Lovely staff and surroundings. (I have corrected the meat we had. Still my message is that it is very poor both variety and quality).

Awful food a BLT sandwich bread was burnt and chicken over charred and dry the whole thing was tasteless Dessert was sherry trifle, I expect just that, it was a triangle of cake nothing like a trifle. Overall very disappointed.

What a shocking experience. 4 meals ordered, 2 of jacket potato with beans and cheese and 2 of veggie chilli. The jacket potatoes came with the bare bones of salad, missing numerous items listed on the menu. The chillis came out very small and missing several items listed on the menu. Basically the light (cheaper) version which is listed as not available on Saturday’s, the day we visited. When mentioned to the waitress, the chillis were improved and the missing items added, though it took much longer than it should have. The jacket potato salad was also mentioned and we were initially told, by a senior waitress, the salad needed to be paid for separately but after we corrected her, she said they never have any of those missing items as ‘head office never send it down’. We suggested that they shouldn’t charge full amount for a meal that has lots missing to which she shrugged her shoulders and said ‘head office set the prices’. She had a total disregard for our lack of satisfaction. The overall quality was poor too and overpriced even if it had been the meal as listed. Won’t be visiting there again and I suggest you don’t either.

Came here as we were pasinf through. The kitchen had just literally closed for food, but the lovely bar maid said she would enquire, and the nice chef said he would happily cook for us. We had a lovely meal there and would definitely return and recommend

Visited Piercfield for Sunday dinner, yesterday 07/07/24. We travelled up from where we live at Barry Island as our previous two visits earlier in the year for Sunday dinner was 10/10! We arrived 14:15pm and the pub was empty!! A couple sat outside with a drink. We asked the very young waitress, if it had been busy and her reply was, No! Yet, when I phoned to book, the girl said she could only fit us in for 14:15pm, strange as it had never been full!! My husband ordered Beef and I ordered Turkey. We waited approx 15 mins for our dinner to arrive. My husband had beef, stuffing, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and mash potato with hardly any gravy. Everything was really soft, even the yorkshire pudding was all soggy. I had the same but a turkey dinner, mine was swimming in gravy. Again it was all really soggy. A very small dish came with carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. The whole dinner, looked and tasted, as if it had all been cooked and reheated, in the microwave!! The dinner looked and tasted awful. Both of us left most of our dinner!! There were 2 young girls and 1 young boy working. Didn't appear to be any management around, when I enquired!! We complained to the young girl when I paid for our meal. I enquired if there was a new chef, she replied, "yes". There was no management to complain to, therefore I paid £12.95 for each dinner!! I think it is very unprofessional to leave 3 very young people, in charge of a pub, especially for Sunday dinner!! Please, anyone thinking of going for Sunday dinner, DON'T!! I will never visit this pub again, under this management and will certainly, warn my family and friends, to definitely avoid this pub!! Plenty of other pubs near Tintern Abbey, to visit and have Sunday dinner... Hi Kim, In response to my review, I would just like to clarify a few points. Yes, I agree it's great to see youngsters working and earning a wage, as you say, many their age group do not. We did not have a problem with the young staff. Fish and chips were banging. Service from meg, Alice and Zoe was great!

The food seemed to have been sourced from a jar, and the proximity of the tables made us feel uneasy, prompting us to request a change of seating. The service and staff, however, exuded elegance and warmth.

Be careful not to order the soup. The portion is absolutely unbelievably small!!!!!

Came for food. Asked to set up a tab at 7:25 and got a pint with no mention they close the kitchen at 7:30. Back to order at 7:37 and they won't take a food order. Totally unimpressed.

One of the worst roasts I've had. The meat was stringy and tough, the veg was very over done and soggy. Poor food all round

Very disappointing. Warmed up dinner, not hot. Vegetables tasteless and gravy thin. Empty pub on Father’s Day. Large garden with play area but grass hasn’t been cut for weeks.

Was closed last time we tried to visit but decided to give them another go an hour earlier. Oh no, closed again. Closing at 9 on a sunny summers evening. Well we’ll go to the rising sun in future

My partner and I had been to this pub a few times before the new owners took over and we always had a good experience. We decided to come back to celebrate his birthday. When we arrived, we were quickly seated and given drinks. We ordered nachos to share as a starter and main courses. When we placed our order, we were the only ones in there for a meal. As time went by, more people came in and were served their main courses while we were still waiting for our starter. After an hour, my partner politely went to talk to the guy who was both behind the bar and serving tables, to check on our order. He was very apologetic and explained that the staff had asked for the kitchen not to be open today because they were not familiar with it, but the owners had refused. When the nachos finally arrived, the woman who brought them out apologised and explained that she normally works behind the bar but had to step into the kitchen due to staff getting used to the new kitchen. She reiterated what the guy had said. We decided to just have the nachos and drinks and go somewhere else, as we didn't want to wait for what could’ve been another hour for our main courses. The guy kindly gave us a discount and apologised again. Overall, the staff were lovely and the nachos were good but it’s a shame that our experience was sadly let down by what seemed to be poor management.

Had to wait an hour and a half to get food and when food arrived fish was off clearly bad management. staff helpful enough

Lovely little pub that we stopped at on the way back from a long hike. Had a refreshing pint of cider. We didn't have any food as we were just there for a refreshment. Car park was spacious and clearly marked. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Service was prompt. Interior was warm and clean. Garden was well maintained and lovely to sit at. No complaints. I can recommend if you are in the area and want to a place to stop and have a refreshing beverage.

Excellent food deal. Steak was perfectly cooked. A steak and salad with G&T only £10. It was so good, when the bill for two arrived, we tipped another £10. Lovely gardens, wheelchair access, loads of parking. Great!

Lovely little pub for campervan stop over I had the 🥓 🍔 & fries with the beef dripping & Merlot sauce 👌 very very nice had it as takeaway to eat in my camper 🚐 the staff are nice friendly and welcoming with good knowledge of the local area.

We went in for lunch today to be greeted by 3 members of staff sat down...no welcome greeting...we were the only 2 customers in there so thought well the service should be good...How wrong was we...really slow... Our sauce didn't come out with our mixed grill and had to ask for a steak knife... Really annoying noise of a waitress emptying sauce from one bottle to another right behind us... A lovely pub but wouldn't be tempted to go back...staff need to brush up on their front of house skills...

Booked online but when we arrived no booking listed. Only Sunday roasts were available. Waited an hour after ordering before our food arrived. Food ok but could have been be hotter.

Great Live Music tonight. Eaten twice here already & booked next week for my birthday. Can't wait. The atmosphere is better than it's been for a long time 😁

Found staff very friendly as soon as we arrived. The food was very good value, we both had steak, cooked perfectly, a great meal. Will definitely go back.

We were escorted to our table by I assume was the landlord/ manager who was quite pleasant etc. I envisaged having just a pie chip veg main but was tempted by the lunch menu which stipulated that although a smaller plate, the option of a starter could be had with a reduction of £2.50!!!! We both ordered tomato 🍅 soup and a small fish chips etc and gammon. After about 10 mins then waiter came back to inform us that the soup was in fact potato and leek 🤮 I personally don't like that option and was considering just having a pie chips etc from the main menu. Young chap(waiter) chips in (sic) and recommends a prawn cocktail.ok yeh why not!!!! Starters arrived and after tasting my partner's soup I'm assured I've made the right choice. It tasted earthy....like potatoes 🥔 The prawn cocktail though nothing to write home about,was however edible. After this event we had to wait approx 30 mins for our mains in an almost empty pub? The young chap was continually offering apologies for the wait and finally said that the cook had gone somewhere and forgotten about our food. Eventually the dishes were served and because we were hungry were eaten. However the cuisine doesn't stand up to the impressive menu,ie pierce field name emboldened etc The chips appeared to be oven chips and my fish had been overcooked,the gammon appeared to have been cooked with a blowtorch. Any way after more apologies young chap then ran up our bill!!!! It would seem that the prawn cocktail was not subject to the discount and cost £5.99 ? So if you want to spend over £40 on a tasteless overcooked mini lunch then the piercefield is the perfect place to do so. I reckon young chap was on commission 😂😂😂

To be honest this place has gone down hill rather quickly food we waited for for well over 90 mins.. tasted off!! if it was any colder we would have been in a fridge.. not a place i will be returning to at all! Service was just about passable beer wasnt great.. ive no idea whats gone on there but rating 0 to 10... 1. Poor very poor!

This is my local, and I have to say the new managers are a breath of fresh air! So much more friendly, welcoming, and have really lifted the atmosphere in here. I ate here a couple of weeks ago with a group of friends. The food was great and good portion size, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend a visit.

Table for 5, every meal had a problem they served us the wrong meals there was items missing the food was over cooked it took 1 and 1/2 hrs to get the food service was appalling I don't rate this place at all they didn't seem to worry about the customers we were not the only ones dissatisfied with the service, stay clear we shall not be returning!

I am sorry to say the Sunday lunch today In my opinion was very poor, after a long wait our meals where served on the cold side, with a very small portion. They need to improve if I am going to eat there again in the near future

Our eldest son had recommended The Piercefield several times for a good meal and we finally went there yesterday as a family of 6. The food was absolutely lovely, everything cooked perfect all 6 of us had different meals and they were all lovely nothing was left 😁 The sherry trifle cheesecake was YUMMY!!! Staff very friendly lovely atmosphere good back round music.. We will definitely be returning

Having been to Tintern and not being able to find a place to grab lunch (tried 2 places) Found this on way back to the M48 thankfully! Lovely Sunday roast and a big thank you to Leah who was extremely friendly and gave wonderful service, which sadly in this day and age can be lacking in an industry which is very very tough gig at the moment

Great place to eat and drink, good space on the veranda, and a large garden with plenty of tables. Lots of different areas to sit in and enjoy a drink. Great atmosphere and plenty of room. Decent parking space out the back.

Poor service but food was great. I'm not sure our waitress had ever served tables before. She didn't even bring a menu. Let's hope she gets some training....

I organised a family Christmas meal for 17 people, the service was faultless, the food very good and the staff so very helpful, I would definitely recommend the Piercefield for excellent food and service, many thanks to all there .

Fantastic food, we visited on a Sunday so had the roast, beef, turkey and chicken were all enjoyed. Well cooked, red cabbage was beautiful. Staff were very polite and helpful, service was quick. Would definitely visit again and recommend.

We had a warm welcome from the young man behind the bar who directed us to the waitress. She was equally friendly and took us to our table. She took drinks orders straight away,then gave us a perfect amount of time to decide on our food order. The food took a while to arrive, but no complaints as that indicates it is cooked to order. When the food arrived, it was well presented and tasted good. The pie was particularly good. Its not often full pastry case pies are served these days and it was perfectly cooked too. We also had deserts which were nice.

We came for dinner with our son. The service was good and friendly. I ordered scampi but unfortunately there was no tartare sauce as advertised. The food was good tho. I have booked a Xmas meal there for December so I had 2 vouchers to use but couldn't use both of them so gave the other one to my friend. On the whole a good experience with just a couple of disappointments.

Pulled up towards 8pm to park our camper van for the night. We had driven around for ages trying to find a campsite with no luck and saw this on a Facebook group I follow for stopovers. Pub is lovely, we only had sweet potato fries but they were good and staff were really nice. Peaceful sleep and convenient location! Will stop again!

We popped in for a Sunday lunch, we were the first in the restaurant. Our table for 2 was 'sticky', so much so that if we leaned on the table, our jumper sleeves got stuck to them. I suggested moving, my daughter said "No, that would be embarrassing." Had I not been with her I would have asked for a less sticky table. The Roast was average and tepid rather than hot. Service was polite. Place could do with a good scrub down. Won't be returning.

Had a meal 1pm great tasty meal with gamon n chips lovely welcome. Very polite staff, stayed the night in our motorhome in carpark. Must be one of the worst roast dinners I have ever had. How is this even allowed to be served! But that’s the problem, poor/lack of quality control and no proper experience behind the stove. I suppose anyone can put a chef’s hat these days, and call himself a chef. Embarrassing!!

Visited on Wednesday (curry day). Food was good, so was the ale. Slightly off our normal track, but well worth a visit

Nice ambience, good food and service. Table surface a bit sticky, apparently from the cleaning spray used on them is quite unpleasant and would put me off visiting.

As locals we feel so lucky to have such a nice pub closeby. The BEST fish and chips, lovely staff, fab community events and super welcoming vibe. Highly recommend.

Visited here with family this afternoon, we were greeted by a polite, well mannered as charismatic waitress. The food came out in such a good timely manner, the food itself was delicious! Clear plates all round. Deserts were delicious and the staff were more than hospitable. Making sure everyone in our party was happy with their meals. I cannot wait to return. The mega mixed grill was really impressive. My steak and eggs were cooked perfectly to my liking. Thank you :)

Visited today (Friday) for lunch with my Wife and also my Brother and his partner who had travelled from Cheltenham. Everything was 1st Class, great service, lovely food and very welcoming - highly recommended. Visited Wednesday evening 15th March for the Curry Evening. Gorgeous Chicken Tikka Curry, 1st Class Service and highly recommended. Visited Friday lunch time 17th March with my Brothers from Cheltenham. We all chose differently, ranging from Steak, Gammon, Burger to Chicken! Once again, the food and service was top of class, my Wife and Brother said that the Steak was as good as they have had anywhere. Visited again 14th July, party of five at lunchrime. We had 5 different meals and each one was absolutely 1st Class - highly recommended.

A great pub with pub grub and variety of drinks. Fairly clean, but really (and all pubs should do this) a good scrub with soapy water of outside tables, rails and decking can't take much time and is hardly an effort to get rid of cobwebs and bird droppings.) The ribs and wing sharer was lovely, although maybe just add the "sauce" on the side as it was sugary and no good for diabetic... although yummy for me. Partner could have done with mayonaise as an only option... the containers could also do with a wipe down. Best crispy sweet potato fries ever. Nice outside area...and good areas inside too. Child friendly.

This was a weekend of music at chepstow race course. These guys really pulled out all the stops...music...along with facilities for us to park our motorhome and a shuttle service to the race course to see George Ezra . Pub was buzzing a bbq and music outside all very well organised with a very nice atmosphere not noisy or rowdy just right....well done guys very impressed you did a great job
